That is not how the autosave feature works. Autosave helps in situations where program crashes/freezes or power goes out (basically, in situations where user have no control over the system). Closing the file without saving is not considered as unexpected interruption; it is intentional for most of the users.

If the Mac's firmware was updated, you can try this Internet Recovery:
Hold down Command + Option + R during restart or bootup; hold until you see a spinning globe (takes up to 10 minutes). Once in the Utilities window, use Disk utility to wipe the drive, then return to the window and choose to reinstall OS X. If that works, the OS will be installed without being tied to an Apple ID.
FWIW, if the firmware was updated, you will not be able to use the Snow leopard disk to install - I just did several tests and it does not work. You can, however, possibly install the SL onto an external drive and then clone it to the internal or (if you have a clone), boot from that and clone it back - I just tested that as well.
If the firmware was not updated, then you can use the SL install disk. -

Whenever I send a file to my Xerox C75 from my Mac (Yosemite), the file goes to the printer okay, then InDesign crashes.

I am about to try a clean install of OS 10.9.3, and I am not the least bit happy about it. Adobe CC is my main set of go-to applications for my work, and those are the only applications that give me ANY problems with printing. I have forked out real money on different versions since I started using Adobe in the late 1990's, and my troubles seem to increase with every new release. -

When I have edited the PDF with acrobat 9 standard it automatically changes the PDF version to 1.6.

Conversion from CS3 to CS4 - closing files without saving
One more issue...
I'm making temporary changes to a book and a document so I want to close the documents without saving. This is what I'm currently using.
myBook.close(SaveOptions.NO);
myDocument.close(SaveOptions.NO);
What seems to be happening is that the file is saved anyway. No Save As window opens. I've looked in the Object Model and it looks like CS4 uses the same syntax as for CS3. Any suggestions?
BIt looks like you're trying to add an existing CS3 document to a new CS4 book. InDesign wants to save the CS3 document in CS4 and so gives you the Save As dialog. You can either go through all the existing CS3 documents you'll be adding and save them out from CS4, or add a few lines to the script that will do it. (Change the variable name I used if it's used somewhere else in your script.)

Hi there.
I have an odd issue where when I open a file and make changes to it, I can't close the file by clicking the 'x' button, can't select "file close", can't "command W" or even quit or force quit photoshop until I have saved the file. It's very frustrating as I have had to make a "PSD TRASH" folder on my desktop specifically for saving random working files, which I clear out at the end of the day.
Has anyone else had this issue? I have compared my preferences to colleagues without this issue and they are set the same. I have also re-installed Photoshop CC 2014 on my machine with no success.
Any advice would be appreciated!

How can I overwrite PDF files without saving in a new location?
Hi,
I have recently purchased Acrobat X.
Everytime I make an edit to a pdf file, I cannot overwrite the old version. I keep getting an error message saying that another user has the document open, and am forced to save with a new name or in a new location.
Can anyone help me to fix this? I deal with 100s of PDF files in a day and re-saving in a different location or renaming with every change is a real time-consuming hassle.

Sorry to hikack the thread....but I have the same issue.
Windows 7, saving to network drive. If I overwrite the pdf on the desktop it does so fine. However, not on the network drive. The user has full control permissions on the network drive. So at a loss as to why this is happening. It only happens with PDF files too (as have tried other file formats with no issues).
Don't think it is a Acrobat problem - this was happening on Acrobat X and now on Acrobat XI. But again shouldn't be a permissions issue either...??

I use Windows Vista and Firefox browser. Until recently I was able to use the Reader without first saving. I think I may have inadvertently clicked an auto-save option in a dialog window. That window no longer appears when I try to download.

Open Firefox
Windows: - click on 'Tools' manu > Options and Mac:- Click on 'Firefox' menu > Options
Click 'Applications' tab
from the list, find : Portable Document Format and select 'Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)'

When you open a file from an email, you get a dialog box Open or Save this file. I wanted to save a particular file, so I clicked Save. The problem is, I had already clicked on "do this every time for files like this" so now it won't give me the dialog box back for when I just want to open a file, not save it. Adobe won't give me the option to 'open' files without saving.
I was not able to open .pdf files at all and realised that Adobe Reader had somehow 'gone' from my laptop. I have reinstalled the latest version but if I want to 'open' an attachment in n email it will only give me the option to 'Save' the file. I don't want to Save every file. Can someone please advise me how to get back the option to just ' open' the file?

When I click an attachment to view it, the first option I am given is to 'save' the file, and then the next pop up message gives me the option to either 'open' or 'view file'. Can Best Buy back up my files without saving my computer?
Best Buy told me they have to remove my virus to save my computer. I asked them to back up my files of course there is a fee. Is there a way for them to back up my files on a CDR or DVR and not fix the virus. I don't care if they dump my computer and I get a new one. I just need my files.
Find a KNOPPIX or Ubunutu Linux LiveCD, and boot from that. Back up your files to an external hard drive using the LiveCD.
Then virus scan the external HD. DO IT FROM THE LiveCD! A LiveCD can't get infected by a virus (read-only media), and in addition 99%+ of Windows viruses can't infect a Linux distribution.
