Accidentaly muted Ovi Maps on E52

I have by accident muted all the sound output of Ovi Maps on E52 regardless of active profile. I have no idea how I did that, and I can't get rid of the stroked-thru speaker icon on the top right corner of the map display. I have thoroughly searched through all available options including navigation simulations (both pedestrian and vehicle), but no success. When in car navigation mode, the "6" key is completely dead, no feedback, volume keys on the right side are no help either.
What now?

Have you tried the volume switch on the side of the phone with Map navigation active?

OVI map problem with E52

Hi,
Iv been using E52 for the past 11 months and loved the way OVI maps worked but about 2 months back i had some serious problem related to keypad and since the customer care couldn't fix it they replaced it with a new E52. I am not able to use OVI Maps properly on this new E52 meaning my current location is being shown and also in the search option I am able to search for places but when I am selecting the location and opting for drive to or walk to option then the waiting for GPS option keeps me waiting forever. With my previous E52 this problem never exsisted and the route map was created immidiately. I dont mind using the map service over the GPRS instead of GPS. I have updated the firmware and also installed the latest nokia OVI map software, updated the maps but still facing the problem.
Please Advise.

Welcome to the forum!
I am assuming that you will have the same functions as on my E72 a similar S60 3rd FP2 device.
Suggest that you go to Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settings > General > scroll down list to "Positioning" > Positioning methods - temporarily disable ALL except Integrated GPS, go outside away from tall buildings if feasible, open OVI Maps application and wait 20 -30 minutes necessary for it to establish very first positional lock.

Ovi Maps, E52

Hi,
Last friday i was updated soft to 051.18 in my Nokia E52,
now when i turn on Ovi Maps to check my location,
i can see the map, and on the top of the display is information
"searching for location".
In navigation mode, when i set an destination place,
and choose "drive to" there is an information "Waiting for GPS".
Before soft update everything was OK.
Someone can help me?

Check the positioning method
Menu> Applications > GPS data and Options > Positioning settings >
Positioning methods> Assisted GPS > Options > Enable
If you use only Integrated GPS then getting the GPS to work you should go to an area open to sky.. The GPS lock may anything between 5 and 25 minutes depending upon the surroundings and weather..With A-GPS you may get that working much quicker..
Most probably, after the updates the settings have reverted to only Integrated GPS..
But keep in mind that using A-GPs may cost you a little as it uses the Network connection..

E52 internal GPS fix problem only with OVI Maps

Hi all,
I read many many E52 phones suffer Internal GPS fix problems.
I don't beleve this is an hardware problem, but only a software bug.
My experiments say this:
1) Start phone, start Ovi Maps -> No lock at all. (only 1 blinking line in bottom left corner)
2) Start phone, start McGuider (Sygic) navigator -> E52 locks quite immedeately. (in the same place!!)
3) After GPS is locked, start Ovi Maps again. Now also Maps works great!
4) Also the gps built-in application under Menu->Applications->GPS->GPS Data has the same behaviour as Ovi Maps.
Anyone can try and report this or similar experience?

Yes, you have to pay, but the connection takes about 20sec. About Sygic you're right I noticed that too. It locks pretty fast.

E52 and Ovi maps 3.04 long gps waiting time

Hello
After upgrading to newest 3.04 I noticed that internal gps needs much more time to find satellites.
I have checked "internal gps" method only. After downgrading to 3.03 it works much faster

I think that you will find that your 5230 has OVI Maps v3.03_10wk10_b02 pre-installed in device firmware, so that if you remove v3.04_2010wk32_b03 you will revert to previous version.
It has been commented that upon 5230 v3.03 seemed to lock on to position faster and has satellite reception icon which is missing from v3.04 onwards. One of the main benefits of v3.04 was the additional positioning method WiFi/Network introduced which can have quite marked results especially upon devices WLAN equipped which unfortunately your 5230 is not.
OVI Maps v3.06 which utilises a newer set of maps is probably quite near to general release and for some users in certain regions this maybe quite beneficial.

Update: The original San Francisco Chronicle report has been pulled but Google cache caught a bit more saying that Nokia's navigation service is "capable of operating completely offline" unlike Google Navigation which requires data connectivity.

Update 3: And it's official. Starting today, Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is free across the globe. OVI Maps - Check In

After getting an Update Maps text the other day I installed the new OVI Maps.
When I try to use the CHECK IN function I keep getting the message "There are currently network problems. Please try again later" after clicking Update my position.
Anyone any idea as to why this is happening?

