Accidentally deleted e-mail account, won't re-download my e-mails?

In Mail, I accidentally deleted an e-mail account. After re-adding it, I noticed that it wouldn't download my e-mails anymore. I logged into the web-based e-mail and all my e-mails were still there. Is there any way I can re-download my e-mails again? I'm using Gmail.

Greetings,
If you're using IMAP mail, try this:
Quit Mail if it's running.
Go to Home/Library/Mail and remove the mailbox folder for that account (it starts with IMAP-).
Restart Mail and it should download the email again.
If you're using POP email, you may be able to download them again if you access your Gmail account on the web and mark all the messages as Unread first, then try restarting Mail.

  • Accidentally Deleted the Mail Icon on IMac

I accidentally deleted the Mail icon on my IMac. I can't find it in "Applications" folder either, so maybe I deleted something more serious?!
How do I reinstall the mail icon or find the application in my system?
    Thanks.

Perform a custom install from the Mac OS X 10.4 disk and install only that component if possible; if not, use Pacifist to install it. In either case, run the combo updater for your Mac OS X version afterward.

  • Accidental Delete of Mail.app

    Hi,
I accidentally deleted my Mail application. What do I do to recover or reinstall mail.app, without overriding the emails and setting saved in my system/library.
    PLEASE HELP.

I'm happy to report that you are safe so as long as you didn't touch or delete any of the preference files for Mail in the library or preferences folders.
What you're going to have to do though is find your original system restore discs (the grey ones that came with your computer at purchase) to reinstall Mail.
Apple Discussions board user, Cornelius, previously recommended this application called "Pacifist" in order to extract specific files from a restore/installation disc. You can use it to find the Mail.app and restore it onto your Mac.

Upon reinstallation and startup of the Mail application, it should automatically detect the old settings and e-mails and work right away.
Maybe you should back up your Mail preferences files before running the application for the first time, just in case it happens to reset things or override the old settings.

  • I accidentally deleted a trash account in Mail.  Restore is greyed out.  How can I rebuild it or get it to function again?.

I accidentally deleted the trash mailbox instead of deleting the messages.  Rebuild is greyed out.  Use Super Duper to back up User folder.  Can I get this box tofunction again or how can I ever delete mail for this account?

I did delete all mail apps and library.  Got Pacifist and began the process all over again.  Then downloaded updates and it did recreate the mail mail boxes.  No trash at all, but it would allow me to delete items.  Finally explored and went to "mailbox" in the toolbar and went to "go to" and it had trash listed and I clicked on it and it put trash baskets for both of us!!!!  Now I wonder if I could have gone ther to begin with? I guess not.  The new version is 4.5 also.  Not sure why the messages about not working with Snow L. Thanks for all the input.

  • How do you restore accidentally deleted e-mail from a back-up?

I accidentally deleted some important e-mails.  I have an external hard drive with backups, but I'm not sure how to go about it nor where they go.  I'm using Entourage on a desktop Mac with OS 6.8.  Does anyone have any ideas?

If the mail account is a IMAP or Exchange account that is how it works. Those accounts synchronize mail on all devices.
If the mail account is a POP3 account the go to Settings>Mail>the mail account>Advanced>Deleted Messages>Remove and set to never.

  • Accidentally deleted apple mail

Hello, I accidentally deleted the apple mail that comes on the computer. Is there a way to redownload it without having to do a complete system restore?

No, you can't download it. You will need to download a shareware utility called Pacifist from www.versiontracker.com or www.macupdate.com. Use it to extract a fresh copy of Mail from the file archives on your OS X Installer Disc. The archives will be in the /System/Installations/ folder.

  • Accidentally deleted iTunes, is there anyway I can download it again and have it just back up my iPod instead of clearing it of all data? All of iTunes files are still on my computer, but the actual program got deleted.

I was trying to clear space on my C drive and decided to delete programs that I didn't use or that I didn't recognize. (Bad idea, I know that now.) Anyways, accidentally deleted a program that iTunes needed to run and the computer said it would undo the uninstall and restart to fix the problem but when it restarted iTunes was gone. So my question is, after I download iTunes again, is there a way I can just backup my iPod to it's last sync (which was coincidentally right before I accidentally deleted iTunes) instead it being cleared of all its data? All of iTunes' files are still on my computer except the actual program itself.

    Hi, InsaneCharlie.
Thanks for the question.  I see you have uninstalled iTunes and want this program back.  Start with completely uninstalling iTunes if present and all of it's components in the order specified in the article below.  Once this is done, download and install iTunes.  If none of your data was modified in the iTunes media folder, then your data should be present upon installation.

If you receive any errors when uninstalling any components of iTunes, try the steps in the article below for each component that gives you an error.

  • Accidentally deleted all mail from one account - how to retrieve?

I apparently deleted all of the mail from one of my email accounts on the iPhone. They are not showing up in the Trash folder.
The emails are still present in Entourage and have not been deleted from the server.
Is there any way to bring them back into the iPhone? I really need them for my on-the-go responses since I spend half my life waiting in offices!
    Thanks,
    roxpat

    OK - another update.
If the message is downloaded into Entourage first then it won't downloaded onto my iPhone at all. I haven't made any changes to my account.
    ideas?

  • Accidentally Deleted Junk Mail

My Mail account is set up to automatically delete items in the Junk folder after one day. Sadly there were a couple of mails that WERE NOT junk and they have now been automatically deleted. How do I retreive them please?
I note that junk mails neither go into the Trash in Mail, nor into the main Trash bin in the Dock. Where do deleted emails actually go?
    Thanks
    Andy

Messages automatically erased from Junk according to your settings don’t go anywhere. What would be the point of moving them to the Trash? Mail is just doing what you’ve told it to do, i.e. erase the messages after the specified amount of time.
There is a small chance that the messages haven't actually been erased, though.
For each mailbox, Mail 1.x stores messages sequentially in an mbox file within the *.mbox package associated with the mailbox -- you can see the files contained in an *.mbox package by ctrl-cliking on it in the Finder and choosing Show Package Contents from the contextual menu that appears.
When a message is removed from a mailbox in Mail 1.x, the actual message may be completely erased from the mbox file (in which case it cannot be recovered), or it may remain there just marked for deletion in one of the other supporting files within the *.mbox package.
In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes. I’m not sure what the import options available in Mail 1.3 are, but you should choose Other / Standard mbox, or something like that. Follow the instructions to import the Junk.mbox package that’s within the ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/ account folder.
Importing as Other / Standard mbox causes Mail to look at the mbox file only, ignoring the supporting files that keep track of which messages are read/unread, marked for deletion, etc., thus causing any previously deleted messages that might remain there to reappear.
