Accidentally deleted a mailbox - can I recover it?

Hi all. I was going through my mail, sorting it out and what not, and I accidentally deleted some of my saved mail, which was in a mailbox (not my inbox). I'm wondering if there is an easy way to recover that data.
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.
15" PowerBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

I'm afraid that was a bad move. If you want that data back you should try special recovery software:
Stop using your Mac a.s.a.p. as you may be overwriting essential data. Use a serious data recovery program to bring the files back. Data Rescue II is an example of such a program.
The folder you need to rescue is the folder and contents, originally residing in: userhome/library/mail/mailboxes/....

It's not a good idea to post your email address on the Internet.
No, once you delete something from the iPad it is gone.

  • Accidentally deleted MobileMe mailbox in Mail.app 4 and now need to recover

Here's what's up. Yesterday I accidentally deleted a mailbox on my MobileMe account. The one that has 30000+ messages in it form the past 3 years...
Realizing how stupid that was I immediately made a copy on a safe place of the local cache on my computer. So now I have a copy of that entire mailbox in .imapmbox format. Today I have tried to find a solution to figure out how to get that email back into Mail.app and I fail to find a way.
I have tried to make a bogus IMAP account and copy the mailbox to it but nothing happens, I have tried to import the email using the import tool in Mail.app but it can't recognize the filetype, I have tried to just copy the entire mailbox into the Mailboxes directory in my Library and then it actually appeared in the "On My Mac"-list as a mailbox but with no messages in it.
I have use emlxtombox converter and that gave me some result but the attachments were omitted.
    What to do?

Have you tried to import the mail box? You are trying to copy a back file into the mail app, it will not work as you found out. You should look into a way to backup your files.
    try the following:
    import mail box

    to restore

How Restore Deleted or Missing OS X Components
A few of the basic OS X installed applications can be restored from the Optional Installs installer located in the Optional installs folder on your Installer DVD.  However, if what you need is not there then follow the instructions below.
How to Use Pacifist to Restore Deleted or Missing OS X Components
Insert the OS X Installer DVD into the optical drive.  Use a simple utility like TinkerTool to toggle invisibility so you can see invisible items.  Alternatively, open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and at the prompt enter the following:
    defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles Yes
    Press RETURN.
To turn off the display of invisible files repeat the above command substituting No for Yes.
The install packages are located in the /System/Installation/ folder on the DVD.
Download the shareware utility Pacifist. Use it to extract a fresh copy of the missing item(s) from the file archives on your OS X installation DVD. The file archives are in the /System/Installations/ folder (use Go to Folder option in the Go menu of the Finder.)
Here are Four Basic ways to use Pacifist (courtesy of George Orville.)
Drag a .pkg icon onto the Pacifist window .....proceed to step 7.
Click on “Open Package ....” and navigate to package desired and click “Open” in the open/save window.....proceed to step 7.
Insert Mac OS X installer CD and when it mounts, navigate to .... Menu->Go->Go to Folder. In the path field enter or paste ....
/Volumes/disc name/System/Installation/Packages (where disc name is the name of the CD/DVD that you inserted.)
Click on the  "Go" button ..... • Drag a .pkg to Pacifist..... proceed to step 7.
The package you'll need will have to be discovered by trial and error, but for most applications you should start with the Essentials.pkg and/or Additional Essentials.pkg.
    D. Insert your Mac OS X install disk 1 .... and open Pacifist.
    1.          In Pacifist, select "Open Mac OS X Install Packages" ... dialog may appear asking for disk 2, then disk 3 and finally disk 1 again.... {if DVD is not used)...If “Stop Loading” is selected...the procedure will stop!!!
2a. When loading is complete, a new window appears, click the triangle to display contents of each package...Select item and proceed to step 7.
2b.          or click the “Find” icon in the Pacifist window and type the name of the software you need.
    3.          In the list that comes back, click the top most entry for the item that you want. ..... that is the one for the English language.
    4.          On the top of the Pacifist window, click “verify” .... you will probably be prompted for your password.
    5.          Enter checks for.... “verify permissions” and “verify file contents.” and click “verify” ....enter password when prompted.... you will get back output which may look like this:
20 files were scanned. 20 of 20 files were present on the hard disk. 0 of 20 files had file permissions that did not match those specified in the package. 0 of 20 files had checksums that did not match those specified in the package.
    6.          Click “close”. Go to step 7.
    Extract or Install........
    7.          In the Toolbar (upper left), you now have the option to extract or install. Click a file in the lower list and those two icons will be enabled.
    8.          If “Extract to...” is selected.... navigate to the location where the file will be placed, select “choose”, select “extract” in new dialog that appears, authenicate , if prompted, click “OK”.
    9.          In the next dialog, click “Extract”.
    10.          If “Install” is selected... dialog will appear with the location/path of the installed software. Click “Install”
    11.          Type in your password, click “OK”
Pacifist will begin to extract files.
    12.          In steps 8/10ß.... you also have the choice to “cancel”
Notes:          Pacifist may find that a file it is installing already exists on the hard disk. Pacifist will present you with an alert panel....
    Stop
    Leave original alone
    Update .....
    Default selection
Replace .... (Replace option should only be used on full install packages)

  • Ooops, deleted mail account also deleted all mails - can I recover them?

