Account corruption?

I apologize if this isn't the correct forum for this problem - Recently upgraded to CS5 (photoshop) Tried using photomerge and image processor - error window came up indicating (window does not have a constructor) I posted this message to NAPP forum and Adobe Forum and every one seems to think it's a programming error.
I contacted Adobe tech (India) and after several tests he seems to think there is corruption in my main administrator account. WE set up a (test) account opened CS5 and photomerge and image processor both worked fine. Back to my main administrator account, and it DOES NOT WORK. Adobe tech says it's an Apple problem.
I am using latest version of SL and in CS4 I have no problems, and CS5 no other problems except using photomerge and image processor.
I reinstalled CS5 to no avail. I ran disk utility from SL startup disk, no change.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to fix the (possible) corruption in my administrator account. so it works with CS5?
Kenny

Update: I actually spoke with a Nik filter tech about this problem, because after I had her put Nik filters in the right places, the "Window does not have a constructor" error came back, and reinstalling the SL update did not work this time. She said they have seen others with similar issues using SL. If I use a different administrator account, everything works fine.
So, this appears to be a SN problem. Hope they are working on an update!

  • User Account corrupted by Snow Leopard install?

I installed Snow Leopard on my 24-inch iMac last evening from a Family Pack DVD.
Within three minutes of starting the install, my computer locked up. Waited about an hour to make sure it was really crashed vs. working slow. Finally admitted defeat and restarted the computer. At that time, the screen told me it found an install in progress -- did I want to recover it? My setting etc. would not be affected. I said yes.
The install completed seemingly like a dream.
However, the computer now takes an average of three minutes to complete any task. And by "complete any task" I mean even getting a pulldown menu to appear. It's as if the computer freezes up for three minutes, then unfreezes for five seconds, then freezes again.
What I have tried: I saw a tip somewhere that I should determine whether the whole system/computer is affected or only a specific user account. My computer has only one user account -- mine -- with all the admin privileges, etc. I was able to log on as a guest and everything seems to work beautifully and quickly. Of course, I can't access any of my files or settings from the guest account.
So, it APPEARS that my user account is corrupted somehow. It's hard to imagine trying to work on that from inside the account itself, since it operates in extreme slow motion and is de facto frozen.
What should I do? Do I create a new user account that is admin and delete the old? How do I access my files, settings, etc.?
I don't THINK I need to uninstall Snow Leopard or reinstall it because the guest account seems completely fine.
One other bit of info that may help a knowledgeable person puzzle through this with me: During the Snow Leopard installation, it gave me some pop-up questions concerning duplicate files -- maybe 30 or so -- that were all photos inside iPhoto. (I knew I had a couple dozen photos that I had inadvertently put on the computer twice, but they have resided there for a long time without creating problems. It asked me if I wanted to keep the duplicates or replace them with the originals, and I said "replace" -- it asked me that for each photo. Once the install was finished, there was a stack of photo icons on my desktop screen, piled on top of each other like a deck of cards -- they are the duplicate photos. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem or not. Again, it's pretty much impossible to work inside that user account at this point so I'm not sure that's relevant.
Anyway, I am not a technical person and would sure appreciate advice.
By the way, because of these problems, I have not tried to install my family pack upgrade on my other iMac -- it is running "old" Leopard and I think I'll definitely leave it as is. Would you folks agree that's wise at this stage?
    Thanks again.

