ACR 5.1 on Mac: won't open Nikon P6000 raw (.NRW)

The compact Nikon p6000 has a new raw format .NRW and I cannot open it in ACR 5.1. Bridge will not render thumbnails either.
In another thread I found elsewhere, a user shows the screen below proving he can open an NRW in CS4/ACR 5.1.
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1007&message=29821435
I appear to have the same configuration but I cannot open these files. What's the trick?
Thanks in advance,
Peter G.

Fixed it! I compared the Camera Raw plug-in dates and the one on my Mac had a create date of 10/20/08. I compared it to the one from the adobe download site and that has a create date of 10/9/08.
So I moved the existing one, re-downloaded the one from the adobe site and copied in manually. So what would have changed the create date on the plug-in on my computer? Not sure. It was installed by CS4 automatically.
My guess is that the installation of the Camera Profiles beta did something to the Camera Raw plug-in. The P6000 camera is new and I had not tried the raw prior to installing the Camera Profiles? Not gonna fret it as it is working now, but the troubleshooter in me is curious how it happened.
Thanks to all who contributed.
Note: in Bridge now, when I highlight the thumbnail of an NRW, on the right side in Metadata/File Properties, it says Document Type "Camera Raw Image".... before it was saying "nrw".

P.G.

  • CS6 - Camera Raw 7.1 won't open Nikon D7100 RAW files anymore

I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 installed on it.
I use CS6 and a few days ago, I started having trouble when loading files (JPEG & RAW files via Camera Raw). If I loaded more than two or three files, it would crash Photoshop. I tried loading JPEG directly into Photoshop, and it would still crash after 2 minutes. I tried restarting PS, reset my settings to default, restart my PC, and still the problem persisted. I checked the RAM and scratch disks, etc, there was no change with it. I decided I would reinstalled CS6. I did and now Photoshop works perfectly. I can even load JPEG via Camera Raw and it works without crashing. But then, my RAW files won't load via Camera Raw. I have the latest one from what I saw on Adobe's website  - Version 7.1.0.354. Others listed are DNG converter but I don't need that.
The RAW files I am trying to open are from a Nikon D7100 camera and before, those same files would open with Camera Raw 7.1.
Can someone please help me out on this. I am a bit desesperate cause I urgently need to edit files on Camera Raw because all my settings are saved on this.
When I open a raw file, this is the message I get:

In any event, Kathleen, you should NOT be using that obsolete ACR 7.1 version.  Besides, the Nikon D7100 is not supported by that version, as you have already been correctly told.
Update to ACR 8.6 for CS6 ASAP.
Going through the Help menu in Photoshop CS6 (Help > Updates) will/should update you automatically.  If for some reason, the auto updater fails, here's the link to the ACR 8.6 manual install:
    Windows
    CameraRaw_8_6_Installer.zip
One should never be using anything but the latest version of Adobe Camera Raw (ACR).
Even if you were using a camera supported by your obsolete version, you are leaving a lot of image quality on the table now.  The rendering of the more recent versions of ACR is demonstrably superior, starting with 7.4.
It is a shame to be using a decent camera—even if it's not a top of the line Nikon—and be in effect trashing some of its image quality.  Really.

  • PSCS3 won't open Nikon D7000 RAW files

I just purchased a Nikon D7000. Shot some RAW files and tried to download to iPhoto, not possible. SO, installed Nikon VIEW NX2, and Transfer 2. RAW images downloaded to my computer (late 2008 Macbook Pro, Leopard 10.5.8, Camera RAW plug-in 6) into ViEW 2. But showing the followiing format:   _DSC001.NEF
    Normally, it should read:  DSC_001.NEF
SO within the Nikon software, I can work on the image, but I cannot export it into PS.  It comes up with an error that the image format is unreadable.  (Nor can I find how to get it out of VIEW NX2 , but that might just be my lack of reading all the info there, will see)
I contacted Nikon and they told me to change something in Image Capture in my MAC apps. I went there, but Image Capture was already set to the change they asked me to do.
I tried to download again, but same problem. I tried to download into iPhoto, in order to try and get it into PS,  but it wouldn't. All files were unreadable.
JPEG, however, does download, with both file formats, and opensin iPhoto and PS, whether there is a _ first or a letter first.
SO, I don't know what to do. I am assuming all my plug-in's are up to date.
My D70 RAW transfers fine!!! The D7000, not.
Any info out there??? Nikon has not replied back a second time when I responded to them.
Thank you for any help. I welcome it all.

    Thanks, all of you.
I downloaded Adobe Camera Raw DNG 6.4 (Not 7.1 as I read it worked slow and had some bugs still in it) and backcomplied it to open in a 4.6 format. It works to open RAW in my PSCS3 now. Great! Of course I definitely will be checking out PSCS6 Extended for an upgrade, but for now, I can use this.
I have 3 questions that I am not clear on.
    1) When I converted, I included the 'original raw file' within the DNG, as opposed to NOT incuding it. They say you can open it later, that it is inside the DNG. Please someone explain to me how this can be when I am adjusting and cropping my files after opening in RAW.? (OK I know nothing about this). Where do I find the file???
    2) I did notice a little bit of color loss, or maybe it is in the Adobe 1998 color space, but it seemed to transfer fine. Is this the case?
    3) If I save in Tiff, would the embedded file still be in the DNG ??It would no longer be a DNG file. I am asuming that I SHOULD be saving an original conversion in DNG for archives and to make copies from.  I really do not understand this. I am saving the original NEF file in the Nikon VIEW NX2 for later use as a backup.
    Thank you again.

  • ACR 7.0 in Released version of CS6 doesn't open Nikon D800 raw files.

