ACL on WLC 5508
We received this question on our Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/CiscoSupportCommunity
ACL on WLC 5508 ,
i want to create saperate WLAN which has no access of my LAN and trafiic can directly go to the internet through switch-firewall-internet.
how can i achive this
pls help ...
You can configure the ACL on the controller itself:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk722/tk809/technologies_configuration_example09186a00807810d1.shtml
Personally I find it easier to just configure the ACLs on the layer-3 interface for the subnet that the guest clients are on. Performance is also typically better if you put the ACL there too.

Urgent: ACL on WLC 5508 + Transperant Proxy
Hello,
I'm doing some experiment on a test SSID to configure ACL for limited resources on our Wired/Wireless network.
I'm/using and I would like to use Web Authentication page. I have created an ACL under Access Control List namely, ICT. With this, I have created an ACL rules as follows;
Seq Action Source IP/Mask Destination IP/Mask Protocol Source Port Dest Port DSCP Direction Number of Hits
1 Permit 1.1.1.1 / 32 0.0.0.0 /0.0.0.0 TCP Any Any Any Outbound
2 Permit 0.0.0.0 / 32 1.1.1.1 /32 TCP Any Any Any Inbound
3 Permit 0.0.0.0 / 32 192.168.10.190 /32 UDP DNS Any Any Inbound
4 Permit 192.168.10.190/32 0.0.0.0 /0.0.0.0 UDP DNS Any Any Outbound
5 Permit 0.0.0.0 / 32 Proxy-vIP /32 Any Any Any Any Inbound
6 Permit Proxy-vIP / 32 0.0.0.0 /0.0.0.0 Any Any Any Any Outbound
The authentication page comes fine, but as soon as I entered the username and password correctly, the page it doesn't redirect and IE error shows The Page cannot be displayed.
In the Edit Page of the WLAN ->Security -> Layer 3, I have selected the Preauthentication ACL as ICT, but still I can't browse the Internet..
Any help, highly appreciated.
Regards,Hello,
The Web Authentication proxy is for organizations who is having Explicit proxy in their browsers and want to implement Authentication Page from WLC. Sorry, this solution is not for what I'm intended to do.
I have created a test ACL as below and the internet started working, but this rule is nothing actually, becuase I started reaching everything on other vLANs.

ACL blocking traffic towards the management interface on WLC 5508
Hello All,
I need to apply an ACL in WLC 5508 such that it would allow https traffic on management interface only from selected clients.
For same, I have created an ACL permitting only the intended users while blocking the rest. Have applied the same on the management interface.
However still the access from all devices to management interface is not blocked. The ACL hit count too is not incremented.
I am on WLC code 8.0.110.0.
Has anyone else faced similar issue while applying ACL against management interface.
Highly appreciate the inputs.
Thanks and Regards,
AdnanHi Adnan,
you have to apply this ACL as a CPU ACL. Then it will work.
For your reference:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/wireless/4400-series-wireless-lan-controllers/109669-secure-wlc.html#t4
Hope that helps...
Kind regards
Philip

We already have WCL 5508 setup with several SSIDs. We plan to create a new one and assign to new VLAN. However:
1. About 240 devices, laptops, IPods, etc will be connecting to that single SSID - is there any way to resolve that? I don't want to create multiple vlans and ssids for 30 devices.
2. I would like to create ACCT and Service SSID and have them access different vlans: for example
ACCT should have access to printer, server, Internet access
Service only Internet and server access. Can I use ACL in WLC 5508? WLC 5508 is connected 8x to 3750 > 4900 > ASA 5510. There are only 2 and total would be 5 ACC list on it. Is this will be better idea to put ACC list on 3750 or 4900 or even ASA?
I am new to WLC controller and trying to figure it out asap. Thank You.
-JohnHi John,
1. 240 devices per SSID is not a huge number. If you are concern about number of IP addresses available in a single vlan, you can always use interface group(or vlan select feature) to map multiple vlan to the same SSID. Refer below for better understanding of that feature
http://mrncciew.com/2013/01/27/understanding-vlan-select-feature/
AP-Group is another option, but above is much easier from administration point of view.
2. Yes, 4900 seems like best place to control inter-vlan traffic as that is the place where you define L3 interface (or gateway) of each of these user vlan

