Acer Aspire V 15 Nitro VN7-571G-58T0 issues

I bought the laptop in May 2015, and I'm facing the following problems: 1. Wifi doesn't work properly:I have tried updating the driver of the Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222 WiFi card, but it has made no difference. Acer issued a patch to supposedly rectify the problem, but it definitely didn't work. Connections keep dropping, and it refuses to reconnect automatically. The range is poor, while other devices such as phones work perfectly from the same spot. It defeats the point of having a sticker advertising "Up To 2X Faster Wireless" on the laptop.  2. Wifi doesn't work after switching on and off 'Airplane mode'I'm not sure if it's a Windows error or the WiFi card's problem, but the only solution I found was to restart the laptop each time. Any alternate suggestions are welcome. 3. Trackpad response is terribleThe first half second of any swipe is not registered. Thus, I unnecessarily have to move my finger for a bit before the touch pad starts responding. Two finger scrolling is frustratingly difficult to achieve. I find myself dragging my fingers almost halfway across the trackpad before the touch is registered. Is there a driver update that will solve this issue? 4. Speakers jarIf I'm playing a punchy, bass heavy track at above 65% volume, the speakers jar. This is with the Dolby settings on. I play the same file on another device with Harman Kardon speakers, and it's way more pleasing to  listen to. 5. Num-Lock is 'Off' after every sleep sessionNum-Lock is switched off by default, and the laptop refuses to retain the last applied setting after every sleep session. Is there a way to rectify this? 6. Keyboard-backlight setting is 'On' after every sleep sessionJust like the Num-Lock, the keyboard light kicks in after every sleep session and does not retain the last applied setting. There is also substantial gap under the keys, so at most angles, the light bleeds, making it harder to see the alphabets on the keys. More than anything, it's the wifi performance that has really let me down. Laptops half as expensive perform flawlessly, and it really pisses me off that all the painfull research and keeping an eye out for discounts finally resulted in this - an unreliable laptop. Half the issues mentioned here shouldn't be existing in this day and age. If any solutions are available to the problems listed above, please keep me posted.

vn7571g_user,
Sorry to hear that you are not having the best possible experience with your new notebook. I'd like to try and address a few of your concerns that you have listed and see if there are some things we can resolve for you.
1. Wifi doesn't work properly:
I see that you have posted in a couple other threads (1st, 2nd) regarding wireless issues with this notebook. We can gladly check this unit at the repair depot for you if you are not keen on changing the card out, PM me the following information and I will see what I can do for you:
SNID or serial number
Contact name
Contact number
Email address
Shipping address
Purchase date
2. Wifi doesn't work after switching on and off 'Airplane mode'
If you have already tried to install/update the drivers, it could be a Windows issue. You can attempt a refresh to see if that helps resolve it.
3. Trackpad response is terrible
This notebook uses a precision touchpad possibly, but since it uses Synaptics drivers you have a couple options:
You can change the way that the touchpad works.
It says Windows 7, but you can see if you have this option in the touchpad settings and see if it helps you out.
4. Speakers jar
Do you have the same issue without the Dolby turned on?
5. Num-Lock is 'Off' after every sleep session
Here is a Microsoft article that discusses this feature. You can follow the steps that they list if you would like.
6. Keyboard-backlight setting is 'On' after every sleep session
The backlit keyboard is working as designed. Here is an article with some FAQ about the backlit keyboard to help customers understand its functionality a bit more.
A couple final thoughts:
Did the issue(s) you are having occur before or after Windows updates, sometime a bad installation of an update can cause all sorts of things to happen.
Worst case, you can always try to restore to factory defaults and test all these things before applying updates or installing any applications or programs.

