Accidentally lost Finder "Movie" folder icon-Help

I accidentally dragged the "Movie" folder in the Finder Window onto the desktop and when I tried dragging it back to the Finder, it lost it's Icon design(it's just a regular blue folder now).
How can I restore it's custom icon without having to reinstall Tiger. Thanks in advance!
G4 Dual 1.0Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

The Finder has certain "special" folders in your home directory. They are recognized as special just by their name. If you have a folder named "Movies" it will be given the custom folder icon in your home folder and the even more special icon when in the sidebar. It only has these special icons when it is in the home folder. By moving it you disrupted this. Putting it back ought to fix it, but Finder may have developed amnesia about it or just isn't refreshing itself. Try restarting.

itunes 10.5.3 lost my Apple TV icon: Help!

This happened to us and through much trial and error, this is what we did to fix it:
Go to iTunes ----> Preferences -------> Apple TV and see if your Apple TV is listed as streaming from there.  Remove the Apple TV.  Close iTunes.  Open iTunes.  Your Apple TV should now show under devices and ask you to set it up.  Enter the code and set it up with your iTunes.  That worked for us.  Good luck!

  • I have now lost my movie folder in itunes n my computer is there any way to replace the folder??

I have now lost my movie folder within itune on my computer, is there anyway to replace or put in a folder for movies

Uh, the developer forums is not the place to ask a question about iTunes.
Which kind of computer. A Mac or Windows?  No matter, the answer is to use your backup you make of your computer against this kind of loss.

  • Finder Files/Folder arrangements: Help Needed!

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to Mac and I would like to know how you can set Finder to automatically view all files / folders in order of name? without having to change the view of each individual folder
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Regards,
    Ollie

I think I can answer your question. I just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard and encountered a similar problem. I think I've found a solution.
After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I noticed that when I used "Icon View" in Finder (which is how I've always used Finder), the icons were completely scrambled and were dispersed randomly all over the window, like a deck of cards strewn on the floor. Some icons were even overlapping other icons. The solution I finally found was to open a finder window, then navigate to any folder in my user account, then right click in a blank area inside the window, then select "Show View Options" from the dropdown menu. This brings up a small preferences pane. Then go to the "Arrange By" dropdown menu in the pane. Then select "Name" from that menu. Then click on the "Use as Defaults" button at the bottom of the pane. Then close the pane. That seemed to work for finder windows. For the Desktop, I got the same results by right-clicking on an empty space on the Desktop and following the same procedure, except that you won't need to click the "Use as Defaults" button at the bottom of the preferences pane for the Desktop, because there is no such button. These simple steps seemed to do the trick. If you have multiple user accounts on your Mac, you may need to repeat these steps for each user account.
Incidentally, I should mention that before I discovered this solution I called AppleCare support and they told me the only thing I could do was to navigate to each individual folder on my Mac and right-click inside the Finder window for that folder and select "Arrange by Name". The guy who was helping me talked to someone above him in the AppleCare hierarchy who said exactly the same thing. Both of these people said that there was no way to universally change the Finder settings for icon arrangement. They said I had to do it folder-by-folder, for all the thousands of folders on my Mac. I was ready to revert to Leopard, but decided to experiment for a few minutes to see whether I could find a solution. That's how I came up with the solution outlined above.

  • Can't find Playlists folder to help me stream with Subsonic.

