ACPU disables printer driver colour management; how?

Having developed a printing app for Mac Large Format Printers which uses its own CMM, I am finding it increasingly difficult to print natively, so without color management applied to it outside my App.
Before, drivers had an option to set the simulation to None, which would make the printer use the entire gamut available.
Now (I believe from OS 10.9.6 and up), this option has been taken out of the HP Designjet PCL drivers, and no longer works properly for RGB in HP designjet PS drivers.
Adobe Color Printer Utility (ACPU) allows for targets to be printed correctly. It works great. But as my App has its own CMM, it needs to be able to print natively using the drivers.
My question is; is there an API or documentation on how to make your mac App tell the driver not to do colour management, just like ACPU does?
Or can you make Cups to this by setting a Cups option?
Currently, only Adobe Apps like PhotoShop can do this.
I understand that Adobe will suggest that using Adobe software is a good idea (which it is) but the App I made goes way beyond normal printing functionality offered in these applications and offers hot folders, automatic custom page size definition droplet actions, canvas border creation, nesting, printer load sharing etc. etc.
Any help/information would be very very very much appreciated.

The behavior in screen capture two with the two radio buttons grayed out is correct. You cannot turn off color management anyway. The magenta cast is another problem.

  • Draft Mode Printing with Colour Management

    Hi
A simple change to the print module that would improve matters for me.
Draft Mode Printing disables all print enhancements, I can understand the reasoning behind this BUT for me the main advantage is the speed of generation using only the existing previews, I would still like to be able to print using the correct colours. Proofs don't have to be high quality or particularly sharp but if you present a client with proofs that have a colour cast or other colour fault they are going to think your final images are also suspect.
Please consider re-enabling Colour Management in Draft Mode.
    Thanks
    Mike

u are probably not getting much help on this unless you post screenshot of your process (starting with File> Print window)
remember, Photoshop can print a document correct regardless of how it looks on the monitor (and vice versa: Photoshop can display a document correct regardless of how it prints)
i recommend getting a known target like the WhackedRGB.jpg and see where the problem is occuring (in Photoshop color management settings, on the monitor, on the printer or both)...

Could this be the fix for printing non-colour managed files we are all hoping for ?

    Hi Doyle.
You have but a short memory !
Can I suggest you go back and read all the posts on this and the Luminous Landscape sites.  This will disabuse you of the notion that the issue only effects "some Epson drivers".  At the present time I can categorically include Canon in this, there is some evidence (on web postings) to suggest that HP printers are effected, it clearly effects colour profiling software from Colorvison and X-Rite – and, I would suggest, (from what I have read) that most if not all Epson drivers are thus effected.
We all know that you say that your Canon printers can do no wrong but sadly this is not the same story for the rest of us unlucky users.
It is unclear whose problem it is (as no one has yet owned up) but the evidence would seem to suggest that it is common to all printers and profiling software that are using untagged files (files with no profiles) and need no colour management in the printing path.  Adobe have stated that Apple changed the printing APIs and that the new printing path "will not permit" files without a profile attached.  From here on in it appears that ColorSync (part of the Mac OS) starts introducing errors by attempting to colour manage the un-tagged file in some undiscovered way.  Thereafter the whole thing becomes a mystery – and no one really knows what the printer makes of it all !  My observation is that the results always seem to be the same, a file which is printed too dark - once again suggesting a common denominator.
Will 10.6.3 fix this ?  We will have to wait and see.

  • When I try disabling colour management in the printer driver, it keeps turning back on

I'm using Lightroom v2.4 and a Canon Pixma Pro 9500 printer with the latest driver.  I've just tried to print from Lightroom for the first time since moving to this latest version of Lightroom and when I go into print setup and turn off colour management, the driver doesn't keep the setting.  Nor does it allow me to do borderless printing.  My choice of print quality is also lost - this never used to be a problem.
This is very frustrating and means I must use Photoshop to print which takes longer when there is much to do.  Please can someone offer some advice. I can print from Photoshop without this happening.
    Thanks
    Joanne

Have you tried creating Print templates in LR? Available from the left panel
in Print module. That's what I do to make sure the printer driver settings
    stay the same.
Are you quite sure you have the latest 9500 driver?
    Eric
I'm using Windows XP SP3, and I have just one button at the bottom left of the
Lightroom print diaglogue window called 'Page settings', when you click this,
you can select the printer and go into properties, which is where I normally
disable colour management.  It is also refusing to print at standard quality,
but it defaulting to high quality (which takes a lot longer).
Thing is that I can print from Photoshop without problems and it's from
Photoshop where I do much of my printing, but printing from Lightroom is good
if I have a big load of prints to do as it's so much quicker to set up and it
    has the picture package facility.

