Acer Switch 10 recovery and Windows 10 Upgrade

HI
I am interested will the recovery partition on my Acer Switch 10 be upgraded also to Windows 10 or it will stay wit default Windows 8.1 with Bing?
Also if I use Acer recovery to create factory USB will it be with with Windows 8.1 with Bing or Upgraded Windows 10 Home version?
If it stay with Windows 8.1 with Bing after upgrade can I somehow upgrade that recovery partition to Win 10 or? Thanks

Hello A few things to know about that may save you work. The onboard Recovery Partition is a hidden partition and yes it can be cleaned out. But that is a job for Superman not the faint of heart lol..Partition Magic will find it and format it but to get Windows 10 to go to it ? Do Backup disks /Recovery Disks befor you go online of your Win 10 and do new ones about evey 6 to 8 months after you do a Full Recovery. A clean install ? Well first flat line your HDD at a shop or at a friends house useing a proper HDD external USB canister/over $100.00. And you will get a clean install . The proceedures are far to long to put here but require you know Command Prompt ...or purchase a new HDD if that fits your bill ? It cannot be done in your machine without a repair disk which few make. Now if anyone out there has a cure for installing the purchased Acer recovery disks ? And yes I have tried everything under the sun already except buying a new HDD yet again can you please post it big enough for others to enjoy

  • Lenovo Yoga 3 14 recovery and Windows 10 upgrade

    Hi,
I have a few questions regarding Lenovo Yoga 3 14 recovery and Windows 10 upgrade (should be generic questions that apply to other models as well):
1# Will the Windows 10 update and activation change in any way the Win8.1 OEM serial key stored in BIOS? Is there any chance that any software changes that BIOS OEM key (like malware or similar)?
2# After updating to Windows 10, if I put the USB recovery pen drive (created in Win8.1), will I be able to restore the Win8.1 version (factory restore), and successfully activate it and use it without issues?
3# On a clean drive (without any partitions, like for instance if I buy a new one), if I use the same USB recovery pen drive (created in Win8.1) to do a factory reset, will it re-create all partitions, including the recovery partition one?
    Thanks

    1) Run the Win 10 installation and choose "Upgrade Windows" option. Windows 10 will be installed and it will be activated.
The chance of any software changing the OEM key is insignificant.
    2) Yes, you can recover Win 8.1 successfully. No need to activate it, it will be auto-activated.
    3) I dont have experience with this but reading around the forum I have seen that using a recovery drive on a new HDD may not install windows and re-create partitions.
The recovery partition is the hardest to re-create on a new HDD, even you are able to re-create it the NOVO button usually doesnt work.
Let me know if I answered your questions. Thanks.

  • How to have Snow Leopard, Mavericks with built-in recovery, and Windows 7 (Bootcamp) on my iMac (Intel)?

I would like to have Snow Leopard, Mavericks with built-in recovery, and Windows 7 (Bootcamp) on my iMac (Intel).  Is this possible?  If so, how?  Currently, I have Snow Leopard and Windows 7 (Bootcamp) running on my iMac.  I have enough disk space to split my Snow Leopard partition.  I have read that if I split my Snow Leopard partition, clone my Snow Leopard partition to the new partition, and boot to the new partition, that I may have problems with the Maverick's upgrade because it may not be able to create the recovery parition, or that it may erase the Windows partition, or that it may mess up the Windows boot process.

Simplest is to install Mavs on an ext HD, using FW or TB. I don't do windoze, so can't advise about the Boot Camp and multiple volumes issue. Since there's no Boot Camp, I have four volumes running SL through Mavs.

  • Recovery disc creation and windows 7 upgrade

when i get to disc 3 of recovery disc it shows that it has written the disc but before it cane verify it, it ejects the disc and a screen pops up and says to reinsert the disc, when it is reinserted nothing happens and have to cancel operation, after three times wasting disc to try to get third disc created need a suggestion since seem not to be able to get thru to hp support. also, trying to upgrade from vista to windows 7, after going thru all the things required by the windows upgrade advisor and hp upgrade assist, when windows 7 upgrade disc is installed, get error message that autorun.dll is missing and get error code 0x456 and computer freezes up, and the only way to get disc out of disc drive and get computer to work again is to manually turn it off, and still can't get thru to hp!

    Hi m.tarek,
I doubt that this would possible. Firstly you only ordered an upgrade, that means this version can only be installed on a preinstalled Vista version. Its not a full version that you can install without OS.
Furthermore the recovery files on the second partition (btw, thats an image) contains the Vista OS and not Windows 7. This will not be updated.
Sorry mate, but therefore its necessary always to make this upgrade. Alternative you can create your own image using Acronis True Image or another image software.

