Account for kids

I want to download music onto a Ipod Nano for my son. should I start a new apple ID for him  or can I downloaded selected music from my itunes list for his I POD Nano?  I just want to have parental control over his account.

  • ITunes Match family account and separate store accounts for kids

    Hi there,
I've googled a lot and also read through this support forum, but I'm still not sure whether I can use iTunes Match with my setup or not. My setup is like this:
    1) I do have one iTunes account for most of my music ans app puchases
    2) My kids are using my iTunes account but they also have their own accounts for their purchases.
    3) All those accounts are synced with one iTunes instance on a Mac (thus, if kid A purchases a song kid B is also able to sync the song to its iPod)
All devices are authorized for all accounts, but I want to keep separate accounts for my kids, so I can control their iTunes budget (they only have gift cards, no credit card is associated with their account)
So, as far as I've understood if I enable iTunes Match on my Mac, _all_ songs will be transferred to iCloud - no matter if I have purchased them or my kids. Fine for my iPhone, since the iTunes Match account and my iTunes Store account will be the same and I'm authorized for my kids songs.
But what do I have to expect on my kids iPods?
    - Do I have a chance to use the family account for iTunes Match and the kids account for puchases?
    - If so, what happens if a song is bought on the iPod with the kids account - does it get matched on iTunes Match with the family account?
    - What about apps? I guess this no subject here, since I'm able to specify a different apps store account anyway - right?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ralph

You're not going to be able to keep the same setup if you want to use iTunes Match across all your iDevices. iTunes Match is associated with one iTunes Store account ID, and since iDevices can only be signed into one iTunes store account ID at a time (and can only switch iDs every 90 days), to be able to use iTM all iDevices will have to be signed into the same iTunes Store account ID that was originally used to purchase iTM. There's really no way around this.

  • Accounts for kids and other ramblings

I was trying to create limited accounts for my 3 kids who all just got iPhones.  After much searching, it seemed that the only way to do this was by making an allowance account.  So, I went through the process of setting up an allowance for one of them using their iCloud ID (@me.com) and was told that they are not set up for iTunes store.  So, I tried logging them into iTunes and was told that I had to put a credit card on their account.  Wait a second!!!!  The whole point of this was to avoid having my credit card on their accounts.  Just trying to get something working, I added my credit card and we were up and running.  I then added the allowance to their account.  At this point, iTunes let me remove the credit card info from their account.  I did this for 2 of the kids without an issue.  When I got to my daughter, she already had an iTunes account with a credit card associated to it.  My intention was to switch her over to the allowance account and remove the credit card.  I went through the process and it told me that I needed to call Apple support in order to complete the process.  What the heck Apple?
Additionally, I switched my credit card number to a different card before doing any of this.  The allowances however were charged to the card that was previously on file, not the new one that I entered because I wanted the new card to be used!
All in all, it has been a miserable process.  I definitely think that Apple should put into place a technique of creating child accounts based off of the Parent's account such that the Parent can control the child's spending directly from their account within iTunes or via. an app on their iPhone, iPad, ...
If I'm missing something, please fill me in on what I need to do or where I went wrong.  I don't want them to use my iTunes ID directly since I don't want them to automatically download my content, we don't listen to the same music and want that to be separate, and I certainly don't want all of the apps that they buy automatically appearing on my iPhone and iPad (yet I still want to use this feature for my own content).
    Thanks!

Excellent ideas and can't understand why it is so difficult or wasn't implemented and thought out. Makes sense.
Ask Siri and see what she has to say! who knows, maybe they use questions to Siri to see what customer's want to know.
In the meantime, if you can, use iTunes Feedback. http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • Family Sharing accounts for kids

I created Mail aliases for my kids as they were too young to have an Apple ID back in the mac.com/me.com days.  Now with Family Sharing, I can create accounts for them (and they are getting older).  Is there a way to convert those aliases to Family Sharing accounts?  I wasn't able to to do this before with a MobileMe Family Pack, but Family Sharing brings a new set of rules on the accounts restrictions.

I'm afraid that aliases remain tied forever to the account which created them - you can't move them to another account nor turn them into an actual account.

  • Creating email accounts for kids?

I'd like to set up email accounts for my kids, but I'd like them to be part of my apple ID.  I've been exploring apple, and I can see how to create a new email but not how to add additional email accounts to my apple ID.  Any suggestions?

Each iCloud account/ID can only have a single iCloud email account.  If you wanted to create additional iCloud email accounts, you would have to create additional iCloud accounts with separate Apple IDs.  A limitation to be aware of in this regard is that each iOS device can only create a maximum of three iCloud accounts.  Given this, you may be better off creating email accounts with a different provider for them, such as Gmail.

  • Setting up Apple ID and Accounts for Kids

I'd like to setup 2 accounts for my kids - but don't want to setup separate e-mail accounts - I'd like to like them to my e-mail account.
Can this be done - i.e. link multiple apple IDs to one mail?
Or can I setup an itunes account with a voucher without the need for an e-mail address?
If not, it's not much hassle to setup the e-mail and only give em the password to the itunes account and not the mail address.