R C-R, thanks, I did start up in safe mode and went back into my old user account, the one that is giving me all the trouble. It was very slightly faster. I was able to start up a couple programs and when inside those programs the computer seemed to run pretty fast. However, anything on the desktop or the dock still operates in the frozen-for-three-minutes-OK-for-five-seconds-frozen-for-three-minutes pattern.
In any case, HOLY COW I THINK I FOUND A PROBLEM. Remember that stack of photo icons I told you got placed on my desktop after Snow Leopard installation? I thought it was perhaps 30 photos ... wrong! It is a card stack of all 2,900 photos I have on my computer. (I was able to see this by going into the hard drive icon then drilling down on the desktop, and there was just an endless ocean of photo files on display there.) I presume this is what is crippling my desktop/finder function?
yes, definitely. as I said, having a lot of pics on the desktop will make finder keel over because it has to render all of them. you should try moving them to a separate folder.
log into your account, start terminal and run the following command 9copy and paste please)
    mkdir ~/pics; mv ~/desktop/* ~/pics
wait for it to finish. it will move everything from your desktop folder to the folder pics at the top level of your home directory. nothing will be deleted by this so if something is really missing from iphoto you should be able to recover it later.
Presuming this is THE problem, what do I do? I can't tell whether I should try to delete all of those photos off of the desktop or do something else. I WAS able to open iPhoto and it looked like all my photos were still in there, BUT if I double click on any of them to enlarge them or try to edit them, I can't. That's all I know at this point -- don't know if that represents the entire problem, but there is no doubt I have a major issue around iPhoto and my photo files. How do I resolve that without losing my pics?

  • OS 10.4.2 User account corrupt?

    G5 dual 2.7 Ghz - OS 10.4.2
We had a power supply die during use.
The supply has been replaced and I'm testing the mac now.
The user account ( user A ) that was open when the Mac died will not log in.
The other pre existing accounts log in fine.
When I try to login to "user A"
    - Enter name and password.
    - The login screen disappears and all I see is the desktop background.
No Menus, No dock, No hard drive icon.
I'm unable to do anything at this point but force a shut down with the power button.
    1) I deleted the "user A" account and chose to save its home folder info to the deleted users folder.
    2) I created a new "user A" account, same name and password as before.
    - but the same login issue occurs.
    3) I can create a new user account with a different name and all is well.
Any suggestions on how I can create User A's account as it was before?

Do you want to recover files from the corrupt deleted account?
Instructions here Mac OS X: How to recover a home folder (directory).
But there is always the possibility, that you may reintroduce whatever is corrupt, so be very selective in what you retrieve.
After you have the new account configured to your liking, you can then change the Short Name of the Home folder, with this Change Shortname - The Easy Way.

  • Apple mail crashes on start-up: user account corrupt?

    Hi
I have installed all the latest software updates, but my Mail keeps crashing. I have cleaned (reset) plist and emptied and cleaned the address book, but the problem persists. I have created a new user account and Mail works fine for that account. I think that I have a corrupt user account. Is there anyway to clean a user account without losing all my doc's etc?

  • Live account corrupt

    Hello,
I have a question about a corrupt user profile in Windows 8.1.  Unfortunately it is now no longer on just one machine, but on 3.  I know how to fix a local account in Windows 8.1, as that is the same process for Windows XP - 7.
How do I go about fixing a Microsoft Live account thought that has become corrupted on more than one computer?
    Michael R. Mastro II

Well over half of the programs I use do not work.  I click on the link from the start menu and it will not load up, for instance I click on Microsoft Word, nothing happens.  Now if I go into the folder via Explorer I can launch Word perfectly
fine.  If I put a CD in my computer to listen to music, it brings up the XBox Music app (which is not the default), and says I need to sign in to use the app.  Unfortunately the sign in does not work and it says it cannot connect to the XBox service.
The default setting for a CD is Windows Media Player, I checked after it brought up the XBox Music App.  Also all games that are tied to the XBox service, will not work, they crash to the desktop immediately.  I have brought this up on the XBox
forums, but it landed on deaf ears since no one will reply to this in over a month (That is great customer service).  Now on all my computers I have a separate local account I use as an Administrator, but the Microsoft account also has Administrator privileges.
When ever I install a program I allow it for everyone to use.  Now if I go to my local account, everything works perfectly fine.  Word will load the moment I click on it, I put in a CD and Windows Media Player comes up, since it can't use the XBox
service.  I went in on the live account and verified that the start menu links point to the programs (like Word), and they do.  So the Live account must be corrupted in some form.  This is completely annoying to have to go through the extra
steps to get a program to launch, I feel like I am back in the Windows 3.1 days.

