Accidentally removed "@" icon from Dock (launches safari)

Hi,
I accidentally removed the "@" icon from the far right side of the Dock (it launches safari). Can anyone tell me how I can get it back?
Thanks,
Josef

*Hi Joseph, Welcome (Back)* to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
Hmmnnn, I did not know you could launch Safari that way. The "@" usually is a URL that has been dragged to that location.
The standard way to get an App onto the Dock is to go to the Apps folder and drag the app to where you want it in the left portion of the dock. It will then stay there until you right (Control) click on it and ask that it be removed from the Dock.
Hope that's helpful.
Good Luck, JP
Hi ~Bee. You came in while I was typing.

I accidentally removed iphoto from dock, please help?
iPhoto isn't in my applications to I can't drag it to dock.  All images and movies are still on Mac (heart did stop as I thought I'd lost everything and nearly cried) but I don't know how to get iPhoto back.  I'm worried about trying different things as don't want to lose anything on Mac.  Noticed that I haven't been using Time Machine and bought a couple of years ago so not sure what operating with.  I have our 2 CDs from when we bought the Mac - 13-inch Macbook Pro (Mac OS X Install DVD) and 13 inch MacBook Pro (Applications Install DVD).  My photos are not backed up so not sure if I need to do this first - can I back up to iCLoud or do I need newer software?
Any help would be greatly appreciated - need lots of step by step instructions though!

All images and movies are still on Mac
Of course they are.  Deleting an app doesn't delete the files that's in it.

  • Accidentally removed download from dock

Hi, I'm a new mac user. I accidentally removed download and documents from the dock and I want them back. Not sure how to do this. Thanks

Downloads and Documents are folders in your home folder (the one with the house icon). The icons in the Dock are just aliases (shortcuts) to those folders.
To restore them to the Dock, just drag the folder from the home folder in the Finder window to it's place in the Dock (to the right of the divider, or below it if you have the Dock down the side). Wait until the other icons move out of the way for it before releasing the mouse button.
Don't try to drag the ones from the Finder sidebar; they're just aliases too.

  • Can't remove icon from dock?

So I recently updated my macbook to newer software and i had to also download a newer version of pages, keynote and numbers. These became new icons in my launchpad so I dragged them down to my dock. I restarted my computer so that the other 3 old icons would disappear but they remained. I deleted them then emptied trash and have become question marks now. I still can't seem to remove them from my dock? Any help? Thank you.

When I right click on the the question mark and hover over the "Options" it does not come up with anything.

  • Can't remove icons from dock

I purchased a brand new macbook pro today, and I have been trying to remove certain icons from the dock for the last half hour. I am completely unable to click and drag the icons, not even to reposition them on the dock. Also, when I hold the control button and click on an icon on the dock, the "remove from dock" option is completely absent. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks!

Open the Terminal in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and run:
    defaults write com.apple.dock contents-immutable -bool false;killall Dock

  • HT3739 accidentally removed stacks from dock

How do I get it back?

Which stacks? Those are aliases to the original folders, so find the ones you want to restore and drag them onto the Dock.

  • Accidentally removed Ical from dock   help............

I just passed over Ical in my leopard dock. I didn't double click. I seemed to have pulled it away.

Thank you for your help. As it turned out yesterday, I did this very thing. Having had 8 pc computers and now a mac, I've learned to explore. I figured it out last night, but appreciate your help. I only wish the type face was bigger on the calendar, except for changing the resolution.
    Thank you looter.

  • I accidentally removed launchpad from my dock? what to do?

I accidentally removed launchpad from my dock? What to do now???

You know you can customize the Dock to whatever you like, right? You can drag things out if you don't want them, or add things by dragging them in from the Applications folder. Drag Launchpad back from the Applications folder into the Dock to add it back again.

  • How can I remove icons from the Finder sidebar?  Were transferred when I set up laptop from my desktop computer.  Tried dragging off but that didn't work.

How can I remove icons from the Finder sidebar?  Transferred info from my Mac Pro desktop computer (using target mode) and there were folder icons on the Mac Pro Finder sidebar that are now on the MacBook Finder sidebar, even though these folders do not exist on the MacBook.  Tried to drag them off, which is the usual way to get rid of folders that the user adds to the sidebar (as opposed to those that can be added via the Customize Toolbar dropdown menu) but was unsuccessful.  I then unchecked all of the Customize Toolbar menu items and the folder icons still remained.  What else can I do?

Did you hold the Command (Apple) key while dragging them off the sidebar? That usually makes them go *poof*.

  • How do i remove icons from iphone

how do i remove icons from my iphone. i decided i do not want the app so i paused it. now i want to remove it.

If you want to remove an app, press and hold on any app until they 'wiggle'. You will see a small 'x' by each one you can remove. Tap the 'x' and it will be removed. When done, press the home key.

  • HT201250 How do I get Time Machine back on my dock? I made a mistake and removed it from dock, somehow ended up in trash, what do I do

How do I get Time Machine back on my dock? I made a mistake and removed it from dock, somehow ended up in trash, what do I do?

Uh…you're saying two entirely different things here. If you removed Time Machine from the Dock, it could not be in the Trash. But if you removed it from your Applications or Utilities folder and put it in the Trash, that's a problem.
So, which one did you really do?

  • Why can't I remove icons from desktop

Why can't I remove or relocate icons on the desktop. When I attempt to do so a circle with a slash thru it appears and it snaps back to it's original position. I also can not remove icons from the trash to the desktop for the same reason.

This may fix it. Open Terminal in Utilities and Copy/Paste -- don't attempt to type this in. This will set the correct Permissions on your Home Folder. (Disk Utility Permissions Repair won't touch these.)
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
    Then hit return.
If you've never used the sudo command before, you will get a warning and then be prompted to enter your admin password, which you won't see on the screen as you type it in.
Wait until you get a new $ sign prompt and then close the window.

  • Remove icons from right end of menu bar

On the Apple site I saw this procedure to remove icons from the right end of the menu bar : To rearrange the menu bar icons on the right end of the menu bar, hold down the Command key while dragging the icons. To remove them, hold down the Command key and drag them out of the menu bar.
It does not work with 10.6.8. As soon as I approach an icon it opens a menu wether I use the right or left hand side of the mouse. I cannot simply drag, as suggested.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thank you in advance

Some can't be moved or removed.
Check their respective System Preference, perhaps there is a option there to remove it from the menu bar.
