Acer aspire ES1-111 issues

Hi all,I decided to register in this community in order to get some advice and opinion about issues I'm experiencing with this laptop. I'm an owner of an Acer Aspire ES1-111 which I bought a week ago. Since its first configuration I noticed problems using it with windows 8.1 (its native OS). For example touchpad or keyboard not working properly and, most of all, shutdown problems. In this particular case I was never able to shutdown properly the device, because it either freezed or remained with the power indicator that continued being "on" although it seemed that the system was shutdown. However, in order to really shutdown I had to press power button. Firstly I decided to reset the system with the integrated software eRecovery but problems remained. Secondly I decided to do a clean install of the operating system and I tried both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. In both cases, installation process finished without problems but when trying installing all drivers I experienced freezes and again shutdown problems. I followed an order to install drivers (Chipset first, than VGA etc), but in most of cases I had the aformentioned issues. I also tried disabling "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" to no avail.  But now comes the strange part... I finally decided to give a try to Windows 7 and, to my surprise, everything is working fine! I was able to install drivers properly and to shutdown or restart my notebook without problems. Now I'm using it with Windows 7, but, as it is in warranty, I would like to ask you what do you think about this issues.  I find quite strange that a notebook isn't working properly with its native OS but it's fine with an old OS!! Do you think I should send it to Acer assistance or ask to change it (although, I don't know if I'm still able to pursue this second option). Thanks for your attention! Mic

Bios was set to UEFI when I bought the notebook. System was very slow on its first configuration, probably due to all the third part softwares installed. Also the hdd was not partitioned, something I didn't like. So, after a reset with Acer eRecovery software that didn't solved the slowness of the system, I decided for a clean install with a Windows 8.1 bootable usb stick I had. And, in order to select the boot order desired, I had to change bios mode from UEFI to LEGACY. But, I think that this step was not the best option for a notebook that has a native UEFI bios, as my struggles showed. So, after some research, I decided to reset bios to UEFI, create a usb bootable stick that was compatible with UEFI (through RUFUS software) and run again installation process of Windows 8.1. And this time, all steps were done automatically and without problems. System is far more usable now. Yes, I lost the eRecovery partition, but I can alwasys use the one that the new installation has created.

For the last couple of days I've been trying to install Windows 7 64-bit on my new ACER Aspire E15 [es1-511-c83x] that came with Windows 8.1  preinstalled. It  supports UEFI and LEGACY boot options settings in BIOS utility.   When I try to boot it from the Win 7 DVD it’s hanging on “Starting Windows”  logo screen after the files are loaded and the system is halted.I tried to run it in “Safe mode with Command prompt” and it stops at:
    Loading Windows Files:
    Loaded: ...\system32\drivers\disk.sys
When I start the installation from Win 8.1 interface and choose disk partition that was created with Win 8.1 I’m getting this message:
“The partitions on the disk selected for installation are not in recommended order. For additional information about installing to GPT disks go to the Microsoft website and search for GPT. Do you want to proceed with installation?”
If I go ahead it’s hanging again on “Loaded: ...\system32\drivers\disk.sys” after the system is rebooted.
I want to install windows 7 along with my Win8.1 with UEFI and GPT. I thing from windows 7, these configuration will work.
Do I have any other options?

  • Acer Aspire 7750g driver issue.

