Acer aspire v5 131 start up issues

Hello, I have an Acer aspire v5-131 and its 2 years old. It's windows 8 I got the message where I can auto update to windows 10 so I decided to do that but never noticed any difference. The problem where it can't get past the start up and there's 3 different types. 1. It shows the acer logo and the loading animation but then the screen goes black after 10 minutes. 2. It says preparing automatic repair then the screen goes black after 10 minutes. 3. It says "Scanning and repairing drive (C but stops at 47%. I've waited 3 hours but it still didn't progress after that.

if you don't have a recovery media, please download the iso for windows 10 and create a bootable media with it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 once done, try to boot from it, press F12 at boot and select your bootable media. if it boots try to enter safe mode as i wrote in my previous post.

  • [NON-SOLVED/Workaround] Acer Aspire One 522 (AO522) suspend issues

I recently got one of these netbooks because of the AMD C-50 chip and installed Arch x86-64 (required using the latest version of Archboot, the 2011.02_02 testiso segfaulted during boot and the 2010.05 official doesn't have a new enough kernel for the ethernet or wifi chips). As a side note, AIF forgets to add cryptdevice= lines to grub.cfg if you use luks, that caused some hair pulling until I found the problem.
I'm all up and running on the desktop (Xfce4), but still have 2 major problems to sort out: suspend and sound, but I'll keep this thread just to suspend. (sound works, but not through the headphone jack)
The problem is yet again the "black screen on resume", it suspends fine but won't get back to the desktop. I verified that the system does wake up and the kernel is responsive by logging in through ssh - full functionality. The screen comes on with the backlight, but is just black. I'm using the xf86-video-ati drivers (it's a HD 6250 card), and haven't had any other visual problems with them, except the white screen of death when attempting to run compiz-fusion (so I went back to just the Xfce4.6 built-in compositor).
I looked at uswsusp based on a bunch of old forum posts, but didn't install it because a) it's marked as deprecated, and b) the kernel already wakes up fine. I also checked top when ssh'd in to it after a resume, and no processes were taking any real amount of processor - the xfce4-cpugraph-plugin was sitting in the tray and using 0-1% as expected. That also indicated that X was back up and running, it just wasn't displaying. As expect with ssh working, /var/log/pm-suspend.log shows no problems. "resume" is in the mkinitcpio hooks. I've tried both X and windows-style three finger salutes (really every combination of shift, ctrl, alt, bksp, and del) after the screen comes up black, with no response except the system beep starts sounding after a while.
I haven't tried working on hibernating and have no plans to anytime soon, since I use lvm on luks and the swap partition is in the lvm. I tried once just for kicks, it went first to a sort of sleep where the power LED went orange for a second or two, then back to power-on with a blank screen and tons of HD activity (seemingly saving state to swap), then turned off. Upon power on, it went through the normal power on cycle, the only difference from normal boot was that partitions showed incomplete shutdown and had to restore journals.
Has anyone else run into this, and possibly has a fix?
Edit: Seems I've found other problems with the video driver, switching to virtual consoles just shows a blank screen with no prompt, then switching back to vc7 (X) showed the screen wrapped halfway around horizontally (my left side panel was int the middle, etc). A second set of switching to consoles and back to vc7 just brings up a white screen with some glitches at the top, no cursor or anything. Every time I go back and forth is shows a different type of screen glitch, and eventually it goes back to working. Maybe I'll have to go for the catalyst drivers after all.
Edit Nov 2011: back to non-solved at request of another poster.

After switching to the catalyst drivers, compiz works, but the system still fails to resume from standby.
I did what was suggested this post with extracting the official driver and copying the new files into the /etc/ati/ folder without running the full installer, but that didn't make any difference (the catalyst-hook package in AUR didn't give me a version with the "unsupported hardware" thing in the first place though). What happens now on resume is that the backlight doesn't even try to turn on, but the kernel still wakes up and everything else is working.
Here's the entirety of everything.log from initiating sleep until a few minutes after trying to wake up: (weirdly the timestamp doesn't change between sleeping and waking, though I left it 10-15 seconds in sleep)

  • Acer Aspire 7750g driver issue.

