Accidentally wiped my whole drive.

Hey guys.
As per title i wanted to install ubuntu on seprate partition but accidentally chosen "use whole drive" in ubuntu installer and it wiped the whole drive with the restore partition:( now the problem is i cant for the life of me get it back and run Mac OS X Yosemite.i've tried with my old mountain lion install DVD but it just hangs, tried booting and pressing N to get to netboot but the globe flashes few times and then disappears, and tried to make bootable usb drive but noone i know has a mac so i'm trying to do this on old windows pc thru tranmac app and it wont boot either.
is there any help for me or should i just cut my hands off to not mess with it again?
any suggetions i would be very greatful
thanks for any help
P.

There is no such thing as a Mountain Lion install DVD, so if you have one it is bogus!
Boot from the Recovery Partition on your iMac and then select Restore From Time Machine backup. If you do not have a Time Machine backup or have not created another type of backup then all of your data, apps, settings etc are gone. If you have another type of backup then while in the Recovery Partition install OS X and once it is running the restore from that backup following the   developers instructions.

  • Help! I've accidentally wiped my hard driv

Yes, it's the horror story... my Zen Touch 20gb wasn't scrolling properly and when I attempted to do a Clean Up via the Recovery Mode it'sjumped to Format All and the rest is history... Does anyone know of?any way I can try and recover the 300 albums I had on my player??Any help would be gratefully appreciated as?I am absolutely?devastated and can't find anywhere on the web?with an answer...

    Flanders76,
Were these local bands? or CD's at home? I ask because these companies charge a premium for their services. Example, http://www.dataleach.com/data-recove...a-recovery.php (Link is primarily iPod, but they list other MP3 players are serviced as well). $99 service fee just to evaluate your MP3 player. That $99 could replace /3 of your collection from a download store if they are popular bands.
Another option could be the MTP firmware update and using a subscription service. That same $99 would get you a year and a half of Yahoo Unlimited. Enough time to find new local artists or re-collect your original tracks.

I had my computer wiped and they accidentally wiped my itunes! I have a iPod touch gen 3 but i cant now download or put more music on, without the whole thing being wiped, and I have spent a lot of money on songs and apps! Does anyone have an ideas about what I could do, to prevent all my things deleting, because I won't be spending more money on apps that I have already purchased once!!
    Thank you,

    1) ensure iTunes is authorized for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.
above works for purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • Accidentally wiped out windows while installing Ubuntu.

Recently I bought a laptop at Best Buy (Lenovo Ideapad N586) and used a upgrade offer to upgrade to Windows 8. Today I installed Ubuntu and intended to dual boot but I screwed up and accidentally wiped the drive during the install. The laptop did not come with any windows disks. Will I have to buy WIndows to reinstall it?
    Thanks!

Thanks, but that did not work. When I erased the Hard Drive it must have wiped the recovery partition also, When I press that button, it just boots into Ubuntu.
    Hi
As the button is not working and you erased the whole hard drive, then you cannot anyhow revert to the windows 7 without the windows disk. However it is neccessary that you will have to buy disks. As you have ubuntu, you could use it to download windows 7 official iso from my digital life forums and use the product key that is found below your laptop. Link for iso is below
    http://www.mydigitallife.info/download-windows-7-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit-direct-download-link...
You could either burn a disk of the iso or make a bootable disk/pen drive from it.
Use Windows 7 USB/DVD Download tool to make a dvd/usb of iso. After installing windows then install all the drivers for windows 7, Download below

  • Accidentally wiped wrong disc during backup, can data be recovered?

I was doing a backup prior to bringing in my MacBook Pro and accidentally wiped the wrong external hard drive.  Disk tools say it can't be repaired or verified.  Is there any way to recover the data?

Stellar Phoenix Macintosh -- Mac data-recovery software -- recovers data from damaged, deleted, or corrupted volumes, and even from initialized disks. An exhaustive scan of the drive is performed to locate lost partitions. All found data in the lost partition is then presented in a tree structure so that you can copy your lost files to a working volume.

I just accidentally wiped out my entire music library.  I sent everything to recycling bin and then immediately hit restore all items as I knew what I had just done.  Now I can find where those files went.  Is there anyway Apple can just send me my purchased songs again?

Your purchased music is availble for download again at no cost.  If you have iTunes match service, you can download your matched music.

  • Do I need to deauthorize a computer if I have wiped the hard drive clean before I sell it?

I am going to sell my computer. I forgot to deauthorize it in itunes. I have already wiped my hard drive clean. Do I need to still deauthorize this computer and how can it be done?

Once the drive has been wiped, the only way to deauthorize is to Deauthorize All from any computer with iTunes installed.
If the intent was to deauthorize the comptuer, that needed to be done prior to wiping the computer.

A PowerBook G4 can't run Snow Leopard OS 10.6, however, it can run Leopard OS 10.5. But you must use a retail (black) Leopard install DVD.
What does the selling of your MacBook have to do with installing Leopard on your PowerBook?

  • I accidentally made my hard drive an image of Mac OS X 10.6.3

I accidentally made my hard drive an image of Mac OS X 10.6.3, and I cant erase the hard drive anymore. Please tell me there is a way to be able to erase the image on the hard drive and put it back to the original settings?

    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
You will have to restore your deleted files from a backup. If you don't have a backup, then they are lost.

  • Wiping the hard drive

    Hi
After windows failed and recovery discs did not work, failed on the second disc. If i wiped the hard drive using active killdisc and then used recovery discs (made at time of purchace) what are the chances of if working or do we buy HP recovery discs.
    Dv7-1050ea
    Windows Vista 32 bit
nothing changed and working ok before windows failed
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
If your recovery Discs don't work at the moment, there are no downsides as such, it literally just writes zeros to the entire HDD and this can resolve problems with Recovery Discs not working on drives that have been partially wiped - as I mentioned before, it's important to select the (80h) option, then press f10 to wipe all existing partitions before trying your recovery discs again.
There is a similar thread to yours that you may want to read Here.
If you want to try this, you can download and install Killdisk on the link below.
    http://software.lsoft.net/KillDiskSuiteFree-Setup.exe
Go to the Kill Disk application you have installed in All Programs, open the main folder, then select Bootable Disk creators and from that select Bootable DOS CD Creator which will burn the bootable ISO to a blank CD.
Do not worry about any warnings as your Recovery DVDs will reformat the HDD.

    DP-K

You don't need to reinstall Leopard.
You can reinstall Safari from here >  Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard

  • Searching whole drive in finder?

Since I've installed Leopard, if I search for a file in finder, it doesn't seem to find it, or isn't searching the whole drive.
For example, I can type in 'Caches' and it won't find anything. Yet if I go manually to the root of the HD, the directory's right there in the Library dir. What's going on?

You need to use the specific searching new feature in Leopard to search all files - in this case the system files. In Leopard these no longer show up in Spotlight.
Have a read through my posting here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5733297#5733297
You should have no problem finding all system files.
