Acobat/Reader conflict in Windows 7

I use an online system that creates its reports as PDF and requires Reader to be installed to work properly.  Previously with XP, Reader 9 ran alongside Acrobat Professional 8 with no problems at all - the PDF would view perfectly fine in an embedded window.
Now with Windows 7 (64bit) when I do the same thing, as the PDF is about to view I get I get the following alert:
"Cannot use Adobe Reader to view PDF in your web browser. Reader will now exit. Please exit your browser and try again."
The PDF still opens OK in an embedded window BUT...
The Acrobat Pro application has launched and even when it's quit Reader will not run - every time I try to launch Reader, Pro runs instead.  When I check Task Manager the Acrobat.exe process (belonging to Acrobat 8) is always running even when Acrobat itself is quit.  Only when I stop the service does Reader run.
If I launch Acrobat Pro in the normal way and quit, the service stops as expected.
Not the worst problem in the world but I'd like to get round it if I can.  Any advice welcome
Thanks

Look at the task list on your computer. AA is probably still running in the background, causing the problem. This is why it is normally not recommended to run AA and AR on the same machine. I believe there are settings in each program (at least the newer ones) to not leave anything running in the background -- you will have to search the preferences.

  • Adobe Reader 11 w/Windows 7 not responding

Why does Adobe Reader 11 fail to respond sometimes?  Re-installing allows it to function several times then we get a "not responding" message.  A plank screen is displayed and the number of pages but NO text!  Using repair produces the same results.  Upon 1st use of the repaired/reinstalled reader 11 we also get the adobe message "Cannot find or create the font "Times New Roman".  Some characters may ot display or print correctly".  The text is mostly displayed at this point.  The second attempt to display the same PDF or another displays completely w/out any error message at all.  At some point during the testing process Adobe Reader 11 stops working!  Restarts don't help.  Shutdowns don't help.  Seems only a re-install or repair allows us to correctly view our PDF document a number of times before we have to repeat the process.  Is help available?

  • Acrobat Reader X - Red window!

Hello!  I've recently installed Acrobat Reader X and noticed that whenever I open the program, an ADOBE READER X red window is displayed on the screen. This window displays "Open a Recent File" and "Acrobat.com Services" but I would rather not have it as I prefer to use the Menu options. Please let me know how I may stop it from popping up, thanks.  I would also like to point out that the icon "Save file" does respond to the click of the mousse. In order to save a file I have to go to the File menu and choose the "Save As" option, whereas in previous Acrobat Reader versions I was able to do so!  Your guidance would be appreciated.  Regards,  João Carlos

I have some PCs when opening a PDF in IE, Adobe reader x opens with this red screen, other PCs you do not see reader open? what setting do we have set to not open reader in foreground?

  • Adobe Reader form in Windows 8 Tablet

I created a fill-n-able form in Acrobat Pro X, made it Reader Enabled and uploaded it to a Windows 8 tablet. The Sign, Place Signature feature only offers the end user  the ability to use a digital, certified signature. The Draw Signature option is greyed out. Any thoughts on how to enable "Draw My Signature" in the Reader on a Windows 8 tablet?

I understand. There has always been differences between the behavior of the desktop and mobile versions or Adobe Reader and necessarily always will be. The ability to add a hand-drawn signature with the desktop versions was added as an EchoSign feature. When the "Done Signing" button is clicked, any text, signature, and other annotations that were added get flattened, which removes the form fields, leaving just their appearances behind. With an enabled form, the pencil tool can be used to add a hand-drawn signature, but it won't get flattened when saved. A stamp could also be used, but they'd have to install a custom stamp. Signatures placed using the EchoSign "Place Signature" method are added as stamps.

I need to download adobe reader 9 for windows 7. Can anyone provide me with a link?  Anyone have a link for Adobe reader 9?

I know it was crazy hard to find the links!
My company paid for it and I hadn't been on in a while...
It took some serious bookmark/history crawling to find!
    Here they are though!

  • How do you search bold text in Adobe Reader XI for Windows?

We create documents electronically that contain bold text for a client. No matter what we try in Adobe Reader XI for Windows, bold text is not found. Is it not searchable? Is there a setting that we are overlooking to enable it? So far, only NitroPDF is the only program I can find that works.

I just created a small test PDF (test_bold.pdf) with some bold words in it.  Reader XI (11.0.09) has no trouble finding these words.
You can download the test doc from https://files.acrobat.com/a/preview/333accd7-f54b-40f4-b06f-f14a3608f120
Search for the word lazy that has been boldened multiple times in the doc.

  • Can't Print or Save in Adobe Acobat Reader DC

I was using an older version of Acrobat reader and deleted it because it wasn't updating since 2012. I loaded the Adobe Acobat Reader and it will not print or save. Using Mac OS 10.10.2.

    Hi Ben,
This could happen due to an Adobe Acrobat Reader DC installation file corruption. I will recommend you to uninstall Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, restart your system & reinstall Adobe Acrobat Reader DC using this link Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions.
You can also refer to this KB doc. for help Troubleshoot PDF printing | Acrobat, Reader

  • I have Adobe Reader X on Windows Vista. Why doesn't the Printer for Adobe PDF show up in my Hardware/printers? Or can I add it to the Hardware/Printers?

I have Adobe Reader X in Windows Vista. Why doesn't the Adobe PDF show up as a printer in my Hardware/Printers? Or can I add it to the Hardware/Printers? And how?

Adobe Reader - FREE - reads PDF files, prints them, fills forms.
Adobe Acrobat - $$ - as Reader, and makes PDFs and edits them, sorta, and does a bunch more.
So if you had Acrobat try and find the license to avoid having to pay again...

  • I received an email containing pdf files. I am using Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8. File doesn't open

I received an email containing pdf files. I am using Adobe Reader Touch for Windows 8. File doesn't open. I am a new user to Windows 8.

The full featured Reader for Windows 8 is Reader XI.
Reader Touch works in all Windows 8 systems BUT it is intended mainly for use in mobile tablets - I see no particular reason to use it unless you can'r run Reader XI. Given it is mainly for use on mobile that can't use Flash, we aren't likely to ever see the development team spending their time on this.
If you want the latest and greatest - at least try Reader XI, not X! (Flash is a separate download, it will prompt).

  • ITunes conflicts with Windows components

Hi everyone -- can anyone come up with an answer?
when i press the itunes icon, nothing happens -- it simply doesn't show up, no error message appears.
one thing seemed to help - using MSCONFIC to troubleshoot conflict in windows. however, as soon as i opened my internet browser, the itunes quit and won't open again.
    Help!
I'd appreciate any help with solving this problem.
    Thanks, Hestia.

    hi Hestia!
however, as soon as i opened my internet browser, the itunes quit and won't open again.
i've seen that symptom hit people before with a Qoologic adware infestation on the PC. (some variants of that snuggle into IE as a browser helper object, and opening IE reactivates the adware and reactivates the error-message-free itunes launch suppression.)
the free trial version of Ewido has been catching and killing the Qoologic for most folks:
