Accidentally installed WinXP 64Bit...

Hey guys,
So I basically installed XP64bit without considering compatability with Bootcamp and am now stuck. The computer doesn't recognize the drivers on the OSX install CD and I can't switch back to OSX. All I have is an XP64 that doesn't work because I can't get drivers for any of the components. What can I do to either salvage my Windows install and get it working or just get back to OSX and get a compatible version of windows?
Thanks for your help.

Newegg has Vista with a coupon to get the Windows 7 upgrade for free.
Or just download 7 RC and buy it when you need to, either 10/22/2009 or thereafter, but before March 2010.

  • CS4 GPU works fine in WinXP 64bit -with some tweaking

For several weeks I was unable to get the CS4 GPU accelleration working under WinXP 64 bit (not officially supported by Adobe). I spent hours on the phone with ATI and a bit of time w Adobe also. No sucess with my ATI FireGL V3600 which works fine with DAZ Studio showing full textures in the View window and does decent and very fast renders.
Afte I gave up and started building a Vista 64bit machine, I saw a post from Slim_W who got GPU accelleration working fine with his very expensive FL card.
I had already gone through installing latest drivers, running special Adobe Reg patching utility files etc.
When I checked ATI, I saw there was brand new driver available. I downloaded and installed, ran the Adobe utility and GPU Accelleration works beautifully.

  • T440P - Error Installing WinXP (ACPI compliant error)

    HI,
    I'm installing WinXPsp2 64bit on T440P.
I'm using nLite to build an instalation image with AHCI Sata Drivers and when I'm installing show a BSOD with 0x000000A5 error say that BIOS is not full ACPI compliant
When I press f7 on install show a menu to select ACPI Multiporcesor x64, ACPI Uniprocessor x64 and Other.
If select Uniprocessor or Multiprocessor the error is the same.
If select Other don't work because I don't have the driver.
How can I  download the driver?
How can I load the driver with nLite?
Can I update or downgrade the BIOS to obtain its compliance.
    Thanks.
    Cesar.
    Solved!

If you insist on running WinXP in 2015 you need T430 or older.  T440 and newer will not run XP.

  • NI-DAQ for WinXP 64bit Edition

    Hello,
Does anyone know NI-DAQ is going to support WinXP 64bit Edition or the NI-DAQ 7.3 version can be installed on the Win64 already? Thank you!

    Hi Rolly,
The NI-DAQ driver is currently not supported. Please consider the following KnowledgeBase article for more details:

  • Winxp 64bit with ThinkPad W520

    Dear All,
for last time we purchased ThinkPad W520 ,  we receive it with Win 7 64bit , but we want work with Winxp 64 bit,
Anway, I'm tried to install Winxp 64 bit and to install driver , But no any driver work fine else the Network Ethernal adapater.
I don't know what is the problem i made update for Winodws .
When i try to install for eample the video card ,it's start extracting the files, then when the last windows apear that say finish ,i checked the box to start install video card, but it's dispare and nothing happend.
And for sure i change this option in BIOS ,  Disable the optumus from BIOS, and make it discrete graphics.
Same for USB3.0 not work also...
I hope there is way to fix drivers in Winxp 64 bit.
    Thank u.

While I never tried Winxp64 bit on my W520, I have tried using it before. It has a lot of driver issues like that because it was a very rare products so most 64bit drivers where desined for vista and up(Same with a lot of 64bit programs). Some will work but most have installer checks that have to be tricked into thinking that you are on a vista or higher machine. Most won't however do to the major changes that happened in vista and windows 7. That combined with the fact that I found Xp 64bit very unstable just on its on made me move away from it. Personally I feel that the changes Microsoft made in Windows 7 (both under the hood and UI) have major benifits and see very little reason to try to stick with xp.
Is there a reason that you need XP?

  • This iphone can not be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64bit version of itunes

This iphone can not be used because the required software is not installed. Run the itunes installer to remove itunes, then install the 64bit version of itunes
I keep getting the above error everytime I plug in my iphone.
I am not daft, I do have the 64bit version of iTunes installed already. When I installed itunes 10.5 and more recently 10.5.1 I got an error message that rolls back a section of the installation (The updater I think) before finishing off installing iTunes.
After the installation iTunes will work normally apart from when I try to connect a device. At which point I get the title error message and I can not sync my phone.
It's probably down to Itunes not installing properly however no matter what I try I can not sort the problem out. I've tried uninstalling all apple programmes followed by a registry clean, then reinstall. I've tried the same again but in a specific order. I've tried repairing iTunes, repairing the updater etc etc. Nothing seems to work. I'm out of ideas.
Has anybody had this problem? Please can somebody tell me how to fix it!
Getting an iPad this Christmas and if I can't sync that up to my PC I may just have to go over to ANDROID!!!

