ACD Cable Extension

Soes anyone know if a standard DVI dual link extension cable (such as this one http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat%5fid=3315&sku=29530) will work with the 30" ACD? Or is Apple's cabling proprietary?

Apple uses standard dual-link DVI, but long cables can cause problems. From your link:
"Note: DVI-D (digital) has a length limitation of 5 meters."
When you add the length of the cable attached to the Apple display, you will be over that limit, and may need a signal amplifier. Even if the total length were within the limit, the extra connecters can degrade the signal and cause problems.
Gefen sells DVI boosters, and extension cables, and complete extension kits

  • Thunderbolt cable extension

we are searching for a thunderbolt cable extension of aprox. 4m (meters) = 13,12 feet to connect mac mini (late 12) with 27" thunderboltdisplay. also for a mac book pro 15" retina (early 13) with a 27" thunderbolt display. apple does not produce a cable which is longer than 2m, just as they don't produce a thunderbolt cable extension, just as they don't produce a socket connection to chain two thunderbolt cables.
    any idea?

  • Cable extension for 24" Apple Cinema Display

Hi, Anyone have issues with Dr Botts Extension cable for the 24" Apple Cinema Display? Thanks

It is around two feet long. I would not have a problem with this if I could extend it or Apple had adopted the standard cable with female connector on the display so I could purchase a longer cable. Apple has a long history of slipping into proprietary solutions that are often good (e.g., magsafe on MacBook) but tend to cramp ones ability to come up with solutions they have not thought of.
There are a growing number of m-m cables that would work from various vendors like Belkin, but I have found no extenders from Apple or any other vendor.
As to the monitor itself, I LOVE it. I am sure there will be a solution eventually. I have the new Mac Pro and monitor on the kitchen counter. Not sure how long my wife's patience will last.

  • Apple AV composite cable & extension cable

    Hi everyone,
Please can anyone help me with my problem?
I went to the apple store and bought the official AV composite cable 30 pin for my device.
    It's working perfectly BUT ...
When I'n connecting my device to the AV cable via an extension cord (1 meter), image will not show at all and I have no sound...
    Working scenario :
device ---> Apple AV original cable  ---> TV
    Non working scenario :
device ---> third party extension cable ---> Apple AV original cable  ---> TV
    Any idea?
    extension cable is new...
    THANKS !!

Hi Lyssa, well that was my first guess indeed but yesterday I managed to make it work ...
Done nothing special but connecting and disconnecting the cable again and again...
I think the quality of the extension cable is to be considered. I have ordered another one...
So to my question : could we use an extension cable and an apple AV composite out cable : answer is YES !
    Thanks for the help!

  • VGA cable extension -or- extending the reach of Solaris

I purchased a 15ft TRIPP LITE VGA monitor extension cable. This cable does not work with Solaris 10, but does work with Windows! The Solaris graphical interface does not want to load with the extension cable in place.
Why? And what can I do about the situation. Will a Gefen VGA through coax solution work with Solaris? Or is there another way to do this?
Helping me figure out how to move a Solaris computer a few feet away from my desk will help save my hearing.

I would love to create a connection from the router to my computer. I don't need or want it to be wireless. It's not like I'm hauling this computer around the house, and there is a cat 5 jack about 1 foot from my computer. Any idea how this is done? Even in theory?
We have Comcast hi-speed internet and they offer "home networking" wired or wireless but unfortunately "At this time, Comcast Home Networking does not support Macintosh computers." (you have to dig pretty deep to find that out). I have no real concept of how the cat 5 wiring and the highspeed internet work together.

  • VGA cable extension causing resolution problems

Pavilion 6507c with HP 2010i monitor, Windows 7 64-bit.  I am trying to separate the CPU and monitor by a few feet more than the original  6' VGA cable allows.  Have tried an extension plus original, and also a single longer cable. With anything but the short original cable, the computer no longer recognizes the monitor - it shows it as Generic non-PnP, and will not allow 1600:900, so the picture is stretched. Re-installed 2010i drivers - still comes up generic.
Is there any way to extend the monitor distance without sacrificing proper resolution?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I wouldn't be too concerned about receiving a no signal message when shutting the PC down.  With a longer cable, the signal may degrade sooner causing the no signal message to appear during the shutdown process.
Displays work by the monitor sending the EDID information to the PC and this is part of how the PC identifies what resolutions are available to this monitor.  The original cable is allowing this information to be sent from the monitor back to the PC.  The PC then retains this information which is what allows it to work with the longer cable after swapping out the 6' VGA cable for a longer or extended one.  Once the system is shutdown, the EDID information is lost.  This is why it doesn't work once the system is shutdown and started with an extended or long cable.
You did mention an important difference between the cables: the lack of a ferrite core.  This Wikipedia entry discusses ferrite beads (aka: ferrite core) and what use they have.  Essentially, it reduces the level of interference which could cause the EDID information to be lost before reaching the PC.  This is more noticeable when using a long cable, so this could be due to the lack of the ferrite core.  However, the adapter listed in my previous post should rectify the resolution issue (though, it would still be listed as a generic PnP monitor).
I would weigh the cost of a cable with the ferrite core against the cost of getting an EDID emulator and select the cheaper option.  I know an EDID emulator will rectify this issue, but I cannot say that getting a cable with the ferrite core will correct this issue with 100% certainty.  I do know not having a ferrite core can cause signal quality issues.  If you can still exchange the cables, then that may be the cheaper option.
    Let me know what happens.