Hi, how are you?. Sorry by my questions and thanks for the patience.
I have a doubt. CPU ACL affects only the traffic of the management interface?.
For example:
Controller WLC 5508 version 7.0.98.0
Interface management IP address 186.108.26.2/24
Interface XX IP address 190.139.109.101
I have configured the following ACL and applied to CPU ACL:

I have the following doubts
It is not necessary to allow the ports of tunnel capwap?.
I have applied this ACL and traffic from Interface XX to 190.139.109.101 is filter. If I remove CPU ACL traffic to interface XX is permit. Then CPU ACL affect all interfaces???.Hi,
better a late reply than no reply at all ...
The CPU ACL actually filters traffic that is destined to one of the WLC ip addresses, so it works on all interfaces, but does not filter all types of traffic. Only traffic that is destined to the WLC itself.
So if you apply a CPU ACL, it is likely you need to either allow capwap ports or allow everything in the subnet where APs are.

Cisco ISE 1.2 & Cisco WLC 5508 v7.6
Hi all,
we are planning to upgrade our WLC to 7.6 to fix a bug with FlexConnect Client ACLs but I have just seen on the Cisco ISE Compatibility table that the it only recommends up to v7.5 of the WLC 5508...
Cisco have told me to steer clear of 7.5 as it is in a defferred status, so does anyone know, or have running in a lab or production, ISE1.2 with a 5508 WLC v7.6 NAD ?
I would much rather know of any issues people are experiencing before hand than to have to go through a software upgrade and then rollback.
Thanks all
Mario De RosaHi Neno,
right I have this almost working now.
I have simplified the setup. I am not going to do any client provisioning at the moment.
So I can connect to the corporate SSID using EAP-TLS and I can successfully push the branch data VLAN upon successful authorisation.
Now I am trying to introduce the posture element & per user ACLs.
I have defined the redirect ACL & Flex ACL on the vWLC however the NAC agent will not pop-up. The client is in the right VLAN and the redirect ACL seems to be getting applied as the client does get an IP through DHCP. However, the client cannot ping the ISE or access the guest portal when I open the browser.
DNS resolution seems to be working fine.
VLAN220 is my datacentre VLAN which the Management Interface on the controller is plugged in to.
VLAN10 is the branch DATA VLAN.
below is some output to give you some more details...

Can you see any obvious reason why the NAC agent wont pop up?
Thanks

We have deployed a WLC 5508 w/ SW version 6.0.199.4, 1142 AP's & open authentication w/ MAC filtering. Clients are randomly getting dropped with "Limited Access" shown in Win 7. In this state, the client machine is unable to ping the gateway and sometimes lose their DHCP assigned IP as well. A manual disconnect/re-connect to the SSID is required everytime.
I ran a debug on one the clients stuck in the "Limited Access" state (debug client xx:xx:xx:xx):

Deployment of WLC-5508 with 2702i-D have performance issue.
Hi Team,
We have centrally deployed WLC-5508 with 50 AP licence along with HA scenario. we have 3 locations.
1- HQ. have 26 AP with POWINJ5.
2- Branch location A- 8 AP with POWINJ5.
3. Branch location B have 8 AP with POWINJ4.
my exception is to achieve that single SSID with dynamic VLAN from group police (NPS). MY HO have 26 AP and those are working in local mode.
and branches are connected through flexconnect mode. and all are working with different-2 NPS.
Now i am facing a problem with this deployment are following.
1- branch A have performance issue.
2- HQ have performance issue.
3- i don't want to go with dedicated NPS for every location.
In order to achieve this deployment i want only single SSID with primary and secondary NPS at my HQ with dynamic VLAN for respective departmental users vlans..
above is my problem and concern. otherwise i am successfully achieving this solution with dedicated NPS with single group policy. but when i am going forward to achieve my expectation that time i am facing authentication issue at my HQ and sometimes am not able to get proper VLAN IPs. at my HQ.
kindly help me in that to understand where I am doing wrong things to achieve my expectation.
Thanks.
NalinI am facing 2 different problems.
1st issue- in existing setup we have throughput issue. (while downloading or uploading any data from the internet or Intranet, that time wireless clients are facing slowness of the Speed. and same time when i am trying from LAN i am not facing any issue)
2nd Issue- I want to achieve only single SSID with primary and secondary NPS (AD group is bind with vlan Attributes) with dynamic VLAN for respective departmental users.
for Issue no 2 i have created SSID to achieve the single ssid parameter for every location. in order to achieve i have change all access points mode local to Flexconnect mode after that i have created AP groups location wise and then create flexconnect Groups where i have mapped all the vlan through AAA VLAN-ACL mapping. created interface group and mapped all the vlans in that group.
for more understanding please go through the below mentioned CLI view.

