ACPI Flash BIOS version 2.60 Update Problem cause Blank Screen on Qosmio X505-Q870 HELP Needed!

I have a Qosmio X505-Q870 that I bought 3 months ago. I updated to ACPI Flash BIOS version 2.60 today, as suggested by the Toshiba installation tools. I ran the update in Windows 7( didn't know this is dangerous) and it successfully completed, before it shuts down normally. When I try ti turn it on, the power LED is on, but the screen is blank. I tried to turn it off by pressing the power button for 20 seconds, but the computer would not turn off. What should I do now?

  • Satellite E105-S1402 Running Hotter After ACPI Flash BIOS version 1.40

    Hello,
First time poster. I bought a E105-S1402 yesterday from Best Buy. The computer was running at a comfortable tempture up until I updated the bios per the download and drivers page, http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=214052....  Now, the laptop runs much hotter. Does anyone else have the same issue? Is this something the bios update was supposed to do? Any advice/suggestions. Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You might try to update your bios to v 1.5. It is the very latest bios update (late April 2009) for the E105-S1402.
My E105 does run a little hotter than my previous HP laptop, however, I have gotten used to it. I'm guessing the fact that the body is made of aluminum, rather than plastic, is the reason why it feels hotter. However, what we get with warmth as a negative, we gain in build quality and ruggedness as a positive.
As long as your laptop has not shutdown on its own, which would be an indication that the computer tried to save itself from damage due to excessive heat, then you are probably fine, albeit uncomfortable.

Computer HP Envy 17 Notebook PC -  screen blank after bios Version F.53 update
computer cannot enter BIOS but switches on and screen remains blank.
The power and wifi indicator shows.
Tried removing CMOS battery with no change
Tried removing battery, pressing on button for 40 minutes then starting again still no change

Hi farai, welcome to the HP Forums. If your computer appears to be powering on, but you cannot see the screen it may be a recoverable situation.
This document will help you diagnose the issue, it looks like you have already done Step 1 (hard reset):
Computer Starts but Screen Remains Blank (Windows 8)
If you get to Step 3, the options listed won't work since you indicated you cannot get into your BIOS. In place of Step 3 in that document, you can try to restore your BIOS using this method: Restoring the BIOS
If you get to the end, it says to call HP. If so, it is most likely a hardware issue and you should call support for more options: HP Technical Support, North America 1-800-474-6836. For all other regions click here.
I hope this helps. If you need any more information, let me know.

  • Qosmio G30-126 - start up problem with blank screen

My laptop was running perfectly untill i suddenly found it booting with the start up sound enable but without any picture appearing on the display untill i got the windows login page at which the picture appeared with its normal perfect resolution.
The operating system is Windows 7 which was working smoothly, with all toshiba drivers installed from more than 3 monthes and the device was normally shut down the time before the problem appeared.
I tried using the recovery disc but the problem is that i cant see any thing! the computer is working but the display is black as if the laptop is completly turned off.
I tried to connect another external LG LCD but it didnt give any results but only a blank screen.
I really need help in this issue as this laptop contains all my work and i depend on it alot.

    Hi Jeka-??
First, thanks for the reply. Second i think i can fully access the BIOS using F1 but the problem that the screen is totally black. You will ask how do you know that you entered BIOS? the answer is that it do the restart when i press the right combination of keys to save and exit i.e. After pressing F1, i press the end key which supposed to give me a message of save and exit and i press Y so the laptop restarts.
Third, are you sure that this is a defected GPU card? as if there are any possibilities to try before sending the computer to Toshiba service center, i'll be glad to them on my own.
By the way the graphic card works perfectly when the computer log on the windows even with games i.e. the monitor starts to display picture starting from the choosing profile page of windows. The original recovery disk is VISTA Ultimate and i'd like to restore it back instead of the installed windows 7 as a trial but unfortunately i cant see the process as i have to enter some data to continue installation and i cant remeber them to do it blind.
Do you know a method to reinstall the bios update again? as when i try to install it through windows 7 it keeps saying " [Error] BIOS Update is not supported OS. Unsupported OS or service pack is installed "

  • Qosmio X505 - Q870 Freezing Problem PLS HELP !!!