  • Local Account corruption

I am starting to see a couple of issues with my Windows 7 Pro systems that I am not sure if ZCM's DLU policy might be causing issues with.
I worked on a students computer yesterday where the Novell Login worked as designed but the local log reported the Local profile was corrupt and kills the login. Deleting the local username and renaming the profile folder for that student seems to fix the issue. Could the DLU policy be causing problems with the Local account?
The second item I am seeing more and more of is that the Windows 7 Pro Startup repair seems to be occurring more frequently most recently. The process is random for student computers so I have attributed the issue to the student forcing a shutdown instead of shutting down the computer correctly. At this point I am not so sure. I have a larger number of repairs that cannot be resolved and the laptop needing a complete reinstall.
Any ideas on either of these issues?
    Thanks
    Richard

We have been having trouble for some time with Local non-roaming Volatile DLU accounts not completely being deleted at shutdown/reboot. When the account is incompletely deleted, the next time that user logs in, it will often cause errors, such as using the "default profile" or "temporary profile" for that user only. Sometimes a single user will have dozens of local profiles on one machine due to this problem, not counting dozens of other local user profiles which should have all been deleted.
I've written a batch file that deletes the left behind remnants of user accounts, at least allowing you to have a clean machine, while resolving the Default and Temporary profile problem. It can be automated to run silently with a simple bundle every time a user logs in. I'm sure there are a million ways to improve it, but this is what I have so far. Also, it's obviously a band-aid solution, not a real fix. It hasn't caused any problems I am aware of to date, and we have been using it in production for a year now.
Please read the comments in the batch before running.
There is also an Administrator Settings area you can update for your own needs.

  • User accounts corrupted - how to fix

So my Mac locked up the other day when the babysitter decided to put it to sleep. The fan was on full and it was unresponsive. I force-powered it off and then on again. When it came back, almost everything was fine except for my wife's account. It had switched to sort of my son's account. What I mean is that my son is running the restricted finder, and when my wife logged in, it was using the restricted finder and the "My Applications" folders, etc. were pointing to my son's directories. Everything else was normal, so when you select full finder, it's running from my wife's account (has her desktop files, etc.), but the dock was still the messed up one. Going into Accounts as me, it shows her as an admin and doesn't show that she is running the restricted finder.
I'm quite comfortable with Unix sys admin activities, but OS-X doesn't run things the same way as normal Unix systems. Can anybody help me figure out what's gotten messed up and how to fix?
    Thanks.
    Andrew

With a full or otherwise marginalized hard disk drive with possible damages
to files or directory (or corruption, lost data, or files lost due to meddling) the
advice to make a full backup of the computer's contents to an external HDD
in a suitable enclosure for use with your computer, is the best first step to
not loose any more data. Clone utilities help do this while retaining what is
left of the correct and original file structure which would be otherwise lost.
For other ideas about user accounts and their place in OS X systems, you
can take a look at how they work and how the topic is addressed in these
selected web page links. User accounts are the basis of keeping a system
secure and help keep the contents organized and protected. If someone
who has no business in an Admin account had this access, they could be
responsible for a considerable degree of damage. And the blame does not
necessarily fall on the last person to unknowingly mess it up. The owner
has to be accountable for learning how to best protect their investment and
the contents of the computer, and other users, from loss or harm.

To take charge of security and account management when more than one
person uses a computer (or even just one admin-owner account user) is a
preventative action. The later OS X systems are even more elaborately made

often pro-level documents and some of them are 3MB downloads.