  • Acer Aspire V5-531 Dolby Advanced Audio driver issues after updating to Windows 10

    After upgrading to Windows 10 I was getting an error on loading Windows media player which indicated that: The current Dolby audio driver version is 7.2.8000.17 and the softwareapplication expects driver version 7.2.7000.7. Please install a valid driver and application combination  Although Windows 10 has probably updated your driver to the latest version of the driver (you can check this in device manager for yourself) but the Dolby Advanced Audio V2 application which was supplied by Acer (not Dolby) has not been updated to the corresponding latest version. So, you need an updated version of Dolby Advanced Audio V2 (Version 7.2.8000.17) Acer have not published an updated version. Looked all over the site coudn't find it.  My solution was to remove the error was to uninstall the Acer version and replace with the correct version downloaded from the Lenovo site below. http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds028945  I'd wanted to make sure it was the same software, so I tried without uninstalling first and it refused as a version was already installed. So that was reassuring. Thanks for the archived post below pointing me to the softwre on the Lenoveo site at the Lenovo site. I'd looked all over the Acer site for it. http://community.acer.com/t5/2013-Archives/how-i-solved-the-dolby-realtek-audio-problem/td-p/103157  There are warnings on the page above not to use the Lenovo version of the software because of 'tuning', but my audio sounds just as good as before and the error is now gone. Without it the Dolby would have been uninstalled so it seemed a reasonable punt to me. Disappointed in Acer, will buy a Lenovo next time...

    Hi, The only driver that ever worked properly with Dolby was the driver for The V5-552G on windows 8 (not 8.1) This will work on your computer even if different model... the new driver on the Acer site for winodws 10 has not work either. So the one I´m using is: Audio_Realtek_6.0.1.6878_W8x64_A To Download the Driver and Software needed Go to: http://www.acer.co.in/ac/en/IN/content/drivers and Go: Ultra-Thin / Aspire / V5-552G To get dolby to work: 1. Uninstall the current driver, and any software related to it (the dolby software) 2. restart 3. Install the driver for windows 8 (in my case it never installs dolby automatically, I´ll explain how to do it manually below) 4. Restart twice (yes, I always had to restart twice after the install otherwise manually installing dolby would not work and I got an error when trying to run the install) 5. In the driver folders you downloaded and unzipped go to the folder "PCEE4" and run "DolbyAdvancedAudio.msi" 6.If you dont get the "Install PCEE" error, restart and you should be able to enjoy dolby (when its not acting up). If you get the error then you may have not followed the instructions properly. Go back to step 1 Good luck

  • Acer Aspire E5-473-35TX or Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition VN7-571G-73ZJ ?

    Hi! I'm planning to buy a new laptop, i already browse some online store and found thishttp://www.lazada.com.ph/acer-aspire-switch-10-e-sw3-013-10w8-64gb-intel-101-2-in-1-touchscreen-laptop-shark-gray-534535.html

    Boy, those are two very different machines! The first one is very handy if you are carrying the laptop with you most of the time, especially if you are switching between carrying it, using it as a laptop and using it as a tablet fairly often. The detriment is that the screen is small, only 10 inch. The second one is a lot more powerful and larger, but it will be more of a hassle to carry (you will want a backpack or briefcase). It's better suited if you are traveling between locations and want to set it up for extended use at each destination. You are going to be less likely to want to pull it out for ten minutes of quick web surfing.

  • Install Windows 8.1 Pro on Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591

    Hi forum, I recently bought the Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-591 and I noticed that it only comes with the Core Edition of Windows 8.1. As I need some of the features of the Windows 8.1 Pro Edition (joining domains, remote display etc.) I would like to upgrade the System to Windows 8.1 Pro. I still have an unused Pro retail key (no OEM, no Upgrade Pack) here so at the moment I'm downloading the ISO for Windows 8.1 Pro. But prior to installation I would like to make sure that everything works out fine and I don't run intro problems. First of all: is there anything I need to save from the old OS (except from the recovery partition- I already saved that to a USB drive using the recovery program provided by Acer)? Do I have to know my Product Key (using for example a key viewer software) just in case? Do I have to disable secure boot in BIOS? Second: can I just install Windows 8.1 Pro using my ISO and installing the drivers from the Acer support website? Drivers should still work, right? Third: if I ever want to switch back to Windows 8.1 Core (the OEM edition) do I just use the USB pen drive created with the acer recovery tool? Will my retail Windows 8.1 Pro Key be usable again if I switch back to the original OS? Sorry for asking that many questions but I just have to make sure that it runs trough right in the first place because I need the Laptop to function. What would be your standard procedure to this kind of "problem"? Thanks in advance and with regards,The_DJ  Edit:I might have forgotten to mention that I want to do a clean reinstall without all the bloatware from Acer. That's why I'm using the Windows 8.1 Pro "Vanilla" ISO and if I ever want to switch back to core use the Windows 8.1 Core "Vanilla" ISO. Is that possible or would I have to use the recovery partition saved to my USB drive?

     Changing the Operating System may cause driver conflicts. The compatible drivers for Windows 8.1 will not be available in the website for this laptop. Hence, some of the features on the laptop might not work after changing the OS.  1: Since you have already created the USB recovery media from the laptop, you do not have to copy anything else other than this.  Make sure you you backup all files before installing the OS, as it will remove all data from the laptop. I see that, you have the unused Pro retail key for the OS, hence, you do not have to have the OEM product key. You need to use the product key for Windows 8.1 Pro to activate it, not the Acer OEM product key.  In the BIOS, select BOOT tab.  Select BOOT MODE as Legacy Mode instead of UEFI.Disable Secure Boot. Under Boot Priority Order, you need to select 1 as CD/DVD (if you are using disc), or USB FDD or USB HDD (if you are using USB drive) to install Windows 8.1 Pro.  Then press the F10 key and select "Yes" to save the changes in BIOS.  ->You an install Windows 8.1 Pro using my ISO and installing the drivers from the Acer support website. As said before, there may driver conflicts.  -> If you want to switch back to Windows 8.1, you may use the USB reovery drive (which created you have created from the recovery partition). When you do this, the Windows 8.1 Pro and it's product key will be removed from the laptop and the factory shipped OS, drivers, apps (and the OEM product key) will be installed automatically. You do not have to use the Windows 8.1 Pro key with Acer OEM USB reovery media.  -> You need to do a clean install using the USB recovery drive to install factory shipped Windows on the laptop.

  • Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black Number Lock

    I know this has been asked before but the answers given have not worked.1.  Edit the registery.2.  Disable fast startup.I have an Acer Aspire V17 Nitro Black (VN7-791G) with Windows 8.1.  I want Num Lock on always.  When I boot the machine in the morning it is off.  When I wake the machine after a period of inactivity it is off.  I have edited the registry under the keyboard settings per other replys in these forums with no change.  I have disabled fast startup per replys in these forums again with no change.  I contacted Microsux because I think it is a windows issue but they said to contact Acer.  Acer chat is of no use they want you to pay them to modify the registry.  So here I and I believe others are stuck with a machine that does its own thing.

    I'm having the same issue. Changing the registry values fixes the num-lock status at startup, but makes no difference when the computer goes to sleep. As soon as it goes to sleep, num lock is turned off. Microsoft support says "Check with your System/Mortherboard Maker's Support, their on-line documentation, and ask
    in their forums.
    Some makers will have settings in the BIOS, others will provide utilities to do it, and others may
    have methods in place which prevent doing it in Windows." Is there any such utility/setting that can fix this issue?It is my only complaint about this laptop.

  • Wifi unstable and extremely slow on my Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-7.

    Hi again ! My previous problem is now solved. But now I have issues with my wifi. The wifi works perfectly on other devices but on my Aspire V Nitro VN7-591G-7, it's just impossible to do anything on the internet... I've read it's a common problem and there are solutions. What steps should I follow in order to solve this ? I'm running Windows 8.1 by the way. I really like the performances of this computer so I wish to get rid of this stupid problem ! Thank you very much.