    Hi there,
I deleted a mail account and now all the emails from the Inbox have been deleted as well (bummer). Does anyone have any idea if they can be recovered and how?
    Help would greatly be appreciated
    Thanks
    Andreas

There should be separate directories inside ~/Library/Mail for each account. Something like this, for example:
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    Mac-username
There should also be a ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes directory that houses any "On My Mac" mailboxes.

  • I accidentally deleted Dictionary and can't find my install CD?

I accidentally deleted Dictionary (and TextEdit, but I don't really use that one). ((And yes I emptied the trashcan))
I thought they were just shortcuts, but I guess not.
And now I can't use the three-finger tap to look things up. Is there any way to retrieve Dictionary without reinstalling?

You can right click on a toolbar (e.g. empty space on Tab bar) to get a context menu that allow to set which toolbars to display.
If the menu bar is visible then use:
    * View > Toolbars
If the menu bar is hidden and you have the orange Firefox button then use:

  • Geotagged a folder of ~200 photos then accidentally deleted folder.  How to recover geotagging data?

I had a folder of around 200 photos that I imported into Lightroom (Version 3.6) and manually geotagged using Lightroom with Jeffrey Friedl's Geoencoding Support Plug-in.  This took several hours of work in Google Maps, determining where each photo was taken then individually labeling each photo with the exact GPS coordinates in Lightroom, so it was pretty annoying when I realized that I accidentally deleted that folder earlier this week in an attempt to free up some space on an external hard drive.
I *do* have two back-ups of the same photos that were in that folder, however -- one on another external hard drive and one on a laptop -- but the photos in those folders are untagged and don't have any of the geotagging data that I manually applied to the ones in the other (now deleted) folder in Lightroom.
When I go into Lightroom now and look at Previous Import it shows thumbnails of all the deleted images along with the text "The file named (imagename.jpg) is offline or missing."  However, in the Metadata panel on the right under "Geoencoding" I can still see the GPS coordinates I applied to each of the photos.  I could individually write down each of those sets of coordinates along with the numbers of the images they belonged to and then manually type in all those coordinates for the 200+ photos in the folder with the untagged photos but it seems like there has to be an easier, faster way to do this.  Is there?
Let me reiterate what I'm asking.  I have 200 photos in Folder A on one external hard drive and the same exact 200 photos in Folder B on another external hard drive.  I manually geotagged all of the photos in Folder A using Lightroom but then accidentally deleted Folder A.  I still have all the same photos in Folder B but without the geotagging data.  I can still view the geotagging data of the pictures that were in the now-deleted Folder A in Lightroom.  Is there any way to transfer that data to the same pictures in Folder B, using Lightroom or any other program?
Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks!

Outside LR, just copy Folder B back to the same place as Folder A was, and make sure it has the same name as Folder A. That's it. You haven't lost the metadata, including the geotagging info....that's all still in the catalog. But because you've deleted the folder outside Lightroom, you get the "File is offline or missing" messages (in fact if you look in the Folders Panel you should see Folder A listed also with a '?' mark).....so just putting the folder back in place should fix the issue.

  • I accidentally deleted iMovie and can't find it in hidden purchases.

I have a Macbook 10.6.8 which originally had iMovie HD 6. I recently downloaded Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.3 to update. At some point I accidentally deleted iMovie from my computer, and when I went to retrieve it in hidden purchases in the App Store, nothing appears under the "Purchases" tab. "You have not purchased any apps" is all it says. How can I get iMovie back??

    Hello elysehill22,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
The following article provides information on downloading previously purchased content. I would pay particular attention to the first section "Before you begin".

  • Help! Accidentally deleted Apple id, can't restore iPad

Help! When trying to change the apple id on icloud, I accidentally deleted my sister's apple id, to which my ipad 2 was linked. I have since created my own account, and tried to restore the ipad, but it won't let me because it asks for the password of the previous "owner" of the ipad, and I can't access it because it no longer exists. I am not from the US, and thus can't call to get help.
    Please help me!

Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID that was used to purchase/download them originally. So they will always require that ID to update.
Why did your old Id become unusable?  If it was because the email is no longer functional, you can go to appleid.apple.com to update it, and keep your aple ID functional with a new email address attached to it.
