Accounts on Macbook

I have a Macbook and have two accounts on it.
When I power up the Macbook it loads up to the screens where you choose which account you want to logon too but next too my account there is a number in brackets next to it.
Can anyone explain what this is??

Did you ever (re-)create your user account using the same user name as before?
Anyway - launch System Preferences -> Accounts and check/correct "Full User Name"

For a stolen Macbook to appear in iCloud - the person who stole it must turn it on.
You can't track something that's turned off.

BT Yahoo e-mail Account and MacBook Pro

This is my very first post, so please be patient if this topic has:
1) Already been covered. The ones I have found seem a bit too technical for me (embarrassing!)
2) Shows I'm a bit of a novice
For a number of months now I have been happily plodding along with accessing both my AOL and BT Yahoo emails usingmy MacBook Pro. That was until last week when I noticed I was being prompted for a password for my BT Yahoo emailaddress. Upon entering my password, which I know to be correct, it came up with another message stating that it wasn'trecognised. I then uninstalled then reinstalled the BT Yahoo email account and am continuously getting the same issue. Iwill walk through when adding an account in the hope that someone may be able to thankfully help! Again, please excusemy novice walkthru. I am not the greatest expert when it comes to issues like this!
RE-INSTALLING BT YAHOO ACCOUNT
On MacBook, go to Mail, Preferences and click on the + to add a new email account.
Following fields are required: Full name, e-mail Address and Password. These are already detailed, apart from thepassword which is entered.
The following message is then displayed: Mail cannot send your password securely to the server. You cancontinue without a secured password, which could put your password at risk. Alternatively, you canmanually set up your account.Do you want to continue without a secured password?
If I click Continue the following message is displayed: Logging in to the Yahoo! POP server “mail.btinternet.com”failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If theinformation isn’t correct, you cannot receive messages.
If I proceed and click Continue again, the Incoming Mail Server screen appears with the following completed fieldscompleted as follows:
Account Type: POP
Description: btinternet.com
Incoming Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com
User Name: ******@btinternet.com
Password: *********
6. Upon clicking Continue again, the Incoming Mail Security screen appears, with:
An unticked option labelled: Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
A dropdown menu which is automatically set to: Password. Additional options from this dropdown are External(TLS Client Certificate), Kerberos Version 5 (GSSAPI), NTLM, MD5 Challenge-Response and AuthenticatedPOP (APOP)
7. When I continue with the SSL option ticked and Authentication defaulting to Password the Outgoing Mail   Server screen appears with the following options:
Description: btinternet.com
Outgoing Mail Server: mail.btinternet.com (other drop down options is: smtp.mail.yahoo.com relating to thisemail account)
Ticked option of Use Only This Server
Ticked option of Use Authentication
User Name: ******@btinternet.com
Password: *********
8. When I Continue, the Outgoing Mail Security screen appears, with the Secure Sockets option ticked and the   Authentication dropdown displayed with Password.
9. I click Continue again and a summary of the above appears. I click Continue, then it looks as if my email account is   being set up. However, the following message then appears: Enter password for Account "btinternet.com".
The Yahoo! POP server “mail.btinternet.com” rejected the password for user “******@btinternet.com”
Enter your password again or cancel.
The above isn't the only issue though. Unfortunately I seem to be missing all of my subfolders under this emailaddress. Prior to the problem I encountered above, all of my sub email folders were in line with BT Yahoo and theadditional devices I use to retrieve/check my email.
PLEEEEEEEEEAAAAASE could someone help me? A very basic walkthru would be much appreciated! Not only is my concernthat I cannot get my BT Yahoo email on my MacBook, but also my sub-folders.

Lion Server Mobile accounts for Macbook users

Hi All,
I'm looking for a 'Best Practice' when setting up mobile accounts for Macbook users who just want to be able to use their machine away from the office.
We DON'T want to sync anything, just create a mobile account on the Mac (a bit like a domain profile on a PC).
I understand that this can be configured through workgroup manager in preferences for either the machine or the user account.
What should the mobility settings be set to? Obviously the Account creation box is ticked but what should the 'Create home using' settings be ?