    Hello everyone,
I own an Acer Aspire 7750g-2636G75Mnkk
Recently i updated to Windows 10 but i found out that my AMD Radeon 6650M is not supported, so i switched back to windows 7 with the Back up disc i made with the factory settings.
So i tried to update everything, i used the AMD auto detect tool and it did install to the newest 15.7 driver. After the restart i got horizontal black lines flickering over my screen so i uninstalled it and went back to the factory driver.
Went to the acer site for driver download and i saw there was a "newer" version available. (8.901.4.0).
So i uninstalled the factory one(8.822.0.0) and installed this one. But the installer said when it was done that there were some problems. I checked the log but everything was succesfully installed.
After the restart everything went good until after the login screen. Screen was black with green, i could barely see anything.
Tried to plug HDMI cable into my TV.
Tv screen is normal but laptop screen is still black and green.
So i uninstalled that one again and went back with the factory one. (8.822.0.0)
I am now running into compatibility issues, i can start a program but it closes right after. I can only start it when i put Windows 7 manually in the compatibility mode.
Even some games say my drivers are outdated.
When i do 64bit DxDiag, it says program stopped working. Started it again and it said it had problems accessing the Direct3D. If i don't skip this step, it stops working. But if i do skip it, it runs but when i check the Screen tab, there is nothing. Not even a driver detected.
I can't even open Catalyst Control Center because it says program stopped working and has been shutdown.
I have updated my BIOS to the latest version Acer gave me V1.21
Oh, and i also downloaded all the updates from Windows Update.
I tried different kind of Catalyst Control Center Suites(mostly the same as the newest driver 15.7, horizontal black lines flickering over the whole screen)
    So now im stuck.
Someone got an idea on how to fix this?

Hello Guys, Even I had a similar problem. I was planning to take it to service center. But just wanted to try once more so searched in the community and got this thread. My situation is I changed my RAM 2 months ago from 3GB to 8GB on my 5830TG. I never got to BIOS screen at all. I got scared & din't know what to do. After reading this post I replaced my new ram with the old once which I had it with me. My laptop booted properly. Then I removed the old ones & added both the new RAM's then the laptop did not boot. Suspecting that one of the RAM must have gone non functional I tried one by one. Both worked fine. Finally I had to insert the RAM properly. Insert it little hard so that it sat fine in the slot. I also reset my BIOS just in case. Great post guys, it helped my try once. You don't know how much time and money I saved :-) Thanks a ton.

Many thanks for a reply. It's good to get some feedback at least. I must admit I won't be too concerned if it's not compatible as I've since migrated to more useful tablet devices. This thing was always a bit of a mistake, especially with the annoyingly useless android bolt on. But as I use it for the occasional larger screen benefit and printer link, it would be good to have the benefit of latest MS. It still raises the question of why Acer at least can't provide a definitive list. After all there must be many other idiots like me that bought one? Thanks again

Of course within a couple of hours of this post I figured it out.
I went to /etc/conf.d/gpm and added "-2" for two button mouse.
    GPM_ARGS="-2 -m /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input8""
Now I can paste by simultaneously clicking the left/right buttons.

  • Acer aspire ES1-111 issues

Hi all,I decided to register in this community in order to get some advice and opinion about issues I'm experiencing with this laptop. I'm an owner of an Acer Aspire ES1-111 which I bought a week ago. Since its first configuration I noticed problems using it with windows 8.1 (its native OS). For example touchpad or keyboard not working properly and, most of all, shutdown problems. In this particular case I was never able to shutdown properly the device, because it either freezed or remained with the power indicator that continued being "on" although it seemed that the system was shutdown. However, in order to really shutdown I had to press power button. Firstly I decided to reset the system with the integrated software eRecovery but problems remained. Secondly I decided to do a clean install of the operating system and I tried both Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. In both cases, installation process finished without problems but when trying installing all drivers I experienced freezes and again shutdown problems. I followed an order to install drivers (Chipset first, than VGA etc), but in most of cases I had the aformentioned issues. I also tried disabling "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" to no avail.  But now comes the strange part... I finally decided to give a try to Windows 7 and, to my surprise, everything is working fine! I was able to install drivers properly and to shutdown or restart my notebook without problems. Now I'm using it with Windows 7, but, as it is in warranty, I would like to ask you what do you think about this issues.  I find quite strange that a notebook isn't working properly with its native OS but it's fine with an old OS!! Do you think I should send it to Acer assistance or ask to change it (although, I don't know if I'm still able to pursue this second option). Thanks for your attention! Mic

Bios was set to UEFI when I bought the notebook. System was very slow on its first configuration, probably due to all the third part softwares installed. Also the hdd was not partitioned, something I didn't like. So, after a reset with Acer eRecovery software that didn't solved the slowness of the system, I decided for a clean install with a Windows 8.1 bootable usb stick I had. And, in order to select the boot order desired, I had to change bios mode from UEFI to LEGACY. But, I think that this step was not the best option for a notebook that has a native UEFI bios, as my struggles showed. So, after some research, I decided to reset bios to UEFI, create a usb bootable stick that was compatible with UEFI (through RUFUS software) and run again installation process of Windows 8.1. And this time, all steps were done automatically and without problems. System is far more usable now. Yes, I lost the eRecovery partition, but I can alwasys use the one that the new installation has created.

