Account preferences

I know how to archive any mailbox.
but in mail/preferences/accounts how can i export all that definitions (Account information, Mailbox Behaviors, Advanced) and import in another machine the account definition?
best regards,
Paulo Guedes

That stuff should be in your ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
You may also want to copy over your ~/Library/Mail directory.

  • How can I delete old (non-active) email accounts that don't show in the Accounts Preferences pane?

Since I (reluctantly) abandoned MobileMe and switched to iCloud, when I use Mail Connection Doctor because a problem is indicated with one or more of my email acocunts, it shows both iCloud IMAP and Me.com SMTP accounts. The iCloud account is fine but the SMTP acount has a red button against it.
So Connection Doctor shows the old SMTP account always failing to connect (of course - as it's been abandoned). However, this account does not show up in the Accounts Preferences pane so I am not able to delete it. This also happens with another account which I deleted in the Preferences pane some time ago.
How can I stop these phantom accounts appearing in Connection Doctor? It's very irritating to constantly have faults indicated which apply to abandoned accounts.
    Thanks people!

Go to your iCloud account in Preferences>Accounts. Set the 'Outgoing mail server (SMTP)' drop-down menu to 'Edit SMTP server list'. Then:
Set the server name as shown here. Then click the Advanced tab and check the settings.
If you are still having problems, you could start the setup again from scratch. Assuming that your signature is correct and you are running Leopard, delete any iCloud or MobileMe accounts in the list and then follow the instructions here:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard

  • Mobile Account Preferences visible on Menubar for Network Accounts

On Mobile Accounts (setup with Profile Manager), acting as network account (home folder in server), the mobile account preferences are shown on the menubar. In addion, it says "last home sync" incomplete. Both are wrong according to my understanding.
However it makes sense - and it if the case - if the account is really working as mobile account with local home folder on a e.g. macbook.
Does anyone has the same issue?

I have the same issue. No fix yet.
One of my machines has joined the network and seems to be ok in almost every way...clearly with the exception of this way.
I will post if / when I find a solution.

You can use an add-on to set the zoom level for all sites. For example, [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/ NoSquint] and [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/default-fullzoom-level/ Default FullZoom Level].

  • Can't reset SMTP settings on account preferences - inactive/gray

    I hope you can help.
It looks like Mail was updated (great in theory, bad in practice), and now I can't send from Mail. I get the error message : "SMTP settings are not sete, please use Accounts Preferences panle to set SMTP options.
So, I dig out my incoming server, pop.mail.yahoo.com and my ourtiong mail SMTP server info: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
But when I go to Preferences/Accounts, it won't let me make any changes. All the fields are gray and inactive, except for "E-mail aliases" which I tried and nothing happened.
Help! All advice is greatly appreciated!
    Amy

    Amy,
First of all, I don't know what you mean by "Mail has updated"-- please explain? if you mean Mail has suddenly opened as though new, then you may have an issue with available free space on your hard drive, or if partitioned, on the boot partition. Check free space if this is what happened.
As for the grayed out entry info, it appears you proceeded into setting up the account in the Preferences with the Account Type set to .mac, which of course, is not what you would use for a Yahoo account.
    More info, please.

  • When setting up new godaddy pop mail account, I get this error: Internet Accounts preferences can't connect to the account

Trying to set-up new godaddy mail account. Walked through it with the godaddy rep, so the settings are correct. It is a pop account and I merely want it to function within Mail. (I have other accounts like it that work with no problem.) However, when I try to go online with the account, I get this error message: "Internet Accounts Preferences can't connect to the account..." It then prompts me to enter the password for the account and says it is "Unable to verify account or password."
Godaddy says it is an Apple Mail issue because the account works fine in their Workspace. I sent test messages and when I login at godaddy, the messages are there. However, for some reason, Mail won't connect to it. Any ideas?
Thank you. I'm running OS X, version 10.9.4.

Yes. The account is there. There's just a verification with password issue. I had to change my password at Godaddy to include caps, special character, etc., and reinstall the account. Then I had to tweet the settings a bit. But think I have it resolved. Thanks.

Unable to remove login items (Revert after reboot) iOX10.5 iMac
I am having issues and permanent encounter in having my removed login items reappearing after reboot. I have very MANY of the same programs in 'open at Login accounts' eg: Messenger,Safari,Skype,Evernote,Dropbox, antivirus, but they are listed dozens of times. in this 'open at login' area.
Here's the steps I have taken:
    1) Open Applications, Account Preferences, cluck my administrator acc, select program to delete, click on - and wait.
    2) Remove some login items (with or without unlocking the lock, doesn't seem make a difference, tried both)
    3) Login items are now fewer
    4) Reboot
    5) voila, the removed login items are still loaded and displayed in login item tab.
How does one solve this? Tried to google, but....

    Strange,but try these 2...

  • Error in internet accounts preferences pane

I recently had to delete my old Exchange account (moved servers) and when I tried to add it back, the Internet Accounts preference pane keeps on quitting every time I try and add a new email account.  I open the Internet Accounts preference pane, click on Exchange, type in the information, they computer searches, locates the account, then it just quits and goes back to the main Preference Pane. I have restarted, repaired permissions,  Anyone have any fixes. I need to get the account added ASAP!

