Accidentally Deleted Movie, or Moved it to Trash

I finished a movie in iMovie and apparently deleted it or perhaps moved it to trash. Is there a different trash can in iMovie, different than the trash on my mac?
Is there a way to restore the movie?

I just ran a quick test with interesting results. I deleted an iMovie 9 Event, found it in Trash, copied it to a folder outside of Trash, then used File/Import/Movies and found the undeleted folder. I selected Copy, not Move (I didn't trust what may happen by moving & possibly losing the file). It appears the movie files are at the top level (and are the largest files). I selected ONE file and it imported okay. I then attempted to import the other 3 files and after a long processing wait, none appeared in the Event (no idea where they went or why it didn't work). However, when I imported the files individually, they each appeared in the desired Event. This appears to be how we undelete an Event.
I hope you still have the files in the Trash for this to work. Good luck.

  • Accidentally deleted a sample folder from my trash and need to get it back

Hi there i was wondering if there is any one that can offer some sort of assistance with this problem. I tried to free up some space on my hardrive and inadvertently deleted a folder of samples that are pretty precious to me, and as i am working on a remix at this moment, it has put me in a bit of a pickle.
I have tried using various 3rd party software such as "Stellar Phoenix" and "Data Rescue" both of which do not support rx2 files(rex) unless i provide the hexidecimal info, and when they give me my results there is no way to specify which files i am looking for nor do they make it simple to just recover one folder which in this case is all i am looking for.
Is there any way i can just simply recall this folder? or have i just ruined my career with a click?
From this moment on i shall be using time machine so no need to elaborate on that.
I have leopard.8 and a MacBook (white) if that helps and the file types are aup/aiff/wave/rx2 and patches for synths/fx units and such from Reason.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as i am almost at my wits end.
    Thanks in advance.

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • OMG, I accidentally deleted my iPhoto and emptied the trash, is there any way to get it back?

Please help! I'm having a heart attack right now, I accidentally deleted my iPhoto that has hundreds of pictures and I have already emptied the trash, please tell me if there is any way I can get it back?

If you have not backed it up, then your only option is to stop using the computer immediately, as further use will risk writting over the sectors of your HDD, and make it difficult to recover.
Now the recovery process is long, and expensive, and your files may not be in any particular order. There may be millions of files to sift through.
You would need to use a program like Data Rescue 3, and pull out your HDD, and plug it as an external into another machine.
Or you could spend thousands having it done professionally.
For "hundreds", is it worth it?

  • Accidentally deleted iMovie and cleaned out my trash

The subject says it all. And before you tell me to use my start-up discs, the box in which my laptop came, and all the bits that were in the box except laptop and charger, were chucked in the trash by my well-meaning mother a few months ago. So, I'm pretty sure there's no way to get iMovies back without buying iLife all over again. I'm not using time machine either. I thought I was, but it turns out it's not configured.
Is there any way I can legally get iMovie back again without paying for it?

Without the install discs you will need to buy it (harder due to the very high sales tax, aka VAT in the UK).

  • Have accidentally deleted video clips and now an iMovie project won't play (did initially after deletion but no longer). Is there any way to rectify this? I have a very upset daughter as the video was her holiday memories....

I have deleted the video clips used to make an iMovie project as I thought the bits usedt were saved as part of the iMovie project. Initially the project still played post deletion. However it is no longer working as it says it can't find the video clips. Is this rescuable?
I have a very upset daughter as project took her 2 days and was her holiday memories....
    Any help gratefully received

There's no harm in looking inside the Trash folder.
When a file or folder is deleted, it is moved into the Trash folder to give you a chance to recover it if it was deleted by mistake. Of course that means Trash folder could grow large as time goes and more files are deleted.
You can recover your movies if they are still in the trash.
You should also empty the trash if you think you don't need the files in it to free up disk space.

  • Accidentally deleted /var folder, now recovery utilities not responding to trackpad/keyboard!

So I did something completed stupid, and now have a big problem.
I accidentally deleted /var folder and emptied the trash!!
Now my MBP is stuck at the grey start up screen with the apple & spinng wheel and won't start up..
The weird thing is, now when I enter recovery utilities, everything displays fine except I cannot click anything! The mouse pointer moves but won't respond to clicks! Same with the return on keyboard. Arrow keys work to move among 4 options on os x utilities (time machine/ reinstall/ online help/ disk utility) but when I hit enter, no response! The trackpad & return key works fine up until the point where the mbp asks which language to run the recovery utilities.
All my data is backed up online, and now I just want to reinstall os x and start using my mbp again!
I tried reinstall with an installation disc by holding down 'c' on start, then I hear the installation dvd spinning for 3 seconds, then it would start ticking and won't do anything else for a few minutes until I force shutdown.
Please!!! Can anyone help me?? How can I reinstall os x??  I would really appreciate!!
Thank you Thank you Thank you in advance.
    -Michelle

