ACL missing on Library

While repairing permissions i get the message: "ACL missing on Library".
Not the more common "ACL found but not expected on Library."
Any ideas on how to correct my "ACL missing on Library" message?

Calm down there.
1) OK then, well please tell me how a Unix permission of drwx------ is going to allow the group 'everyone' to delete that folder inside my home folder? As they cannot touch it or even navigate into it.
2) "Protect users from themselves"?? but the ACL you mention is for the group "everyone" which you said was to stop "a malicious script that attempts to delete the contents of the home folder". So how is the user who owns the files classed as "everyone". Anyway if a malicious script was going to wreak havoc on a machine it would not go in with the group with almost zero rights - "everyone". It would hitch a ride on the user's account, or go for gold and get root access. Sorry, not logical.
3) The folders in question _are in the user's home folder_, they belong to the user. So the statement "stops any user, with the exception of root, from deleting the files/folders" seems a bit... odd... don't you think? So root (who on a personal machine is usually no-one) is going to protect me from myself and stop me deleting my own files in my own home folder? Sorry, not logical.
4) You should be careful before you make statements in bold like "that post above me contains BAD advice" giving as your justification statements which don't hold up to logic.
5) You did not have a response to my point 2.

The permissions/ACLs on my home drive are as they were in my fully patched Tiger machine, and as were migrated across during the Leopard install. So your statement regarding these extra ACLs "those are set by Apple to enhance system security" sort of doesn't make sense does it. So... did Apple make a mistake when it didn't set the (superfluous) ACLs on my machine, or did Apple make a mistake when it did set the (superfluous) ACLs on your machine? So which Apple is wrong - yours or mine - because Apple did both actions.

  • ACL Missing message in Disk Utility

I changed my main HD on my MacPro and used Disk Utility to copy my System "Macintosh HD" to the new disk.
Everything seems OK, I can start up, but when I did a "verify permissions" on the "new" system disk I get many "ACL missing on "System/Library/User/Template/..."
    as well as one
    "ACL missing on "Volumes"
Is this serious? Can I "repair" safely?

For some reason "asr" {Apple System Restore} (Disk Utility uses asr for backups),
    http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/m an8/asr.8.html
did not transfer the ACL information back to your system installation.
Unfortunately permission repair won't fix ACL problems, it will only tell you about them.
"System/Library/User/Template/..." is the directory the System uses to grab the map (template)
for new User accounts. The missing acl's are the usual generic variety (everyone deny delete) placed
    on user's folders.
The one missing on /Volumes is:
    "everyone deny addfile,add_subdirectory,directory_inherit,onlyinherit"
"What if I run SL without these ACL's?"
Maybe nothing, maybe trouble, I don't really know. I do know they are part of SL's System design.
If it were me, I would reinstall Snow leopard, you won't lose any data. Just startup from the
Install DVD and install over the existing system (do NOT reformat), then later re-apply updates
after you verify everything is working properly.

  • Photoshop 5 Installed on New Win7 computer missing a library to work

Had purchased Photoshop Elements 5 (don't use Photoshop alot) and when tried to install on new computer after old one crashed has error message that it is missing a library--won't work.  Same as I installed on XP machine.  New machine has Win7 but has an XP option activated.  What's wrong?  Do I need to download something?  Don't use Elements much but like it when I need to edit a photo.  Can't I still use Elements after old XP computer crashed? I don't really want to spend more after buying new machine with Win7Pro and XP Option activated.  Thats why I returned Vista--not compatable with 10K of software.  Any ideas?  Thanks  Bob

Most people find they are able to run photoshop elements 5 on windows 7 without using the xp mode.
Just copy the cd/dvd contents to your hard drive, right click on the installer and choose Run As administrator.
Then install this patch for photoshop elements 5
(yes it says for vista, but it works on windows 7 32 or 64 bit as well)

  • "missing or invalid personalization information missing resource library" On CS2

    Problem:
I just installed CS2 on my Gateway Desktop the other day. I was unable to use CS2 because I maxed out my serial code on another laptop for work. I went a head and deactviated the serial for CS2 and uninstalled it on the laptop. So I could use the CS2 on my Gateway Desktop and transfer the serial code.
I go to my Desktop and the CS2 still won't load right.  Okay, so I try to uninstall the CS2.  But there's no uninstall file and it's not showing up in the uninstall manager in Windows 7. So go a head and delete the majority of the CS2 in my program files and then try reinstall a fresh copy of CS2.  I get an error "missing or invalid personalization information missing resource library."
How can I get around that new error? So I can reinstall a working copy of CS2 on my desktop. It's a bit frustrating.  Anybody experience the same problem?   Any insight would be great.  Thanks