    Hello everyone,
I own an Acer Aspire 7750g-2636G75Mnkk
Recently i updated to Windows 10 but i found out that my AMD Radeon 6650M is not supported, so i switched back to windows 7 with the Back up disc i made with the factory settings.
So i tried to update everything, i used the AMD auto detect tool and it did install to the newest 15.7 driver. After the restart i got horizontal black lines flickering over my screen so i uninstalled it and went back to the factory driver.
Went to the acer site for driver download and i saw there was a "newer" version available. (8.901.4.0).
So i uninstalled the factory one(8.822.0.0) and installed this one. But the installer said when it was done that there were some problems. I checked the log but everything was succesfully installed.
After the restart everything went good until after the login screen. Screen was black with green, i could barely see anything.
Tried to plug HDMI cable into my TV.
Tv screen is normal but laptop screen is still black and green.
So i uninstalled that one again and went back with the factory one. (8.822.0.0)
I am now running into compatibility issues, i can start a program but it closes right after. I can only start it when i put Windows 7 manually in the compatibility mode.
Even some games say my drivers are outdated.
When i do 64bit DxDiag, it says program stopped working. Started it again and it said it had problems accessing the Direct3D. If i don't skip this step, it stops working. But if i do skip it, it runs but when i check the Screen tab, there is nothing. Not even a driver detected.
I can't even open Catalyst Control Center because it says program stopped working and has been shutdown.
I have updated my BIOS to the latest version Acer gave me V1.21
Oh, and i also downloaded all the updates from Windows Update.
I tried different kind of Catalyst Control Center Suites(mostly the same as the newest driver 15.7, horizontal black lines flickering over the whole screen)
    So now im stuck.
Someone got an idea on how to fix this?

Hello Guys, Even I had a similar problem. I was planning to take it to service center. But just wanted to try once more so searched in the community and got this thread. My situation is I changed my RAM 2 months ago from 3GB to 8GB on my 5830TG. It was working fine till last couple of weeks until I made one change in BIOS setting and then I tried rebooting then I don't get any screen. my Hardisk looks like it was running. I never got to BIOS screen at all. I got scared & din't know what to do. After reading this post I replaced my new ram with the old once which I had it with me. My laptop booted properly. Then I removed the old ones & added both the new RAM's then the laptop did not boot. Suspecting that one of the RAM must have gone non functional I tried one by one. Both worked fine. Finally I had to insert the RAM properly. Insert it little hard so that it sat fine in the slot. I also reset my BIOS just in case. Great post guys, it helped my try once. You don't know how much time and money I saved :-) Thanks a ton.

I purchased a Acer Aspire 5560g yesterday second hand , lappy worked great. Was updating all the drivers one of which was the BIOS. The install went through and then upon reboot the machine Black Screened. No HDD activity no display. Just a solid Blue light on front bezel fan running. Connected to external monitor and still nothing. From all Ive read it sounds like the BIOS installed hosed. Can someone PLEASE give me a good step by step on how to reflash the BIOS on this machine using a USB drive? I have also reset the cmos battery and reseated the ram.

  • [SOLVED] Acer Aspire One - Wireless issue + Wpa_supplicant

    Hi there!
I've been using arch on both my desktop and laptop for a while, with wpa_supplicant working perfectly for both of them (University 802.1x auth) I have a config file which works perfectly on the same wireless network with my laptop, but on the netbook I just can't seem to get on it. It's an Acer Aspire One - A150.
This computer uses as we know an atheros chip, which I just can't seem to get working. My laptop on the other hand uses an ipw2200 chip which works fine.
I've installed the madwifi modules, and when doing iwconfig i can see wlan0 listed.  If i try to scan for wireless ap's with "iwlist wlan0 scan" it does not find anything.
Doing "wpa_supplicant -Dmadwifi -iwlan0 -c/..../wpa_supplicant.conf -dd " produces the following error
    [henrik@scribble ~]$ sudo wpa_supplicant -Dmadwifi -iwlan0 -c/home/henrik/wpa_supplicant.conf -dd

    two things:
    1. Your computer should be using the ath5k driver for the ar5007 chipset that your netbook has... and
    2. If the opensource approach doesn't work for you, build this driver.
    p.s. (wlan0 will be renamed to ath0)

  • Acer aspire 5670: Performance issues

I have now kdemod installed, but this has been happening on kde and gnome, so i think it is because of the damn ati video card.
The point is that the system gets completely frozen for some minutes, and then all goes back to normal during some seconds again......
Could it be some issues with the video driver? WHat can i try? Of course, composition is deactivated.
If you reboot the system it seems to be ok for the first minutes, then you can see how the memory usage and the processor usage increases constantly, even when you are doing nothing.....
    Any suggestions would be apreciated.
    Thanks!!!