I've got exactly the same problem on my E52.
After installing the latest version of software for my phone - 052.003.283.01 - and the latest Ovi Maps - 3.04 - Ovi Maps don't check in - don't work in online mode. All my settings are ok, other aplications can use internet connections - but Ovi Maps appear to be permanently in offline mode (even that "online" mode is set).
Everytime I try to use internet connection in Ovi Maps, I get the same message - though in Polish

Connection to the Ovi Maps server times out

Hi,
I've been having a lot of problems downloading individual country maps using the Ovi Suite. Occasionally it works, but 95% of the time, the download seems to start ("Preparing") but after a few minutes, I get the following error message:
"Connection timeout
The connection to the Ovi Maps server timed out.
Try again."
System: Windows 7, Nokia Ovi Suite 2.2.0.241. My internet connection is fine.
Phone: E52, Ovi Maps v. 3.03
Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi Schorly,
You are right that when you try for maps update, the OVi Suite application connects to the maps server thru' you PC internet connection if you have already connected your PC to the internet.
There is no settings needs to be configured in OVi suite if you have your PC connected to internet already excluding the proxy user name and password entry (applies only if you need to authenticate yourself to the proxy server, leave it blank if not needed) under OViSuite -> Tools -> Options -> General
In the OVi Suite application login to your OVi account on the right hand side top of the window to make sure that your OVi suite application connects thru' your internet connection.
In case if you still have the issue of connecting to the maps server, you may have to re-try later as the server might get timed out due to overload

The question is above basically. I'm simply fed up of having to waste 10mb space in my ROFS2 just overwrite old Ovi Maps in ROFS1 It should take less then an hoyr to add so why hasn't this been done, especially when Ovi Maps 3.04(165) left beta almost a month before V30.0.009 was released *sigh* This wouldn't happen with Android

I had exactly the same problem with my 5230 but following the instructions in that thread it dowloaded no problem.

South Africa maps for E52

Unlike the 6110 Navigator, which can search for and find every street and place for the entire country, The E52 with South Africa Ovi Map search facility can find only items of interest (e.g. a few major airports, a few major cities, and bizarre things like B&Bs and some hospitals.) Otherwise search for a moderately small town, or a street by name - even in a major centre - and no matches will be found. It would appear that if a street is within about 5km of current position it will be found. If it is further away, it won't be found. If you search by moving the cursor over the map, you will find the street you are looking for labelled with the correct name, but you cannot search for and find it using either a partial or full match. This makes the GPS mapping almost useless, as you only really need it when you don't know where you are going. Interestingly, when the search fails, it reports 'cannot find offline'. I tried going online to see if that made a difference. Now, the response to searches is huge, but most of the matches are in the continental USA. Still none for the map in question , i.e. South Africa. I've looked for any setting that might be incorrectly set, but there are none. Until this can be sorted out, I have reverted to the 6110 which is nothing short of superb in comparison. Very disappointed with this glaring bug in the E52

Problem install ovi store and ovi maps?

my phone nokia C7 can not turn on, then I use a three finger salute to hard reset, and my phone can turn on again, but social networking application, ovi store and ovi maps are lost, I tried installing again, but always "unable to install", while applications else could, what happened? what should I do? I want to install it again.

Unfortunately that is one of the outstanding issues with the current firmware in the N8, E7 and C7. The hard reset does not reinstall Qt which is required for the apps you mentions. See this.

Although it is possible to reinstall Qt, the process is highly complicated and should only be atempted by expert users. My suggestion would be to either get your phone reflashed at your local Nokia Care Point or to wait for the next firmware up[date which will hopefully include a fix for this.

Ovi Maps does not launch anymore on my 5800 Xpress...

I have the latest ovi maps for my nokia 5800 (3.06, and also the latest firmware of the 5800), and everything was working fine until yesterday when I click the Map icon, the application is not launching... I did not install anything new, it just does not want to launch the application (no error message, just like i did not press the icon). I had the same issue couple of weeks ago when suddenly the ovi maps stopped working (i had to reset my phone and reinstall everything), and today it's the same all over again...
Do you have any idea how to fix this? (i have around 40Mo left in my phone memory, so there should not be any memory problem i guess....)

Presumably you have Ovi Maps v3.06 (688) installed http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/ ovi_maps_installer_3.06_11wk23_b05_s60_5...
Don't know whether you restored from a backup after resetting device and have re-introduced a problem.
Perhaps try removing E:\Cities + .qf fle from 5800 and store safely on PC desktop, as empty folder structure re-created when you next open Ovi Maps application.
