Accidentally deleted "Recovery HD" partition

I accidentally deleted "Recovery HD" partition. How can I get back or re-install it?
I'm using MacBook Pro Retina 13"
Intel 2.4 GHz Core I%
OSX 10.9.2

Only if you use Disk Utility to first erase the drive. Otherwise, it should install all new OS files over the existing ones, and recreate the hidden Recovery partition. Your third party apps, user account and personal files will remain as they are.
But as mentioned, there's always the possibility something will happen that shouldn't, and you could lose files. So have a full backup in place, first.

  • I accidentally deleted my windows partition

I had created a 100GB partition for windows on my 500GB hard disk from BootCamp and accidentally deleted the windows partition and I've got that 100GB free that I cannot use anymore. The partition cannot be resized and that's it. Please suggest a way in which I can get rid of that free space and resize my hard disk without losing ant data.

    there are 2 options here,
    1) use bootcamp assistant to delete your failed partition and reinstall windows. or,
The OP has already deleted it, can't delete it again
    2) using disc utility open your hdd (use the original branded name, not the short name of the same drive)
select "partition" highlight your failed partition, click the minus button then click apply. this will give you your 100GB back. from here you will be able to start over with bootcamp again if you wish.
Once more, the partition is already deleted, how can it be deleted again?

  • Mavericks won't install after accidentally deleting recovery partition on 10.6.8

I have been searching for hours for a solution and found none.
Essentially, I was running 10.8 on my MBA which originally came with 10.6. Wishing to perform a clean install of Mavericks, I accidentally deleted the recovery partition. Installing Mavericks would then always crash midway; so eventually I reinstalled my original OS from the bootable disc from apple. Then I figure I had to create a bootable disc for Mavericks, which I did, and the result is the same, the installation crashes midway.
Any other way I could install 10.9?
    Thanks

Mavericks creates a recovery partition while installing.
So, no previous recovery partition needed.
But playing whith partitions could be a mess.
    Try a clean reinstall.

  • Accidentally deleted my EFI Partition?

Well I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my 2011 13" macbook pro and it wouldn't boot.... So I just decided to reinstall Mac OS X Because Ubuntu messed up my previous installation(It was supposed to install side by side). I clicked the hard disk and clicked erase and I noticed there was a Partition called "EFI". It's gone now, Is that bad? Do I need to fix it somehow?

That "Wubi" Ubuntu install is for Windows PC's not Mac's.
Deleting the EFI partition results in a question mark on the folder when you try to boot OS X.
If you haven't gotten a copy of your files off the computer, you need to hold c boot off the 10.6 installer disk and install OS X onto a external drive that's formatted (Partition tab in Disk Utility) Option: GUID 1 partition OS X Extended journaled.
When you reboot, hold the option key down to boot off the external drive and access the internal and grab your files
    See:
"Create a 10.6 Data Recovery Drive" picture in my post here.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16276201#16276201
Once you got your files off, you need to format the internal drive the same way (GUID OS X Extended) and use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the external drive to the internal. Set it as the boot option in System Preferences.
Formatting the drive in Disk Utiliy creates the hidden EFI partition.
If you want to "try Ubuntu" it's best to use a free virtual machine software like VirtualBox in OS X, so you get to play with it easy. (or payware VMFusion or Parallels)
Then try intalling Linux on another PC machine, then partitioning it with Windows creating a dual boot
Then on a old second use Mac where all the drivers, fan control software and such can be had, as there are less Mac users using Linux (working the bugs out) than Windows users so you have to wait longer.
Then last on a newer Mac learning from all the past adventures and experience, as not all new Mac's can run it yet and requires hacking skills.
Lion also adds more "issues" that one has to conquer first.

  • Mountain lion - accidentally deleted recovery partition

    Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help.  I have a Macbook Pro Retina, bought new in December 2012 with Mountain Lion preinstalled.  It's been having a lot of sleep issues and, to try and fix these, I attempted a clean install of the OS.  However, I messed up and accidentally erased the recovery partition as well as Macintosh HD (when I boot up and hold down Cmd, the recovery partition is missing).
I can reinstall the OS using internet recovery.  The problem is that, when I do this, it installs Lion instead of Mountain Lion (even though the computer was bought new with Mountain Lion preinstalled).  And, of course, I can't download ML (withut paying) as I have never purchased it (other than 'inherently' purchasing it with the new mac).
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks in advance.

That is incorrect. When using the online internet recovery system (booting the system from the Apple servers over the internet) the version of OS X that is available is what originally came installed from the factory on that particular Mac computer. No Apple ID is required or needed to use the online internet recovery system.

What Mac OS X version you get when re-installing depends on the Apple_ID.

