Account photo: where is it stored?

I've got to use my iChat account's (I want to put it in my User Account photo so it shows in the users list at Login) but I can't locate it. Anyone? When I click on it, the Recent Pictures dialog drops, but it is not included.
Thanks, people.

Hi Alex,
Most have been here since iChat 2 and have not taken a Mug shot when the Start Up Screen suggest that this might be what you want to use.
So our suggestions of Looking in the Recent Pics folder is our way of finding what we understand you to be asking.
To Broaden that further we would next ask you to remember what pic you chose originally if you changed from the Running Man if you have an AIM Name or the Blue Globe if a .mac account name.
This is what happens if you chose a new pic.
You click on the current pic to change it
It gives you the option to Edit Pic
From the next Pane you can Choose a new pic.
Doing so takes you by default to /Library/Application Support/Apple/iChat Icons but you can in fact navigate to anywhere on your Hard Drive(s) for a Pic
You then resize it and iChat Saves a Copy as a Jpeg 2000 pic of the bit you want and sticks that in Recent Pictures and puts it up as the current choice.
I realise that this is not what you are asking but give it as an explanation of what everyone else was answering, as it is their experience.
Having tested taking a Video Snap Shot by the above method I can only find a copy in Recent Pics
I have also tested setting up a New User and then iChat and do not get the option to create a Video Snap Shot at that time.
If I do Change the Pic in System Preferences > Accounts then it is stored it Recent Pics even before I start up iChat.
It is saved at the size I set and not the actual preview that is taken.
If this preview is stored somewhere I can not find it easily.
I realise this is a long way round to say I can not help but I am now as mystified as you are.

I sent e-mail photos from iPhoto using my @me account but I do not find the history of sent e-mails in my new iCloud account. Where can I find the history of sent e-mails?

Using iPhoto as the email client in iPhoto does not creatge a sent copy.  iPhoto indicates in the Info drawer if a photo was emailed by iPhoto (under the Sharing section):
There's no easy way to search for photos that have been emailed. Each photo has to be inspected via the Info tray.
One could add a keyword to emailed photos which would let a smart album keep track of those photos.
A better solution, IMO, is to set Mail as the email client (in iPhoto's General preference pane) and use it.  That will give you an sent copy, better access to your contacts and, if you want a theme, numerous photo themes under the Stationary section of Mail.

  • WHERE is Metadata stored for photos in iPhoto?

I need to find out WHERE all the information I have entered for various photos in my 3000+ photo collection is physically stored.
So, when I bring up a photo, from within iPhoto, and enter a Title, date, time, Comments, etc. WHERE does iPhoto actually put that information? More importantly, I need to BACK-UP that data, so need to know where it's stored to do that.
I just moved a folder within the iPhoto Library folder ( A B-I-G 'No-No' obviousely! ) and BOOM... all my photos were GONE, along with MONTHS worth of time it took me to organize, label and notate information on every single photo in my library - most were scanned in from those boxes of photos we all have under our beds, etc. and they contained only the date I brought them into iPhoto. Since I have photos going back to the mid-eighteen hundreds, dates in 2003 or 2005 don't quite hack it! Now I'm starting from scratch to do it all again, and want to make SURE I am able to back-up that data this time.
    Thansk...

    Vic:
For future reference there are a couple of Applescripts for copying the EXIF information from iPhoto to a file and/or back to iPhoto - http://scriptbuilders.net/files/iphotoiptckeywordimportexportutilities1.0.html.
iPhoto does not do a great job in keeping metadata/EXIF info tied to the files except within iPhoto itself and, as you've experienced, that can be fragile. Image management applications like iView MediaPro write nearly all annotations directly back to the file itself.

  • Lost my account photo

So I took an account photo when i recently installed leopard at the start up...when it's creating the account and all of that stuff...
I was messing around with Photo Booth, and clicked the account photo button, and it replaced the old one that i like with a new one...
How can i get my old one back? where was it located? I have made time machine backups, so maybe if i knew where the old photo is stored at, i could retrive it?

Photo Booth puts the pictures it takes into ~/Pictures/Photo Booth
Just open that folder up, and then launch Time Machine. TM will restore the picture into the folder, but when you launch Photo Booth the picture won't show up in the tray. You can move the picture to another area on your drive, and then set it manually in your Account preference.

  • I scanned some black and white negatives into my computer (iMac) where they were stored aas positives on the hard disc. When I import them to iPhoto they turn back into negatives. How do I change them into positives for printing?

I have scanned some black and white negatives into my computer(iMac) where they are stored on the hard disc as positives. When I import them into iPhoto to print they turn back into negatives. How do I turn them back into positives?

That's because you scanned them as B/W photos and iPhoto 08 doesn't support the grayscale color profile.  You can either rescan them as color photos or export them as originals out of iPhoto to a folder on the desktop and applhy this Automator application, Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB Profile, on them and then remimport into iPhoto. You can download it from  Toad's Cellar .  Be sure to read the warning on the website about not applying it on your only copies.

  • Where is iTunes storing my album artwork?

    Running:
    OS X 10.9 Mavericks
    iTunes 11.1.3
All of my 500+ albums in iTunes have artwork, however my Album Artwork folder on my mac is empty and has no photos.
I've looked in iTunes media and all other files and I can't find it anywhere.
(I want to select it as a folder to share with my Apple TV and use it as a screensaver)
Is there anyway I can trace the file location to find out where iTunes is storing all of my artwork?

    westkestrel wrote:
I've looked in Album Artwork and it says there are no photos there. (I even searched in each individual folder within it and it is empty)
If they are stored there, they are encrypted anyway, so you would not be able to use them.
When looking through the idividual song files under itunes I can't find anything that isn't in an audio format. There are no jpegs, png, etc.
They are actually embedded in the song files.  To get at it, right-click the track in the library, Get Info, go to the Artwork tab, and you should see it.  You can do a Copy from there.

  • We have 3, soon to be 4 iphones under one contract.  How do we separate our iphones to have separate icloud accounts without losing information already stored?

We have 3, soon to be 4 iphones under one contract.  How do we separate our iphones to have separate icloud accounts without losing information already stored?

One of them can keep the current account.  Since the iCloud email account must stay with the current account, whoever uses it for email might be the best one to keep it.  You can then migrate the other phones to separate accounts, along with a copy of the data.  To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud), choose Keep on My iDevice and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone.  Then sign back in with a different Apple ID to create the new account and choose Merge to upload the data.
Once all the phones are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete each other's data from your accounts.

  • Where are photographs stored on my computer?

as have all my pics on a separate hard disk, want to delete a double i have on my hard disk - problem is cannot find that file anywhere. where do i access in iphoto where and how to put the pictures?
yes, tried in the Pictures folder, but there is nothing there.
i seem to remember that in iPhoto i can somehow reroute where pictures are stored. where and how do i find this?
    Many thanks,
    Mark

    Mark:
Do you have a library currently that is a managed library? That is when photos are imported into it the files are copied into the library package/folder? If so the photos are located in the Originals folder of that library package in your Pictures folder. You can open it like this.
It sounds like you want to have a referenced library where you are responsible for the management of the source files and have iPhoto only use alias files pointing to them. There are some consequences to that system. One is that if you have the library open and the disk gets dismounted iPhoto can lose the link between the alias files and the originals and you may have to reset them either folder by folder (if you're lucky) or file by file. Another downside is that if you delete a photo from the library you will have to find that file via the Finder on the external HD and delete it manually.
You would be better served, IMO, if you had a managed library on the external HD which contained all of your photos. Then have a smaller library on the MBP with just the most current or most important files for when you take the laptop on the road. You can use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager to copy albums or events from one library to the other as needed.
You will also need a system to backup the external HD since those will be your only copy of the photos. There's a thread today by a user whose external HD crashed with the only copies of his photos on it. He's paying a considerable amount of money to recover that HD, more than a second external HD would cost. It's something to think about.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Where is mail stored under Tiger?

I want to back up old correspondence, both outgoing and incoming. Where are they stored? Thanks.

    Michael,
Just to suppliment your good advice, the Mail Downloads folder is not the primary location of attachments to emails -- attachments reside in the mailbox (including Inbox), thus within the Messages folder of the mailbox, and generally are only seen in the downloads folder if opened by another application other than mail. The preference for how long a copy stays in the Downloads folder can be set in Mail Preferences/General.
I think the Mail Downloads folder has been added, primarily to support IMAP and .mac accounts where the file attached would otherwise require access to the server to use beyond simply viewing in the Mail window, but operates much the same with POP accounts.
I would appreciate any thoughts you have about this, since I may have missed something in my explorations.

  • Changing where iPhotos are stored

I want to change where iPhotos are stored. My computer HD is getting full. How can I change to an external HD?

1 - make sure the EHD is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) with ownership set to be ignored:
2 - drag your iPhoto Library package from the Pictures folder on your iMac to the EHD.
3 - when the copying is done launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and in the next window select the library on the EHD.
4 - once you've confirmed that the EHD library is working properly and has all your photos you can delete the library from your Pictures folder.

  • When I take a screenshot (command, shift, 4), I get an error: "you don't have permission to save files in the location where screenshots are stored". Help!

I used to be able to take screenshots just fine.
Now, when I try to take a screenshot (using command + shift + 4) I get an error stating that my screenshot cannot be saved, because I do not have permission to save where they are stored. HELP!

If not running Lion, please do this:
With the Finder active, press the following key combinations, in this order:
    Shift-Command-H
    Command-3
    Command-I
The Info window for your home folder will open. Click the lock icon to authenticate. In the Sharing & Permissions section, you should have read & write access. If not, make it so. Regardless of whether you made any changes, select "Apply to enclosed items" from the action (gear icon) menu.
    If running Lion, do this:
Boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities > Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A “Reset Password” window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled “Select the user account” if not already selected.
Under “Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs”, click the “Reset” button.
Select Apple menu > Restart from the menu bar.

  • Photos offloaded from phone stored in cloud?

If I offload photos from my iPhone onto my Mac laptop are they automatically stored or saved in Apple's cloud so that I get retrieve them later? Where are all my photos stored that are in my phone and iPhoto? I know some files are on my hard drive but are they also kept on the cloud? All of them?

Depends.  If you have iPhoto connected to your photo stream and have Automatic Import checked in iPhoto>Preferences>Photo Stream, your photo stream photos are automatically imported into your iPhoto Events and the photos are stored on your hard drive.  If not, a rolling collection of up to 1000 photos will be kept in your my photo stream album and older photos will start being deleted once you reach that limit.
Other photos in iPhoto are stored on your Mac.  You can see where by clicking on a photo and going to File>Reveal in Finder>Original File.
The camera roll photos on your iPhone are only on your phone, but copies may be streamed to iPhoto and imported to your Mac if you have photo stream enabled (as discussed above).  They are also stored in your iPhone backup.
Photos in the Photo Library album (if you have one) were synced from your Mac and should be therefore be on your computer.
Don't rely on iCloud to back up your photos.  If you want to be sure you have all your photos backed up on your computer, save your photo stream photos to the camera roll (unless already there) by tapping Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Then import all your camera roll photos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.

  • Account photo location

When installing Leopard, it asks you to take a photo for your user account. I did that, and it is set as my user picture right now. HOWEVER, WHERE is it located? I know about the Library/Caches...location, but that is a little version of the picture taken. There must be a bigger version of the account photo somewhere. It is also not in Photo Booth, because it was taken during installation, not WITH photo booth. Anybody who knows a mac well, please help me out.
It might be in some weird format, because i know that some pictures that Address Book uses are "plain text" format, but when opened with quicktime, they are pictures....

There is no such thing as a "plain text" format for an image.
Images are not usually opened with quicktime but with preview.
I don't quite follow you here.

I already quoted the minimum requirements, look in the post before yours.
You will have to upgrade your Mac to at least 10.7.5, upgrades are not free, you buy them from the App Store. Mountain Lion is the best but your Mac must be compatible.
Here is a list of compatible machines.
Also note that some older apps (Office 2004, Appleworks) will not run on Mountain Lion.