    Can you describe "unstable and extremely slow" in more detail. Are you connected to the 5 GHz band of your wireless router or are you connected to the 2.4 GHz band? Are you having problems with all websites or just a few? Which web browser are you using?  IE or chrome or firefox? What is the model # of your wireless router? Is your wireless router supplied by your ISP? Or did you buy it retail? What BIOS version is currently installed on you laptop? What BIOS version is designated as the latest version on Acer's website? Does the problem occur when you use other people's wifi such as a friend, relative or neighbor?  Have you tested it somewhere besides your home? Does Acer's website list an updated wireless driver for your computer? http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

  • Certain keyboard keys don't work Acer Aspire V3-571G

    Hello, A few months ago I began to have issues with my Acer Aspire V3-571G-9435 where certain keys would intermittently stop working. Most often it would be the "A" key, along with less frequently the "C" and "Z" keys, and somtimes other keys. Within a minute or so they would start working again. A couple weeks ago, however, several of the keys, including the "A" "C" "Z" "F" "," "." and some other keys stopped working altogether (all at once). Following some guides I found online, I took the laptop apart and was able to take the keyboard ribbon cable out of its connector and put it back in, thinking it may be a loose connection issue. However, this did not fix the issue. I went online and ordered a new keyboard from Amazon, thinking the keyboard itself might be broken. After installing the new keyboard however, and entirely NEW set of keys have stopped working, including "J" "Q" "T" "U" "P" "1" and a few other keys. (However most of the keys that weren't working previously are working again). Does anyone have any other suggestions about what I should do? I've been using an external USB keyboard, which works fine, except obviously portability is sacrificed. I'm unsure if this is a hardware or software issue, as a brand new keyboard still isn't working properly. Could there still be something wrong with the connection? Is there a possible software/diver issue? Thanks for any help.

    jmckeen,
    A new keyboard means a new ribbon cable so that leaves the only constant, the motherboard; pending the unit was not damaged in any way from like dropping it or spilling something on it. If you are in warranty I would see about creating a repair for it. Here is the link to set up repairs online, or you can chat online with a technician (available 24/7).

  • Aspire VN7 571G 55ZA Intel Graphics driver

    Hello!
    I upgraded my VN7 571G 55ZA to Windows 10 yesterday and since my notebook only had Windows 8.1 Home I got the Windows 10 Home Edition aswell. That edition forces updates from Windows Update and so it does for the integrated Intel Graphics 4400 from the Intel Core i5 4210U. The problem is with the manufacturer drivers from Intel my Notebook is not able to display real 1920x1080 resolution anymore altough it is shown everywhere as 1920x1080 also the some windows are really blurry. I already tried installing manufacturer drivers from Intel under Windows 8.1 and it did the exact same thing so I had to switch back to the OEM drivers from Acer.
    So under Windows 10 I got version 10.18.15.4256 force installed. When I tried installing the version 10.18.15.4256 (after trying to uninstall the drivers on it of course) I got the error message "The system does not meet the requirements for the software.". The problem also is you cannot really make a good install with a restart after you delete the drivers on it because as soon as you restart the computer Windows 10 would just install the driver again while you are still on the login screen! Now I have seen how often acer updated the drivers for my notebook and I was asking myself if we will get another driver update in the near future that is probably an up to date version of the Intel Graphics driver like version 15.x.x.x? Or is there an obvious reason that I do not see why we still get the 10.x.x.x versions of their drivers? Thanks in advance!

    I'm not sure if this will help as we have different computers. When I upgraded to Windows 10 like you did......I just let Windows do it's thing.  After it was done, I went to Acer downloads and installed the chipset driver.  After I installed the chipset driver and it rebooted, I installed the intel ME (management engine) driver.  I never manually installed the intel HD4400/4600 graphics driver.  I just used what windows gave me in the upgrade process. The intel graphics driver that windows upgrade automatically gave me is actually newer than what's on intel's website.....so I just stuck with it.

  • Are Acer Aspire VN7-591/791 notebooks vunerable to the Rowhammer DDR3 javascript exploit?

    Today in the news that two researchers have found a way to exploit the Rowhammer DDR3 memory hardware bug through javascript in a webbrowser. http://news.softpedia.com/news/row-hammer-dram-bug-now-exploitable-via-javascript-488050.shtml http://arxiv.org/pdf/1507.06955v1.pdf Hackers can gain root level access to your computer this way and there is no way to prevent that by software or sandboxes. Only way is to block all javascript or use ECC memory for DDR3. DDR4 memory is not affected. For now the researchers used javascript but hackers might find other ways to exploit this. Are Acer Aspire VN7-591/791 notebooks vunerable to the Rowhammer DDR3 javascript exploit or do they support ECC Memory?

