Accidentally replaced lightroom catalog master folder with edited pictures.

So I went on a trip this past weekend to Tahoe. I edited some of the pictures and created a Tahoe 2011 folder and the desktop and decided to put it in my pictures folder on my macbook. It asked if i want to replace and not thinking i said yes. Does anyone know how to get the pictures on the catalog back? I never had set up time machine and now i'm hating myself for it.
I tried hitting command + Z a couple times, but there was nothing to undo.

I was using lightroom 3.6. I did the update right after/before, can't remember. The update was so you can olympus cameras or something. Tahoe 2011 ircat folder is saved under default on my pictures folder on the mac hdd. i edited some pics and created a folder called tahoe 2011 on the desktop and than without thinking moved it to where the ircat folder is. It asked me to stop, continue, or replace. Without thinking, i hit replace. After i realized this, i hit command Z to retrieve it back. Nothing worked. I don't have the pictures on my memory card anymore either.

  • Master folder, with projects in it?

I just started importing pictures to Aperture. I have a master folder, and I just fill it with projects. The projects will be - vacations etc. I`m planning to have albums under the projects, that says Berlin 2013 etc. From these albums I will make slideshows etc.
Is this a smart way, or should I  make folders called Vaccations, concerts etc, and then sub levels of projects, like Berlin 2013?

Don't make your projects too large.
It is easier to have nested folders, for example "Vacations > Antarctica 2014 > Peninsula" and then a project for each day.
You can add  albums at each level of the folders. It is easy to collapse folders and get large parts of the library out of the way when browsing this way.
Selecting any folder at any level will reveal all photos in it.

  • Help ! Can't replace file in file folder with same file from mail

After migrating from Mountain Lion to Mavericks, everytime I want to save attachment file from mail to file folder that has same file name, after clicking "Replace", the attachment file doesn't replace the old one.
This problem didn't exist, after migrating from Lion to Mountain Lion.
What should I do to fix it ?
    Thanks.

The best thing to do is to move the search and replace functionality to before the string coming out of the file is changed into an array. Do it there and all you need is 2 instances of the Search and Replace String function. One replaces all the "/" with "-" and one changes all the "." to ",".

  • Backing up lightroom catalog - preview folder?

If the preview folder is not backed up, what effect does this have on lightroom?  I am thinking only main effect would be those images that are no longer connected, you will lose their thumbnails/previews.  Am I right in my thinking?  For backup routines, do you usually include the preview subfolder?

The LR backup does not include backing up previews, it backs up the catalog file itself. These can be regenerated at any time, so backing them up isn't necessary, and if backup outside of LR I am not sure how you would re link them anyway so perhaps would be pointless.

  • Lightroom 4.3 hanging whilst editing picture

I'm regularly getting the following error when using lightroom.  It can happen at anytime though usually in the develop module, Lightroom will start to hang and then i'll get the following windows error.  This has happened in in Lightroom 4.1, 4.2 and now with the 4.3RC.  I'm running windows 7 64 bit with a Core i5-2500k cpu running at 3.3GHz with 16gb or RAM.  I've tried uninstalling and starting afresh with LR and still getting the same issue.  I've tried using back up catalogues but still getting the same issue. I've had the image files on both internal and external hard drives to no change in behaviour.  There doesn't seem to be any pattern as to when it starts to hang I can be moving from one image to the next or moving a slider to adjust an image. Once i've closed LR i can reopen it straight away.  Sometimes it'll hang again immediately sometimes it'll not crash again for hours.  Any suggestions would be gratefully received as this is beginning to drive me mad!

This could be due to a corrupt Preference File. This file can go "funny" and is then responsible for all kinds of strange behavior of Lr. The remedy is replacing the Preference File.
BTW: Re-installing Lr ddoes not replace the Pref. File since it is designed to "survive" upgrades.

  • Imported photo's from computer, via Itunes, to iphone, now itunes can't find the folder with original pictures from Iphone or doesn't recognize it.

    Dear reader,
i just bought a new Iphone 5s, and decided to download Itunes and sync my Iphone with my laptop. Everyting went well until i decided to try out some things and i imported pictures via Itunes from laptop to Iphone. this is how i did it: Itunes - iphone - pictures - pictures synchronized from 'option choose map' - I chose another map - after, i 'ticked' box 'all maps'. Then i hit the button 'synchronize'. I forgot to look how the orignal map was called and this was the one Itunes syncronised autmatically with, that one also contaned all the original pictures on my Iphone. So, after putting some new photo's on my Iphone, i wanted to change the settings back to normal so my Itunes and Iphone could sync iphone pictures again. But I can't find the old map back or Itunes doesn't recognize the map. I already tried to use the map 'Ipod Photo Cache' but it shows only empty folders. I also tried computer - iphone - Internal storage or DCIM or 860OKMZO; No idea what that means but i thought that the last two folders can contain pictures. However, i get an error if select these ones a map in Itunes. How do I get back to the old settings again?
I hope I described the problem well; English is not my native language so i'm sure this might contain grammar mistakes.
A big 'thank you' for helping me in advance!