  • Recue & recovery and Windows 10

I just tried to make use of the offer and upgrade from W7 to W10. During the upgrade proceedure I got the message (somthing like) "not compatible with recue and recovery" followed by the request to deinstall it. Clearly I hesitate to do that because a lot of recovery and safety features rely on R&R. Now what ???

  • Touchsmart IQ504 and windows 8 upgrade

I tried upgrading my IQ504 from Windows 7 to Windows 8 when it was first released and had no luck. Has anyone had any luck upgrading their 504 yet and if so anything specific I should know? Thanks!

Here are the specs for your HP TouchSmart IQ504 Desktop Computer. According to the specs, this model shipped with Windows Vista 64-bit and was introduced for sale on or about 13-Jul-2008... making it over 5 years old. Due to its age, HP has no intention of providing specific support or drivers for this model. Please read HP's position below.
    THIS is HP's position on Windows 8 support and any HP computer not originally supplied with Windows 8;
    1) Not all Windows 8 features may be available on all PCs.
    2) Your particular experience with Windows 8 will be determined by the capabilities of your PC.
    3) HP is providing upgrade instructions and drivers will be available for most Windows 7 systems sold after 1st October 2011.
    4) If you want to restore the original operating system after upgrading, you must create HP recovery media before you upgrade.
    5) Please note that if you purchased your system prior to October 1, 2011, HP has not tested these PCs or developed Windows 8 upgrade instructions or drivers for them. Upgrading such systems may be difficult or impossible.
    and
    Important information regarding additional limitations and requirements;
    1) Screen Resolution Requirements
    2) Limitations with DVD playback software
    3) Limitations with Blu-ray playback software
    4) Limitations with TV Tuner software
    5) Secure Boot & other UEFI dependent features
    6) Limitations with touch screen capabilities
"Windows 7 (also includes Windows Vista) PCs with touch screens will not have full Windows 8 touch capabilities after upgrade. HP PCs with touch input hardware designed for Windows 7 will provide a comparable experience for only two touch point applications after the upgrade to Windows 8. HP Windows PCs with touch input hardware will not support Windows 8 applications that require more than two simultaneous touch points. Additionally, Windows 8 edge swipes may not be available due to the recessed bezel on HP touch systems shipped with Windows 7."
    7) HP TouchSmart Magic Canvas and HP TouchSmart applications are not compatible with Windows 8 and must be uninstalled before upgrading. Note that content created using the TouchSmart applications such as Graphitti will not be available after upgrading.
With all of that said, you may be able to clean install Windows 8 or upgrade your current OS to Windows 8 and it may work but many of its features may no longer function under Windows 8.

  • Boot partitions with recovery and windows? new SSD drive

    Gang,
I have a new Retina 15 and bought a larger SSD from OWC. I also upgraded  an older MB Air (from 128 to 240GB) and so I had an OWC Envoy with the original 128G from the MB Air in it. Killer by the way with USB3 support. So I plugged the Envoy into the Retina formatted the Envoy and then used that as a back up for the Retina using Time Machine.
I swapped out the old drive in the Retina and then put in the new OWC drive and of course the boot recovery partition was not there and so I plugged in the Envoy which had it and formatted the drive then installed from backup and everything worked fine.
BUT.... I no longer have a recovery or windows partition both of which I would like to have for this machine.
So how do I do that? Reinstall MT LION?
    Thanks
    Gordon

    Gang,
Ok here is how you do it!
First create a MT Lion Recovery disk using Lion Disk Maker:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/39701/lion-diskmaker
Then do a time machine backup to some kind of local drive or as I did my TimeCapsule.
Boot holding down the option key with the Recovery Disk inserted (I made 16 SD card, but a 8G usb stick or the larger DVD writtable drive would work as well) and select to boot to the Recovery Disk. When booted, reformat the root boot drive with GUID partition and then do a full install to your standard boot drive. This will create the recovery partition and load the OS. This is the only way to get the recovery partition created.
When done then select the Drive option when asked for were to upgrade your machine from. Then select the time machine backup which will load all your stuff.
    Your done!
    Thanks
    Gordon

I'm looking to buy a netbook and I found one that I'm interested in and it is in stock at my store. Do I need to buy it online in order to the $60 off the windows 7 upgrade? I can do the store pick-up and get the netbook today if I have to do it that way but I'd rather upgrade it right away instead of waiting for the card/code to be mailed to me.
The netbook has 1gb memory and upgradeable to 2gb, will windows 7 run okay on the samsung netbook with 1gb? I just need to be able to check email and play music - my laptop is going in for repair and it could be a while before I get it back.

