Accidentally renamed "Music" folder - help!

I just did something really stupid. I renamed my "Music" folder (in the Finder sidebar... I also have lots of audio recordings, so I renamed it "Music/Recordings"
When I opened iTunes, my entire library had disappeared.. and earlier when I was clicking on the "Music" folder, I got a message saying the volume could not be found.
I tried searching in my home folder from the Finder sidebar, and I see my original "Music" folder with nothing in it... and the one I renamed "Music/Recordings" with my iTunes library and other sound files.
Now, how do I go back to where I was before I renamed everything... and get everything back in my Music folder?
Thanks!!!

The best solution is to put things back as they were by…
1) Restart
2) Delete the "Music" folder, the one with nothing in it
3) Rename the "Music/Recordings" folder back to "Music"
4) Restart
… and everything should now be back to what it was.

  • ITunes music folder help

I have been trying to save space on my laptops small hardrive by telling iTunes to put my music folder in an external hardrive that I have connected. My problem is that I accidentally deleted my music a while ago and in an effort to try and get it back into iTunes through an iPod ripping application for some reason iTunes made another iTunes music folder in my "my music" folder. I just want to be able to listen to my music in iTunes and preferably be able to automatically update my iPod still without it taking up my regular hardrive space.
I am also wondering if there is a way to export whole playlists from my iPod into iTunes without using iPod ripping software because it will duplicate all of my songs that way.
Thank you for any and all suggestions.

I had the same problem you are having a year or so ago. I was transferring my music from a shared folder through a network. I copied the contents of the folder with the music into it and I had to locate everything manually. I can't guarantee that thie will oslve your problem because I never tried it, but maybe if you copy all of your music to your existing iTunes music folder first and then copy the music from the iTunes music folder it might work. I'm not sure exactly where your music is stored now, but if it is somewhere else than the iTunes music folder created by iTunes this could work. Before you copy the music though you will want to delete everything in your existing library (make sure you keep the files though when it asks) so that you don't have a bunch of duplicates. I hope this helps.

  • Accidentally moved a folder-help

I am running Windows XP and use Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition 3.2 to download & view my pictures from my camera's memory card. I was trying to put some pictures on a cd (using Windows Explorer) and accidentally moved a picture folder (I'll call it Beach) into another picture folder (I'll call it Sports). The "Beach" folder shows up in the "Sports" folder but properties show that the "Beach" folder is empty. When I go to view the photos in Adobe, I see the annoying red reconnect symbol in the "Beach" folder and I cannot view the photos at all. I have read the forums and see that others have had this problem but cannot seem to find a solution. I have tried right clicking a picture in the folder and selecting "reconnect". It then searches forever and comes up with another box that says "The source file(s) you've selected annot be found at the locations stored in the catalog. They may have been moved and/or renamed. Please reconnect these catalog items to their source files." I can't reconnect the files because the "Beach" folder is empty. I didn't delete anything, but the folder is still empty. I know this is lengthy but was hoping if I gave enough info that someone would be able to help... Any suggestions?

Somehow, when you moved the Beach folder into the Sports folder, the images
seem to have been deleted. (I'm assuming here that you've opened up the
    Beach folder and it's empty)
I hate to say it, but you may be out of luck. There's nothing Starter
Edition can do to help. It thinks the photos are in Beach, but they are not
there. The image that you are seeing in Starter Edition is just a low
resolution thumbnail copy that SE made when you first imported the photos.
It does not actually manage or keep the real image file. That's Windows job.
About the only thing to do at this point is use Window Search to search you
entire hard drive for the photos. Pick one of them, get the filename, and
search for it. If you find one, chances are the rest of them will be there.
    Good luck

  • Another Zen V+, accidentally deleted wallpaper folder, help on restoratio

I accidentally deleted the pre-made wall papers folder with all of the samples in it when clearing out all of the sample files. I want to use one of my own pictures for the wall paper, but when I made my own "Wall Papers" folder, and put the picture in, the Zen V+ under Pictures>Wall Paper it says there are no acti've Wall Papers. Is there a way to reformat the firmware completely? I tried updating it and that did nothing at all.
    Thanks Alex