  • [SOLVED] Acer Aspire One - Wireless issue + Wpa_supplicant

    Hi there!
I've been using arch on both my desktop and laptop for a while, with wpa_supplicant working perfectly for both of them (University 802.1x auth) I have a config file which works perfectly on the same wireless network with my laptop, but on the netbook I just can't seem to get on it. It's an Acer Aspire One - A150.
This computer uses as we know an atheros chip, which I just can't seem to get working. My laptop on the other hand uses an ipw2200 chip which works fine.
I've installed the madwifi modules, and when doing iwconfig i can see wlan0 listed.  If i try to scan for wireless ap's with "iwlist wlan0 scan" it does not find anything.
Doing "wpa_supplicant -Dmadwifi -iwlan0 -c/..../wpa_supplicant.conf -dd " produces the following error
    [henrik@scribble ~]$ sudo wpa_supplicant -Dmadwifi -iwlan0 -c/home/henrik/wpa_supplicant.conf -dd

    two things:
    1. Your computer should be using the ath5k driver for the ar5007 chipset that your netbook has... and
    2. If the opensource approach doesn't work for you, build this driver.
    p.s. (wlan0 will be renamed to ath0)

  • Acer Aspire v3-111P-C9Z3 SSD Upgrade issues

Hello I bought an Acer Aspire v3-111P-C9Z3 last summer and this summer bought an SSD to upgrade it with. I plugged the SSD in through my external USB dock, cloned the OS and tried running it. The seemingly simple operation ended when I got a "No Bootable Device" message from the Acer Bios. Running on legacy mode nets me a similar error.  I used EaseUS to clone the OSI bought a 120g PNY SSDCLoned win10 the BIOS seems to recognize that the SSD is there (In the BIOS load order in the f2 screen it says something like " HDDSD-XXXXXXXXXXX" but it doesn't boot up the OS from the SSD the way that would be expected after being cloned.  I appreciate anyone's help. I'm pretty computer-literate and have been looking around but have not found anything to fix this yet.  Thanks

you can try to repair the cloned OS with a windows bootable media, boot from it and choose repair my computer then troubleshot and check if automatic repair/startup repair is able to fix it.  Honestly, i would prefer to make a fresh install switching from HDD to SSD, since Windows makes some tweaks when installing on SSD (Trim, garbage collector, alignement)

  • ACER ASPIRE 5560G BIOS ISSUE

I purchased a Acer Aspire 5560g yesterday second hand , lappy worked great. Was updating all the drivers one of which was the BIOS. The install went through and then upon reboot the machine Black Screened. No HDD activity no display. Just a solid Blue light on front bezel fan running. Connected to external monitor and still nothing. From all Ive read it sounds like the BIOS installed hosed. Can someone PLEASE give me a good step by step on how to reflash the BIOS on this machine using a USB drive? I have also reset the cmos battery and reseated the ram.

  • Acer Aspire one will not boot up

When I boot up my Acer Aspire one  I get a message that says:
Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.  To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
    2. Choose your language settings, and then click "next"
    3.  Click "Repair your computer"
If you do not have this disc. contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
    File:  \Boot\BCD
    Status:  0xc000000e
Info:  An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.
The only problem is that my net book has no disc drive.  What am I to do??