Ohh I see what you mean they are offering you $60 dollars if you upgrade to premium.
This is a netbook I wouldn't recomend anything above starter on it which it already has.
Can the netbook run Premium? Yes
Can it do it like a traditional notebook? Not in my opinion
So I wouldn't go for the upgrade if I were you unless you planned to use the upgrade on another system.
Then it would seem you would have to purcahse it online and if I am not mistaking that will be shipped to you even if you opt for instore pickup but I may be wrong. I did something similar during the holidays and the upgrade was shipped even though I had instore pickup for the notebook.

  • Switching between Mac and Windows platforms

    Hi there
Are there any problems with using an external hard drive and moving back and forth between a Mac and a Windows PC? I'm mainly using MS Office documents but am concerned that they might corrupt if I switch back and forth betwen Mac and Windows.
    Any pointers or suggestions?
    Cheers

    Hi Sharif,
Thanks for your answer. If I could just ask for some clarification
Sure thing, tht's why we are here, aren't we ?
If I buy a new external drive, should I then use Disk Utility to format it according to the guidelines you've given?
    1. Start Disk Utility
    2. In the left pane click on the external harddisk
    3. Click on the 'Partition'-Tab in the right pane
    4. Choose 'One Partition'
    5. Choose 'MS-DOS' and enter a "Name"
    6. Click on the 'Options'-Button and set MBR as partition scheme
    7. run the partitioning
And in doing so, this will make the drive stable across platforms?
Has worked for me on a number of external harddisks.
Although I personally share the hatters opinion about NTFS being the better file system.
But as said you have to use a third-party helper in OSX to write to NTFS harddisks.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Forum and windows 7 upgrade

What good is a forum that locks most of the threads?
Many posts about signing up for a windows 7 upgrade, (locked I might add) but has anyone actually received one?
I signed up over a month ago and they have not even got around to sending it yet! In my opinion, this is unacceptable support.. HP knew this was going to be comming for a long time.
I really hate to be one of those folks that says "I'll never buy HP again", especially since my family owns 3 HP laptops.. but come on now.

  • New Satellite L50-C - wont allow updates and windows 10 upgrade, keeps asking to restart

Hi, hope someone can help:I picked up a new laptop yesterday with windows 8.1 installed and followed the prompts to upgrade to windows 10.  The computer downloaded what I presume were the updates for 8.1 to get it up to date before starting the windows 10 installation.  It has also downloaded the data for the windows 10 upgrade as I am now getting the prompt telling me the upgrade is ready to install. However, when I click on 'start the upgrade now' in the windows 10 upgrade box the laptop just restarts and boots back up to a windows 8.1 login.  Once logged into desktop Windows Update opens up and tells me that I need to restart to complete install of updates.  I click on the restart and the computer restarts but with no message telling me during the restart process that updates are installing as you might usually expect.  The boot-up then bring me back to the same point (login screen, then win8.1 desktop and Windows update again popping up asking for a restart).  I have followed these prompts and done several restarts thinking that it is working through bringing the updates in one by one however the update list doesn't vary when I check:  I ran the troubleshooter for update and got the following message: However even after doing this a couple of times I still have the same problem.  After reading up on these forums and elsewhere I tried running sfc/scannow (no issues detected). Can anyone help?

Which Satellite L50-C? There is a label on the bottom.

  • Qosmio G40 and Windows 7 upgrade

    Hi
Can anyone please advise me on why Toshiba has no support for the Qosmio G40 when it comes to windows 7 upgrade?

Thanks, Ivan - that answered my (unasked) question right off the bat!
    Cheers,
    Chris :-)
(Also, a search revealed that if Win7 drivers are not included Vista drivers will work fine - like touch pad, IR, etc.)

  • Not able to switch on WiFi and Bluetooth after upgrading to Windows 10

I was using Windows 7 Home Basic preinstalled with the laptop since 2011. The laptop was working fine. After upgrading to Windows 10 the WiFi and Bluetooth is not working. Tried help from Microsoft remotely. According to them the drivers are not working and there is no updated drivers available for Windows 10 on HP website. The driver installed presently is "Broadcom 4313GN 802.11b/g/n 1x1 Wi-Fi Adapter".Please help and advise whether to stick with Windows 10 or to roll back to Windows 7 as I have an option to purchase a removable device to use WiFi and Bluetooth.I love the lightness of the new operating system. Please help!!!

Just purchased an hp 320-1030 touchscreen with windows 7 operating system. The advertisement was that you could upgrade to windows 8 for $15 and HP would refund the $15.00

    HP Touchsmart 5.0
    HP Touchsmart Music
    HP Touchsmart Browser
