ACFS and Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel

Is supported ACFS on Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel
I get this errror:
ACFS-9459: ADVM/ACFS is not supported on this OS version: '2.6.32-100.20.1.el5
Thanks,

In 11.2.0.2, ACFS is not yet supported on the new Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel - 2.6.32. Supported Linux platforms are:
Enterprise Linux 5 - 2.6.18 kernel series
SLES10 SP3 x86_64 - 2.6.16 kernel series

  • Re: No ASMLIB for Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel - over-sight or ASMLib death?

    Hi,
I originally resurrected a years-old thread that was down in the Oracle Linux forum that was vaguely related to my question but a kind forum moderator split my post away to let it stand on its own -- then moved it to the RAC installation forum where I should have gone to begin with.
    Anyhow, here's my post ...
I am trying to setup Oracle RAC 11gR2 as a prototype on one of the development machine.
During installation/configuration I am facing problems for ASMLib i.e. the asmlib not available. The oracle linux version is 6.1 and the kernel version is is 2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.x86_64 x86_64.
Can you please guide me how to check and install the ubreakable enterpise kernel has got all the required packages with respect to asm configuration.
Please accept apology as I am new to Oracle Linux and not fully aware of the unbreakable Enterprise kernel.
Your help, guidance and reply would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Waseem Shahzad.

  • No ASMLIB for Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel - over-sight or ASMLib death?

Got excited reading about the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, but no asmlib drivers available.
ASMLib kicked off with a roar a few years ago, and it is great - better than UDEV for configuring storage devices for Oracle in my opinion - but the OTN ASMLib page is now buried away - takes ages to find it ( http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/linux/asmlib/index-101839.html ) and hasn't been updated in ages and neither has the ASMLIB project OSS page http://oss.oracle.com/projects/oracleasm-support/.
So is the lack of an ASMLib driver for UEK just an oversight or are we seeing the demise of ASMLib?

The ASMLib driver is built as part of the kernel. When you install the Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel, it's included in the package. Just go right ahead and start it up!
We're updating the online documentation over the next week or so to reflect this. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Re: Beta 1 of Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel Release 3 now available

Hi there Upgraded Oracle Linux To UeK3 but no sign of dtrace command neither btrfs any tips?
    Thank you in advance

    > dtrace -n 'proc:::exec-success { trace(curpsinfo->pr_psargs); }'
Do you have the sdt kernel module loaded?
    > dtrace -n 'syscall:::entry { @num[execname] = count(); }'
Can you elaborate on what you mean with 'no output'?  Did it display a message saying how many probes matched the probe specification?  Did it provide output when you Ctrl-C the dtrace process?
    > dtrace -n 'sysinfo:::readch { @bytes[execname] = sum(arg0); }'
The sysinfo provider is not available for Linux yet.  It is not listed as a supported provider in any documentation for DTrace for Linux to my knowledge.
    > dtrace -p 2952
Userspace tracing is currently limited to USDT probes (i.e. userspace statically defined probed).  The full support for arbitrary probing is in the works.
    Hope this helps,

  • Diff between oracle linux and oracle enterprise linux?

    hi all,
i am new to this flavor of Linux. I know oracle linux has red hat source, but i am confused about the difference betweek oracle linux which comes in versions 4 (upto update 8) and 5 (latest update being 5).
i need to install oracle enterprise linux at a client place, so i gota know the difference.
Should i be installing oracle Linux first and then run the rpm of "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel"? or is the "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel" only for customers who require this kernal on oracle linux update 5 x86_64?
    thanks

