Achieving that gold-tone effect

Hi all -
I'll be trekking about 100 miles for a morning outside shoot here in Arizona. I need to capture an old town from a hillside, looking down on it.
My vantage point will be great, with the sun in the rear over my left shoulder. Unfortunately I won't know the weather conditions at the time.
I would like the finished footage to have that gold-tone effect. I'm not sure how to describe it other than a gold-ish hue to the footage. I'm sure I can post in the effect, but usually it'll gold-tone the entire scene, where I'm looking for gold-highlighting and a slight gold edging effect. I've seen this effect in a wedding video but have been unable to find the 'how-to' post on it.
If this is more of a AFTER EFFECTS issue, I'll further the post there. Just wondering if any of you brilliant repliers have some info for me.

Great story Bill. I do appreciate the work that went into it during 'those days'. To be honest, I'm more mechanically inclined than keyboard inclined and still love to 'rig' stuff, just 'cause it's stuff and not some vapor thing in a little electronic box. Bet you ten bucks to a cops donut that if a virus hit, your stuff would still be standing. If a fellow named NORTON (ahem) came by, you're stuff would still be working.
Right now, my FILM VAN is loaded with ladders, home made dolly tracks, home made steady cam rigs and home made (you name its), not to mention at least a mile of audio, video, patch and electrical cables (gotta support the local copper companies, it's our heritage). I love the field of documentation, and especially visual documentation.
I think if we ask for a show of hands from THIS group at least, we shall rename it the 'BILL HUNT' effect.
Show of hands? (one vote cast thus far- wait, my dog just held up his paw, that counts too). TWO VOTES.
LOL, so what did you think of the gold-toning effect?

I have viewed the video whose link you posted.
If it is that differing letterboxing effect that you seek, then consider...
1. Premiere Elements 12/12.1 on Windows 8 64 bit, crop each video clip using fx Effects/Transform/Crop using the Top and Bottom options when you edit the crop
effect under Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Crop Panel expanded.
2. For the fuzzy left right edge effect for the letterboxed video, consider applying Edge Feather to the letterboxed video. See fx Effects/Transform/Edge Feather. Editing
of the Edge Feather is done under Appied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Edge Feather Panel expanded.
I am still wondering if the "effect" in that video was the result of creating a specific effect or rather what resulted in the necessity to fit videos of different formats
into what appears to be a 16:9 space.
The above is my first impression on the matter.

Achieving a Camera Flash effect in FCE HD?

Hello.
I am trying to achieve a camera flash effect in FCE HD, but I don't think there is any effect that will do this. Does anybody have any ideas of how I can go about creating my own?
Basically I have a scene where there is a group of people in the film, and I want to add sounds like a camera shutter going off, and add a corresponding number of flashes to illuminate the group for a few seconds.
Any ideas? I am sure there was an effect like this for iMovie, but I can't find any reference to that either...

I'd like to add to what Tom wrote...I find that two frames is just about right to produce the flash effect.
As for the sound, start looking on the many sound effects websites out there. I'm sure you will find it and can download it for a reasonable fee. Or you can make it yourself by recording your own camera's shutter.

You can find those option under Rating Settings under Library settings, you can select whether you need to give star rating or Like/Unlike fashion.

If you purchased Lion for your iMac, just log into the Mac App Store from your MacBook using the Apple ID under which you purchased Lion and go to the Purchases page. You will be able to download and install Lion there.

The only place you get get Lion is from the Mac App Store. If you found some other site, that was an illegal copy and almost certainly tied to someone else's Apple ID and hence unusable by you. If the link was just to the Mac App Store, see above.
As to the problem with synchronization to iCloud, that's not a 10.6 question, so I'd suggest you take up that specific issue in either the Lion or iCloud forums, providing full details, and someone there can probably help you sort things out.

Things You Can Do To Resolve Slow Downs
If your computer seems to be running slower here are some things you can do:
Start with visits to:     OS X Maintenance - MacAttorney;

Boot into Safe Mode then repair your hard drive and permissions:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions Pre-Lion
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.

Restart your computer normally and see if this has helped any. Next do some maintenance:
For situations Disk Utility cannot handle the best third-party utility is Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible.
Note: Alsoft ships DW on a bootable DVD that will startup Macs running Snow Leopard or earlier. It cannot start Macs that came with Lion or later pre-installed, however, DW will work on those models.
Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or later and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive.

