Aceeca 64 bit driver w/ Palm Desktop OS 4.2 & Windows OS 8.1

I was able to Hotsync, using USB, with my Palm TX for the first time on my Windows 8.1 laptop using Aceeca 64 bit driver. I love my Palm TX, and I can now use it again with my PC.
However, when I Hotsync, I get one shot and then a reboot is required in order to repeat.  Upon reboot, I receive the Windows message "The selected port, COM1, is not available at this time.  Hotsync Manager will open port when it becomes available".  The Hotsync icon appears in the notification area, and I am able to Hotsync.  Then the icon vanishes, and I have to start the process over again--reboot.
Is there something I can do so I don't have to reboot my computer for every Hotsync?

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I would suggest you try looking at the manufacturer's website for the dongle.

  • 64 bit Vista and Palm Desktop...

    Wow! I've spent hours on the forum and the web because my new laptop has 64 bit Vista (and is a tablet as well). I'm a long, long time fan of the Palm having had an original US Robotics Palm Pro (in fact I still have it and the original box!) I've gone through several iterations and currently own a Sprint 700p -all this time I've been using the Palm Desktop and have loads of notes, contacts, etc. I love the Palm Desktop as a simple way to keep all my personal info together in an easy to access format.
    Now I understand that 64 bit Vista won't sink via the USB but that there are solutions to synch with either IR or Bluetooth (fine, but you lose the ability to power up the 700p -guess I'll have to find the power plug). However, what doesn't seem to be clear is which version of Palm Desktop should I install on 64 bit Vista?
    What happens if I load 4.1.4E under 64 bit Vista or should I use 6.2? I understand 6.2 is missing some features. Would be curious what others have experienced.
    Thanks in advance for your thoughts, inputs, experiences, and opinions!
    Just food for thought... if I can't find a solution that I like; I might just keep my old Dell laptop with XP running and terminal into it from my new tablet. Kind of silly, but what else do you do with an old laptop? Only problem is, I wouldn't have access to it when on the road without having to configure my router and an internet connection; but in theory I should have all my data on the 700p when out of the house.

    Just to add on to what legendeld said:
    Syncing will work fine in either solution, but I'd actually recommend using 6.2 for two main reasons. The first is that certain functions of 4.1 don't work in Vista. These include the Install Tool for adding files/apps to your device and the help files.
    The second reason is that Bluetooth setup in 6.2 is much easier. In 4.1, you have to create a Bluetooth serial port and then set HotSync to scan that port for incomming connections. 6.2 simply gives youa Bluetooth connection option (as long as Vista recognizes your adapter).
    Creating a serial port is pretty easy with most Bluetooth implementations, so you can still go the 4.1 route. But you won't be able to use the Install Tool if you do.

  • Migrating from palm desktop 4.2 for windows to ical

    Hi,
    I am attempting to migrate my calendar and task information from my palm desktop 4.2 software on a windows xp machine to my brand-spankin' new iMac. The calendar file export type doesn't import into ical. I'm not even sure which application the task(to-do list) and memo(notes) data from palm desktop would be most appropriate to import into on the iMac, but I would like to migrate that data, too.
    I did successfully migrate my contacts info from Palm Desktop into the Address Book on my IMac. Hooray!
    any help is appreciated.
    thanks.

    Exporting Palm Calendar (Date Book): you should have in the Export dialog box the option of changing the export format from "Palm Desktop" to "vCal".
    vCal (.vcs) files will import into iCal. You can also bring them into Entourage (not through the Import dialog box, but by dragging the .vcs file onto the Entourage icon in the dock).
    You will almost certainly lose category information, if you were using any.
    Exporting Palm Addresses: choose the vCard format, which Apple's Address Book will recognise (ditto Entourage if you take that option). But I see you've succeeded with that part.
    Exporting Tasks: this gets tricky as Apple doesn't have a stand alone tasks or to do app and the to do function in iCal is a bit underwhelming. You'll be able to export Palm Tasks in "Tab & Return" format, which means you could open them in a word processing or spreadsheet program. I doubt you'd be able to get them into iCal with any ease. You may have better luck importing tasks into Entourage, which does have a proper Tasks function, but that's not something I've tried to do.
    Exporting Notes/Memo: as with Tasks, your option is using the "Tab & Return" format. You may need a 3rd-party notes program if you don't want to use Entourage Notes.