  • How to disable the printer's color management in Photoshop CS5 with Mavericks?

Just select Photoshop Manages Color, and the printer driver color options should be disabled.

  • Disable printer colour management

    Hi
I have just bought the above printer to replace a very simple Canon pixma.  I use Windows Live editing and Photoshop Elements too.   To get the results required its suggested by Photoshop that the printer colour management is disabled to use Photoshops. This didnt seem to be possible with  Pixma.     But expected a better printer to have this function
However Iaam getting the same warning box.  Printing to non interpolative (spelling?) printer. The images iaren't printing asthey were when they left photoshop.
Can I do this with this machine or have I made a mistak in buying this machine. Its options seem limited for a  machine worth around 60.00

    Hello @Jenny105,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the Photoshop Elements error that you're receiving when printing from your Windows 7 computer to your HP Envy 4500 All-in-One. I did some research into this error and found that the message "Printing to non interpolated printer" is a postscript error. This indicates that rather than just a colour issue, you have a settings issue under Photoshop.  Apparently this message is just informing you that you have Postscript settings and you are using a non Postscript printer. Postscript is a printer language. Consumer printers, like your HP Envy, are only PCL 3 for their printing language capabilities. If you need to use Postscript settings (such as halftone patterns, transfer curves, interpolation . . .) than you will need a Postscript capable printer, like a Laserjet, or commerical Inkjet. Also, because you're finding that the colours aren't printing correctly, you may need to adjust the colour profile information under Photoshop.
For instructions on how to adjust the colour profile settings, please click here. You can choose to either 'let Photoshop determine printed colours' or 'Let printer determine printed colours'.
Once you have adjusted the colour profile settings, please test printing again.
Please let me know if the colour profile adjustment resolves your issues. Best of luck!

  • Disabling printer colour management

    Hi,
my prints are coming out very dark on my Epson 4400 from photshop CS6 on my Mac OS X10.8.5
In the print window it says to disable the printer colour management from the print settings dialogue box but I can't find this anywhere. I have seleceted Photoshop to manage the colours.
    Any advice much needed!

It should be in your main Print window...Print > Color Handling.  I have mine set for "Let Printer Manage Colors" because the Epson driver has a lot of options I want to take advantage of and is engineered to interpret application color settings accurately.

  • How to disable Print button in Report Manager in SSRS 2008

I have a report with long list of columns. Currently we are supporting only excel export and we do not want user to print reports. I know we can disable export options by editing Render extensions in rsreportserver.config. Kindly suggest me how I can stop
    user from printing reports.
    Thanks.

    Please refer the link below:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms155874.aspx
"Report server administrators have the option of disabling the print feature by setting the report server system property
EnableClientPrinting to false. This will disable client-side printing for all reports managed by that server. By default,
EnableClientPrinting is set to true. You can disable client-side printing in the following ways:
Select Enable download for the ActiveX client print control on the Server Properties page in Management Studio. To open Server Properties pages, connect to a report server instance in Management Studio, right-click on the report server node,
    and select Properties.
Write script or code that sets the report server system property EnableClientPrinting to
    false."
    Thanks, Michael Mei
Is there a way to enable or disable printing and export facility in the client based on report server roles. In our case some group of users only needs read access and so we want to prohibit export and print facility.

  • How can I disable printer access on a managed account (guest/kids)?

Is there a way to disable printer use on a managed user account? I have created a limited user account for my kids to use. The problem is, sometimes they visit these websites that allow them to print their "works of art" and by doing so they use up a lot of my printer toner and paper. I don't want to have to turn off the printer and create a giant printer queue as the printer is a network printer shared among other computers. I rather just disable their printing capabilities. Deleting the printer from their user account also deleted it from my main (admin) account. I'm posting this in hopes someone out there knows how to do what I'm asking for. Thank you.