From what I understand Oracle Enterprise Linux (OEL) is a rebranded version of Red hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL).
Oracle Linux (OL) is OEL plus Oracle optimization and custom, newer kernel. OL with Oracle "Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel" is available as x86_64 only and was introduced based on OEL or RHEL 5.5.
You can install OEL 5.4 and easily upgrade to OEL 5.5, PMFJI, but can you point me to docs on how to make that upgrade? The timing of this msg on the forum was exquisite, as I started looking at that just today. I have an OEL 5.4 installation and would much rather upgrade to 5.5 than to have to rebuild from scratch.
I did a yum install kernel with the 5.5 version of the public-yum-el5.repo. That went without a hitch and now reports "2.6.32-100.0.19.el5 #1" where I was 2.6.18-164.el5, but I also see
    [root@myserver ~]# uname -a
    Linux myserver 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5 #1 SMP Fri Sep 17 17:51:41 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    [root@myserver ~]# cat /etc/enterprise-release
Enterprise Linux Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Carthage)
    [root@myserver ~]# cat /etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.4 (Tikanga)Bottom line is that I am charged with updating the kernel to a 2.6 version newer than 19 Sep, or applying a patch for the compat_alloc_user_space() function, and am not sure exactly how to proceed from here.
if you like or start to install from version 5.5, and then install OL 5.5 by downloading the Oracle public yum repository and follow the instructions at http://public-yum.oracle.com

  • Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux come with an ndiswrapper kernel module?

    Hello
Does Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux come with an ndiswrapper kernel module?
Does Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux come with a package for the ndiswrapper kernel module that matches the kernel version?
What wireless driver is compatible with Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux?

    Hi,
Oracle Unbreakable Linux does not come with any ndiswrapper kernel module and any package for ndiswrapper module. But it includes many wireless network drivers. You can look at them from kernel package. For example
    rpm -qlp kernel-2.6.18-8.el5.i686.rpm |grep wireless
From the output, you can find which wireless drivers are coming with Oracle Unbreakable Linux kernel.

  • Is RDAC supported in Oracle Unbreakable Linux kernel 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5?

    Dear,
Is RDAC supported in Oracle Unbreakable Linux Kernel 2.6.32-100.0.19.el5?
If supported, please point to the download link.
We require this in order to plan for the OEL 5.5 kernel upgrade to ULK and to connect SUN SAN storage array 6180.
    Thanks,
    ...basha

From what I can gather you will need to compile the driver from source in order to use the RDAC driver with the UEK kernel. Chances are that it won't compile properly under the UEK kernel, which is more up to date than the RHEL kernel.
You will have to start the system from the supplied original RHEL kernel in order to use the binary IBM RDAC driver distribution. The following is available: http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/rdac/ds4000.aspx and http://www.lsi.com/sep/Pages/rdac/ds3000.aspx
You may however be able to use Multipath, which is build in also in the UEK kernel. To get the current supported configurations for IBM System Storage it is best to use the interoperability matrices located at http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/storage/product/interop.html. You can use the link to the "System Storage Interoperation Center (SSIC)" to query your specific configuration (http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/ssic/interoperability.wss)

How many of you uses "Oracle Unbreakable Enterprise Linux"? I am just curious as Linux user for many years, I like it stable and with a very nice look and feel Linux and because of that I just wanted to know how many more for you uses it.
Looking forward to see the number or responses counting up. :-)

Not I, it's CentOS or RHEL for me. I just don't see the point in the Oracle distro until they get it so that you don't need to do prereqs to install Oracle.

    1. Which among the both i.e. Netweaver XI and the Enterprise Portal is better in terms of fetching the job and making a bettre career in it.?
    2. Also which one is more in Demnad within and outside India ?
Any other Information on these topics would definitely help.

    Hi Deepak,
I agree with Subbarao. If u have gud command on ABAP then go for XI.And if u r technically sound in JAVA then go for EP which comprises of Knowledge Management and collaboration, portal and webdynpro. Both have gud value in the market right now.
For learning material in EP plz go through the below mentioned threads:

  • ABAP+Java Kernel and only Java Kernel

    Hi Friends,
Is there any difference in ABAP+Java Kernel and only Java Kernel?
Can we use the kernel for above both from the same location as below?
    1#
    Support Packages and Patches> Additional Components> SAP Kernel> SAP KERNEL 64-BIT UNICODE> SAP KERNEL 6.40 64-BIT UNICODE
    Following Files
    DB Dependent  - ORACLE
              SAPEXEDB_175-20000227.SAR
              DBATL640O92_44-20000227.SAR
    Database Independent
              SAPEXE_175-20000226.SAR
Assuming above SAR files contain R3trans, R3load, tp ,... also.
    2#
As per my knowledge SAP has given one more path to download J2EE SP's which contains Kernel and J2EE Support Packages.
http://service.sap.com/patches --> Support Package and Patches -> Entry by Application Group -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NetWeaver 04 -> Entry by Component -> Application Server Java -> SAP J2EE Engine 6.40 -> J2EERT19_0-10001982.SAR/J2EERT20_0-10001982.SAR (OS Independent) and CTRLDB219_0-20000114.SAR(OS Dendependent)
What is the difference between above two kernels?
1# contains R3trans, R3load, tp ...etc which is exclusively used by ABAP Stack related functions. The startsap script used here would check R3trans -d authentication successful before starting database and then only it starts the database from sidadm. I observed OPS$ users available in only ABAP schema SAPSID but not available in SAPSIDDB. If I use the kernel downloaded from 1# for Java Stack only system, startsap would fail as R3trans authentication fail as there is no ABAP schema in Java systems.
This applies well for ABAP+JAVA or only ABAP based systems.
If I use only JAVA Stack based system can I use the kernel downloaded from 1# . What is the kernel and SP available in 2#? Is this also contains the same kernel given in 1# or it is different. I also observed in JAVA they are not calling Kernels by Patch No like 154, 175... they call it by SP19. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Did anyone come accross this type if issue? I would appreciate if anyone can clarify my questions given above.
My main target is to have clear strategy for ABAP+JAVA, ABAP, JAVA kernels to avoid mess up. Which one to download? What is best practice? Differences?
    Thanks and Regards
    Prasad

    Hi Sacha,
Thank a lot for your answer I am clear now. Before rewarding points to you.
    I have final question.
You mean that there is not seperate kernel for Java Stack Systems.. When we apply SP11 or SP19 by default it applies Kernel and also support packages w.r.t the SP. Do we have option to seperate Kernel and Support package while applying SP's for Java System?
If we take for example SAP NW 2004 (WAS 640) latest kernel is 175 (I mean ABAP+JAVA). If I want to know the latest kernel for Java Stack system, Do I need to say it is at level SP19 or check the sapwebdisp -V (Resepctive patch level)?
For ABAP system we check disp+work -V to get the source kernel version. How to justify the source kernel version for Java System?
As per SAP Note: 710914 - Upgrading the J2EE Engine Startup Framework after applying SP for Java System, Do we need to upgrade J2EE Startup Framework?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Prasad

  • What's the difference between Java SDK and the Enterprise Edition?

What's the difference between Java SDK and the Enterprise Edition? Are they both free?

both r free but they are used in diffrent applications. sdk are used for simple apps that run on your computer while j2e (enterprise edition) are ment for large distributed computer systems that include servers and such. if you don't know the diffrence you probably wont need the the j2e, only the sdk.

  • Airport Express broadcasting both WPA2 Personal and WPA2 Enterprise?

We were recently scanning for wireless access points for a client using a product called Vistumbler.  The client had two older Airport Express wireless routers, set to use WPA2 Personal, but Vistumbler was detecting both WPA2 Personal and WPA2 Enterprise during the scans. Has anyone else seen this before with any other routers or scanning software? If so, was there a way to only broadcast the current encryption setting?

The AirPorts can be set to WPA2 Personal.......OR........WPA2 Enterprise, but only one setting can be activated at a time.
In the highly unlikely event that the AirPort Express devices are really broadcasting with two different types of encryption, the devices either have corrupted software settings, or they are defective.
Try another scanner......like WiFi Scanner, located in the Utilities folder of the Mac,  or another application to see if you get the same results.

  • What's the deal with Intel and the new kernel?

    Hi
I have trouble understanding the whole deal behind Intel's video drivers and the new kernel. What doesn't work and why? Could someone please try to explain what the problem is in a way so that a newbie like me can understand it?
    Thanks

Intel and Linux are transitioning to a new graphics system. We're in the middle of the transition, so everything's kinda suckish right now. Old kernel and drivers are better, development kernel and drivers are almost as good, and they will get much better soon.