What video driver do you use, open or proprietary? Do you run with or without xorg.conf? If you use xorg.conf, it could help to post it. Do you use KMS (kernel mode setting). Personally, I had problems with an ATI card and KMS, so I disabled it and my problems went away. See wiki article on how to disable it:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI … _.28KMS.29
On the other hand, some people report performance improvements using KMS, so you may want to set it up according to the wiki article and see if it helps.
Did you look into, e.g. htop, during times of high CPU usage?

  • Acer Aspire v3-111P-C9Z3 SSD Upgrade issues

Hello I bought an Acer Aspire v3-111P-C9Z3 last summer and this summer bought an SSD to upgrade it with. I plugged the SSD in through my external USB dock, cloned the OS and tried running it. The seemingly simple operation ended when I got a "No Bootable Device" message from the Acer Bios. Running on legacy mode nets me a similar error.  I used EaseUS to clone the OSI bought a 120g PNY SSDCLoned win10 the BIOS seems to recognize that the SSD is there (In the BIOS load order in the f2 screen it says something like " HDDSD-XXXXXXXXXXX" but it doesn't boot up the OS from the SSD the way that would be expected after being cloned.  I appreciate anyone's help. I'm pretty computer-literate and have been looking around but have not found anything to fix this yet.  Thanks

you can try to repair the cloned OS with a windows bootable media, boot from it and choose repair my computer then troubleshot and check if automatic repair/startup repair is able to fix it.  Honestly, i would prefer to make a fresh install switching from HDD to SSD, since Windows makes some tweaks when installing on SSD (Trim, garbage collector, alignement)

Hello, I have an Acer aspire v5-131 and its 2 years old. It's windows 8 I got the message where I can auto update to windows 10 so I decided to do that but never noticed any difference. The problem where it can't get past the start up and there's 3 different types. 1. It shows the acer logo and the loading animation but then the screen goes black after 10 minutes. 2. It says preparing automatic repair then the screen goes black after 10 minutes. 3. It says "Scanning and repairing drive (C but stops at 47%. I've waited 3 hours but it still didn't progress after that.

if you don't have a recovery media, please download the iso for windows 10 and create a bootable media with it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 once done, try to boot from it, press F12 at boot and select your bootable media. if it boots try to enter safe mode as i wrote in my previous post.

The fan should not be overly loud, it sounds like it might have an issue. I would recommend you contact the Acer technical support in your area and see what your options are.

  • Acer Aspire E13 : Suspend/Poweroff don't Work

    Hi !
I just got hold of a nice new laptop, An Acer Aspire E 13 (ES1-311-C1E8) and I've been running into a couple of issues.
I've already tried Ubuntu on this device and the issues are not present.
    Two Big ones really,
On Poweroff, it doesn't actually shut down, it seems to complete the shutdown process, the screen goes black, but the hard drive keeps spinning, and the power light remains on. Not entirely sure why.
The bigger issue is Suspend : On closing the lid, using the suspend button, using the power button, or using (sudo) pm-suspend, it just freezes. the /var/log/pm-suspend.log claims that the suspend succeeded but I cannot resume it from suspend (Tried every key on the keyboard, touchpad and power button)

I don't know if anyone has had similar issues, or found any way around this, or if anyone knows what the ubuntu devs have added to fix things ?
edit : Attempted using lts kernel, No improvement
    Thanks in advance

    jman6495:
I had exactly the same problem with my Acer ES1-512 laptop. Tried a bunch of kernels, systemd versions, tried pm-utils, systemctl. Instantly freezed on suspend, and didn't turn off the computer neither with "systemctl poweroff", neither with "sudo poweroff".
A few days ago I've found the solution (or at least for my laptop): In the BIOS settings I had to disable the "xHCI support (external USB 3.0 controller)". Maybe not the best solution, but it works for me.
Also, it's worth mentioning that I disabled UEFI in the BIOS and using legacy mode instead (installed Arch this way).
    I hope this helps!

  • Problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1. Acer Aspire E5-511

I bought an Acer Aspire E5-511, but I have problem with touchpad and Windows 8.1.The touchpad (Synaptics) is not working with Windows 8.1 x64, but it works fine with Windows 7 x64 and Windows 8 x64.When I install Windows 8.1 and have to choose” language to install” I can’t choose anything with the touchpad. I should plug in my mouse to continue. I doesn’t work even when it’s fully installed and with latest driver (available only for win 8.1 x64) from Acer’s website. I tried with an older driver, but had no success. I updated BIOS, but it doesn’t work again. In hardware IDS in device manager it shows HID\… not ACPI\… (like win 7/8). Fn+F7 doesn’t help. When I try to install Windows7/8 the touchpad is working properly at the beginning (I can choose ”language to install”, “Time and currency format”… and the touchpad works after install even without driver).

SOLUTION So guys after deep research and troubleshooting I found that you need to keep notice of a few things at time of installation: Installation Mode: UEFI (only)- LEGACY would create touchpad issues. after installation of windows just follow the driver installation hierarchy 1.Intel NB_Chipset_M Baytrail-M 2.Intel I/O Driver then rest of the crap. Note:After doing all this make sure your touchpad is active >> Fn+F7 Just wished if this solution came from an acer executive , the world would have been a better place , but anyways this is what community is for. Enjoy everyone

  • Firefox Slow Even When Offline on Acer Aspire One ao751h-1145

I have a 2gb RAM, 1.33 Ghz Intel Atom CPU Z520, and a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate on my Acer Aspire One ao751h-1145. I have no viruses and no programs running in the background. I've installed and uninstalled various versions of Firefox (4, 11, 12) and even upon a fresh install before I edit preferences, bookmarks, or add-ons, the PROGRAM ITSELF is super slow. It isn't using any more RAM or processer speed that it should, however. What it does: Menus are slow to open, scrolling is jumpy, and switching from tab to tab takes like 2 seconds. Internet Explorer 8 works just fine, as do all other programs on the computer. Also, it works fine in Safe Mode. I can't find anything regarding this issue online. Help!

Thanks for reply. But, drivers are up to date. However, I found on this page (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-upgrade-my-graphics-drivers) that I might want to disable hardware acceleration. I did that through the options menu and Firefox is "usable," but still not what I'm used to on other computers and still not as fast as IE on the same computer. Since turning of the hardware acceleration helped, what else can I do along the same lines to speed it up more? I know a 1.33GHz processor is plenty fast enough to run only firefox by itself. The computer I'm on now (my non-netbook) runs at 700MHz when on batteries and has no performance issues. I hope I can get it because I don't want to use another browser! :(

  • Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Number Lock

I know this has been asked before but the answers given have not worked.1.  Edit the registery.2.  Disable fast startup.I have an Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black (VN7-791G) with Windows 8.1.  I want Num Lock on always.  When I boot the machine in the morning it is off.  When I wake the machine after a period of inactivity it is off.  I have edited the registry under the keyboard settings per other replys in these forums with no change.  I have disabled fast startup per replys in these forums again with no change.  I contacted Microsux because I think it is a windows issue but they said to contact Acer.  Acer chat is of no use they want you to pay them to modify the registry.  So here I and I believe others are stuck with a machine that does its own thing.

I'm having the same issue. Changing the registry values fixes the num-lock status at startup, but makes no difference when the computer goes to sleep. As soon as it goes to sleep, num lock is turned off. Microsoft support says "Check with your System/Mortherboard Maker's Support, their on-line documentation, and ask
    in their forums.
Some makers will have settings in the BIOS, others will provide utilities to do it, and others may
have methods in place which prevent doing it in Windows." Is there any such utility/setting that can fix this issue? It is my only complaint about this laptop.
