Accidently interrupted update

I'm not sure this is the right forum section for my issue but I suspect it will involve an installation.
That's what I want to ask. Is reinstalling my OS the only option? I am unable to do anything other than boot from my installation CD. I did a repair disk and I have no problems.
Should I just go along with the "Archive and install" process? I've never done it before.
Thanks.

How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Firefox will not start after interrupted update to 5.0

    Lenovo x200 | Windows 7 32bit | Firefox 5.0
I was updating Firefox from version 3.6 (I think) to 5.0. Simultaneously I had done a update on Windows that seemed to have stopped. The update of Firefox had also come to a stop. As I remember it the installation was complete, and I was attempting to start the program, when Firefox was checking compatibility with installed plug-ins and so forth.
The Windows updates installed fine afterwards but after several reinstalls of Firefox, I still can't seem to get it to start.
There is no error message or notification at all when trying to start Firefox.
One processes is created, staying steady at 50% CPU and 26 404 K memory.
If i try to open another instance of Firefox I get a process that takes 0% CPU and about 1 844 K memory.
    Summary:
Firefox fails to start after interrupted update to 5.0 from 3.6.
    There is no error message.
Firefox never starts (and the process never shuts down), just shows in the Task Manager under Processes steady at 50% CPU and about 26 000 K memory (I've seen it do this for at least 20 minutes, before terminating it).

Thanks kenton. But now pop-up says beta 5.
The ''real issue'' is what is going on. On one machine the update process works, but on my other machine it does not.
The machines are identical IBM T60s with Windows XP.
This is a real mystery, as well as being annoying.
A clue or suggestion any one?

Is there any way to stop an app from updating? I accidently hit "update all" and have an app i don't want updated.  Thanks

you can't reverse the process, once you accepted there is no other way, if you sync it to your itunes library in your computer it will automatically update the updated app as well.
What you can try though is delete the app from your iPad and try syncing it to your itunes library but if you set up iCloud it may update the app automatically

  • Interrupted update put phone in recovery mode.

An interrupted update to iOS 7.1.1 put phone in recovery mode.  The phone told me to connect to iTunes and when I did it only gave me the option of restoring the phone.  The problem is though, that the phone hadn't been backed up in awhile and not at all to the computer I had to connect it to.  So is there a way I can reboot without restoring the iPhone?

You can restore the iPhone from an iCloud backup or from an iTunes backup once you're back at your computer.
I know that doesn't help too much, but it is an option.

  • I have an ipod touch, not the 4th generation, I tried getting the latest update on i which was the 6ios and i accidently interrupted it and now it wont turn on and every time i reset it it just blinks random colors and lines and patterns?

Please help, Ive tried resetting my ipod and plugging it in to itunes and nothing is responding. The scrren is white then it turns to blue and all these diffrent patterns. I dont know what else to do???

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Interrupted update; how do I restore corrupted library?

My iPhoto update (to 9.6.1, I think) was interrupted due to a power surge. This seems to have left my iPhoto library (all 200+Gb of it) nonfunctional. I tried rebuilding my backup copy with iPhoto Library Manager but it says the album data file cannot be found. Googling around, I've found suggestions that all I can do is create a new library by importing all my pictures from the Masters Folder, which is pretty extreme. Is there any other alternative I have? I noticed that I have files called iPhotoLock.data and InterruptedUpgrade (when I examine package contents) and I do seem to have some files in Database; is there a way to rebuild that first?

Tried but no luck. Running across another thread, I tried deleting them and reopening in iphoto. But then I got stuck creating new thumbnails (got up to 32 Gb of ram before I killed the process). I had an older library from another six months earlier (I periodically copy the entire library to a hard drive that I store elsewhere in case of fire, which I mean to do more often than I actually do) and I was ultimately able to use that as a basis to then copy just six months of photos over. Better than nothing, but it still seems to me that it should be possible to recreate the xml file somehow.

  • Interrupted Updates

so if you interrupt a update on a Mac (power off), would that not cause issues where you would need to either reinstall or re-run those updates..?  or is that not true on the Macs..?

