According to nokia maps , half my city is on water

i'm using a 6110 navigator with the latest nokia maps for navigation around Alexandria, Egypt. according to nokia maps a great part of the city, although showing streets and names is on water. in other words the map design shows blue water underneath a great part of the city's costal line with streets and complete blocks of buildings shown to exist on water.
this disturbing visual problem exist in the newest egypt map "8.1 Mb". has anyone else noticed this???
Fear not those who argue but those who dodge

I sent my N97 (RM-507) off to the NokiaUSA care center a few weeks ago for the GPS antenna shielding fix.
This past week I updated to v20 firmware, did a hard reset and reinstalled all applications from scratch, including the Maps for the USA.
I'm running Nokia Maps 3.01 09wk30 b02
and Maps data version 0.1.22.103
Testing the GPS this morning....outside, no obstructions, clear blue sky....I get 5-9 green bars on the satellite fix, but my position keeps jumping around (including the altitude per Locations) and is 30-40 yards EAST of my actual position relative to the map background.
Using the Search function to locate my actual numeric address, the Maps application puts that about 30-40 yards WEST of the background indication based on the map background.
Thus the total map accuracy is 60-80 yards off EAST/WEST in terms of displayed position versus numerical address!!!
For comparison, I ran a test using Google Maps and allowed it to use the N97's GPS.  Not surprising, it located my position quickly and accurately within about 8-10 yards, though it did continuing moving a bit but never more than about 2-3 yards at a time.
I am running out of patience with Nokia.  The N97 has been out since July 2009 and their Maps software and GPS drivers are probably the worst that I've ever seen in terms of accuracy and stability.
I hear of others using Garmin software on their N97, but until I'm certain beyond a shadow-of-a-doubt that the N97's GPS hardware is stable, accurate and dependable I really don't want to spend the extra money for a 3rd party program and I definitely won't be spending any money on Nokia Map navigation license.

  • Nokia Maps - suggestions for improvement

Been using Nokia Maps Navigationon my E61i for a month now, previously I used Telenav on my E62.
The interface on Telenav is more intuitive / user friendly, Nokia Maps is confusing. I am getting used to it, but still.
Trip duration (lower right corner), at least that is what I assume it to be. It is off completely the entire trip. We use a TomTom Go910 for the family and it is off on its initial estimate but then it adjusts as you drive along. On a trip from Oklahoma City to Wichita Falls it estimated the trip to be 3.5 hours. Actual distance was only 165 miles, so a little bit over 2 hours. It its current design this feature is worthless. By the way Telenav has this figured out.
    Airport Codes:
Driving back to OKC, I realize that a keyword search on OKC (the official airport code for Oklahoma City) only results in tens of matches of businesses with OKC in the name. But no air port. If you want to be serious about business travel this needs to work. Same for car rental return locations at the airport.
After a few hours of use the E61i crashes and restarts itself.

The indicator at the bottom right of my Nokia Maps screen shows the remaining estimated journey time. This seems to me to be one of the most useful features. The only refinement I'd like to see is an option to toggle between this and an estimated arrival time.
With regard to search, there is a lot of scope for improvement here, given that this is the search that the software defaults to when you enter text directly without selecting an option. This should allow any kind of searching - i.e. post or zip code, place name etc. In the UK, the post code is the most useful type of search, but is not enabled via this inout - you have to go to address search to input a postcode. The app should have the intelligence to recognise the type of input and act accordingly.
Another much-needed improvement would be to improve the access to searching for the address from contacts - as this is a pretty obvious way for people using a smartphone to ssearch it should be there among the first level opetion - not buried as an option under address search.
Also, the options should be arranged with more consistent thought as to which will be most used, for example, under the "Landmarks" menu, Route From, Route To, and Navigate To, are in the midlle - requirig more keypresses than Delete Landmark, Edit Landmark, Show Details or Serach Nearby! Seems like a lapse in the quality control there doesn't there?
A great, and easy improvement (because the code is already there) would be to use the Voice-Independent name recognition capability of recent phones to select stored Landmarks and recent destinations - I'm surprised this feature isn't there already.

  • If download of Nokia Maps doesn't work...

...then you can try the following.
When I tried to download Nokia Maps from "nokia.mobi/maps" via "Web" with my E61i, once I clicked on "Accept Terms Service", the browser always took me back to the starting page with the red text "You must select your phone model". I tried this several times and it failed every time.
Solution: use the "Services" icon instead (which is the phone's WAP browser), and then the download should work.
Pretty weak of you Nokia to fail at this point...