If you require anti-virus protection I recommend using VirusBarrier Express 1.1.6 or Dr.Web Light both from the App Store. They're both free, and since they're from the App Store, they won't destabilize the system. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.)
Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaner, or Cocktail that you can use for removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc. Corrupted cache, log, or temporary files can cause application or OS X crashes as well as kernel panics.
If you have Snow Leopard or Leopard, then for similar repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. Applejack does not work with Lion and later.
Basic Backup
For some people Time Machine will be more than adequate. Time Machine is part of OS X. There are two components:
1. A Time Machine preferences panel as part of System Preferences;
2. A Time Machine application located in the Applications folder. It is
    used to manage backups and to restore backups. Time Machine
    requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
    drive being backed up.
Alternatively, get an external drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
1. Carbon Copy Cloner
2. Get Backup
3. Deja Vu
4. SuperDuper!
5. Synk Pro
6. Tri-Backup

Additional Hints
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer has less than 2 GBs of RAM and you are using OS X Leopard or later, then you can do with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion work much better with 4 GBs of RAM than their system minimums. The more concurrent applications you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always maintain at least 15 GBs or 10% of your hard drive's capacity as free space, whichever is greater. OS X is frequently accessing your hard drive, so providing adequate free space will keep things from slowing down.
Check for applications that may be hogging the CPU:
Pre-Mavericks
Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. If you find a process using a large amount of CPU time (>=70,) then select the process and click on the Quit icon in the toolbar. Click on the Force Quit button to kill the process. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.
Mavericks and later

Often this problem occurs because of a corrupted cache or preferences file or an attempt to write to a corrupted log file.

We have some many machanical drawings in pdf format, they are 1,000 + , I want to manage those drawings, like put them in a database table, possibly in blob format, and then show them in my apex app as an icon of pdf. then if somebody clicks that icon, the drawings will show in another windows, like many websites did.
How to achieve that in an apex app?

No you can't get any viruses. I take it's the default camera app that came with the phone that's not saving the applied filters before the photo is taken? Are you opening these photos in the Photos app on your phone or after downloading them on your computer?

I can't give you the exact settings but you could use Trapcode Particular with a custom particle or CC Particle world. Just turn gravity to 0 and set up a custom particle.
Your particle layer will be behind the spinning hearts layer. This should get you going in the right direction.

If you can hide the status bar, it would be an option inside the app. I have one or two apps where that is an option but in most apps it is not.

How would I achieve a "magnify" image effect on an image that is only visible on "hover"

I have come to understand that Adobe Edge Animate can now load external javascript script into projects. So I would like to use this feature to load a "maginfy/zoom" effect onto an image that will be revealed once a button is clicked on. To clarify the process I had in mind would go something like this:
1. There is a map the user can view
2. When a user hovers thier mouse over sections of the map a "callout box" would appear
3. Inside that "callout box" would be further information about that particular section as well as an image
4. When the user hovers over that image, it would magnify similar to this: http://www.elevateweb.co.uk/image-zoom/examples (see the "inner zoom" example)
I've tried loading the elevatezoom.js script into a project, but I don't quite understand how I would apply this effect to a "hidden" image. Most effects like this rely on external css styles, as well as specific "ID" names in order to call the function. Once the project is saved and published, when I try to view the HTML to add those "ID" names my images are not viewable.
Would someone mind helping me with this? I'd be most grateful.

After added the external scipts (jquery-1.7.1.min.js, jquery.zoom-min.js) I was able to get the magnify effect to work on a image that is revealed upon hover. I've uploaded an example for anyone who would want to do this as well.

How to achieve psychedelic rock video effects

I'm trying to achieve effects using After Effects (or premiere) for a psychedelic rock video of a live band performing on stage.
I remember in the old days I had effects that were built into the camera - one in particular where the camera would zoom in and out and leave colored trace outlines of the edges.
Does anyone have any tips, resources or tutorials for creating pschedelic rock video effects in After Effects?

That stuff was shot in the studio, and it was video feedback. If you're talking about the gloopy-looking colored & animated backgrounds that showed up behind a band, that was done with colored water, colored oil and a couple of clear-glass plates mooshed around.
"Gloopy" and "mooshed" are both highly-technical terms.