  • Accidentally deleted OS X and recovery partition

Hello, I was playing around with dual booting Ubuntu on my Macbook Pro and it seems like I accidentally deleted my mac partition. Only ubuntu boots on it now.
I tried all the recovery startup commands but none of them work, leading me to believe I also deleted the recovery partition.
Any help in reinstalling OS X on my machine would be greatly appreciated.

What is the EXACT model/year MBP that you have and what is the OSX?
    Ciao.

  • I accidentally deleted my recovery partition. Any way to get it back without taking it to the Genius bar?

Like I said... I accidentally deleted the recovery partiton while in Windows (bootcamp), thinking it was a partition on an external drive.
NOTE: Don't mess around with the system and drives when you are tired!
Now, is there wany way of etting it back without buying a utility for $99, or visitin the Genius bar? And If I have to take it to Apple, will it get wiped? With those two Q's asked, out of curiosity I tried booting with Command R and was able to get to the re-install option for Mountain Lion (but didn't actually do anything). With the Cmd R option and live download, do I really need the partition?
    Thanks.

Unless someone has come up with some third party utility, I fear you will have to at least reinstall the OS X partition. At worst, you may even need to redo the entire drive and hose the BC setup as well.
First try cloning the OS X partition onto an external drive, wipe and reinstall OS X, the migrate the stuff on the external clone back in (this recovers the apps, files and configs. Not the OS).
Command-R is working cause the Mac is pulling the Recovery boot code off Apple's servers. If you're stuck somewhere with no reasonably speedy Internet, you'd be stuck. Hence the convenience of having a local version of the thing.

  • I accidentally deleted my windows 8 partition.

    Hi.
As the title states, i accidentally deleted and reformatted the partition that windows 8 was installed on, on my EliteBook 8570p, and now the recovery tool states that it is unable to restore because of a said missing partition. I was wondering if there was any way i could restore or format back the partition in question.
    Many Thanks.

I guess i should state that this happened during a botched install of windows 7. Right now, i just want to see if i can restore windows 8 in it's original setting to this computer.

  • Help! Accidentally deleted my Windows 8 partition. Can I recover it?

    Hi all,
    I have a bit of a problem.
While I was trying deleting/formatting a USB stick connected to my rMBP, I accidentally selected the windows partition on my HDD instead of the USB. I then preceded to rename and click "erase," just before realising what I'd done!
As you can imagine, I was pretty annoyed with myself, but I hoped that I was mistaken and booting into windows would would work as normal... This didn't happen. Is there anything I can do to get back to 'the old days' and recover my Windows instalation/partition?
Any help you can give will be greately appreciated.
    Thanks.

If you had sensitive data on that partition, then you'll have to make the decision of how much money it's worth to get it all back via recovery software or a recovery service like OnTrack.  If all that was on there was Windows 8 and some programs you can easily reload (i.e. your only cost is your time), then just reload it like you did originally through the BootCamp wizard.  If this is the case, consider it a learning experience and move on.  I once deleted the Microsoft User Data folder from my Documents folder thinking (What's this doing here...) lol.  You can imagine how surprised I was when I started Outlook and nothing was there.  I was like... SOB!

    paul dave,
to reïnstall Mavericks on your 13-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro, you can try booting into Recovery mode by holding down ⌘R as your MacBook Pro starts up. Eventually it will show an OS X Utilities menu on the desktop; select Reïnstall OS X from that menu, and follow the instructions which it provides to reïnstall it onto its internal disk.

  • I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and somehow it crashes the mac side peridoically.  I am told I need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the recovery drive.  will that delete the windows partition too??

I have a mac book pro with Boot Camp that also runs windows.  I upgraded to Lion and now the mac side crashes/freezes periodically, especially iphoto.  I am told by the genius' that I probably need to "clean" it and reinstall lion using the "recovery drive" which resets everything back to default and reinstalls the lion operating system.  My question is will this also delete the "windows" partition drive and all that data too.  If so that will be a huge pain in the ___ to back up and reinstall boot camp and windows. I want to shoot the lion.

There is no system like Acronis for the Mac platform. You can try using the buiilt in Disk Utility to create an Image of the complete Mac drive but I have found that this does not work very well as on tryiing to restore it gives errors sometimes.
You can use SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner to create a bootable Clone of your system partition. But that is only for the System partition and not the complete drive.
If you use Boot Camp to install Windows on your Mac neither of those two programs will clone the Windows side.
Neither will Disk utility as Mac's can not create or write to a NTFS partition. So some other program is need for that.

  • I cannot recover accidentally deleted partition.

When I tried to install windows 7 through the boot camp assistant, I accidentally deleted a partition of 200gb. I think it was #1. How can I recover it in os x 10.9? The OS X 10.9 shows 200gb less the total hard-drive space. Thanks.

If the photots weren't backed up, there's no way to recover them.