    HI there.
    I’m runnun iTunes 11 on OS 10.8.4.
I’ve used iTunes constantly for many years and do tons of library organization, have made hundreds of playlists, have a massive library with relatively few problems (in recent years at least) and use home sharing to stream to Apple TV, controlled with iPhone and iPad.
I want to use Subsonic for long distance streaming, and setting it up to find the music files was no problem, they are on an external drive, the the rest should be on my main drive.   But I’ll be dang - diddley - anged if i can find the folder containing my playlists.
Subsonic’s default suggested path is /Users/Shared/Playlists.   (Shouldn’t it say iTunes in there somewhere?)  My Users/Shared folder has folders for other app’s like Adobe, but nothing for iTunes or Playlists.
Under my own Username there is Music, and iTunes within that, but here’s where it gets weird and messy. The only folder with a promising name within, iTunes Playlists, contains only about a dozen xml files of specific playlists I exported to use with a label maker, and co-responding folder called Playlist Acoustica Labels, with a handful of similarly named files.
Searching in Finder, the only folders with Playlists in the name are within the location: Username/Music/beaTunes/   Besides a few that were obviously custom named by me within BeaTunes,  there is one called iTunes Library (biglong#insidebrackets), and another simply called Playlists.   This final folder has a copy of what looks something like my libraries playlists, but from 2 years ago, when I last even tried to really use BeaTunes; the playlist .m3u8 files are all dated as last modified in 2011, with folders and playlists I’ve since deleted, and nothing new created since then.  (The only files that are updated for this morning are de-highlted .DS_Store files, whatever the heck those are.)
By the way, the reason I stopped trying to use BeaTunes was it never worked for me, not once.  After taking like, seriously, hours to load my library, I had it generate a custom list based on a sample track, and it produced other tracks from the same album.  That was $40 or however much well spent.  Anyone with a  huge library ever have any luck with it?  What a waste.
Anyway, those are seriously the only folders I can find anywhere called Playlists.   I’ve been surfing Apple Support Pages and various forums for answers, and nothing is clearing anything up.  (Of course there is the red herring hits from people referring to the Playlist Folders *inside iTunes you create to group actual playlists,*  but nothing else than similar dead ends regarding system folders with playlist files.
Some of the typically mystifying Apple genius/whatever pages seem to be directing me towards a file within iTunes Media called iTunes Music Library.xml (and with Backup in the name just before .xml, and some other variations of old versions of the same.   The doc’s and some posters seem to indicate that these contain all the iTunes metadata.  I tried directing Subsonic to this file, and to the folder containing it, but nothing ever changes; Subsonic’s Home Screen always shows all my artists, but nothing under Playlists.
I saw something about another file called iTunes Libary.itl as a companion to .xml, and I tried that one too nothing.  The iTunes Media > iTunes file I’ve found much of this in DID, by the way, have what looked like all of the apps that I’ve bought, probably all my iPhone Voice Notes, and a group of E-music mp3’s I downloaded when my external drive hook up was not working, redirecting my library to the Main HD before I switched it back and copied all those files to the correct music location..  So the evidence say this iTunes location is running the  media on the external drive, and can’t find anything for iTunes on the external except for the music files.
I’m just stumped.  I wish there was a way to right click a playlist name, like you can a song in iTunes, and select “Show file in Finder.”  But I tried it, right clicking does nothing.  So I’m out of ideas.
Oh yeah, I also have an app running that makes invisible files visible.  That didn’t help either.  Man I’m just out of ideas here.  Something so simple, but then I’ve seen Mac complicate simple things before with no warning or disregard, so I’m hoping someone knows something to help me find where these things live.  This thing has devoured my Sunday morning.
Any and all help and assistance is greatly appreciated.  Thanks all.
    Best,
    Brian

    Dear Brian:
Create a Play List in iTunes.
Control-Click and open "Export" in the highlighted Playlist in iTunes.
    With "Export" opened:
    1. Click on "Format" and choose "M3U";
    2. In "Save As" name your "WhatEverNamePlaylist.m3u"; and
    3. In "Where" tell the program where to send your "WhatEverNamePlaylist.m3u".
You are done creating the Playlist.m3u in iTunes.
    Open "Subsonic Web Page".
Left hand column open "Import playlist".
In "Import playlist" click "Choose File" and open the "WhatEverNamePlaylist.m3u"; you created in iTunes.
The "WhatEverNamePlaylist.m3u" should now occupy the space between "Choose File" and "OK".
    Click "OK".
The file should now be in the "Playlist" on the left.

  • Old 2G ipod with folder icon - help

    Hi there
I'm having trouble with my old iPod, i think it's either a 2G or a 3G 30 gig classic which has served me very well up until now. Yesterday it just turned itself off in the middle of playing so I reset it and when it came back up again there was a folder icon with an exclamation point.
I've been to apple support and followed the instructions for this error message - I've done a reset with the play/pause and menu buttons, the apple icon came up on it but then the folder icon came straight back.
Next step was to connect it to itunes to do a restore but itunes does not recognise it (no error messages, 'ipod' just doesn't show up in the left hand menu like it normally does) so I can't restore it.
If I hold it to my ear I can hear something whirring around constantly.
Any ideas? I know its' old but it's been brilliant up until now.
    I'm using OS X 10.5.5.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Restored IPOD but still seeing exclamation point folder icon -- Help!

    Hi,
I'm trying to get my IPOD back up and running and am having difficulty. I've tried all the Rs and downloaded the iTunes 7.0 software. After restoring it twice, I was disappointed to see it didn't work. I'm still seeing the icon with the exclamation point and my computer is not recognizing it. Still says it's corrupted and needs to be restored. I go through the process but it always returns to the corrupted status. Any other suggestions? I'd like to repair it myself but don't know where else to look in terms of what part to replace.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Accidentally lost the FitBrains app/icon from my iphone

Where has the icon/app gone?  It is still in my iTunes library C:\Users\Maria\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications\Fit Brains 1.6.2  In iTunes I have sync'ed my iphone with my laptop; dragged the FitBrains icon app to my iPhone in iTunes; all my iPhone screens with their apps show in iTunes and I see Fitbrains on the first screen of my iPhone in iTunes.  However when I check the phone and listing of apps it is not there.
Both iPhone4S and iTunes display of my iPhone show 163 apps  11.35 GB

MetaSolaray thanks for your suggestions.  I had tried the latter;hadn't seen FitBrains. After resetting the home layout  when I checked App Store > Updates > Purchased > Not on This Phone>, 'Fit bRains Trainer' shows up with the icloud download icon to the right.  Clicking on this turns to the 'bull's-eye' circle but no download.  I will check the FirBrains site; I really enjoyed this app on the bus commute and bought a lifetime license.  Thanks!