    From ABOUT:
    Start
    System Recovery Options.
There are several ways of starting System Recovery Options. See How To Access the System Recovery Options Menu in the link above for help.
Open Command Prompt from the System Recovery Options menu.
    Note: The
Command Prompt available from the System Recovery Options menu is very similar to the one you may be familiar with within Windows. Also, the following procedure should work as described in both Windows 7 and Windows Vista.
At the prompt, type the bootrec
command as shown below and then press Enter:
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
The bootrec command will search for Windows installations not included in the Boot Configuration Data and then ask you if you'd like to add one or more to it.
You should see one of the following messages at the
    command line.
    Option 1
Scanning all disks for Windows installations.
Please wait, since this may take a while...
    Successfully scanned Windows installations.
    Total identified Windows installations: 0
    The operation completed successfully.
    Option 2
Scanning all disks for Windows installations.
Please wait, since this may take a while...
    Successfully scanned Windows installations.
    Total identified Windows installations: 1
    [1] D:\Windows
Add installation to boot list? Yes<Y>/No<N>/All<A>:
    If you see:
Option 1: Move on to Step 5. This result most likely means that Windows installation data in the BCD store exists but bootrec couldn't find any
additional installations of Windows on your computer to add to the BCD. That's fine, you'll just need to take a few extra steps to rebuild the BCD.
Option 2: Enter Y or Yes to the
Add installation to boot list? question, after which you should see a
The operation completed successfully message, followed by a blinking cursor at the prompt. Finish up with Step 10 toward the bottom of the page.
Since the BCD store exists and lists a Windows installation, you'll first have to "remove" it manually and then try to rebuild it again.
At the prompt, execute the bcdedit command as shown and then press Enter:
    bcdedit /export c:\bcdbackup
The bcdedit command is used here to export the BCD store as a file: bcdbackup. There's no need to specify a
    file extension.
The command should return the following on screen:
    The operation completed successfully.
meaning the BCD export worked as expected.
At this point, you need to adjust several
file attributes for the BCD store so you can manipulate it.
At the prompt, execute the attrib command exactly like this:
    attrib c:\boot\bcd -h -r -s
What you just did with the attrib command was remove the
    hidden, read-only, and
    system attributes from the file
bcd. Those attributes restricted the actions you could take on the file. Now that they're gone, you can manipulate the file more freely - specifically, rename it.
To rename the BCD store, execute the ren command as shown:
    ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
Now that the BCD store is renamed, you should now be able to successfully rebuild it, as you tried to do in Step 3.
Note: You could delete the BCD file entirely since you're about to create a new one. However, renaming the existing BCD accomplishes the same thing since it's now unavailable to Windows, plus provides you yet another layer of backup, in
addition to the export you did in Step 5, if you decide to undo your actions.
Try rebuilding the BCD again by executing the following, followed by Enter:
    bootrec /rebuildbcd
which should produce this in the Command Prompt window:
Scanning all disks for Windows installations.
Please wait, since this may take a while...
    Successfully scanned Windows installations.
    Total identified Windows installations: 1
    [1] D:\Windows
Add installation to boot list? Yes<Y>/No<N>/All<A>:
meaning that the BCD store rebuild is progressing as expected.
At the Add installation to boot list? question, type Enter Y or
Yes, followed by the Enter key.
You should see this on screen:
    The operation completed successfully.
meaning that the BCD rebuild is complete.
    Restart your computer.
Assuming that an issue with the BCD store was the only problem, Windows should start as expected.
If not, continue to troubleshoot whatever specific issue you're seeing that's preventing Windows from booting normally.
Important: Depending on how you started System Recovery Options, you may need to remove a disc or
    flash drive before restarting.

    Hello,
If any one could help me with this problem i would really appreciate it.
I have an Acer Aspire 4738-6888 (icore 5, 3GB RAM, 500GB HD), it was running win 7 ultimate 32 bits but started working erratically so i decided to perform a clean installation. HD was formatted entirely.
Then tried installing WIN 7 PRO 64 bits from a DVD, but the installation program does not load and shows a kernel error oxc0000098
It is funny that if i use a WIN 7 PRO 32 bits DVD, the installation programs loads and starts, everything seems to run normally (HD partitions can be created and formatted, Files are expanded and configuration begins) but just after the third restart
when the assistant shows the message " preparing to run windows for the first time " the blue screen appears showing a "Memory_Management" error. Tried one more time but using a WIN 7 ULTIMATE 32 bits DVD with same results.
Finally, I tried using the "repair option" from the DVD and get this message:
    StartupRepairOffline
    01: 6.1.7600.16385
    02: 6.1.7600.16385
    03: unknown
    04: 21350397
    05: ExternalMedia
    06: 1
    07: FailureDuringSetup
    OS version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
    Regional config: 3082
Before hand thanks a lot for your help,
    Rgds,
    GCH.

    Hi GustavoCh,
What issue did you meet so you want to reinstall?
Could you please use the Windows install image to install Windows in other computer or virtual machine? So we can make sure this issue is not caused by the image.
I think this issue is related to hardware, please contact the manufacturer for better help.
    Best regards,

  • New Printer HP2540/301 Acer Aspire 1 laptop has no disk drive and an idiot user. PLEASE HELP....

I bought myself a nice new 5240 all in one 301 printer on Wednesday.
Since then i have done nothing but fight with it ever since.
My laptop is an Acer Aspire one, one of the smaller ones, which unfortunately doesnt have a disk drive in it. My first thought went to downloading drivers. The web page didnt work and i realised then, that without the user manual (which i suspect is on the disk) i am totally lost.
So could someone please help me.
I have done a print out, which says.
Check your HP printer network name (SSID) matches your wireless router network name (SSID) exactly.
If they do not match exactly, run the wireless set up from the printer software to configure your HP printer.
I am assuming this is the software on the disk. Is there a way of downloading the software from online?
Any help would be gratefully accepted as i have no clue what i am doing atm. I am only just starting to learn how to use Windows 8 properly atm, up until now my whole computer skills hass been how to open a browser and office.
Thank you.i should also add, i have downloaded the app too, but that doesnt recognise that there is a printer there at all.

  • Acer Aspire E3-112 Mouse Cursor Gets Stuck on Screen - Touchpad Unresponsive

Hi guys. I just bought a Windows 8.1 Acer Aspire E3-112-C6YY from Officeworks a week ago. It was the last one left in any store near me. It's been great so far but just last night when I unplugged my USB mouse, I noticed the touchpad stopped responding and the mouse cursor wouldn't move. My partner pressed Fn + F7 then pressed it again and it started working again and was fine until earlier today. The mouse/touchpad randomly 'gets stuck' and even completely stops working and I have to 'turn it on and off again' with those function keys. Sometimes it doesn't work immediately and is still stuck for a couple of seconds. This is happening every 5 minutes or so now. I'm worried it will stop working all together. The USB mouse doesn't do this so I think it's more of the touchpad itself not responding more than anything else. I'm not sure if this is a software issue as the laptop is brand new and everything should be up to date (I've been installing every new Windows Update that comes along) or if it's a hardware issue - I have Acer 1 year warranty but not sure if there's a simple fix for this rather than getting it sent off as my uni semester starts next week and I need it. I've been treating it gently, I don't leave it on all the time, I haven't dropped it or modified it in any way and I can't really take it back as this was the last model and I really like this laptop. Please help. Thanks

In this case, you are advised to reinstall touchpad drivers and check if that work. To do this, follow the steps below:
    1. Go to http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
    2. Type Aspire E3-112 in the box below "Search by Product Model" and click "Search".
    3. Once your product details are displayed on the screen, click "Driver" tab and download the latest touchpad drivers for your model. If you are not aware of which type of touchpad drivers (ELANTECH or Synaptics) you need to install, you are advised to refer to the computer's user manual for details.
    4. Follow on-screen instructions. If the issue still persists, you are advised to take it back to the seller or contact your nearest Acer service center through the following link for further assistance:

  • Certain keyboard keys don't work Acer Aspire V3-571G

Hello, A few months ago I began to have issues with my Acer Aspire V3-571G-9435 where certain keys would intermittently stop working. Most often it would be the "A" key, along with less frequently the "C" and "Z" keys, and somtimes other keys. Within a minute or so they would start working again. A couple weeks ago, however, several of the keys, including the "A" "C" "Z" "F" "," "." and some other keys stopped working altogether (all at once). Following some guides I found online, I took the laptop apart and was able to take the keyboard ribbon cable out of its connector and put it back in, thinking it may be a loose connection issue. However, this did not fix the issue. I went online and ordered a new keyboard from Amazon, thinking the keyboard itself might be broken. After installing the new keyboard however, and entirely NEW set of keys have stopped working, including "J" "Q" "T" "U" "P" "1" and a few other keys. (However most of the keys that weren't working previously are working again). Does anyone have any other suggestions about what I should do? I've been using an external USB keyboard, which works fine, except obviously portability is sacrificed. I'm unsure if this is a hardware or software issue, as a brand new keyboard still isn't working properly. Could there still be something wrong with the connection? Is there a possible software/diver issue? Thanks for any help.

    jmckeen,
A new keyboard means a new ribbon cable so that leaves the only constant, the motherboard; pending the unit was not damaged in any way from like dropping it or spilling something on it. If you are in warranty I would see about creating a repair for it. Here is the link to set up repairs online, or you can chat online with a technician (available 24/7).
