Accidentally Formatted using Windows

I have a 4th generation iPod with a click wheel greyscale. I also have a computer with Windows Vista. And I accidentally formatter the iPod using the Windows formatter; not iTunes but the default formatter. And now when i start my iPod it has a folder with an exclamation point. I looked in the support for that picture but they said nothing about what I did, so if anyone knows how to make it remember that it is an iPod, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Well, if you reformatted it using Windows, you erased the iPod's software. Therefore, when you turn the iPod ON, it does not know what to do. Should not be a big deal.
Just run iTunes and connect the iPod. iTunes should recognized the iPod and offer to set it up. In the process, it will run the Restore process and install/initialize the iPod's software. If you are using USB to connect the iPod, when it restarts after the software is installed, it will display a picture (on the iPod's screen) asking you do connect it to a power adapter. That's the last step of the Restore, so I hope you have the white square power adapter that came with those iPods.
The iPod should now "remember that it is an iPod."
Note: If for some reason, iTunes (or anything else in Windows) does not recognize the iPod when connected, try putting the iPod into Disk Mode first
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1363
then connect it to the computer. Hopefully, iTunes will now see the iPod and run the Restore.

Repartition and format the drive for a Mac:
    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • Ipod Formatted to Windows but I want to use Mac!

I know you should be able to use an ipod formatted to windows on a Mac, but I can't. I have itunes 7 and it won't let me put music on my ipod says software is too old.
I've been trying to update the software but everything says you can't unless you have a mac formatted ipod! I'm so confused. I never had this prob with my old ipod. Help.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

This is looking like a common problem that has a (fairly) simple solution as long as you have access to another Mac. If not, you may have to do a "clean" install of the OS.
The problem is a corrupted file (at least on Macs with the Power PC processor, id est, not an Intel one) by the name of iPodDriver.kext which resides in the Extensions folder of the Library folder of System folder (not the System Folder, this is an important distinction) which you will see by double clicking on the icon of your hard disk on the desktop.
Drag this file to the trash and delete it (empty the trash).
The idea is that you find a Mac that is happy to mount your iPod and display the update and restore buttons correctly (as well as the full range of tabs and other visual clues, such as a non-generic icon of your iPod).
Then copy the aforementioned iPodDriver.kext to a USB stick, iPod, CD, DVD, whatever from the "good" Mac.
Reverse process to put it on your Mac.
    Shut down "your" Mac.
Restart "your" Mac and open iTunes, connect your iPod and, at least in my experience, it will work and provide you with correctly rendered iPod.
Apple used to recognise this problem, but seem to feel that the problem now no longer exists since the introduction of iTunes 7.1.1, however this appears to be arrant nonsense as it keeps cropping up as a problem on these forums (including in iPods and Macs running the most up to date software).
I feel it is also associated with the USB connection itself (for a longer explanation of why I believe this to be so http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=915410&tstart=0 ).
I hope that some of the above helps.

  • Been using Windows formatted ipod for months SUDDENLY itunes cant recognize

I've been using my Windows formatted first edition 30gb Video ipod with my Mac Pro itunes since last April when I got it. Now suddenly(before new itunes upgrade) it says it cannot identify my ipod because it is formatted for Windows and that I need to restore it, formatting it for Mac.
Why has this happened after it working fine for so long?
It wouldn't be that big of deal but I have a lot of music on this ipod that I don't have anymore in any other place.
    What can I do?

Is that something that happened AFTER you updated to iTunes 8, assuming you did?
You might try something like Yamipod, which is free and available for both Windows and Mac, that you can use to read the stuff off the iPod into your computer that isn't already in your library.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

I've used windows to format my muvo nx, cause i didn't know i couldn't, now i can't play the files that I have uploaded into it what should I do to fix that?please help methank you all!

    miche978,
Did you setup the player to be in recovery mode?
. Connect your player to your computer while pressing and holding the Play button. Keep the Play button depressed for 5 seconds after the player is connected to your computer.
    2. After releasing the Play button, a dialog box may appear, prompting you to install a Player Recovery Device driver. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the device driver installation.
    3. Once the Player Recovery Device driver installation is complete, double-click the firmware upgrade .EXE file.
When the NOMAD MuVo NX Firmware Download dialog box appears, click the Start button.
Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the upgrade.