IPhones not taking ipv4 addresses on Unified Wireless (WLC 5508 and AP 3602)
This is a really odd one...
Earlier this week we started having issues with our BYOD wireless network (802.1x, WPA2+AES) but only with Apple devices (iphone and ipad). Employees with Android or Windows phones are not having any problems at all.
A brief summary of what's observable for the issue:
Radius authentication succeeds (PASS observable in ACS logs)
IPhone status viewed on both controllers (foreign anchor in DMZ as well as corporate WLC) shows phone associated.
Debug client output shows an IPv4 address is actually being assigned to the phone however it appears to ignore it and restart the DHCP request process so debug output shows what looks to be a loop of DHCP request and offer stages.
Infrastructure notes
Cisco WLC 5508s are all running 7.4.121.0 (tried rolling back to 7.2.110.0 .....didn't help)
APs are all 3602I-N-K9
DHCP for the BYOD network is running on the anchor in the DMZ however this was temporarily moved to a switch (had no effect).
Any ideas?

WLC 5508 Internal DHCP server issues
Hi,
I am hoping to get your feedback around the dhcp issues I am facing with Two Centrally Switched Wireless LANs. I have tried to explain the setup and the problems below and would appreciate it if anyone can suggest a solution for the problems I am facing:
The setup is as follows:
- I have a WLC 5508 which has been configured with 4 SSIDs, out of which 2 are using Central Authentication and Switching.
- I have an LWAP connected to the WLC in HREAP mode.
- WLC is configured as the DHCP server for clients connecting to the SSID 'Guest'. For the rest, I am using external dhcp server.
- Only one scope for Guest Interface is setup on the WLC.
Problems:
1. As far as I know, for WLC to act as internal dhcp server, it is mandatory to have the proxy enabled, but the Clients connecting to SSID 'Internet' are
unable to get an ip address from the external dhcp server, if dhcp proxy is enabled on the WLC. If i disable the proxy, it all works fine.
2. DHCP does not release the ip addresses assigned to clients even after they are logged out.
3. If a machine which was earlier connected to 'Guest' SSID connects to the 'Internet' SSID, it requests the same ip it was assigned by the WLC which it was assigned under 'Guest', but gets tagged with the Vlan configured on the management interface.

I have a similar issue where Wireless clients are not receiving automatic addressing from an internal DHCP server. I have multiple interfaces configured on the WLC which are connected to separate VLANS. The manually specified DHCP primary server entry is the same on all interfaces. Some clients are able to authenticate and receive automatic IP configuration but some clients are failing the address assignment process. I have checked connectivity between the WLC and DHCP server, this is confirmed as working. When I carry out a "debug dhcp packet enable", I get the following outputs which seems as if the DHCP discover request from the client is skipped. Your thoughts and inputs on this are appreciated.