  • Palm m500, Palm Desktop 4.1.4e, Windows 7 (32bit) - Look-up to go to a particular Contact is not working

    I hope I am posting to the most appropriate area!
    My contacts appear to be fine. When I try to type in a letter in the look-up box to bring me to the contact name, it does not go to the correct letter I type in.
    My keyboard types the correct letter in the look-up box but it does not take me to the contacts that start with that letter.
    I tried 4.1.4 (no e) and found the same problem. I ran the palmhotsyncsetup.exe and it appears that all of the contacts synced.
    I am frustrated so any direction would be appreciated.

    I am also having the same trouble.  Using Palm Desktop 6.2.2 by Access on two Win 7 compters that as far as I know are the same.  Using a Treo 655p between the two computers, sync working perfectly with bluetooth.  In Contacts on one computer the lookup works perfectly, yet on the other computer the lookup which used to work began to bring up its own selection of contacts regardless of what I put in the lookup field.  This problem was mentioned in the forum 11-12-2009 by Laurentiu but as fare as I could find was ignored.  I even exported the contacts from the working machine, created a new user on the non-working machine and then imported the contacts and it still fails.  I was hoping that doing this would regenerate the index, but that does not seem to be the problem either.
    This seems to be either a problem relating to the Palm Desktop itself or maybe an add-in of some sorts, I wonder if I will need to re-install?  Interesting (and good) that the other computer continues to work fine.

    Palm Desktop crashes on startup since I updated Windows XP (yesterday). Sounds like your data has been corrupted, possibly your calendar,
    There is a few things to try.
    1. If your default calendar view is the month, I would do this step first. Change your date on your computer to two months in the future or past, then try to relaunch palm desktop. Let me know if it launches and I will tell you how to fix that.
    2. If your default calendar view is not the month, the do this step. Locate your user folder it is in my documents/palm os desktop/variation of hotsync id
    Once you find the hotsync id folder. Grab that and move it to your desktop so it is no longer in the palm os desktop folder. Then try to relaunch palm desktop
    Let me know if either one of these steps let you open palm desktop then we will go into fixing them.

    If you mean when the little alarm app crashes, can you restart it manually after it exits? Of course. It should be in Start > All Programs > Startup > Alarm Manager (Or something like that, at least if you're in XP.) In XP, it should be in %InstallDir%\Palm\AlarmManager.exe.

    Zire 71 w/Palm os 5.2.1.  Just upgraded to Windows 7.  Is there any Palm Desktop that i can download to continue using my Zire?  Had 4.1 but could not get HotSync to work.  Not crazy about 6.2, but will take at this point if i can find to download.  Thanks.

        Palm wrote there desktop software for Windows 32bit. You need the Aceeca 64bit Windows driver for Palm desktop. If you have loaded and unloaded several different versions of the Palm desktop trying to get things to work you will also need to do a clean uninstall of the Palm desktop software, so everything will work properly. I would first try the Palm desktop version that you have installed on your computer and follow the directions given in the sticky post I have linked. Post back for more info if needed.