    Intel 2 quad CPU Q8400 @2.66

Thanks for the link, I tried following the directions to further removing the components but had no luck.  So I went a head and reformated the computer so I can reinstall a clean CS2.
Good new is it's not nagging about a inproper serial now.  Bad new is whenever I try to install the CS2 in the C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe It says "The path you selected for installation contains unsupported characters.  Please choose a different folder for installation, so I try C:\Program Files (x86)\adobe2.  I still get that prompt blocking me.
I did some homework on compatability issues like mention. Some people mention to reclick and and select compatability tab and service pack 3 as admin.  I gave that a go.  All that did was reboot the computer.  A few people claim that got CS2 working for windows 7 already here, other's couldn't:

  • Files missing from library after archive and install

    Hi forum folk
any help you could give would be much appreciated.
I can't seem to verify my permissions on HD. I have run disk utility both from finder and from my OSX startup disk and consistently get the error message "Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and cannot continue." I then reinstalled the operating system all together making sure to archive and install as well as archive previous network and preference settings. This means I am running 10.3.4 at the moment (and I can't verify any of the software updates at the moment). After reinstalling I still cannot verify my permissions, so now I am trying to back up all my files so that I can reinstall the OSX again, erase everything, and start from scratch. But I'm running into some very strange problems while doing this. select files are missing from ~/library. there is no Safari file, for example. I tried looking in HD/previous systems/library where my library files were saved before I reinstalled the operating system but there is no such folder in there either. this means all of my bookmarks are gone. additionally, under library/preferences (in both the old and new library folders) there is no file named com.apple.itunes.plst. so all of my itunes playlists are gone as well. these are the only missing files I have found thus far and i can't explain why they selectively would not have been saved after the archive and install. Everything else seems to be intact. Any ideas?
    thanks

    powerbookG4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   running 10.3.4 at the moment - can't verify permissions on 10.3.9

    jbeep:
my HD has a capacity of 8.85 GB available. When I reinstalled panther I had little more than 3 GB available (I deleted a bunch of unneeded things since then)
Thanks for this update. What is the total formatted capacity of your HDD? I ask because I suspected that you might be cutting it pretty close. The rule of thumb is that you should have 10-15% of your total capacity available as free space. My personal rule is 15%-20%. This allows for more efficient perfomrance of OS X.
I am in the process of backing up everything on my seagate combo USB 2.0/firewire 200 GB external (I am using the firewire cord)
Having an up-to-date backup is one of the primary rules, often observed more in the breach than not. Since you have an HDD that supports Firewire, I suggest that you make a bootable clone of your entire HDD using SuperDuper. You can then use this backup as an emergency boot drive. However, it must be Firewire, as PPC Macs don't boot from USB devices.
I also have heard that it is advisable to reinstall the OS "every now and again" and I hadn't done this for at least two years. was I ill-advised?
Most experienced Mac users never re-install, except under dire circumstances. Since installing my new HDD in this computer I have never re-installed. Re-installation is the utlimate intrusive measure, and it exposes one to all kinds of issues, from lost data, to flawed installaton, to installations that fail midstream. Re-installation is not an effective maintenace procedure. Here are some helpful links in terms of maintenance:
Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System maintenance
    Macintosh OS X Routine Maintenance
    Maintaining OS X.
I'm going to restart now and try and verify my permissions again using the procedure on the above link. I'll let you know what happens.
Instead of verifying permissions, just go ahead and Repair Disk Permissions. Verifying permissions does nothing, and wastes your time, as it is difficult to tell whether you need to repair, and you have to repair anyway.
Do post back with an update of your progress and any further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • Adobe CS2 uninstall (as administrator, no antivirus) fails on Windows with "Missing or Invalid Personalization Information", "Missing resources library"

My previously fully functional Adobe CS2 install on Windows 7 x64 stopped working when the activation service for CS2 was shut down.
I tried to follow the re-installation instructions at the following web page which first require a complete uninstall of Adobe CS2:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/creative-suite-2-activation-end-life.htm l
Running as a local administrator in elevated mode and without a running antivirus (in fact, with an uninstalled antivirus), I get the following error message and the uninstaller refuses to run:
The installer could not start because of the following reasons:
    Missing or Invalid Personalization Information
    Missing resources library
I searched the forums and found matching threads such as these:
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1602420
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1547148
    https://forums.adobe.com/thread/986439
but they seem to suggest insufficient privileges or an interfering antivirus.
I opened a chat support case (case number: 0214720731) responded to by @Arunkumar who sent me back to the forums.  When I said similar queries had not been resolved for months, he promised to escalate to his "senior product expert" team to post a solution.  I am posting this message in the hope they will respond with useful suggestions as I do not want to do a complete Windows re-install of an otherwise perfectly functional computer just because the Adobe uninstaller doesn't work.