  • App store account corrupt after ios5 upgrade

After upgrade to ios5 my app store account seems corrupt.
1: My purchased apps disappeared BOTH from phone AND from app store. There are no apps listed under Purchased inn App store.
2: I cannot download any apps. My App store account expects me to fill in "a valid US address" to let me. Since I live in Europe, this is obviously difficult. Result is: no apps for me - no reloads, no updates, no new ones.
    Any known fixes?
    Thanks

    I had similar problems.
I noticed that there where a lot of other applications than App store that were struggling with internet connectivity as well. I was using Wifi at the time.
So I thought; maybe its not a problem with the apps, but with the Wifi.. Sure enough, as soon as i plugged my laptop into the router with a cable, everything worked a 100%.
When I switched back to wifi, it went back to the previous crappy state.
But it seems like I managed to fix this as well, while being connected to Wifi and no cable:
    -Go to System preferences
    -Network
-On the top of the window, there is a drop down menu for switching "location".
    -Select Automatic
And that did the trick for me.. My location was set to something else than "Automatic", some Netflix trickery I've done a long time before updating to Yosemite...
Hope this can help you as well:-)

  • Admin account corrupted after upgrade to OSX 10.7.1

It seems like my admin account has been corrupted either during upgrade to OSX 10.7.1
It has not been possible to upgrade to OSX 10.7.2 nor has it been possible to upgrade iTunes to update my iPhone.
Creating a new admin account both has been possible. But I'd like to keep my original account since I have been using this for quite some time now and starting from the scratch would be a major drawback.
Removing admin accounts, rebooting, granting admin rights and rebooting didn't solve the issue.
Does anyone have some idea how I can get my account to work again?
    Thanks for your help.

I'm having the same issues Lucio- I have a MacBook Pro, 15", 2.5 Ghz, Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 4GB, and after upgrading to 10.7.2, my CPU runs over 180°F consistantly- way too hot.
And all I'm running is Safari with a window or two open.  I don't get it.
I hope Apple has a solution for this soon- I'm beginning to see cracks in my LCD screen on the left side, and worried my hard drive will crash or internal sections will melt under the heat.

  • IMac User account corrupted

hi im a pretty new mac user been using for maybe 3 months now and so far not so good
I think i have now come to terms that my main user accout is so corrupted its becoming really irritating trying to use
    Things like
Im creating a new website and when i view it in safari (on main user account) its like the CSS sheet is all wrong, yet on every other computer and on my other account its totally fine
Things I've downloaded in safari keep randomly deleting themselves from the list (although it deletes back to a certain date, this could be the date it became corrupt)
Textedit no longer opens (but opens fine on other account)
Preview no longer opens (but opens fine on other account)
I called Apple a while back and someone told me to re-install Lion which i did, but it never worked i then awaited a phone call back which i never got that was about 4 weeks ago i tried to let it go but more and more faults keep appearing .
Am i out of luck and will have to stop using that account or is their anyway to "restore" it without loosing all my files. I suppose if the worst came to the worst i could just kee it for my files and use a new user account, or would that eventually become corrupt too ?
Thanks in advance for any help recived

yes, but you should try fixing your original account first. what happens when you try to log into your main account? does it reject the password? or does it try to log in but fails and kicks you back to the login window? the latter can be caused by system cache problems. try this suggestion by kappy

  • User Account corruption? fix?

    MBP 2.16, 15", 2G RAM, Leopard
I added iWorks '08 and had the same problems that others had. An Apple Software Update came out early this morning. Updated but iW 08 still does not work. I uninstalled iW with AppZapper and re-installed but same problem - starts and "unexpectedly quits before it opens.
SWITCHED ACCOUNTS and it Works on the other account. This tells me that there is a problem with my main user account.
Any idea on where to look or what to do User account. This is a user account that I have used since 10.2 and have lots of email as well as secure web accounts that I don't wish to start changing or moving.

I don't know what Dreamhost is, but it might be your keychain item is bad for that site. Open Keychain Access and delete your keychain entry for the Dreamhost site.
Then, try to log in again.

  • User Account Corrupted?