  • Palm Desktop Will Not Launch In Windows 7

    Well, I may have a new wrinkle in the ongoing saga of Windows 7 - Palm problems.  I just loaded the Palm Desktop program to my Windows 7 32-Bit OS and then I did a Hotsync which according to the Palm Sync Manager went fine.  When I try to launch the Palm Desktop program on my computer I get the Windows message asking if I want to authorize the changes and when I click OK all I get is the Palm Desktop splash screen and then the program hangs up and just sits there.  I can launch other programs over top of the Palm Desktop program and my computer appears fine but the Palm Desktop program just will not complete its launch.  I guess it could be said that we have a "Failure To Launch".
    Has anyone encountered this and do they have a fix?  Like so many people in these Forums I have been using Palm products for a long time and can't see not having one.  Thanks.
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

    This is an update to my previous post of earlier today.
    I was able, after a lot of messing around and wasted time, to get my Palm to sync with my Windows 7 32-Bit OS.  I got a Palm error message telling me that "Not all data was backed up".  I absolutely hate the look and feel of the new 6.2.2 Palm Desktop.  It is extremely hard on the eyes and the print is so tiny it is just about uinreadable.
    There is also a problem, with both the Lookup and Find functions in the Palm Desktop.  Neither of them work.  Whenever I try to do a search in Contacts the program locates something totally different than what I wanted ie:  search for Bradley and the program goes to Kimnach.  The Find function is just as useless, when I try to use it nothing happens and the program just sits there doing absolutely nothing.
    Palm and Palm Pilots used to be good but now they are just another loser who couldn't make it.  I completely understand why Palm was noit able to make it, they simply didn't have a clue in the world and their users paid a price for their stupidity and failure to innovate big time.  If I didn't have so much at stake in terms of data I would pitch my Palm into the shredder and walk away from the whole mess that is Palm.
    If anyone else has run into this mess and knows of a fix or a workaround please feel free to share it.  Thanks!

    Any idea what I can do to get this progarm to load on my new computer?
    Post relates to: Tungsten T2

    Try to "clean" uninstall PD and re-install 6.2. 6.2 has data loss issues, FYI. You can export the data to backup and if the data is lost, import the data to recover.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to Start --> Documents -->
    Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and
    copy. Then go to your PC desktop right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer.
    Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below.
    C:\Program Files\Palm or Palm One
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or
    PalmOne
    C:\Users\[Vista Login Name]\appdata
    *Note you may need to view hidden folders to get to appdata. To do that go
    into your control panel and open folder options. Go to view tab and uncheck
    hide hidden files.
    Once this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your PC Operating System.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to delete. To make sure we have a good copy of the current registry, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    Go to start on the PC, in the search field type "regedit.exe" without quotes.
    Highlight COMPUTER, go to File --> Export. Should pop up with a Save As box.
    Current location is fine, should be in My Documents or save to a location you will remember. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer.
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right corner of the hotsync screen.
    The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a separate folder on your PC.
    Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://kb.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/kb2/common/article/28734_en.html
    Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
    With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
    Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
    With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
    For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.hpwebos.com webpage.

  • Hard drives appear on desktop, but are inaccessible

    Hi.
    I recently bought a 17' macbook pro 2.6. I previously had a g4 with four hard drives in it, so I took a couple of them out and put them in external cases. I also have a few external hard drives that were always externals (never in the g4).
    The problem I have is that I cannot access one of the formerly internal hard drives. It appears in disk utility and I verified it and there was a minor repair needed (I forget what), so I used the repair function and nothing has changed. The drive icon appears on the desktop, but not under "devices" in the finder window. When I double click on the drive on the desktop, any open finder windows disappear for a few seconds, then reappear, but the drive does not open.
    The same thing happens about half of the time with another external drive that was always an external drive. The strange thing is that, even if I can't open the drive, iTunes can access the music files and library on that drive. These drives work fine on my wife's macbook (2.16, running 10.4).
    And as if that weren't strange enough, about half of the times that I select "documents" from the "places" menu in the finder window, the same thing happens (finder windows disappear for a few seconds and the documents folder doesn't open), yet I can access my documents folder through my home folder.
    The other drive I pulled from my g4 is currently my time machine drive and has no similar problems. Two other external drives also have no problems.
    Does this ring any bells?
    Thanks,
    Bruce