When i connected the iphone to my laptop, i found the location of the pictures on the iphone; the a map called  '860OKMZO' (i've mentioned this map earlier, this folder is located inside the folder DCIM). But if i try to open it with Itunes, this error comes up: 'foldername is invalid'. I figured that Itunes could have saved the synchronised pictures in another map somewhere else but i've found nothing...

  • Replace a clip or frame with other picture or clip and keep the soundtrack

How do you replace a clip or part of a clip by another clip or still and keep the sound from the original clip in iMovie '08?

How do you replace a clip or part of a clip by another clip or still and keep the sound from the original clip in iMovie '08?
Replace the first clip with the second and then extract the audio from the first clip (Cpmmand-Shift drag) and pin it to the second clip.

  • HELP! Folder with blinking pictures!

I started up my mac mini the other day and it has a gray screen with nothing but a little folder in the middle. In the folder there is a blinking picture that is a question mark and the mac face. It blinks like that and does nothing else. Any suggestions?!?

    Two things:
    1) I was wondering if it would be possible to start it up in safe mode without a repair disc. If not, could I use a repair disc that is for a newer version of mac?
    2) I bought a hard drive so that I free up some space on my computer, can I move files onto my new hard drive while the computer is in safe mode?
    Thanks!

  • If I delete my iphoto trash, will a folder with those pictures be okay on my desktop?

So i have a folder on my desktop on my macbook pro that has pictures in it. They are also in my iphoto trash and i know that the only way to empty my trash is to empty the entire iphoto trash. I was just wondering if I want to keep those photos in the file on my desktop but not in the trash, can I delete the trash and they will still be in the folder? let me know thanks!

iPhoot will not delete any photos it does not manage. If those images are in a folder on your desktop then deleting from iPhoto will not affect them in any way.

  • Lightroom Catalog Questions:

Hey guys, a few quick LR questions...
    1. Can a Lightroom catalog see folder structure? (If for example, I asked it to reference files already on my hard drive, could I see the folder structure that existed, and navigate to it from within the program?)
    2. Would those files remain accessible via Finder?
    3. If I ADDED a photo to the folder via the finder, could I update the catalog so Lightroom knew it was there?
    4. If I Moved/Deleted a photo from a folder, could I make Lightroom update the catalog with the new info?
    5. If I added an extra FOLDER, could I make Lightroom see it? Would I need to add it via Lightroom, or the Finder?
    Thanks!

    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. Yes
    4. Yes
    5. Yes, you have to add it in your operating system first, and then add it to LR
Having said all that, I point out that Lightroom is  NOT a file browser. It only knows about photos (and the folders that contain them) that have been imported into LR, and so you have to alert Lightroom properly of any changes that are made outside of Lightroom.

  • Sharing Lightroom catalog/database between Mac an PC

I have Photoshop Lightroom 2.4 for Windows. All my photos and Ligthroom catalog/database are located on a networked external drive. I am thinking about getting Lightroom for my new MacBook Pro, however I need to know first if I can access and modify Lightroom catalog/database located on that drive from both Mac and PC.
In other words, say, I am working in Lightroom on PC, adding and editing pictures one day. Then the next day I want to continue the work from my Mac. Can this be done? Do both operating systems use the same Lightroom catalog/database format?
    Cheers,
    RJ Czajkowski

    John,
    Thank you for your reply.
When I said networked drive, I meant a 1TB WD MyBook external drive, formatted to FAT32 and attached through a USB hub to 1TB Time Capsule. It is accessible from both my desktop PC (through Ethernet cable) and from my MacBook Pro (through Wi-Fi). All Lightroom data (catalog, previews, etc.) and all photos are on that drive.
Since both systems can access this drive, I assume this arrangement should work with what I want to do.
    Cheers,
    RJ Czajkowski

  • Need help joining one master folder to multiple 1:n detail folders

I'm trying to query a master folder with two detail folders. Both master-detail joins are 1:N.
Discoverer keeps giving me results with duplicate records when i try to do this, which is a fan trap I think?
How can I get around this? I need all 3 tables to be joined.

i need to do left outer joins from the master to both detail tables and combine the results.
The query I basically tried was:
    select m.summaryText, m.dateFiled, d1.extraComments, d2.location
    from reports m
left outer join comments d1 on m.id=d1.id
left outer join extraData d2 on m.id=d2.id
This still gave me duplicate records in the results. How can you join all three and merge them without duplicates?
    Thanks for trying to help...

Can someone help me out with a solution for this?
    Thanks, Adam

What if I'm one of those disorganized folks who made the mistake of having the same images in multiple catalogs, some with and some without edits? How would I fix that mess?