I figured out how to delete the user from the command line.
I used Remote Desktop to send as Root: dscl . -delete /Users/userID
Where userID is the user's shortname.
You could also log in locally and use the terminal to send:
sudo dscl . -delete /Users/userID

Two accounts on MacBook

Hi,
I'm buying MacBook to my daughter (I will not use that Mac at all) . I already has iMac with lot of purchased apps with my Apple ID. My plan is to open two accounts on MacBook, both with administrator rights.
My plan is to install all apps which my daughter needs through my account with my Apple ID.
So, I have two questions:
1. how to set my account so she can only have access to purchased apps, and not my iCloud data? (not to sign in to my iCloud account?)
2. when she is on her account and AppStore app says "you have an update of some app", does she needs to fill my Apple ID and password every time (and call me every time to update for her), or it can be managed some way that I don't need to do every time.
My basic intention is to automate update process somehow without giving her my Apple ID password.

Yes You are right, she is 16-years old, and this is for school.
As I understand you, she can't update installed (with my Apple ID and pass) apps from her account. I always have to be "around" to update some apps which are already installed through her's account, or to log in on my account?
I'm asking because on my iMac when I like to reinstall or update some previously purchased app, I's not neccessery to use my Apple ID and password everytime. Only in time of purchase. And I don't like idea to give her my Apple ID and password. But if I have to, OK.
In our case it isn't metter of trust, it's just metter of my privacy (iCloud mail and other private things cooonected to Apple ID).
Do you have some ideas or other solutions for updating apps in this situation?

One user account on Macbook Pro is painfully slow

We have 2 user accounts on our 2011 Macbook Pro. My user account is extremely slow when doing everything from opening apps to using the net and the colourful spinning wheel is driving me nuts! iPhoto is one of the worst and is something I use quite a bit. There were a lot of photos on there most of which have since been moved to an external hard drive to free up space on the hard drive however it is still incredibly slow even when flicking between photos and editing photos is worse. When using Safari even trying to type something in the subject line brings up the spinning wheel, let alone trying to scroll down a page once it finally loads!   The other account works fine and doesn't seem to be affected. Please help!

What is the best way forward to get everything into the one account? Not sure if the office 365 will allow another installation into the second account, otherwise would just do that and delete the first, if that is possible?

There is no merge but you can move data from one account to another via the Shared folder. Data is copied from Shared. Watch your free space when copying. These are large files. Do one at a time if you are on a small drive. After making copy, delete from other users before you start next copy.
Office365 installs in the main Applications folder and is available for all users on the computer. Activation is tied to the drive not the User.

How do i separate 2 different contact lists from 2 iphones that is synced to the same account and macbook?

I just bought an iphone 4s while my wife has already been using an iphone 4s for months. I wish to sync my iphone to the same macbook(account) as my wife's iphone as we use the same apps and listen to the same music. But we would like to have separate contacts as i do not want my wife's contacts in my iphone and neither does she want mine in hers. How can i separate them? And if i add new contacts to my iphone, how can i maintain separating them whenever i sync in the future?

i have 2 separate IDs and also 2 separate itunes library hoping the contacts won't sync and mix together but both libraries only syncs from/to the same address book in my MBP. i cant separate the separate the contacts in the address book unless i manually move our hundreds of of contacts into different groups then sync from only my group.... but thats just too much... any easier way?

I have been trying to add a hotmail account on my new MacBook Air without success - searched on the net for 2 evenings now and still no success! I finally found a way.. I've installed the application on my App store account from an other computer (where this app was not installed..) . The application has now disappeared from my MBP.

My wife set up her iPhone up on her account on our Macbook, but all of our music is in my account. i want to put music on her iPhone, but iTunes warns that all content on her phone will be lost if add music manually. She has no music on there, but has apps. Will they be erased? if so, is there a way around this. I don't want to copy all of the music over to her account as that would, it seems, double the HD space used...

Because you have separate accounts, if you try & sync her phone to your itunes account, yes ALL itunes content(including apps) will first be erased from her phone & then replaced with the content from your library.
What you can do is this: Put all of the content you want on her phone on your phone, from your account. Sign in to her itunes account, disable auto sync, under preferences. Connect your phone, DO NOT SYNC, sign your wife out of her account, sign in to your account , Store>Authorize this Computer, then>File Transfer Purchases(all itunes purchased content on your phone will be transferred to her account, music ripped on your own, won't). For music ripped on your own, use a thumb drive to copy to her account. Once finished, sign out of your account, sign your wife back in & sync what you want to her phone.
I should add, you can share apps, music, etc. between each other using this method both ways: you sharing with your wife, her sharing with you. Sharing of content this way is permitted under the EUSLA.

My wife and I each just purchased iphones. We each have our own itunes accounts, We share a Macbook at home.
We would like to share our music and soon our apps so we don't have to pay twice. Can we do this and if so, how?
Also, I enabled home sharing as our itunes accounts were originally on different computers. Do I chech the option that says "transfer"?