No, they haven't. Go to http://www.epizenter.net/e07_plugins...php?47589.post. They're all there, at least when I go there in my browser. EDIT: Ouch I see what you mean. But If you search Preloaded Wallpapers, they do show up. Anyway, I'll put them here. Sorry if I'm doing anything wrong guys, haven't seen many photos in the forums. • HELP! I Accidentally deleted the iTunes folder in the My Music folder

HELP! I Accidentally deleted the iTunes folder in the My Music folder so I lost the two files
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Music Library.xml
As I understand it, these files contain all the play counts, ratings, etc. and I've spent weeks getting this info the way I want it and don't want to lose it.
I have all my mp3 files on my desktop computer HD under a seperate directories, so I'm not worried about loosig origninal music files. I don't have iTunes copying the files when I add them to the library and I do have "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" checked. I have not relocated any of the original music files.
I have not auto synced my iPod, and I can open the iPod in iTunes and all my songs, with play counts, ratings, etc. are there. I just want to get the playlists, play counts. ratings, catagories, etc. back to my PC.
Is there any way to get the playlists, play counts. ratings, catagories, etc. from the data on the iPod and recreate the .itl & .xml files on my PC? I see there are many files on the iPod two of which look promising "iTunesDB" & "iTunesPlaylists".
Can someone please tell my how to recreate just the .itl & .xml files by using the info on the iPod itself? Again, I have not relocated or lost any of the original music files, I just want to get the playlists, play counts. ratings, catagories, etc. back that are stored in the .itl file.
I really don't want to have a software utility copy the info over as then I will have two copies of my music files and I've spent a lot of time organizing and naming the mp3 files just the way I want (not the way iTunes wants).
I've read many posts and it seems many have screwed up recovery by trying things without clear direction.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Try some of the more robust recovery/trnsfer programs. Several can recover the playlists, and metadata of the songs on the iPod. Do some reading on the respective websites.
These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
After recovering your song files, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy: http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=394618&messageID=1263275

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup.

  • Help With Transferring Files into iTunes Music Folder

Last year, my computer crashed and I had no backup. I used a program called Sharepod to import all my music from my iPod onto my new computer. Now, all that tranferred music resides in C:\Program Files\Sharepod.
The songs play just fine out of iTunes, but because I'm a little OCD I'd really like them to be in the iTunes Music folder where they belong. But I've found that when I drag the songs from the Sharepod folder to the iTunes Music folder, I then have to help iTunes "locate" each song one by one. It's very tedious.
Is there a better way to do this?
    Many thanks!

Yes. Once songs are in your iTunes library, do not move or rename them in Windows. If you want to get them all in one place, use the iTunes Consolidate command.

  • I Renamed Home Folder and lost all settings, jpgs, mp3s, photos etc. HELP!

First off, have a MacBook, 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo w/4GBs of RAM OS 10.5.8
I followed what I thought were proper procedures to change the name of the Home Folder from "macbook" to "rocki"
I followed the instructions at Mac OS X v10.6 and earlier: How to change user account name or home directory name
For Mac OS X 10.5 or later
    1. Enable the root user.
    2. Log in as root.
    3. Navigate to the /Users folder.
    4. Select the Home folder with the short name you want to change, and rename it just like you would rename any folder. Keep in mind that the shortname must be all lowercase, with no spaces, and only contain letters.
At this point I skipped steps 5 & 6 Since I already had a user named the name I wanted "Rocki" I thought I didn't need to do this. So went onto Steps 7-9, and NO everything was NOT there.
    5. Use the Accounts pane in System Preferences to create a new user with the Account name or Short Name that you used in the previous step.
    6. Click OK when "A folder in the Users folder already has the name 'account name'. Would you like to use that folder as the Home folder for this user account?" Note: This will correct the ownership of all files in the Home folder, and avoid permissions issues with the contents.
    7. Choose Log Out from the Apple menu.
    8. Log in as the newly created user. You should be able to access all of your original files (on the desktop, in Documents, and in the other folders of this Home).
    9. After verifying that your data is as expected, you can delete the original user account via the Accounts pane of System Preferences. At this point I skipped step 10 b/c nothing was there as usual.
    10. Disable the root user.
All my data and settings were not there. So I went back logged in as Root, navigated to the Users folder, and saw that there were two folders, one said "macbook" even though I previously just named it and there was also another folder named "rocki" there. Seeing two folders and wanting to return back to normal I deleted that "rocki" folder, I had just created, and logged back out of root and logged back into the only user I had, which was also named "rocki" which is the admin and the user that had all my files and settings originally before I tried to change the name of the home folder. And no change, everything is gone and missing.
To clarify, originally, I had a home folder named MacBook and a user named Rocki. Everything was cool and worked great! But I wanted to change that home folder name to match the user name. Whoops!
What can I do to go back to normal?!?!?!!?!? Please help me!! I'm so screwed. If I can't go back to normal, how do I find all the missing files and what not?!?
    Thanks so much in advance!

  • Help: iTunes freezes when I try to change the music folder location

    Hi everyone,
I want to change my iTunes music folder location but every time I click on the change button (Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Change) iTunes freezes. All of my music is in an external drive and I recently reinstalled windows, so I had to back up the old iTunes folder and replace the default one (after the reinstallation) with it, but now I can't set the new location of the drive because of this problem.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated
    A.

Okay. Finally called Apple, and they said that this is something to do with the latest iTunes - 10.6 - and the only way to solve it is to restore my iPod, and then arrange it so I manually manage my music, etc. Which I learned how to do here: http://en.kioskea.net/faq/3740-how-to-manually-manage-music-and-videos-in-itunes  It worked. Woo-hoo!

I accidentally deleted a folder of music from iTunes.  I have Match, and now it seems deleted from all my devices.  How can I get it back?

Were you in iTunes or the Finder? If you were in iTunes what exactly did you click? You say "a folder" but the only "folders" in iTunes contain Playlists and deleting a playlist will not delete tracks from the iTunes library.
When you deleted the music were you prompted to delete the tracks from the cloud? If so, did you do so?
Were you prompted to move the files to the Trash. If so did you do so? If you did have you emptied the Trash?

  • ITunes Music Folder Location - PLEEEEASE HELP

All my music on iTunes is saved to an external hard drive. Every few months or so, iTunes will automatically change the location for the iTunes Music Folder to the wrong destination. When I change it back to the actual source of the music on my external hard drive, iTunes will not recognize the songs without me manually inputting the song locations one song at a time (10,000+ songs).
The only thing I can think of is to remove all music from iTunes and readd it, but this is DEVASTATING as I have about 30 playlists which are not easy to recreate whatsoever.
So, I either need to know how I can get iTunes to recognize the songs, without losing all my playlists...
Or I want to know why iTunes changes the Music Folder Location, so I can stop this from happening in the future.
This has happened to me twice before, and it's been absolutely DEVASTATING each time. I posted twice previously and no one helped me. I am desperate to stop this madness. Please help!

I don't know whether I have a solid answer for you or not, but thought I will share my thought with you. Of course this assumes that you know where we designate the path to store the iTunes Music Files.
Could the "folder path changing" problem be due to the fact that you have it in an EXTERNAL drive? I have my Original CDs copied into the external drive but I maintain the iTunes Music folder on my internal hard drive and let iTunes manage that. Time to time, i copy that to my external drive for safe keeping.
Now in your case, it is the external drive. The question becomes the full path name with which iTunes finds this location. Being an external drive, the Drive Letter assigned to it could chnage depending on what otherd evices you may have connected to your PC at the time - one time it could be F, and another time it could be G and so on. Could this be causing you the random problem?
    It is an idea!