WLC 5508 -7.4.100 mDNS Bonjour snooping
Hello
Have 7.4 installed and configured for Bonjour Snooping. All is working, but working too well. We have a large campus that house 2 schools and each school is complaining that they can see the other schools AppleTV devices.
I have played around with a few different scenarios to see if I can localize the bonjour traffic.
I guess I am looking to create a logical split for bonjour devices amoung the schools.
Apple came to the school and informed us that the IPAD has a limit of 64 devices that can be seen via the bonjour. At some point we will have over 100 AppleTV added.
so we have 3 wlc 5508's with 7.4.100
we have 2 SSIDs that span the whole campus
using AP groups to segment the floors in buildings
So the schools are logically split with AP groups
Here is what I have tried
I created few mDNS profiles and assigned the services for Apple TV - let's call them school1 and school2
I assign the mDNS profiles to the interfaces dedicated each school
enable snooping on the WLAN with profile of none
The end result is that devices from both schools can be seen.
I tried to create new ssid for apple TVs and a new ssid for 1 schools teachers
I followed the vlan select example
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps4570/products_tech_note09186a0080bb1d7c.shtml
end result is that devices from both schools can be seen
I have tried the mDNS without multicast enabled just like the video shows to no avail - I assume maybe my AP groups might be more complicated then the example of just 2 vlans
https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/wireless-mobility/begin-wireless/blog/2013/01/01/wireless-lan-controller-wlc-release-74--bonjour-gateway-configuration-example
I have tried combinations of things, but I must be missing something
In the webinar, Cisco said it will use filtering to restrict which clients can see which services (Apple TV's, etc). What will Cisco use to filter Bonjour requests?
according to this article
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/network-wifi/3376119/cisco-answers-user-questions-about-upcoming-apple-bonjour-gateway/#ixzz2SIDqFH49
The filtering options are: · Per WLAN/SSID · Per VLAN or AP Group · Per Interface Group (which is a group of VLANs pooled together).
A Bonjour service policy can be created and applied on any one of the above criteria. In the future, we will support per-user Bonjour service policies which will come as a RADIUS attribute from the AAA server.

WLC 5508 to WLC 5508 for Mobility Group
Hi
I have 5508 WLC (Running 7.2) in seperate buildings. I have created ACL's on both Controllers and the only thing that is failing is the Mobility Control Function. The ACL on WLC B is the Exactly the same except with some IP's being reversed. I have allowed EoIP and Mobility Traffic on both Controllers. The Data Path is Fine but the Control Path is stating down. I apologize in advance if I have been to vague. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank You
BillWell for mping, that is upd 16666/16667. So in your rule, your rule you shoulod have something like this:
17 16666-16666 16666-16666 Any Permit
17 16667-16667 16667-16667 Any Permit
What is the ip of the WLC's? YOur counters are all zero also.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6366/products_tech_note09186a0080a7c988.shtml#t4
Take a look at your show rules output without the ACL and then witht he ACL. -
Hello,
I have an issue with two wlc 5508 in the same mobility group. We use TACACS to authenticate admins, with maximum privileges.
When I want to configure cleanair, or some security functions (such as ACL, or password policies), I have an error message saying that my privileges are not enough.
When I use local account, it works well.
At the begining, I thought it was a TACACS issue, but I have the same problem with WCS and SNMP. Cleanair doesn't appears in config menu, and I have an error message for security function.
Do you have any idea ?
Thanks for your help.

Wlc 5508 : guest users to be configured only give access for internal SAP application
Hi,
I have one new requirement with one of the client.
I have wlc 5508 with 6.0 firmware. I need to have one guest wlan which will have access only for internal SAP application.
I have gone through cisco document for internet guest users , where web page will be redirected with user name and password once it is authenticated , we can access internet.
Provided if we have access list configured in wlc ... for internet access only /
what about this mentioned scenario ?
can anybody suggest on the same ?Hi Vinod,
Go for the ACL on any Router or the switch.. i prefer not on the WLC..
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/secursw/ps1018/products_tech_note09186a00800a5b9a.shtml
Here is the link as well to do it on the WLC

Redundancy for WLC 5508 7.1.103
I was trying to setup 2x WLC 5508 follow this instruction , copy config of 1 WLC to another and change the IP address. Then setup HA in global config for all AP
https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2036661
Is there a way to confirm fail-over work without turning off the 1st WLC ?
I tried this command on 1 of the AP "show capwap client config"
But it does not show secondary controller config. Are you sure you don't see primary and secondary controller's IP addresses on the command "show capwap client config"?
If configured, primary, secondary or tertiary WLCs appear on the output of this command like this:
mwarName WLC1
mwarIPAddress x.x.x.x
mwarName WLC2
mwarIPAddress y.y.y.y
mwarName WLC3
mwarIPAddress z.z.z.z
Where, WLC1 is the primary, WLC2 is the secondary and WLC3 is the tertiary.
Note that the listing order determines which one is primary and which is secondary...etc. (first listed is primary, second is secondary..etc).
You double check the output of your command.
You can take Leo's advice about testing HA without reloading the WLC, but you can also check HA per AP basis. Try adding one ACL that prevents specific AP from communicating with the primary WLC and wait to see if it will join the secondary or not.