  • Nokia Maps on E71 again - does not load a detailed...

    Hello All!
I've looked through previous discussions on Nokia Maps @ E71, however did not find a solution for my problem.
Noka Maps runs on my E71, however, it does not load a detailed maps. Sattelite images work perfectly. My area is well covered with the maps as my N95 loads maps perfectly.
I messed around with Nokia Maps Loader. I even deleted \\CITIES\diskcash.
Nokia Maps restors the directory when I raun it, fixes GPS, downloads about 850kb of data...and shows my city of about 3M population as a crossroads of two highways (in case I use the Maps Loader it even does not try to download and shows the same).
In the meantime, I made Garmin XT working fine on my E71. But I still would like to use Nokia Maps as a back-up when travelling. Thank you for help!!!
PS I have E71-1, 3 weeks old, with the latest firware. I even did not have to re-flash as it came updated.
PPS I wish I was a bit stronger to have in the other pocket N95 just for a back-up

From my experience from Navteq maps if your country is in the list non-routable maps you may get nothing nevertheless Navteq states you will get map but it cannot be used for navigation.
Navteq says ask Nokia, Nokia says ask Navteq.

  • [Nokia Maps] Unable to purchase navigation feature

On My E90, I tried several times to upgrade to "voice navigation" but failed. That was what I did as the followings:
    1. [Options] -> [Extra services] -> Add navigation
    2. [Accept] the terms and conditions
    3. [Purchase] "Navigation upgrade"
    4. The unusual part began :
4.1. Select region "Taiwan" then the application crashed and back to desktop
4.2. Select region "Taiwan/China/Hong Kong/Macau" then it shows "Please enter your personal license code, which you received at the time of purchase" and an input field labeled "CD" which you are able to key-in a license code in format "nnnn-nnnn-nnnn". Of course, I dunno what to do and stop here.
According to the official information -
Nokia Europe - Nokia Maps - Voice-guided Navigation
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4509359
There should be a screen w/ license-type selection then I will able to choose the payment method and finish the process. But unfortunately I just unable to see one. Anyone could help please?

This is strange as I usually find wifi to be the better connection to use. It is also free as opposed to paying network data charges on 3g. Anyway, the main thing is you got it to work.
Truly! I am glad it finally work properly too. I applied an fixed price package of my 3.5G network that provide unlimited packets transmission on a monthly subscription fee, that's why I just let my E90 stay on the mode instead of WiFi.
Anyway, I think the problem is not due to the connection method but the service/application itself. Before I could purchase the navigation feature of region "Taiwan", tried some other regions and one of it "triggered" the "Update" procedure. That is the first time I saw it happen which gimme a hint, so I go back to region "Taiwan" and it got an "Update" too. Finally, everything worked. Dunno if it is a tip but I think it might help if someone just meet same problem as me.

  • Nokia map - Ukraine

Hi, with Nokia map preloaded on my E90 I was able to use the ukranian map (kiev city) with a certain level of detail. Let's say, enough details to survive. Then I upgraded to the beta version and reloaded the map in the phone. Now, Ukraine, especially Kiev has only highway and I realized that is not navigable anymore....
Do you know the reason why? Will it change? Is it a bug?
How can I get the previous map?
    thanks

Many Thanks For Your Help Scoobyman.
    I am using a 2 Year Old Nokia N95.
I Recently Updated the Firmware,Updated the Maploader Software and put in a 4 GB Mem Card.
Then Downloaded most Maps of the World.
When arriving in Kiev,i could Not understand why the Navteq System would only show Main Roads.
I Downloaded the Old Maploader Vers 12,from this site.
I Have just put my Old 1 GB Mem card back in after Deleting Cities using a Card Reader.
Started the Maps up Online,10 Minutes,7 MB Data.
Just like we had to when first getting this Mobile in 2007.
I Re-installed the old Version of Maploader using Nokia pc suite to the Mem Card.
    Hey Presto

  • 6110 notes: Route 66 and Nokia Map (Smartogo) in a...