If you interrupt an update while it's being downloaded, nothing will happen. You can continue downloading the updates again.
If you interrupt an update while it's being installed, you may damage OS X depending on the update you are going to install. You should make a backup of your files before installing it in case the update doesn't finish correctly. If the update damages OS X, you will have to start in OS X Recovery holding Command and R keys while your iMac is starting and reinstall Mountain Lion

  • Deleted Adobe_Lightroom_x86.msi by accident - cannot update Lightroom

While cleaning out my boot disk recently, the .msi extension made me think that it was just unused installation files, so I deleted this file from the disk permanently.
Is there any way to get it back, or re-instate this file from sources?
Lightroom 4.2 starts, advises me of the 4.3 update available, but after downloading and starting the update installation, it ends with the error that "Adobe_Lightroom_x86.msi" could not be found.
I have tried looking for this file in the installation sources, but no luck so far.
Everything else works fine, but I will be stuck without updates unless I start from scratch... not a nice prospect, since I have almost 80k pictures and edits in my library.
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks!

You could try recovering the file from another computer.  You might also try running the Microsoft FixIt utility - http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall to try to remove the software.

  • Error 3004 after interrupted update

I recently tried to update my iPhone 4s to the latest software upgrade, but reset the phone (holding down the home and power button) because I thought it wasn't going well, and frankly, am an iDiot. The "connect to iTunes" symbol shows up when I turn the phone on. When I try to restore and update it, it keeps saying "the iPhone cannot be updated... unknown error (3004)." I have tried turning off the firewall, refreshing the DNS, updating Windows 8, updating iTunes, and putting the phone in DFU mode, all to no avail. Help!

How do I restart interrupted updates that the app store detects as Updated?

    Hello tjantonioiiimobile
I would delete the app then download the app again. The article below will give some further troubleshooting steps.

  • How to resume interrupted iOS app update?

When updating an App on my iPhone (or iPad), sometimes the update stalls: maybe the net connection drops, or something else.  When this happens, and I restart the App Store, the interrupted update just sits there, at the point it was when interrupted.  It doesn't continue, or restart.  How can I get it to restart without deleting the app and re-installing it? If I do that, I lose all associated files (I'm concerned here with Navigon Europe, and I don't want to have to download all of the maps again as I would have to if I deleted it and re-installed).

Reset your network settings on the iPhone. If that helps, then do the same for the iPad. (This can help whether Wi-Fi or cellular)
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings
Restart the device and try updating your apps.

  • I interrupted my iphone upgrade to ioS 6 and now my phone just keeps showing the apple. it wont restart or show up when I plug it into itunes!!!!

Help! i accidently interrupted my iphone upgrade to ioS 6 and now my phone wont turn on completely. it just keeps showing the apple. it also wont register with itunes...i have tried turning it off and restarting it multiple times but nothing is working. HELP!

hey man, i feel your pain... here's my story and i'm pretty sure this will work for you... on the 19th of september i went to upgrade ios 6 and paused it about 1/10 through... when i plugged my phone up at night the screen was at the normal lock screen.. when i woke up at 10:30 am i went to check my phone and the screen appeared as an apple logo with a progression bar about 6/10 full.. it didn't seem to be progressing any more, but i guess that was only because it was so slow trying to download over wifi because it had all night to finish downloading.. anyways i needed to check my texts and the time so i held down the lock button and the phone turned off during the download.. when i tried to turn it on the apple logo would appear like normal trying to boot up.. then it would fade away and cut off.. then seconds later try to turn on again, by itself, repeatedly for hours on september 20. i tried restarting it (holding lock and home button down 10-15 seconds) but the problem with that is that the phone was already trying to turn on itself so it never would restart correctly... (continued turning on and off by itself).. i went to verizon and they said my phone is screwed.. go to apple if you wanna pay.. i called apple support and a lady helped me out here's the solution that worked after hours of thinking my phone is totally screwed.. when the phone is dark and cut off.. press and hold the home button before you plugin your sync cable to your usb port.. (have itunes up and ready) continue holding the home button and plugin the sync cable.. still holding the button, wait for a message from itunes appear that says it recognizes your device in recovery mode.. press ok.. the screen on your iphone should be a snyc cable and and arrow pointing to an itunes symbol... from there it is pretty self explanatory.. you will need to restore and update your phone from there which should be an option after you press ok... it takes awhile.. your phone will then go through one, or maybe a few progression bars (it may vary, not sure).. while your itunes will be restoring software & firmware.. when everything is done on itunes and your phone.. your phone should boot right up!!! reply if you have any more questions.. i'm so glad i resolved my issue today.. good luck!