Is there a way to install this on its own?
Yeah, let's try a standalone Apple Mobile Device Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of why it's not installing under normal conditions.
Download and save a copy of the iTunes64Setup.exe installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunes64Setup.exe, and select "Extract to iTunes64Setup". WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunes64Setup".
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi to do a standalone AMDS install.
(If it offers you the choice to remove or repair, choose "Remove", and if the uninstall goes through successfully, see if you can reinstall by doubleclicking the AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi again.)
Does it install (or uninstall and then reinstall) properly for you? If so, does an iTunes install go through properly now?
If instead you get an error message during the install (or uninstall), let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • I want to install winXP to my iMAC running Lion OS.  I will use BootCamp.  My winXP uses 2 disks with XP on one CD and SP2 on the other.  Bootcamp seems to say use a one disk version.   What can I do about this paradox?

I want to install winXP on my iMac.  It has OS 10.7.2 and uses a 27" display.  I will use Bootcamp and create a separate partion for winXP.  Bootcamp instructions call for a single disk winXP CD with Service Pack 2 on it.  My version has winXP on one disk and Service pack 2 on another.  Will this be a problem?  If it is, is there a solution?
                                                                            Tnx...K6jpj

If you just bought an iMac a week ago new, it WILL NOT support XP unless XP is inside a virtual machine.  End of story.  You will need Windows 7 if you plan to run Windows natively on any Mac in 2011.
Used models will run XP, though--from the Intel inception in '06 through the middle part of 2010.
However, consider that Microsoft wants XP gone--and badly so--even as it is extending security hotfix support through April 2014.  This gives you two years and four months before you have to throw down for whatever's current at that time.
Windows 7 will give you a much better experience (dare I say more Mac-like?) than XP, as it seems to be better organized.  The Taskbar, for instance, has become more like the OS X Dock in that you can "pin" things to it in a straightforward manner, unlike XP's seldom-used Quick Launch traybar.
7's also built to take advantage of all the snazzy new hardware you now have.
But don't let me sell it to you.  It's really your call.

  • How can I install winxp to bootcamp on imac with bad optical drive?

I have a mid-2007 20" aluminum Intel-based iMac and I'm having trouble getting a clean install of MacOS10.5.8 and Win XP (through Bootcamp) on a new drive.
The problem stems from the fact that I have no internal optical drive.  My Superdrive began acting up a while ago (couldn't recognize, read from, or write to DVD). I replaced the drive, but the problem persisted.  Calling Apple Support, they determined (guessed?) the problem was the logic board, and, as the machine is out of warranty, isn't worth replacing.  No big deal - I've been using an external USB optical drive when needed.
However, my hard drive is beginning to experience issues (SMART Failure), and I want to reinstall everything MacOS, Bootcamp/Win XP on a clean new drive.  The problem is that I cant resinstall Win XP to Bootcamp without an internal drive (which seems unlikely to ever work).  I've tried creating a bootable USB key with the XP installation files going through the Bootcamp installation process using the WintoFlash/rEFIt method, but to no avail (won't recognize boot from USB).
Is it possible to remove the internal hard drive, boot from MacOS (10.5.8) on an external drive, and connect the optical drive to the sATA port where the internal drive was?  Or is there a second sATA port on these logic boards?  Or can I somehow connect the USB optical drive in a way that the iMAC thinks it's internal?  I'm not afraid of digging into the iMAC (changed HDD and Superdrive already).
Is there anyway to test the pATA connection on my logic board to find out if it's really the problem?  If it's not, maybe I can install WinXP on a second Windows formated drive, to take the space of the internal Superdrive.
There must be some good ideas out there somewhere.  Barring that, my only other option is to use Parallels and take the performance hit that comes with running a virtual machine.  UGH!

Actually, when I followed that link, one of the related links in More Like This was a real find!  An actual download of Aperture, albeit a trial, but that would have solved my problem too.  I tested it and although it's embeded in a support article, the link to the trial version of Aperture still works.
Thanks!  Great info here if you can find it.