I know it's late but maybe it will help other people.
I ran into the same issue and none of the solutions listed by apple helped.
I booted into single-user mode and I read the log in /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/private/var/log/system.log, it was full of errors like theses
    Dec 30 18:03:28 MacBook-Air locationd[352]: libcoreservices: _dirhelper: 454: mkdir: path=/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000sm00006d/C/ modes[2]=0700: No such file or directory
Dec 30 18:03:28 MacBook-Air.local locationd[352]: could not create persistent store directory (Input/output error)
    Dec 30 18:03:28 MacBook-Air locationd[352]: libcoreservices: _dirhelper: 454: mkdir: path=/var/folders/zz/zyxvpxvq6csfxvn_n00000sm00006d/C/ modes[2]=0700: No such file or directory
The system actually tried to create directories in /var/folders but the directory /var/folders did not exists, so I created it:
    Under single-user mode:
    mount -o update /
    cd /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/
    mkdir var/folders
    mkdir var/folders/zz
    reboot
And it booted just fine !

Put in your install disk 1(the disk that came with your mac or the Leopard install DVD) then after the disk has opened double click on "Optional installs" then double click on the "Optional installs.mpkg".
Then when you get to "Custom install......." click on the triangle by appications and then tick iChat and then continue with the install.

  • I accidentally deleted my media files from iTunes and Trash when I was trying to move the files to an external hard drive. Is there a way to restore the media files from a Time Machine backup or from iTunes Match? What are the steps to do this?

I accidentally deleted my media files from iTunes and Trash when I was trying to move the files to an external hard drive. Is there a way to restore the media files from a Time Machine backup or from iTunes Match? What are the steps to do this?

If you have been backing up on Timemachine.
All you need to do is enter time machine... Then the rest is obvious.
Find the iTunes folder and hit 'Restor'.
If not the only way to get all your iTunes music back is to enter iTunes Store.
On the right hand side you should see 'Purchased'.
Click 'purchased' and there you have it.

  • I have accidentally deleted the trash bin in my mailbox and can no longer move any deleted mail into the trash.  I thought I was removing all the emails from the trash but somehow managed to delete the bin instead.  Does anyone know who to reinstate it?

I have accidentally deleted the trash bin in my mailbox and can no longer move any deleted mail into the trash.  I thought I was removing all the emails from the trash bin but somehow managed to delete the bin instead.  Does anyone know who to reinstate the bin?

You are running 10.6.8? If yes, I assume you have your install disks? As the trash bin is part of Mail app and that is an integral part of the OS, the only way I know to get it back is to reinstall the OS. You won't lose any files, just reinstall the OS over the top of the current system.

  • HT1751 I copied my iTunes folder to an external HD and now I cannot delete it. When I try to move it to the trash it displays The item "iTunes" can't be moved to the Trash because it can't be deleted.

I copied my iTunes folder to an external HD and now I cannot delete it. When I try to move it to the trash it displays: The item “iTunes” can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted.

Close iTunes. Click the icon to start it, then press and hold down the left shift key. Keep holding until asked to choose or create a library. Choose the iTunes folder on your external drive. That should bring back all your playlists, ratings, play counts etc. You may have to settle for removing and reloading the media onto the device again. That's not too bad, but what you don't want to have happen is your apps being removed and reloaded as then you can lose settings and data. If that looks likely backup and then restore the device rather than sync it.
If for some reason rebuilding the library the way you did has moved files around then the restored library may have trouble finding things. If so post back and I'll explain what to do...

  • Accidentally "moved project to trash".... now it won't reinstate?

After about 5 hours of working on it, I had finished making a slideshow in iMovie '09... I was going to go show somebody but wanted to quickly delete other projects that I had finished. I clicked on "Move to Trash" for those 2, but apparently I clicked one too many times and accidentally deleted my slideshow project.
Not really a big deal, right, since all you have to do is move the file out of the trash to make it work again? WRONG. It's not opening. I went to the trash and pulled out the "Temporary Item" folder iMovie automatically puts it in; now, when I click on the icon, iMovie opens to a new event ("My First Project") and won't acknowledge my slideshow. I tried doing the same thing for the other projects I meant to delete, and the same thing occurs. The file is still identified as an iMovie Project.... but... yeah. It's not working. Has anyone else had this problem and/or could help me fix it?????

I read another post about moving the file into the Movies>iMovie>iMovie Projects folder. Did that and it worked.

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:
