Account Picture...is it really lost??

When my wife got her iMac in August of 2006, we snapped a great photo during the setup of her account. I was messing around in photobooth yesterday and seem to have overwritten the account picture associated with her account.
I have checked library\caches and her image com.apple.user502pictureCache.tiff has yesterday's date where mine has a date in 8/07.
Is there any way to get the Account photo back? I do not have a backup of the data in the caches folder and the image originally captured was done as part of the account setup rather than from photobooth (were i have backed up all these photos). I also read that Tiger does not have a time machine feature to zap the system to a previous date/state. Are there any other options to get this image back?
THx!
Intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

It sounds like the file is gone. Sorry.
Now is a good time to start a backup regimen. I duplicate my whole hard drive to an external drive daily. I also maintain an archival backup with Retrospect to a third drive. I have used this to recover user pictures that I had accidentally overwritten.
Remember that hard drives can fail at any time without notice, destroying all of your data forever. So if your data is important to you, be sure to have backups!

  • Can't set account picture

I just tried to change the picture associated with my (administrator) account. I go to System Preferences, select Accounts, select my account, unlock it, select Picture tab, select Edit..., and then either choose a picture by navigating to it in iPhoto or dragging a picture into the Images window, or taking a video snapshot and selecting Set. The picture shows up as my new account picture but then immediately reverts to the default generic silhouette picture. I can't get the picture I select to stick.
Something must be corrupted. Can anyone help?

I've had the same problem for SO long. I've looked here before, and I've changed the address book and account pictures and my iCloud account picture and address book in iCloud and in my phone. EVERYTHING.
Then today I realised that my problem was being caused by a little setting I'd enabled in the Facebook for iPhone app. Basically, you can set the app (through friends, then this icon in the top right of an arrow) to sync your contacts' photos with those from Facebook so that you have up to date pictures of them.
In those options, there's an option to 'replace existing photos' of contacts. It was turned on. BAD IDEA.
Since my iCloud account has the same name as my Facebook account, the Facebook app was replacing my contact card info on my iPhone to my Facebook photo (which had been my account photo for a short while). Of course, this was syncing to my iCloud account and finally to my computer, changing my account picture to my Facebook photo. Changing it back on iCloud etc was reverted to the Facebook photo every time that I opened the Facebook app, which caused it to sync the contacts' photos on my phone with the friends list ones.
That is why it is really variable how often the picture changes back, because it depends how long it's been since you last opened the Facebook app on your iPhone! Finally, I am SO GLAD that I managed to figure out the root of the problem. Turning off that 'replace existing photos' problem has fixed everything.
I hope that this solves all of you guys' problems too!

  • Account picture keeps reverting

    Hi all!
Since I've installed 10.7, I can't set my user account picture to one of my own photos.
Each time I select my pict and click "set", it reverts to the original (that I want to change out of) after a few seconds.
The picture I want to use is in my Pictures folder.
The problem appears both in System Preferences > Users and Groups AND when editing my card through the Address Book.
    Thank you.

  • User Account Picture Question

In the drop-down menu of +System Preferences>Accounts+ that appears when you click the user account picture, there is another menu that is labeled "Recent Pictures" where there are some older pictures you have used are located.
My question is if there is a way to delete these recent pictures, as there are some that are doubles and others I simply do not want. This is really annoying me, and I can't find the directory to delete the images (if there even is one).
I've tried going to +Macintosh HD>Users>christianwilson>Library>Images>iChat Recent Pictures+ and deleting the pictures there. That only seems to make the images not appear when I click the thumbnail when viewing "Recent Pictures" on +System Preferences>Accounts+, but this does not delete the thumbnail.
In the directory I mentioned above a file exists called Recents.plist, if I delete that will it remove both the images and thumbnails from System Preferences?

set the picture to what you want, close system preferences and delete everything in the directory you mentioned (including the plist). then open system preferences. the recent pictures list should be empty.

  • Where to Locate Initial Setup Photo Booth Account Picture

My wife accidentally selected a different Photo Booth picture and set it to our account picture. She is now very upset because the initial picture was one she really liked and it was from Christmas morning... Anyway, the picture is not present in /Pictures/Photo Booth. Anyone know where else this might be located?

I don't know if this will help but open Accounts in *System Preferences*. Now choose the account the picture was with. Click the current picture on the little down arrow that appears when you do a mouse over and a drop down window will appear. Choose *Edit Picture*. At the top of the box you will see a choice that says *Recent Pictures*. Click it and see if the picture is still available there.
I checked this out and it stores at least 18 pictures here. I have four different snapshots that show here that were taken while trying to get a good one. Still trying:->

The default user account picture is stored here.
    C:\programdata\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\user.bmp
It should just be a matter have copying the picture you want to that location and over writing what is there.
    or....
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Control Panel\User Accounts\Apply the default user logon picture to all users
    You can also configure this by a registry setting;
     [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
      UseDefaultTile = 1
The picture that you configure, will not be loaded until the user account will actually be created on the pc. Meaning the first time a >new< user will log on to a pc, they will have no picture shown at all using their login screen (this is default
behavior). Same will occur if you enable the policy don't display last user name. However, once they log in the picture will be shown in the start menu, and if they lock their pc the image will also be shown

    Hello All,

  • Cannot change account picture after upgrading to Mountain Lion.

After upgrading to Mountain Lion from Snow Leopard I cannot change account picture anymore.
The box which is supposed to contain picture previews just says "No items".
    Screenshot attached:
This is not limited to a particular account, trying to change the picture within any account leads to this problem.
Is there any solution for the issue?
    Thank you in advance.

    Thank you for the answer.
Sure I can drag a photo to the users profile and it works but those Default ones were quite useful for having no mess with setting custom picture.
MacBook Pro with same Snow Leopard -> Mountain Lion upgrade did not have such issue.

  • How can I delete user account picture in Windows 8?

I have set my account picture, but now want to delete the pic and back to the default.
    How can I do it?

    Hello,
The userpic, the image tiles used for your account picture, is located, in different resolutions, in the following folder: C:\Users\Public\AccountPictures\%UserAccountSecurityIdentifier%
where %UserAccountSecurityIdentifier% is a placeholder for the Security IDentifier (SID) assigned by the operating system or domain controller to your user account.
Here is how it looks like:
NOTE: If your are using multiple account for login to your computer, like local Security Account Manager (SAM) account (standard account created and stored on your local PC in NTFS), your Microsoft Account (the one using internet account name provided
by Microsoft such as [email protected],
[email protected]), or an Active Directory account, please open root C:\Users\Public\AccountPictures\ folder and browse to the folder with the name of the SID assigned to your user account for which you want to change the user picture.
To find out what SID refers to what user account name used on your PC, proceed with the following:
Start the elevated command prompt by pressing WindowsKey+Q and typing
    cmd, then hitting Enter.
At the command prompt type: wmic useraccount get name, sid and press
    Enter.
This will return a table with all user accounts registered on this computer (that is those who had once logged onto this PC) and their corresponding SIDs.
    Now lookup this registry key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AccountPicture\Users
And locate the subkey (named correspondingly to the desired SID), then remove REG_SZ values that contain paths to the userpic images to remove traces of userpics.
WARNING: Please create new system restore point before making this registry change!
    Hope this helps.

  • Getting Problem In Changing The Account Picture.

No button is working. All the buttons on the screen are friezed. I have tried lot of ways but nothing is working.

    Hi,
For this issue, the only thing I can think now is that your version of Windows isn't activated correctly.
Can you check Control Panel\System and Security\Action Center\Windows Activation
You can get here by right clicking in the lower left hand corner, choosing "System" then clicking "View details in Windows Activation"
Meanwhile, please let us know your account. Local account or Microsoft account?
If your system has been activated, and then the issue still persists, please try using Microsoft account to change the account picture.

  • I cannot seem to change my account picture on OS 10.8. There is not option to "edit picture"

Under system preferences >  users and groups, i click on my account picture but there is no "edit picture" selectable. I can only choose the max default pictures or take a snapshot. How do I go about doing it? Is this a bug? Thanks!
    Norm

Not sure what you think you mean by "edit".
You can drang-and-drop a new picture into the well.
You can hit the Delete key to remove the pictiure after clicking on it.
You can click the downward pointing arrow, choose Recent, and then press the pencil button to change the zoom or centeringi of the existing picture.