Scotch_Brawth has the basic steps outlined.  A few additions I would make is that CUPS is already running on your system in the background.  It is the underlying printing system for OS X.  The easiest way to control the users of printers is through the web interface to CUPS.  This is what is disabled by default in Mountain Lion.  You can enable it by using the Terminal (/Applications/Terminal).  Copy and paste the following command into a Terminal wndow and then hit Enter or Return:
    cupsctl WebInterface=yes
Now you can use any web browser and go to http://127.0.0.1:631/printers/.  Click on the link to the printer you want to control.  There will be two drop down menus near the top of the page -- Maintenance and Administaration.  Use the Administration menu to select Set Allowed Users.  The page that will appear lets you enter a list of users to either allow to use the printer or prevent from using the printer.  Make the appropriate choices and click the Set Allowed Users button.  You will be prompted to enter your administrator's user name and password.
You only need to enable the web interface once.  It will then be available unless you use the Terminal to disable it or until an Apple update turns it off again.

  • How to disable CD-DRIVE checking, while using a Dolphin file manager

    Hello.
I  would like ask for a help. I have one problem that's quite annoying. It is related to checking cd-drive when using a dolphin file menager. It always cheecks it when Dolphin is launched from K or launcher on taskbar for the first time, again it happens when i close it and open again.
Is there a way to disable checking of cd-drive in Dolphin? This behaviour occurs on KDE with all linux system that i checked: Slackware, Arch, Kubuntu. Look at this:
Disabling CD-DRIVE checking, while using a file manager
I would like to disable it in order to speed up opening Dolphin, launching it.

Udisks2 is what dolphin uses to handle external drives of all kinds (USB, optical, etc).  Udisks is an automounting tool that allows normal users to mount disks.  The permission handling before was handled with consolekit and has now been replaced by systemd-logind (which is much better anyway).  So what I am suggesting is that it might be that dolphin is using udisks2 as the tool that polls for the existence of a disc in your optical drive.
Unfortunately, it is a bit more confusing than that because udisks2 is the replacement for the original udisks.  It is totally different and not compatible.  So I remember seeing a way to turn off optical drive polling, but I cannot remember if it was udisks or udisks2.  But it was done with a udev rule.
So I think if you tried to google for "udisks optical (or cd or dvd) polling" or something like that, you might be able to figure out how this is done.
Edit: unfortunately, I do not use dolphin or udisks2.  But I do have the original udisks installed.
Edit2: It seems that the method I remembered is for the original udisks.

  • How to turn off printer colour management in LR 5.7?

Using an EPSON R3000 with bespoke profiles and getting a magenta colour cast. It seems there is some double profiling/ conflict at work. I don't seem to have an option to turn off colour management  - like this:
For my system, the colour matching is greyed out and I can't change anything. When it's greyed out, does it mean it's automatically turned off?
Does anyone else have this issue? Everything works wonderfully in CS6, no issues printing with ICC profiles from there. Using MacOSX 10.8.
    Thanks!

The behavior in screen capture two with the two radio buttons grayed out is correct. You cannot turn off color management anyway. The magenta cast is another problem.

  • How do I disable printer color management so I can get clear photos using adobe?

My printer is an Office Jet Pro 8500A Plus. My operating system is Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I get excellent photos if I print from Windows Media. When I print from Photoshop Elements 10 all images are blurred and dark. Photoshop says to disable printer color management in printer preferences but there is no link.

I have researched the matter a lot and I,
along with many others, still have problems with this complicated
    subject.
Color management is as simple in theory as Honoring a Source Profile and CONVERTING it to a Target Profile (monitor or printer) for Proofing.
But yes, we work at the mercy of the rocket scientists who try to dumb an extremely complicated process down so regular folks (like me) can make it work — trouble is I think their approach needs a bit more distilling and common sense sometimes...but it is very doable once you put in the time to figure it out, just follow the CHAIN in your workflow if you're still having problems.
If you want a "simple button" try staying in sRGB and printing out of Apple Preview app using OEM standard papers matched to your printer and OEM ink set.