    Hi,
Just sharing some observations after trying out the two maps for navigation in a city.
    a) Responsiveness: Route66 is definitely more responsive in re-routing once you drive off the recommended route. It typically provide new directive immediately, whereas Nokia map will take a couple of seconds for recalculations.
    b) Quality of re-route: When a route is missed, Route66 seems to provide more 'human-like' new route. Whereas, Nokia Map seems to work on partial re-route, and try to find the "next possibility" with the objective to make a "U-turn" to get back to the previous calculated route. The difference is important in real life, since making U-turns in an un-familiar location can be dangerous, but more importantly, can dis-orientate most people who are not adept in navigation in the first place. So, Route66 seems to be smarter than 'smartogo' on this respect.
    c) User interface: Nokia Map (smartogo) seems to be lacked of the short-cut keys that Route66 already provice (such as key 5, 6 etc). Also, the satellite info page seems rudimental.
However, the screen layout of the Nokia Map seems more useful than Route66, but Route66 has more fancy graphics. So, it is clear that Route66 has been optimised for novice in navigation, making it as easy as possible.
    d) Voice navigation: Route66 seems to be straight-to-the-point, i.e. clear instruction. Nokia Map tends to be a bit more chatty and delayed. For example, quite frequently, it would say "next possibility", which is useless, except seems to project to me that it is not sure. Also, by the time it finished saying 'possibility', you already missed the turn out.
When one is on the road and decide to rely on the voice navigation, just tell me what to do at the right time, cut out the sweet talks.
    e) Landmark management. This one, Nokia Map is definitely one up.
Well, it seems that Route66 is the way to go at this point since it seems a more mature product. However, I think Nokia Map has many tricks up the sleeves, it seems, especially in terms of integration with other applications.
I still love google map for the satellite view, nothing can beat having a preview of the terrain of the route one selects. However, this is not for everybody, I admit.

I find Route66 also tends to keep trying to send me back to the route it initially calculated for far too long after I've diverted off - usually to avoid traffic jams.
The one feature I would really like on Route66 - and which I always assumed would be in any routing software - is a "find me another route that avoids this road" option. Can't understand why that one isn't available as the code that handles the real time traffic data could easily be adapted to do it.

  • N76 Nokia Maps ERROR - STILL not fixed

My N76 has been updated to the latest firmware, but the nokia map application available on the nokia site is not compatible. It says Update Error, and I don't know why. I've used it on my other phones (n5800 and N97), but it won't install on my N76.
There has already been a post about this, but no solution has been given. This is really an emergency.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers

One of the few issues with Acrobat 9 that is peeking above the radar is the C++ error when launching Acrobat 9. There are two things that seem to be resolving the issue. One is to uninstall, delete all Acrobat leftovers, and then reinstall. However the solution that seems to be fixing more cases is a new admin user. According to Scott Worthington several of his cases were caused by users not having the correct permissions. That is they were domain admins instead of local admins. The best way to create a new admin user in these cases is to use the "back door" approach of creating the new user thru Administrative Tools/Computer Management. In the Computer Management window right-click on Users under Local Users and Groups and from the context menu choose New User. Fill out the fields at the top of the window and then uncheck User must change password at next logon. After the new user is created right click on the new user name and choose Properties from the context menu. Go to the Member Of tab and click New then add Administrators to the list. Use the "Check Names" button to make sure the group name is correct. If it is correct it will become underlined. It needs to be capitalized and must have an "s" on the end. Click Apply and then OK.

  • How can I report a problem in Here/Nokia maps?

It used to be possible to report map errors from the Symbian Nokia Maps application. Please tell me there is some way for users of the Web / Windows Phone users to do the same.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are multiple errors in the HERE maps within one mile of my home in SE England: roads that no longer exist, mispelled street names, even an entire village moved three miles to the east of its true location!
Our village shop has been in place for ten years - yet it does not appear on HERE City Lens and other outlets have either closed down or are shown in the wrong place.
There is no easy feedback mechanism to report these errors to Nokia. The Navteq Map Reporter site requires a log-in but it has no option to create an account. I want to be able to identify and report mistakes quickly on my Lumia 920, not spend time trying to work out how to prevent drivers getting stuck halfway up a blocked farm track called "Old London Road" - there's a clue in the name!
I bought the 920 because I always thought Navteq the best of the mapping bunch. Love the phone but I have serious doubts about its ability to get me to any destination. I should add that Google maps and the O/S Bing maps are correct - but guess what? The Navteq map on Bing also places the village in completely the wrong place!