After trying more things and searching the internet more, I found a solution:
"Here is what I did "So I attempted to setup the account in Preferences>Internet Accounts again but this time, I started the process with all of my internet connections disabled. So I disabled the wifi and ethernet adapters beforehand. Now, when after entering my info, and selecting continue instead of crashing it displayed a new window requesting that I manually enter the server address. I manually entered the server, reactivated my network connection, and selected continue, at which point it completed successfully."

  • Error in Internet Accounts preference pane

I recently updated my software to Mavericks. I'm trying to add an email account to Mail. When it begins to search the network for my email address, this Preferences Error pops up: There was an error in Internet Accounts preference pane. My other mail accounts were added prior to my software update, so that may have something to do with it. I've looked all over for answers and I'm pretty resourceful, so this is my last resort. I tried emptying my cache, but that didn't seem to do anything. Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

Hey there, I'm encountering the same problem, and this is what I got. I took away some private info, but I'm sorry if it's still coming out in a huge chunk. I don't think I can distinguish the lines that are relevant to solving this problem. Thanks!

  • HT201240 how to enable account preferences? it just show a blank window. Mac OS X version is 10.6.8

I cannot access account preferences, it only shows a blank window.

Run the OnyX > Verify > Preferences and locate the corrupt .plist file.
    #12 and #13 here
Step by Step to fix your Mac
It should be in your User/Library/Preferences folder, then place it on the Desktop and reboot, the file will be automatically recreated and system preferences accounts should work after that.
    Trash the bad desktop file.
If that doesn't work you will have to log into another Admin user on the machine, to recover your files out of the other user account and then do a #17 to delete and recreate the same user account.
If you don't have another Admin account on the machine, that presents some problems as System Preferences > Accounts is used to create another Admin user on the machine.

  • "Accounts" preference pane icon gone after 10.5.2 update

This weekend I realized that the Accounts preference pane icon is now missing from my system preferences. I checked my system/library/preferencepanes folder and the accounts.prefpane file is indeed not there. My login information is working fine; I just have no way to change any user information now. I have a feeling the 10.5.2 update has something to do with this.
Has anyone else noticed missing preference pane icons in their system preferences lately? Anyone know how to get the Accounts.prefPane back? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
That's odd. You may be able to repair this with the 10.5.2 Combo Update.
This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It has worked well for many.
Run Verify Disk in Disk Utility before update and Repair Permissions after.

  • Can't open "Accounts" preferences pane

I have a 1 week old iMac 27". When I open "System Preferences" and click on Accounts, first it says "To use the “Accounts” preferences pane, System Preferences must quit and reopen." I click OK and System Preferences opens in 32-bit and I get the message: "Could not load Accounts preference pane."
I've tried restarting and trashing com.apple.systempreferences.plist to no avail.

  • Can't acces Accounts Preferences

    Hi everyone
Here's a funny one for you.....
I've tried to access my user account setting lately, for the first time in years, and I can't open it.
Everything works fine in the System Preferences, except Accounts Prefs. When I click it a popup window first tells me that "to open accounts preferences, you must quit and re-open system preferences". The system preferences close, reopen automatically, and I get the message "Preferences Error; Unable to open the Accounts Preferences Pane".
Here are the messages this situation fires in the console:

Anybody has any idea how to fix that, other than reinstalling?
    Thanks!
    Dominique

I seem to be experiencing the same issue.  The mention of not being able to create new users got me thinking.
When I upgraded to Lion, I, somehow, got lockcked out of my account.  It kept prompting me to change the pass word but woud not recognise ANY of the passwords I used in the past.  After all the frustration, I decided to do a clean install of the OS and when I attempted to create an account with the username I needed, as some of my software licenses are account username specific. The same prompt appeared after restart AND it still would not accept the password.
The question now becomes, might the ~/Preferences/ folder issue be in the recovery partition?  I received the same error message after performing a virus scan using ClamXav.  I scanned my entire HD not just he one partition.
Is it possible that the issue is that some of the Preferences for the OS don't match those of the recovery partition?

  • Internet Accounts Preference pane corrupted after 10.9.5 update

After loading the 10.9.5 update I noticed that my Internet Accounts preferences pane in System Preferences is corrupted. The pane shows mostly blank, but will show graphic corruption if I move the window around. It has the list of accounts even though you cannot see them. If I click on the first account location my iCloud account shows up on the right. The list under it doesn't show, but it is also present. I have gone through and trashed a few plist files that look related. I tried most of the items related to problems in this area, but I have been unable to figure out what is causing this anomaly. The only other problem I have that is related is that if I try to create a new Mail account, the account type picker has the last item with a radio button, but no graphic. If I select it, it shows an example AOL address, but the rest of the text is not correct.
This is the add account pane in mail. I assume that last one is supposed to be AOL.
This is the pane that shows up when selecting the blank entry. It sort of looks like a foreign language without the right font.
I am going to try re-loading the combo pack upgrade for Mavericks to see if that can correct this. Any ideas are appreciated. Did 10.9.5 pull out the AOL option and just not do it right on my system?
Just found a related issue. Add Account in Contacts (need to add a directory account) doesn't do anything. I had a directory account during the upgrade, but removed all accounts and re-added all back except that one since I cannot.
    Thanks

I did the Safe Boot again and had the problem. I still have the problem after rebooting into normal mode. Looks like there is an uncaught exception when I select to add an account in the address book. There are similar uncaught exceptions when I got into the internet accounts preference pane as well.