  • Acer Aspire Nitro V15 Black Edition poor wireless internet

    I have the same problem, though my wifi adapter is not an Intel but Qualcom. I turned off bluetooth but no change... Connection is frequently dropping and getting slow at times. This occurance is much more notecable when I'm 5-10 meters away from the access point. None of the laptops that I had in the past have had this issue (HPs and Dells). I expected things to get better in this price range (1500 e)...

    I have 3 Nitro V15 Black laptops.  One came with Intel WiFi card and the other two came with Qualcomm card.  With Qualcomm there is no setting I talked about.  It was only for Intel card.  In this case, just apply the patch provided by Acer.  And the following is from a Acer Technician and the ACER Website. http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/35050#_ga=1.174755426.1189951982.1426805455: Why is my wireless signal strength low after changing power settings?Wireless signal strength may decrease when Windows Power Options are set to High Performance. • V Nitro VN7-791 screen is flashing when playing Minecraft

    Hello,I just got brand new Acer Aspire V Nitro VN7-791. I bought it for playing differnet games. I.m very disappointed when I tried to play Minecraft. The screen is constantly flashing in an irritating way. I tired to update display drivers and fix the video options, but the problems doesn't end. The strange thing is that other games run smoothly, f ex GTA V. Do you have same problems? Can you play Minecraft with your Acers? Any ideas to solve the problem? If I won't find a solution, I want my money back.

    YamoZ,
    Make sure that the discreet graphics are set to run the game instead of the onboard Intel graphics chipset (CPU) to see if that makes a difference. It sounds like it is driver related, if you have not performed all your Windows updates. Be sure to check optional updates, there might be some there that could address this.

  • VN7-571G fan shuts down in stress = overheating

    Hello, I have 4 months old acer aspire VN7-571G-57MX. It has worked correctly before but now i have noticed for the last week that every time the machine is under hard stress mostly gaming, the fan does not work. I hear semi loud high pitch noice coming from the laptop but no fan sound and no air current. Ofcourse this means that the laptop overheats and i cannot use it as intended.. If I enter the desktop and wait around 10 mins for the computer to cool down, THEN the fan starts and the high pitching noice stops. So the fan actually works but only when no stress is applied to computer. The fan only shuts down in stress, which is ofcourse the opposite that it should be doing. I havent installed anything new lately, drivers are up to date:Model HD Graphics Family Device ID 8086-0A16 Driver version 10.18.10.3643GTX 850M = Driver version 353.30 Anyone experienced anything similar?I am thinking about updating the intel chipset with the intel drivers update utility and discarding acer installed ones but it says that it might cause techical issues. But can it be worse then this?

    Hi lucachenko, Make sure all updates are installed, you can try installing the intel drivers of course but i think you might have to end up contacting support because overheating and fan issues are not any good for your laptop and the more you keep using it like that the more problems are going to start appearing.

    Hi people of the archlinux forum.
    Finally I decided to change from ubuntu to archlinux because I wanted to learn more about the world of linux.:D

    This is my laptop after the suspend:
    I'm using pm-utils to suspend and hibernate my laptop, and the hibernate works fine. All settings were made following the arch wiki.

    I have the same problem with my Acer Aspire 5100 (video ATI Xpress1100).
    xorg.conf is not used. Turning KMS off doesn`t help.
    I have tried to use uswsusp, but it doesn`t help. s2ram -n output correctly identify my laptop, which means it is in "whitelist" and correct settings for this hardware is known. s2ram suspend works, but screen blinking after waking up remains the same.
    [Sydorenko@SLE ~]$ sudo s2ram -n
    Machine matched entry 17:
    sys_vendor = 'Acer *'
    sys_product = 'Aspire 5100 *'
    sys_version = ''
    bios_version = ''
    Fixes: 0x3 S3_BIOS S3_MODE
    This machine can be identified by:
    sys_vendor = "Acer "
    sys_product = "Aspire 5100 "
    sys_version = "V3.10A"
    bios_version = "V3.10A"
    See http://suspend.sf.net/s2ram-support.html for details.