We think I may have farkled my user account with improper shut downs (an entire other story I won't bore you with). The User Account will not mount fully. It starts to, then it flashes icons, and sends me back to the login box. Needless to say, I can no longer work in that environment.
I can log in as another user, which is great. I can still work. But, there are things in the other user account I need access to... i.e. iCal. Is there a way to access this info as another user on the same computer? I don't remember if the old iCal account was set to shared or not.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Is your "working" user account an administrator?
If so, then use Finder to navigate to:
    /users/<brokenuser>/
You will see that your can see the home directory, but don't have permission to look at anything except the Public and Sites folders.
Select the Library folder (under /users/<brokenuser>/), and do a Get Info. Scroll to the bottom to see "Sharing and Permissions". You will see that <brokenuser> has Read & Write, but that "everyone" has no access.
Click on the padlock and enter the administrator password. Then click on the "no access" and select "read only" or "read & write".
You can then naviagate to the /users/<brokenuser>/library/calendars director. Copy everything in here to /users/<workinguser>/library/calendars (replacing the contents if you do not have anything of value in the workinguser account.
You can do this to get any data out of any directory in the account. Then delete the account.

  • AD User account corrupt

Hi, does anyone have an idea how to rebuild this user's AD account. Below is the error message that we get:
    Microsoft Exchange Error

    Hi  CSTav
    Thank you for your question.
    By my understand, you delete a user account and his mailbox, now you want to restore it. If that, you can refer to the following step;
You download a tool which is ADRecycleBin.exe
In Powershell ,you can use Import-Module ActiveDirectory  import AD module.
You can use Get-ADForest –Current loggedonuser to check forest function level whether it is 2008R2 or higher, if not ,please use
Set-ADForestMode to promote forest function level .
Then  you can use Enable-ADOptionalFeature ‘Recycle Bin Feature’ –Scope ForestConfigurationSet  -Target abc.com(abc.com is domain name) then you can choose
Yes to start Recycle Bin Feature function.
Run ADRecycleBin.exe with administrator permission, then you choose “Users and Computers” and “Groups” .then you click “Load Deleted Objects”.
In ADRecycleBin by Overall Solution Inc. you will find some uses who was deleted on the left, you can choose some users  you want to restore ,then you can click “Restore checked Objects”
When Restore Summary remind “success restored ”,you can check your AD user accounts and  mailbox account.
You can refer to the following link:

  • Safari 5 seems to have slowed the OS for my Admin user account

After installing Safari 5 (now 5.0.2), and after a few Safari hangs and force quits, my OS for my Admin user account has become slow. Opening folders and seeing the contents is slow; moving small documents from folder to folder is very slow; cutting and pasting text in a MS Word document sometimes takes two or three tries, as the text highlighting cursor function has slowed. (Interestingly, Safari's basic click and pageload functions seem to work fairly normally, but with the same highlighting and copy/paste slowness that affects all other programs. Also, my mouse pointer moves quickly as per normal.)
However, I created a new user account as a test comparison and found that the new user account is NOT slow. It works perfectly fine.
Any thoughts on what I should do? Is my original Admin account corrupted? Is it possible to simply move my personal files (Word docs, iTunes songs, bookmarks) to the new user account and then delete my original Administrator account?
What should I do? Thanks everyone.

Well, it was worth a shot.
How full is your hard drive? Always a good starting point for diagnosing slowdowns.
Sometimes running periodic maintenance scripts helps, because it cleans some caches that a Safari reset won't. The scripts are supposed to run automatically in the wee hours of the morning when most people are computing, but the problem is that they only run if the computer is on and not sleeping. Not too realistic.
This article in an excellent series of "keep the Apple sweet" articles talks about the scripts and how to run them manually:
    http://thexlab.com/faqs/maintscripts.html
They are less important in later incarnations of Mac OSX as some o the tasks they do were shifted to start-up, but doing them is worth trying.
Also use Activity Monitor to check for a runaway background process. It's possible that this could affect only one user account. If you've not used Activity Monitor before, make sure you change its "Show" option from the default of "My Processes" to "All Processes" or you might miss some nasty troublemakers. Also click in the "%CPU" column header to sort by processor usage. With no user apps running, (basically an idling computer) no single process should demand more than ~5 percent of the processor. Let AM display for a few minutes while you watch it, as some processes toggle back and forth as they activate.
Running any anti-virus software? Most does more Mac-harm than Mac-good.
    Keep us posted!