  • Video out cable extension

I have the video out cables for the iPod which, due to the recessed hole in the iPhone, wont fit. I dont mind buying a new one for my home, the only trouble is that I have one installed into my car entertainment system. The plug goes into the back of my pioneer headunits "brain" which is located behind the dashboard. Not easy at all to replace, I would truly like to avoid it.
As an alternative, does anyone know of, or have a good idea of, an extension cable that can be used to carry the video signal? This way I dont have to replace the cable, I can just use something similiar to the belkin adapter that Apple sells.
Hmm. Wonder if that belkin adapter was made knowing that the video out was going to be enabled eventually... Any ideas?

You need to purchase the new apple component AV cables. The old av cables that go into the headphone jack no longer work for the new ipods and iphone. The new apple component av cables are now connected through dock connector.
I went to the apple store today and got the new Apple AV component cables, went home and plugged my phone. The cables are huge, 5 connections (component), a doc, and usb plug. You can not separate the cables at all. You also get a second charger.
All the videos that i have on my phone are my own encoded videos. They are 640x480 at 700kbps-900Kbps with 2 pass encoding. Audio at 140-160kbps.
So quality, I had my phone plugged into a standard TV. 750kbps and below is not bad but you can see some pixelation around objects from time to time. Everything above 800kbps looks as if the movie was being played from dvd. Aspect ratio is retained and everything looks pretty awesome. Controls for the movie are from the iphone. Audio is pretty good as well.
I will try connecting to my GF's HD tv and see what happens.

  • Power Cable extensions

While normal IEC extension cables fit into Macs, does anyone know if you can buy cables with the extra rectangular plastic as supplied with Macs?
I've recently heard that UPS manufacturers only cover equipment damage if plugged directly into the IEC sockets. However, I have tended to use power strips so that I can plug the Apple supplied cable (with 3 pin UK plug) into a 3-pin UK socket, which then goes into the UPS.
One factor which makes me reluctant to use a standard IEC extension cable is that they don't make as secure fit as the proper Apple cables - and I'm worried that despite being attached to a UPS, the cable is more likely to come loose or get pulled out by accident.

Check with the manufacturer about that. It's not the case with any of them that I've ever run into. Most UPS manufacturers recommend extra power line filtering for your equipment, and sell power distribution units, which would make it impossible to plug your IEC power cord directly into the UPS anyway. I think you're worried unnecessarily.

  • USB Cable Extension?

OK, while at the office, I cannot hook my iPod USB charger cable to the PC (PC is THAT old). If I buy a USB extension to put between the iPod cable and the AC wall adapter, will it still work OK?
I want to be able to plug it in when watching video at the office.

    Absolutely!

Cable Optional ? Maybe The Whole Motherboard Is Optional  :D !!  Everything MSI Sells Is Optional!
May I Suggest That Someone At MSI Mention To THe Sales Dept. It WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO SELL A MOTHERBOARD KIT LOADED! (We End Users Would Gladly Pay Alittle More, Instead Of Treasure Hunting For These So Called Optional Items!   )
Anayway... I Had To Make My Own Out Of Two CD Drive Sound Cables ( 2 Of The Black Thin Ones Work Fine)
But If You Want The Better Cable That Fits Better Its A Regular 4+3Pin Extension Ribbon A Local Computer Store Probably Will Have One. (Bring Your MSI Motherboard Manual With You If You Want To Show Them What The Heck Your Talking About)  If Not Theres Always E-BAY!

  • Inspire 5200 - Cable Extension and Switch Box

Hello, I am looking for the Inspire 5200 cable (green, black, pink), which can be used to extend the default wire that comes with the product.
    1) Is it possible to get a connector which can be used to extend this cable?
    2) I have connected my 5.1 speakers to my Philips DVD Player - its working great. Can I get a switch (something like the keyboard/monitor/video switch box) to connect both PC and DVD Player?
    Thank you.

  • Dock Cable Extension

Got an 80gb iPod classic, a case, and Quicksilver portable speakers for Christmas. Lucky me! My problem is this -- it is difficult to take the iPod out of the case, and I have to take it out of the case to use the dock connector with the Quicksilver speakers. So, in order to keep the iPod in the case and connect with the speakers, is there any sort of a "two ended" dock connector on the market? In other words, I need a dock connector to the iPod with a cable and another dock connector to the speakers. In this way I won't have to take the iPod out of the case. Does such a thing exist or is there another solution to my problem?

  • Iphone 4 not being recognized with the extension cable

My Iphone 4 is not being recognized with the Apple extension cable in my new Nissan Juke so the phone has to be kept in the glovebox due to the very short cable Nissan provides. This is frustrating since the phone gets noticeably worse reception in the glovebox. Does anyone know of a fix for this so I can run a longer cable extension and run the phone out of the glovebox? Mabye a different extension cable or longer cable that works with Nissan's set up?

I don't think it is the cable. I have tried plugging the cable into the USB cable that came with the phone and the extension cable works fine with it. I guess this really is just some screwy stuff with Nissan.

  • USB extension cables

My iPhone 3g does not connect to my Mac mini when I use a +high speed+ USB 2.0 extension cable with my iphone dock. Why?
It does not charge it does not sync the computer does not 'see' it.
Is there ANY +USB cable extension+ that will allow me to connect my iphone dock and sync, charge etc?!?

The fatter the better when it comes to extension cables. Also be wary of long cables which might induce a voltage drop.
I have a 5 foot cable that is fine. Its much fatter than the cable on the iPhone sync cable. I also have a real thin one which does not work at all.

  • Is there a Lightning to Lightning cable ?

I have a charger with a lightning connection, but the phone case that my spouse uses prevents setting the iPhone5 on top of it.  I need a cable with a female lightning jack to a male lightning plug (and the male plug can't be any larger than the normal charger plug).  Searches in Apple, Amazon, Google, etc, have not yielded any direct Lightning to Lightning cable.  Am I looking for the correct cable / using the correct terminology (I saw something called thunderbolt with a female side, but couldn't tell if it pairs up with lightning) ?