This is most unlikely, since if any charges go void apple will most likely be responsible for this and will have to pay out around $10 for every dollar charged (and not paid off) and you must be of age 13 to sign up for an apple ID. Hope I helped.

  • Setting up iTunes account for kids

What's the best way to set up iPod touch's for kids aged 11 and 10?
Should they have their own accounts so there's no worry about using my credit card?  Do all the apps they download have to sync with my iPad.

I keep mine on my iTunes account so I don't have to track multiple accounts with separate purchases.  All you need to do is go to Settings > Restrictions and enable a 4-digit PIN and disable certain features, like in-app purchases, forget itunes password immediately, delete apps, change accounts, etc.  Add the account "find my iPhone" and then you can track where they are if needed too.  By not allowing account changes, they can't add, delete, or chagne any email, calendar, or contacts accounts after it's setup.

  • ICloud Account for Kids?

OK, so here's my poser for the day:
My son (9) is getting an iPod Touch for Xmas (don't tell him!! ) and I'm going to link it to my own AppleID for iTunes and the like so that I can manage any purchases.
However, I'd like him to have his own iCloud account for email and syncing capability (let along "Find My iPod"), and so that he's not burdening my own storage. As he's 9, it's not possible to create his own AppleID (without faking his birthdate, which I won't do, of course). Is there a way to create only an iCloud account for him?
What I really don't want (or need) is another AppleID, as I already have several of them, plus I'd like his account to stay with him as he grows up and eventually be able to link it to his own AppleID as and when he becomes eligible.
Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

There is no way to create a new iCloud account without an AppleID unfortunately. Family accounts no longer exist since the demise of MobileMe.
Apple doesn't appear to have thought about and catered for people in your situation, despite them knowing that iOS devices are being given to kids much younger than 9.
Parents I know have just faked the birthdate when creating the AppleID for their child to create an iCloud account. It can easily be updated later when they are within the arbitrary age limit and given the password to the account. They continue to use the parents AppleID for iTunes and AppStore purchases until they are old enough to make their own purchases.

  • Enabling Displays Prefs in Simple Finder account for KId Pix user.

    Hi,
I have set up a managed "Simple Finder" account for my son so he can play Kid Pix - however Kid PIx want's to run at "800x600" and "Thousands of Colours"
It tries to make the switch but ends up at the wrong resolution - after allowing system prefs to run the Displays settings is still greyed out.Is there a way to enable this or is there another workaround someone knows about ??
    Thanks
Dual 2.66 Dual Core MacPro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

It very likely is possible to allow a "Simple Finder" access to the "Displays" pref pane, either through "Workgroup Manager.app" or by hand editing 'mcx_settings'.
However, from the description of the problem, an easier workaround is probably to enable the "Displays" menu item. While logged in to the managed account, temporarily "switch to full Finder" from the "Finder" menu, navigate to "/System" > "Library" > "Core Services" > "Menu Extras" and double-click the "Displays.menu". Up to ten of the most recently used resolutions can be displayed in the menu, and "managed" users can change them without accessing the "Displays" pref pane itself.

  • ITunes account for kids

So my two kids have been using my Apple ID / account on their computers (iMacs x 2). I have purchased music for them with that account, plus movies, plus ripped some kids cds. I want to get them their own acounts so that I can un-authorize their two computers with my account and start letting them use their own. I would set them up with my cc, and let them also use their Apple/iTunes gift cards.
The question I have is can the kid's music authorized on my ID be transferred to their new acounts? If t eh music, games, apps, etc are on their iPods, can I transfer ii that way or will they not be able to play it when I deauthorize my account on their iMacs?

Any data purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store that includes DRM protection cannot be transferred to another iTunes account. This includes 3rd party apps. All apps - all paid and free apps include DRM protection which is tied to the iTunes account that was used to download the apps.

  • HT2105 iTunes Account for kids

After providing a monthly iTunes allowance for my son, the system still wont let me finalize his iTunes account. I have set up his account using iTunes; however, when he logs in to the iTunes store he gets a message stating that the account has not been used in the store, please review. When we go through the steps for the review and I enter his year of birth, the system denies finalizing the account as he is under 13. Any suggestions?

  • How do I set up different icloud accounts for each family member and make them able to access them on our common mac using their user name on the mac.  I am doing this to make sure kids don't get access to our messages.

We have several apple products in the family.  I would like to set up different icloud accounts for each memeber.  I lately noticed having activated different devices with same icloud account that each device can access everyones messages by going in their settings and clicking which number or email they want to use to see messages.  Let me make sure I am understood, on my sons ipod in his messages settings he can switch to my cell number and see all my messages.  Re setting the devices isn't my great issue but can i set up each kids user account on my mac to their individual icloud accounts?
    Thanks!

Any devices connected to the same icloud account can sync all the data on that account.  For this reason an icloud account is really for a single user.
On a mac, if each user has their own account, then the itunes for that mac account should be set up to connect to that user's icloud account (System preferences>icloud).

  • How do I add an email account for my kids

I am trying to add additional email accounts for my kids. How do I go about creating one?

Log in with your primary account, then navigate to the Account Profile page. At the bottom, there's a section called Sub-accounts. You should have a button there for adding a new sub account.