You have insufficient privileges to access the registry or your virus scanner is blocking it. Nothing Adobe can fix for you, you need to find the culprit on your system and/ or fix the registry permissions as explained here:

  • ACL missing fix and other general permissions fix

i've been having huge preferences and permissions problems since upgrading to mavericks.
i've repaired my permissions and i keep having the "ACL missing" or "ACL found but not expected" results.
i've read some places that you don't need to fix them they don't hurt anything, but they're annoying as **** and
i would still like to make them go away to see if it fixes my permission and preferences problems, like photoshop
    preferences resetting all the time.
it would be great if anyone could give me a link to a fix or any ideas.  thanks.

I found the same problem on my Mac but this did not happen immediately after installing Mavericks. I really have no clue how it happened. The fix is (appropriate buyer beware fine print) is to either use ACLr8 or to do it manually in a Terminal session. It worked with mine. I found this fix on the net somewhere (cannot remember where though).
For example with the iTunes folder -
    sudo chmod -RN /Applications/iTunes.app
(enter your user password when asked)
Just repeat this with all other folders reported in Disk Utility.
I would hesitate applying this fix at the / folder since it may be possible some files/folders require the special ACL permissions.

  • Firefox 19 MISSING Bookmarks Library's Search filter feature, why?

    Good Day,
Has anyone else noticed the following issue?:
    Re Firefox 19.0 Bug/Broken Feature
MISSING Bookmarks Library's Search filter feature.
ie: select "Show All Bookmarks" => enter a search string in 'Search Bookmarks' eg:win
    => MISSING "Search in:" filter(s)
This has been present in all previous Firefox versions before 19.0, and it is a VERY VALUABLE feature.
    Any ideas/suggestions?
    Thank You Very Much,

  • MIssing folder Library/Application Support/iCal folder

Hope this is in the correct discussion!
This folder is missing from my MBP. On Time Machine, I can't find it and have gone back to March 2012 when TM starts.
Does it create itself and what data would it hold?
I've lost all my iCal calendars and have a back up at 18/7/12. I've restored Library/Calendars but the entries don't show up in iCal. I'm told I need to restore Library/Application Support/iCal folder, but it's not there.
I've created a current entry (in a new calendar) but still no Library/Application Support/iCal folder.
Should I be trying to create it manually, somehow I don't think so?
    Thanks for any help.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide ~/Library/Application Support/iWork/Keynote/Themes/ as the path.

  • Missing kig library [solved itself]

I installed kdeedu-kig and when I run it, it gives a couple warnings about Dbus connection created before QCoreApplication.  Application may behave.  When the application starts, all I get is the message
Could not find the necessary Kig library, check your installation.
Not sure what I'm missing, I already have kdeedu-kstars and kdeedu-kmplot which run fine.
Apparently this is a problem on the Windows port, something to do with kigpart.dll.  I think I have installed kig in the past before, but when I installed it today, the message is all I get.

  • Text labels missing under Library and Viewer icons in V31

I just built a multi-folio app with DPS Pro Edition. I specified V31. When I preview the resulting Developer app on my iPad, the text under the small "Library" and "Viewer" icons at the bottom of the screen is missing. The Library and Viewer icons are there, but the space below the icon where the words "Library" and "Viewer" should appear is missing.
I didn't select "Use Customized Strings" or anything like that when I built the app in DPS App Builder. Any ideas?

Sent the details to your email. If you can:
Can you try to build a new app and see if the labels are missing?
If the app is for both ipad/iphone try to rebuild for ipad only?
Check the app builder version number?

  • Error: DAQ-STC Counter functions missing from library

Using LabView 6.1, NI-DAQ 6.6.1 for MacOS on a laptop.
    DAQ Hardware: DAQCard 16E-4.
When trying to use the advanced counter functions (for DAQ-STC type counters), LabVIEW generates an error saying that it can't find the function in the library. The code interface nodes for the VIs don't seem to be attached to anything. I've installed the latest version of DAQ Drivers for Mac; am I missing something here? Any insight into this problem would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    jdk

    Hi jdk,
I think it could be just an installation issue. I assume that you are using Mac 9.1. I've run LV 6.1 with NIDAQ 6.6.1 on Mac 9.1 and it works just fine, including DAQ-STC counter functions.
If LabVIEW 6.1 was installed without DAQ support, run the LabVIEW 6.1 installer and perform a custom installation for DAQ support. Then, run
    the NI-DAQ 6.6.1 installer to upgrade NI-DAQ.
    Hope this helps.