    hello everyone
    i have toshiba qosmio x505 q870 with nvidia gts 360m. core i7 q720 @1.6
i have this strange problem .. the laptop freezes recently alot that im not being to use it, it happens not in particular situation .. it may happen in any time in anything you are doing. last time happened, i was logging in.
i wish to know whats the problem .. after freezing the only thing that i can do is ahard shut down by keep pressing the power button.
i tried mem test to check the rams .. no errors i have 8gb ram.
i tried scanning the hard disk for bad sectors .. also nth, i have 128 gb ssd
( the laptop came with 500gb hitachi 7200rpm, i added SSD 128gb Kingston later )
and another 500gb seagate 7200 rpm.
i tried replacing rams .. still happening.
i used the laptop without battery only on power still happening.
i used the battery alone also happened.
i changed the windows copy yes it freezed.
some times when it happens i take off the battery and take of the rams and keep pressing the power button to reset the laptop thing about electricity, thats what they told me .
Then it will happen but after awhile. one time i did this thing:
i disassembled the laptop with eveything out and did a cleaning for eveyrhing ( bearing in mind it wasnt full of dust or anything it was clean ) and then reinstalled everything in place.
    That was a while ago..
After that it took awhile before rehappening, something about a month . and one time happened during the installtion of windows =S
i tried eveything .. i updated all the drivers, uninstall reinstall, i did a recovery i did eveything with no results no over heating problems
i asked the support center and they didnt figure out whats causing. they did not figure out the problem soo... to show me that they are a good costumer care center they told me that they want to replace :
    1. motherboard 280 $
    2. graphic card 600 $
    3. 2 x 4 gb ram 100 $
    4. HDD 70 $
the laptop is out of warranty and im sure i wont do such a thing ..
all of that to be replaced just because they did not figure out.
and im the one whos gonna cry !
im sure that this solution is not the right one.
i tried four different HDD same result and as i mentioned .. one of them was during the installation of windows during the recovery ...
i almost tried eveything i tried to run with one memory module, then the other module, and see if either provides more stability. For clarity, let's call one RAM 1 and the other RAM 2. and i have two slots; call them slot 1 and slot 2. Try RAM 1 in slot 1 with slot 2 empty. If that does not allow the system to work well, try RAM 1 in slot 2 with slot 1 empty. If that does not provide more stability, try RAM 2 in slot 1 with slot 2 empty. If that still is not stable, try RAM 2 in slot 2 with slot 1 empty. still freezing =(
    Plus .. i tried 8 different rams modules 1 in 1 , 1 in 2, 2 in 1, 2 in 2 and goes on .. etc .. still freezing .. i tried eveything humanty can do ..
i guess im gonna buy a robot and let him set, think, work, and figure out whats causing ..
after all im guessing its sth about electricity .. i think thats theres atiny black thing in the motherboard causing loose or giving more static or delivering more or less electricity to some parts or anything like this .
who knows ... my humanty after i did all that made think like this .. or lets say its BY LOGIC .. Please Anyone can Help ... !!
anyone can help =( im disperate

A FIX THAT WORKS SO FAR!
I have a x505 - q870 myself and have had problems with freezing for a long time - till a few days ago, it began to freeze at random times even 15 minutes after boot, making the laptop unusable. I use a cooling pad, and that didn't help either. I thought it maybe a corrupt OS, bad memory or a heating problem.
I found this toshiba form post and on advice decided to unseat and reseat the CMOS battery. WARNING: this takes time and patience, you have to disassemble the entire laptop to get to the motherboard. I'll attach an X505 service manual that I found a while ago.
While getting to the CMOS battery, I also discovered that the fans had a carpet layer of dust/lint covering the rear vents (after 2 years heavy travel and use). I cleaned these out (with air), unseated and reseated the battery, and reassembled the laptop. You will have to update system time on first boot. VOILA! I have had the laptop working for two days now, no freezing yet! I am guessing a couple of reasons:
    1. Hard resetting the motherboard did something magical - worth a try.
    2. Cleaning dirt blocking vents under the motherboard definitely helped heating issues. You may not have this problem. But in any case, do you use a cooling pad?
If you are out of warranty (like me) and have some technical knowledge, I suggest you give this a try. Since I did this I have not had a freeze yet after constant use! This after having repeated freezes every hour of use is definitely an improvement.

Power on/off your laptop. If the laptop does the same then you have to send it back for RMA.

  • Failed 10.4.7 update has caused blue screen at log on

I tried to download the 10.4.7 update (133MB version) to my 15" MBP and for some reason the download failed. Now I cannot start my MBP- after the Apple screen it just goes to a blank blue screen and stays there. I have looked for advice on the discussions board and tried the following things-
-starting it in safe mode and deleting the log in items (in both user accounts), that didn't seem to make any difference
-restoring the firmware as per the advice at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303469, nothing happened when I followed the instructions, just started up again with that blue screen. Problem with this step is that it only works if you haven't since updated the firmware and I suspect we have since we do most of the updates that come up with Software Update.
Any other ideas before I take the computer back to the shop?
MBP, Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   still learning how to use my Mac...

To solve this, I downloaded the upload using the other computer and put it onto a cd-rom. Then I started the computer in safe mode, then pu the cd in and continued the update. Seemed to work a treat.
Might help someone else if they get any issues similar to this in future...

  • Slideshow - Problems, showing blank screens, etc.

I'm experiencing lots of problems with Slideshows. Sometimes it's showing me blank screens with just the Color Wash, other times it's showing each alternate photo in my current selection, i.e. 1,3,5 and 7 of an 8 photo selection. It does work correctly on some occasions though.
I've got a simple single screen setup and I'm running version 1.0 of LR on Windows XP SP2.
Can't see any posts along these lines - is anyone else experiencing this?

There were quite old posts about this kind of thing. Nothing recent. Checkout this search:

  • Problem with matrix/screen in Qosmio F55-Q502

    Hello
For a few weeks I have strange problem with matrix/screen in my laptop.
The matrix flickers very often - no matter if power cable is plugged or not.
The screen is full bright and suddenly it starts to blink - it is getting darker, than lighter, usually for few/dozen seconds. It does it when nobody touches it or when I work on it.
It very annoying and making eyes tired - it does it very quickly and there are few levels of screen brightness.
Moreover sometimes the screen turns off - You can see what is on desktop but the screen is very very dark (but not blank or completely switched off). It happens without any reason - sometimes just in the middle of working, sometime for example when I touch (not pull) the power cable between laptop and power supply.
Then, the only way to get back to normal brightness of screen id to close the lid just for half a second and open it
    - matrix lights then normally, but can "turns off" moment later and I must do it once again - sometimes even few times..
After "action" with lid screens seems like nothing ever happen..
Does anyone have idea what is the cause of such behaviour or how to diagnose it in details?
    Or maybe solve this problem?
    Best regards
    300m

Sounds like the Backlight or Inverter is failing or there is a loose connection.
Is the unit under warranty? Send it to an ASP for repair.
You should avoid repairing it yourself, the backlight is very high voltage!
