Accidentally erased songs and ITunes ignoring iPod

Not knowing very much on how to work computers and such i made a very big mistake. A couple of years ago i got my iPod, i installed iTunes into my computer (windows), works out perfect no problems, songs are still in the library at this very moment. I just got a laptop and i installed itunes into it too (hoping to transfer all the songs there from the first computer) that went well too, except when i connected the ipod to the laptop it asked something weird like "switch the library songs to the ones you currently have" or something like that and within seconds all the songs from the ipod are GONE! I then go to hook the iPod up to the main computer hoping to replace the songs and iTunes won't recognize that the iPod is hooked up.
If anyone can offer any advice on how to fix this I would really appreciate it. Thanks
iPod Third Generation   Windows XP

Melissa,
Is the laptop you purchased a Mac or Windows machine?
If it's a Mac, that explains why the original computer doesn't recognize the iPod any longer.
As for returning your music, try restoring using the iPod Updater--on the original computer. Then reload your music from iTunes.
If all goes well, switch your iPod to manual update, instead of automatic.

I have just bought a new macbook and trying to add all my music to my new itunes from a previous version of itunes (iTunes 9) in my seven year old Mac. I can import all the MP3 songs but iTunes ignores all the m4a format files. What to do? I have copied them into the music file along with the mp3 files but they still dont open in iTunes.

    From your OLD computer...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

  • Can not transffer some songs from itunes to ipod

I have down loaded some hindi song from net , I am trying to transfer song from itune to ipod but can not can some one help me?

Are you using a 1st or second generation shuffle and what format are the songs that won't move? Some formats that play in iTunes are not compatible with the 1st generation iPod shuffle, Aiff and Apple Lossless for instance. Apple Lossless is not supported on the 2nd generation shuffle:

  • Transferring songs from ITunes to IPod Nano

I have IPod Nano 5th Generation, and the latest IMac operating system.
Had no problems until today, because yesterday I downloaded the brand new ITunes 11.0 (163). Trying to transfer songs from ITunes to my IPod Nano. Not sure if I should submit this question in the ITunes section or the IPod Nano section, so did both.
ITunes used to - until today - show my device (IPod Nano and its playlists) on the left side column of ITunes, above the ITunes playlists. So I could just click on a ITunes song on one of the ITunes playlists and drag that song into one of the IPod Nano playlists above it. Now with this new version of ITunes nothing shows up on the left side, so I have no way of dragging songs from ITunes to IPod Nano. An IPod Nano icon does appear on my desktop, but clicking on it or its contents does not show any IPod Nano playlists. I could click on the IPod Nano icon on my desktop and then click on "all files" on top. There is an area that shows all the IPod Nano songs (I think),  but it does not show the IPod Nano playlists.
    1) How do I get the IPod Nano playlists to show?
    2) Please advise how to transfer songs from ITunes to IPod Nano playlists when using this new ITunes 11.0.
    3) If this cannot be done, is there a way for me  to go back and reinstall the previous version of ITunes?

I don't think the late/great Steve Jobs had this "new and improved" version of ITunes to be so darn frustrating.  It used to be relatively simple to put songs into a playlist or to import purchased songs from ITunes into an Apple device such as the IPOD Nano.  "Simple" used to be the selling point of Apple products.  What happened?  With this new version, I feel like I've got to contact Apple Support to do simple tasks.  It seems like I'm not the only person having this problem.

  • Cant put songs from itunes to ipod

Cant put songs from itunes to ipod, i have itunes on my computer at my house and i have i tunes on my computer at work.
It will only let me have songs either from my house or my work not both, if i try to drag the songs into the ipod symbol it wont let me put it in my ipod
anyone know what the problem is???

If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer (As in your case where you have one at home and one you use at work) you can change the update preference to "manually manage songs and playlists. By doing this, you can listen to your iPod at work where you may have iTunes but no songs or a different set of songs on the computer.
See these links for more detail:
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing Your Songs Manually
    For info: iPod 101
The iPod offers three ways to transfer music from your computer. You can select one of the following update modes from the iPod Preferences menu in iTunes (Edit=>Preferences=>'iPod' tab):
    1) Automatically update all songs and playlists. This is the default mode, in which your entire music library, including playlists, is automatically synced to your iPod. If the music library on your computer exceeds the iPod storage capacity, you are prompted to select a different update method.
    2) Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    3) Manually manage songs and playlists. You can also choose to transfer music to the iPod manually. This allows you to drag and drop individual songs and playlists from iTunes to the iPod.

  • How do I download songs from ITunes to IPod?

How do I download songs from ITunes to IPod?

Plug the white USB cord into your iPod and the USB side into your computer. Your iPod should come up in iTunes. Then, select either playlists or songs (once you see the screen, you'll figure it out, I'm sure) and sync your iPod. If there is any other specific issue, please outline it for us. Otherwise, that should work.

  • I preordered the One Direction FOUR album deluxe and they have been releasing songs and itunes says i need to purchase them

i preordered the One Direction FOUR album deluxe and they have been releasing songs and itunes says i need to purchase them

The standard process for pre-orders is that you're not charged at the time, but as and when individual tracks are released these are charged at the standard single rate and when the full album is released you pay the balance between what you've paid so far and the full album price.
Has your previous payment method expired or been removed since you registered the pre-order?

  • I'm trying to play a song and itunes is repeatly asking me to authorize the account.  I have authorized the account and it will not play one particular song.  What should I do?

I'm trying to play a song and itunes is repeatly asking me to authorize the account.  I have authorized the account and it will not play one particular song.  What should I do?

If just one song on an album is doing that, that suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

  • HT1725 I was downloading some songs and iTunes shut down.

I was downloading some songs and iTunes shut down. It says I've purchased a song but it isn't in my purchased playlist, but it charged me for it. How do I get the song, or get my money back?

You've tried the Store > Check For Available Downloads menu option on your computer's iTunes, and does it show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes ?
If not then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
If the 'report a problem' link doesn't work then you can try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Can you erase songs from iTunes, but keep them on the iPod???

Hi, I'm a newbie and tried to post this question earlier, but I'm not sure if it worked.
I'm wondering if there is any way to update your ipod, then take some of the songs on itunes, but still plug your ipod in later and keep those former songs on the ipod even if they're not on itunes. I'm thinking this isnt possible. But I wanted to make sure. I have limited HD space, but a 30GB ipod, so I was considering my options.
    thanks!
    angela

Set the iPod to sync manually; you can then delete songs from iTunes without them being deleted from the iPod automatically. You should keep another copy of the songs if you do this, as they can easily be lost if they are only on the iPod.