  • Finder folder icon - duplicated

In finder the folder icon for Mobile Documents appears in my side bar; and under Movies. How do I get rid of the folder display under Movie. I do not want to run the risk of deleting my Mobile Documents?

Balouta wrote: ... I do not want to remove the folder: but want to remove the view of it in Movies (not the side bar) ...
There are two simple ways to remove the view of a folder (in your case "Mobile Docs") that is in your Movies folder.  There is also third party software that can hide folders, but, because some of them can damage your file system if used improperly, I suggest you not use that approach until you have more Mac OS X experience.
Here are the explanations for the two safe and simple possibilities represented in the image below:
    (1) With your Finder View Options for the iMovie folder set so Finder does NOT arrange or sort your icons:
drag the Mobile Docs folder iCon just off the edge of the Movies folder window but keep the mouse pointer INSIDE the Movies folder window frame.  Now use the slider bar at the bottom of the folder window to slide the window farther, drag the Mobile Docs folder iCon a bit further, and continue repeating until the Mobile Docs iCon is out of your normal Movies folder window view.  Slide the window back to normal and resize the window if necessary to prevent any part of your Mobile Docs folder iCon from being visible.  Here is my best try at a picture of how this works:
    (2) Here is the second simple method of hiding a folder.
Drag the folder you do NOT want to see into a different folder.  This will hide the first folder by making it a sub-folder of a folder you do not need to hide.  In the case of my example here, I have created an empty folder with the made-up name "Completed Movie Projects". Here is my best try at a picture of how this works:
Balouta wrote:... Mobile Docs is in my side bar (in Finder) which is fine; but the folder is also sitting in Movies...
See the previous part of this response if you want to hide the folder.
Balouta wrote:...When Movies is highlighted Mobile Docs appears as a folder to the right. If I control click mobile docs under movies I have the option of moving the folder to the trash....
You can control whether you delete the folder or the sidebar iCon by selecting the proper item before control-click as shown in the images below :
Balouta wrote:... I am afraid that if I move it to the trash I will actually be deleting the folder and contents not just the icon displaying the folder.
There is no need to fear as long as you pay attention to the prompts while you are deleting items.  Moverover, even it you do move something to the Trash, you can retrieve it from the Trash folder so long as you have not already "emptied" the Trash.

Adobe is working on HTML  based version of Adobe Watermark, eMailer, etc.
If some extensions are must have for you, you have to continue to use PS CC until HTML based counterparts become available.

  • Have two users one is a test one is mine all the sudden mine lost the applications folder and now when i open my user it opens but wont respond to anything and i have to power it down and restart any clues

I have two users one is mine, one is a test i set up with apple care. Everything was working fine then i lost my applications folder icon on my user. I have been using the Finder to open applications, now when i open my user the mouse travels but i'm not able to get a respond from anything ,it's almost like its frozen. I have power off and restart and use the test user. Anyone have a clue or any ideas?

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

  • Auto assign folder icon as folder.jpg

back in the dark ages (when i used widows), i had all my music separated into different folder for each album. In each folder i would put the cover, calling it folder.jpg, and windows would assign the folder icon as that jpg.
now, how can i assign each folder's folder.jpg as the icon for each folder, so that in Finder the folder icon is the cover?
naturally, this would need to be done in an automated manner, as i have thousands of albums.

I've played around with this a little (seemed like a fun task to work on).
I'm not sure what the best way to give these instructions is, so if you need more help with any step, please let me know.
WARNING: I've tested this as best I can, but there may be issues. I advise making a backup first and doing a test run.
    1) Install osxutils (I used macports to do this)
    2) Open Automator and create a new workflow with the following items in order:
Ask for Finder items select Type: Folders
Get folder Contents with Repeat for sub folders selected
Filter Finder Items with File Type is JPEG
Add Thumbnail Icon to Image Files
    Run Shell Script
In the shell script you want to pass the input as arguments and paste the following into the text window
    for f in $@
    do
    dir=`echo $f | sed 's/\(.)/./\1/'`
    /opt/local/bin/seticon $f $dir
    done
    3) Save as application and run.
    Some things to note:
You may need to change the location of seticon in the shell script if you install osxutils using a method other than macports.
This script adds thumbnails to your jpeg files, this seems like a harmeless side effect to me, but you should know that it is happening.
If you want to remove an icon, get info on it, select the icon and press the backspace key.