  • Switch off printer colour management

    Hello,
I am on a Mac Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and using IDCS5 to print to a Canon Pro 9500 printer.
When I get to the print dialog, I can only select colour handling by indesign. There is no option for colour managed by printer which is fine because I would prefer to have indesign manage the colours.
However when I go to printer settings dialog I cannot turn off the printer colour management. There are two radio buttons only in the colour matching section. One is canon colour matching and the other is Coloursync from which I can select from various colour profiles.
I can't figure out how to disable colour mangement from the printer driver.
Can someone help me with this please?
    Jach

I can see what you are saying about objects with different profiles in one indesign document. But the output has to be just one profile - in my case my custom built profile for the type of paper and my inkjet printer.
So if my understanding is right - Indesign takes the number colours from the various objects in the document and convert them to numbers that my printer will use for a particular type of paper. To do this conversion indesign needs a recipe, and that recipe is in the form of my custum built profile.
However, what is happening so far, is that indesign is converting the colours using my profile but then the printer driver is also doing some form of conversion which is messing up the colours.
What I did try is select the right profile in the indesign print dialogue and then went to printer settings and chose colour sync and the same profile from the drop down list. I was hoping that selecting the same profile in both indesign and printer driver would result in preventing double profiling. However the results were bad.
I am not sure how choosing DocumentRGB is going to help. Because my colour setting across the adobe suite is ProPhoto RGB for the RGB settings.
If I go to the drop down menu for printer profile, one of the options I get is "DocumentRGB - ProPhotoRGB". Wouldn't this be wrong if some of the images in my document are sRGB or some other colour space?

  • Managing Color with LR and the Canon Pixma Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver

I would like help understanding how to manage color in LIghtroom with the Canon Pro 9000 10.1.2.0 printer driver. When I ask LR to manage color in the Printing Module Color Management Profile, it warns me to turn off the printer managing color. But I cannot find where to do this in the driver.
The Color Options menu in the driver gives an additional choice for "Color Mode", but there are no choices here except "Standard", "Linear" or "Tone". The only Canon documentation I can find shows a choice to turn off printer management here, but this driver doesn't give me that choice.
If I look in the driver's "Color Matching", I see only two choices: ColorSync or Vendor Matching. ColorSync brings up Canon profiles like "Pro9000 Fine Art Photo Rag", but selecting one of these gives a warning of unexpected results. This pushes me back to Vendor Matching. But is this turning off the printer driver and leaving it to Lightroom?
Right now, I am getting the best results from choosing "Managed by Printer" in LR's Color Management Profile, and setting "Color Matching" in the Canon driver to "Vendor Matching". If I instead choose one of the Canon profiles in LR's Color Management Profile (and it tells me to turn off the printer managing, which I cannot do), then my prints have a slightly bluer color cast.
Is there a way to turn off the printer managing color in this driver and turn this over to LR, or am I getting the best results possible with the printer managing color anyway?
I am using a 2.4 GHz Intel iMac with OS 10.5.4, 2 gigs SDRAM, standard ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro video card. I downloaded the Canon printer driver from their website, so I assume this is the latest. there is another driver available at their website, but for a lower bit depth. Should I abandon the 10.1.2.0 for this other one? I work with Nikon D300 NEFs, and I assumed the higher bit depth printer driver will work better with these images.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Dear DYP: Unfortunately, those choices are not available in the 10.1.2.0 Canon Printer driver. There are only 2 radio buttons, ColorSync and Vendor Matching. ColorSync then provides a drop-down menu, with no choice for turning off the printer driver.
But I think I found the answer. I found a deeply buried FAQ on the Canon site (no direct URL; sorry!) Here it says:
"Issue: How do I disable the printer driver color correction when using the CUPS driver in Mac OS X 10.5.x?
Solution: Change color management options for printing (Mac OS X 10.5.x)
Change color management options for printing
Open the document you wish to print.
Click 'File' and then click 'Print.'
Note: If the Print window contains only two pop-up menus, click the triangle beside the Printer pop-up menu for expanded options.
Select 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu.
Select 'ColorSync' if you want the application you are using, and not the printer driver, to control the color management of the printed output.
Note: If you are using Adobe Photoshop CS2 or CS3 and have selected 'Let Photoshop Determine Colors', the 'Color Matching' from the Print Options pop-up menu is automatically set to 'ColorSync.'
Select 'Vendor Matching' if you want the printer driver to control the color management of the printed output."
I tried it, and chose "Automatic" as a choice in ColorSync. The choices under "Color Options" are then greyed out, implying that the Canon driver is now turned off.
The prints came out great, with no color cast, and a little brighter than the printer managed prints.
So, Vendor Managed means printer manages, ColorSync means LR manages.
Thanks, everyone, for keeping me going on tracking this down!
