It won’t sleep. The screen goes black but it’s not actually off as it’s actually still dimly lit (dark grey). Pressing the power button does the same thing. Therefore the battery dies quickly. It’s too bad because otherwise, W10 is pretty snappy on the device.

Solved it. When I update sto Windows 10, in device manager, it showed Basic display adapter. I downloaded the driver package from Acer and that fixed it. Now I see Intel display adapter and sleeop is working again.

I am so bummed that my computer will not sleep after installing the 10.6 OS. Every time I put the machine to sleep, that works, but when I tap a key to wake the machine, it restarts. I tried resetting the SMC by unplugging everything and restarting but that did not work. I have 8GB of RAM and the machine is set up for photography (Huey color calibrator (using USB), Wacom Intuos 4 Graphics Tablet (using USB)... Could it be all of these device drivers? Help!

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. The purpose of this test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Ipod touch 2nd generation (works fine), but will not shut off

my ipod touch 2nd gneration works fine, but it will not shut off. This use to work: I would hold down both top and face button for about 10 seconds and it would shut down. Now nothing happens no matter how long I hold those 2 buttons down. Any suggestions?

- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I have had it two years and this is the first issue. My main concern is that the computer does not recognize it in order to reinitialize it. Menu/Select is to reset the device, not turn it off. You need to press and hold the Play/Pause button until the display turns off. Then activate the hold switch.

You should try taking it to the Apple Store and asking for a replacement.
Or you could enable Assistive Touch from Settings>General>Accessibility.

That is incredibly strange! I'm so sorry your son is having this issue. I will be delighted to check into this and see what we can do.
I checked my resources and I didn't see any other recorded reports of this same issue. I truly appreciate you trying to reboot the phone as I would have suggested this as well.

HT1430 my iphone 4s will not shut off. I've tried everyone suggestions but when it looks like it shuts off in a few seconds it comes back on. I've tried every combination of the sleep/wake button and the home button. Nothing works.