  • What output formats support the play speed settings on a PC using windows media player?

What output formats support the play speed settings on a PC using windows media player?
Here is my need. I need to take my video clips with me on my small PC and view them at slow speed. My playback PC is small and a little slow, so I cant have a very high bitrate. It uses an ATOM processor. It uses windows media player. I noticed the slow playback option is available in some formats when opened with windows media player, other formats--feature not available. What are the best output settings to save my clips on my small PC?

Just to add a few details:
    As stated, WMP 11.0.5xxx
    OS = XP-Pro SP3
    Intel Core2 Quad 2.66GHz
    RAM = 4GB
Graphics chip = nVidia GeForce 8800M (recent, but not latest nVidia driver)
    I/O = 3x SATA II 7200 RPM 250GB
    Virtual Memory = Static 10GB on D:\
WMV's play pretty well in both Slo-Mo and at about 2-3x speed

Guys, I been in the business working on PC and MAC for years. So I am not green at this, I was looking for some kind of option to get past the boot loader..  Which is failing.
I know how to boot into these modes.. Done tons of research before posting and couldn't find anything.
It will not go into  Internet Recovery, or any thing else.  I hear the sound .. then that is it.. I get nothing else..
I have tried clearing the NVRAM which is Option + Command + P + R
    Still nothing..
So I thought I would try here to see if maybe there was some trick out there someone might know of that would work.
What else guys?  I am hitting th keys right..

  • Updating an iPOD using Windows format

I just tried to update both my step-daughter's & wife's iPODs and it tells me that they can't be updated because they both use windows format. They were first used on other computers, which are both Microsoft, so I'm assuming this is the reason its a windows format.
There is an option to reset the iPOD to its original setting, would this make them an apple or MAC format? If so, would all the info be lost. I'm asking this because I we want the updated software for the iPODs.
    Thanks,
    Tom

If you want to reformat the iPods for Mac you need to restore them on your Mac. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the Mac version and put it back to default settings, so if you have songs on your iPod that aren't on iTunes you will lose them if you have no back up. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to update manually or using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes

hello once again.. i have formatted my external Hard drive it using exFAT, now my windows cant detect my device, can u plzz help me the whole purpose is getting ruined, i use Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

This is a problem with the Mac OS X implementation of exFAT. I've had the same problem.
Best is to use a Windows box to format the drive exFAT. Then it can be read by both Windows and Mac OS.
But aren't Macs supposed to "Just Work"? Not in this case.

  • Record audio file in a wav file format using QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows?

Is it possible to record audio file in a wav file format using QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows? The system I want to upload audio files that I record to requires they be in a wav file format / PCM - 112025kh / 8 bit mono / 11.05khz
Something tells me no...and I bought this upgrade for nothing...GRRRRRRR

QuickTime Pro for Windows allows you to make audio recordings from some input devices.
You can then "export" these new files to .wav format at any setting you choose.

AVI is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper - Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?

  • Format iPod for Mac... using Windows.

So I have my cousin's iPod here, and I was told to make it work. They have a Mac, I have a PC. Their Mac wouldn't read the iPod at all, and I surmised that was because it was formatted for Windows. So I took it home to my Windows PC and restored the settings, but of course, there was no option to set it to Mac.
SO, how can I use my Windows PC to set the iPod nano (1st gen) to Mac?

Their Mac wouldn't read the iPod at all, and I surmised that was because it was formatted for Windows.
    That isn't the problem.
SO, how can I use my Windows PC to set the iPod nano (1st gen) to Mac?
You basically can't. Formatting the iPod from a program other than iTunes or the iPod updater disables its ability to be used as a music player.