  • Neo4 Plat SLI using SATA Raid cannot install WinXP 32

I recently purchased the neo4 platinum and was quite amazed what all comes with the board. However, I have spent quite a while trying unsuccessfully to get winxp installed. I was previously using a pci rocketraid card to run my 2 maxtor drives as a stripped raid.
Before doing the final shutdown and swap, I went into the rocketraid and deleted the array. Swapped boards (raid card did not follow), plugged in the 2 maxtors into sata ports 1 and 2. Configured nvidia raid bios settings to enable raid on sata ports 1 and 2. Entered nvidia raid bios, and created a stripped raid array with the 2 maxtors. Boot to winxp install, f6 and installed both drivers on included nvidia diskette. When I get to the partition selection, I have nothing but 'Unknown disk' listed several times. If I try to access one of these 'partitions' by either deleting or selecting, the system crashes (blue screen).
So, I deleted the nvidia array, the reinstalled my rocketraid card, and created an array on it. Went through the same install sequence, and am able to see the array as a selectable drive, and am able to install winxp on it. So, I am a bit lost on where to go from here.. I tried searching both here and google and I didnt see anyone with this particular problem. Id really love to get this bad boy running (a good upgrade for me), but it seems I am destined not to.  Please, someone help!

Inside the nvraid rom bios make sure to clear disk data and set raid bootable .
gah, sorry, I should have put that in my original post (did those).
So, a bit of an update... after a bit more futzing around, I have tried multiple times on deleting, recreating (and clearing data) arrays, trying with and without setting to boot. After the 2nd or so array creation, my problem has slightly changed. Now, windows install does not recognize any hdd's present and wont continue.
Out of curiosity, I blasted the array from the nvidia bios, then went into main bios, disabled nvidia raid, and enabled sil raid. Hooked up the drives to sil raid, and created an array. Windows install see's the array, and is currently installing to it. Now, while this may function as a work aorund (if it completes) I think I read somewhere the nvidia raid is not on the pci bus, but the sil raid is (which is why I want to use the nvraid). So, aside from any input or suggestions about resolving the problem I am having, any input on the differences between the two raid setups?
edit- windows successfully installed on the sil raid array, but I still would like a fix for the nvraid

  • Trouble installing WinXP on a SATA drive on K9MM-V Mainboard

I am having some trouble trying to install WinXP on a K9MM-V.  I have put a 250Gig SATA 300 drive set to 150 in channel 1 and an SATA DVD drive in channel 2.  The BIOS appears to recognize both drives, but anytime I try to access the HD during the boot process I get this error:
    Verifying DMI Pool Data ….
    A disk read error occurred.
I set the CD as the first in the boot sequence and ran the WinXP installation and then installed the SATA PIDE drivers at the f6 prompt.  When I chose the IDE emulation (non-raid) WinXP only recognized 135GB but then was able to format.  When I rebooted, (having reset the BIOS boot order to HD first) the error appeared.
When I installed the RAID drivers, but let the SATA mode remain as IDE, Windows recognized the full disk, ran the format, but on reboot I had the same error.
I’m pretty sure that I have some BIOS configuration wrong, but I can’t seem to figure it out.  Any advoce on things to look for would be appreciated.

You need to use XP SP2 in order to install on BIG drives.
OK, I thought that I would install XP sp1 then update, but I guess you need to slipstream the patch in.  On the other hand, that disk read error threw me.  It looked like it happened before Windows tried to load.
    Thanks.

  • OS X wouldn't install after accidentally installing Windows over it

My sister attempted to install Windows XP on her Macbook Pro using boot camp but some how accidentally installed Windows over OS X. I used Disk Utility to erase the drive and reformat it back to "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)" but I get the following error when trying to install OS X:
    +"Install Failed+
+Mac OS X could not be installed on your computer+
+The Installer cannot prepare the volume for installation. You may need to prepare your disk using Disk Utility.+
+Click Restart to restart your computer and try installing again."+
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a problem setting or hardware wise?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
In addition to formatting, you need to be sure the disk is partitioned GUID for an Intel machine.
Boot into Leopard DVD and run disk utility again and repartition it and format it at the same time. Because of the bootcamp issue, you might be better making two partitions first and then making one to be sure that the entire disk has a single GUID/HFS+ partition/format scheme.

I have the 64bit version of itunes on windows 7. When I connect my iphone5 it says that I don't have the correct software and that I need to install itunes 64bit! And I can go no further! I've uninstalled and reinstalled but it makes no difference. I have no access to other computers so at the moment I don't have a backup for my iphone should anything go wrong.
    Please Help!

    Hello ekbowers,
It sounds like you have installed the 64 bit version of iTunes, but you continue to the get an error message that suggests to download the 64 bit version any time you connect your iPhone 5.  I understand that you have already uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, but sometimes you may need to uninstall additional components related to iTunes to completely remove it from your system.
I recommend following the steps in this article to completely uninstall iTunes:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Once you have completely uninstalled iTunes, you can download the 65 bit version of iTunes for Windows here:
    iTunes 11.0.4 for Windows 64
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1615
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