  • Nokia Maps - pre-launch version bug

    Hello,
I've just installed the latest version and it seems that it doesn't show properly street and city names with unicode characters - this worked well in beta version. Now map data looks very weird e.g. in Poland, because there are no Polish letters at all (instead there're some weird chars). The same problem exists in 'search' and others parts of the application.
    Tested on N93, v20.0.058
    BR,
    Jack

I found another bug - when you search for cash mashines nearby, application shows doubled entries in results list (e.g. machineA, machineA, machineB, machineB, C, D, D, E...).
Everything was tested on N93 with latest Polish maps (downloaded by Nokia Map Loader 1.1).
    BR,
    Jack
    P.S.
I'm slowly becoming main tester of this application

  • Nokia Maps is a giant step backwards

My relevant background - I live in Los Angeles, owned an HTC HD7S for more than a year and just recently got a Lumia 920. I like everything about my new 920 except vibration noise, and this horrid Nokia Maps app which is forced on us...
    Problems with Nokia Maps:
Lack of integration with the rest of the operating system.
Nokia maps is an island to itself. I click an address from a people hub contact, it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address from a Bing search which has a dedicated hardware button, and it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address in an email, you guessed it, it opens Windows Phone maps.
Searching in Nokia Maps has terrible results
I tried 3 searches today during the course of my day using Nokia Maps. Si Laa is a Thai restaurant I wanted to try a few miles from my house with an obviously unique name. The results I get are for Joyce Cafe, something in Germany and Slovenia. Next I try UPS in hopes it will find the company owned UPS Customer Center a quarter mile from my house. It doesn't find it at all, but does find alot of ups stores that are further away. Nokia Maps choked on another restaurant in Beverly Hills I tried to find. My wife's iPhone 4s had no problems with any of these.
Local surface street traffic info is missing
On the Lumia 920, I don't get any surface street traffic info. I do see traffic info for highways and freeways. I used to get local surface street traffic on my old HD7S Windows Map. Windows Phone Maps shows some sporadic street traffic data but is not quite right either. I called Nokia about it, the level 1 techie tells me I'm supposed to have local street traffic but has no further explanation and has escalated to level 2...
Nokia removed the Windows Phone Maps.
As shown in the first point above, Windows maps is still clearly on the phone, but Nokia removed the tile for it from the app list. There doesn't seem to be a way to directly open Windows maps. This would be fine except that Nokia maps, which is supposed to be the replacement, is worse than Windows Phone maps in so many ways.
There isn't a single reason to use Nokia Maps over Windows Phone Maps.
The only reason I use it is because Nokia has seen fit to make Windows Phone Maps hard to start by removing it from the apps list.
Nokia should leave both map apps available and in the apps list.
If Nokia Maps is the superior product, people will use it. Right now I'd say Windows Phone maps is superior in every way and that's a shame for Nokia who is supposed to be a mapping leader...

I can select a contacts address, see it on the map, then request directions and then swith to drive each step with one tap of an option or icon

  • N73 & Nokia Map

I have installed Nokia Map on my N73. Also downloaded Map of India from Map Loader.I am using Altina GPS receiver GBT - 709. I have following few questions, can anybody help me !
    1) When I travel and watch the road (india) I find that the GPS position is offset by about 200 meters but by and large it follows the road (but not on road) What could be the reason ? I had compared the coordinates of a specific location by using one GARMIN device and Lon / Lat are correct. Yhis implies that the problem is with map base system.
    2) where do I get a navigation map of Indian city say "PUNE".
    3) I have also installed GARMIN MOBILE XT (2) but it do not detect my Altina GPS receiver it asks for GARMIN GPS receiver. Is there any method by which I can use Altina (NIMA) GPS receiver with GARMIN ?

    1. Could be fault of maps precision or from the antenna!
    2. Maps use Navigon and Teleatlas, so if is not there, maybe does not exist...
    3. I think not

  • N70-Nokia Maps crashes simulating a not trivial tr...

    Hi everybody,
I have a N70 with Nokia Maps 1.0 and I have the following issue: when I try to calculate the path from one place to another one, if this second place is quite far or is inside a big town (e.g. a trip of 400 km or from the south of a big city to the north, going through downtown), well, Nokia Maps crashes. Does anybody else with N70 have the same problem? If the path is not so long (20 km) or not so tricky (few instructions) everything is ok. Any suggestion to understand why this occurs and how to solve it? Thanks.

The N70 is one of the early n-series models, its phone memory is quite small (a little over 20Mb if I remember correctly), so it could be just an issue that the phone doesn't have enough processing power.
You could try making sure that all other apps are closed whilst you are using Maps, and also remove any installed stuff from the phone memory that you don't need (for example, if you have a memory card, you could move music and images to that to free up processing space in the phone memory).