The ACR 7.0 that installs with rhe released version of Photoshop CS6 still won't open Nikon d800 raw files.

Noel - I do use a card reader and always have! I don't go direct from the camera. As I point out, I am working around the problems that are stated above and I am here forcing myself to learn by asking those questions. Thanks though. I’m not ignoring anyone if I were I wouldn’t have all the comments above.
Jeff - I mentioned that I'm a teacher and need to know what I'm doing with the software. Sorry for the attitude.
I am an artist before a teacher it’s just that I like to be proficient when I teach (google me).
Why do you feel such animosity towards education? I’m really sorry I posted here at all.

I am equally as surprised and not blaming LR4 just making an observation. I have used LR for years and manage a library of over 60,000 images with it. It is my software of choice and will continue to be. But this has become a persistent problem only with the D800 14bit NEF +- 45MB files, all other files from my Nikon DX cameras and my Canon cameras are fine. I’m not blaming LR4 it could also be the Nikon NEF, I just don’t know why LR4 truncates the D800 files and other software doesn’t.
    - if I move files using Nikon ViewNX 2 or Windows7 Explorer the files simply move without problem. When I move them using LR4 they become truncated (no end of file error message). If I move them with LR4 and then copy over them into the new folder with the original copy, LR4 corrects and is able to deal with the file in their new destination. (this means a lot of extra work and saving the originals in another directory LR4 doesn’t see).
It's confusing. I have reinstalled LR4 3 times already and checked the hard disks. The bottom line is that both Windows and ViewNX will move the file without altercation. I don’t know why? Yet further confusion. Please realize that I am aware this may be an isolated issue and I intend to ask one of the college techs. to look at the problem.
I am not attacking Adobe, I only use Adobe products with my images and I want it to work that’s why I came here in the first place. I have a lot of money invested in Adobe software both here and all our other licences. Please stop using words like blame, reporting an issue is not blaming. Don’t shoot me I’m just conveying my current (personal) experiences with the product. I’m trying to figure out why and how to make it work.
This is my last post on this thread. Thanks a lot for all your help. I remain a faithful Adobe client and appreciative of all your kind remarks and assistance above.

  • Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. How do I get and install the right version of Camera Raw?

Adobe Bridge CS6 (Mac) won't open .arw files from my Sony RX100. I was told to update Camera Raw to at least 7.2. I tried to download this but got a DNG Converter instead. Where is Camera Raw? (it does not show up in a search of my hard drive. There is a folder of camera profiles but no extension or plug-in with this name). How do I find out what version I have already? How do I get the correct version?  . . . OR . . . is it the case that Bridge will never open Sony raw files directly and I will have to do a separate conversion process every time I want to use a raw file??. Can someone explain this?
    Thanks.

CDs from my MAC won't open on other computers

    Any computer, Mac or Windows?
If so, it's likely your drive. You have no problem reading them back because your drive wrote it, so the heads are in the same place to read as write.
The problem is the same as way back to the days of floppy disks. If a drive's heads are out of alignment, disks you create will only work well for you. On any other computer, the tracks are not in the standard position.
To check, try using an external drive (or a different one if that's what you're already using). If the problem goes away using a different drive, then your current one is no good.

You need camera raw 8.4 for your camera, if it’s Digital Rebel T5 EOS 1200D EOS Kiss X70. It is not compatible with PSE11; so it’s a bit odd if that software was bundled with the camera except that it will work with jpegs. I suggest you download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will editable in PSE11(keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.4
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

You will need to wait for the next camera raw update. You have two alternatives:
    (1) Use Nikon software to convert. (2) Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your NEF files to the Adobe Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original NEF’s as backups and for use in Nikon software)
Windows download click here DNG Converter 7.1

  • New Camera RAW in Photoshop CC 2014 won't open multiple Panasonic RAW (.rw2) at the same time from Windows Explorer.

New Camera RAW in Photoshop CC 2014 won't open multiple Panasonic RAW (.rw2) at the same time from Windows Explorer.  If I select 2 raw files and click "Open" Camera RAW will only open 1 raw, then when I click "Done" it will close and open the second, sequentially.  Previous Photoshop CC and RAW worked fine, it would open mulitple RAW at the same time.  How do I fix this?

If it worked for you that way previously there isn't much to comment about. I just tried opening multiple images from Windows Explorer with Photoshop CS6 and Camera Raw 8.6, and the first image would open and when I clicked cancel then the second image would open. But if I wanted multiple images opened in Camera Raw to work on them simultaneously it was necessary for me to open them from Bridge. I just did it as an experiment because I normally use Lightroom. Anyway, IF it was a feature at one time to work as you described, it doesn't seem to be that way now.

  • Opening Nikon D7000 raw files in Elements 8

I am unable to open Nikon D7000 NEF files in Elements 8. I have been unsuccessfull in downloading the version 5.7 update from the web site. After downloading several times the files are still not recognized in Elements 8.

I am using Windows 7. I tried selecting the folder that contained the folder holding the pictures to be converted. I then single-clicked the folder holding the pictures and hit select. A message came up stating that the source folder did not contain any supported camera raw files.I have spoken with my Elements software supplier and this is his response:
"I've done some digging and it turns out the Nikon D7000 wasn't supported in elements until the release of version 6.4 Adobe Camera Reader. So to make sure you have the latest ACR update installed. You can check which one you have by going into elements and clicking Help>About Plug-In>Camera Raw. And if it's not 6.7 then Help>Updates will find it and let you install the latest version. You could also try saving your camera files as .RAW instead of .NEF, and then opening them in elements. Adobe lightroom 4 should already have these plugins available right outside the box, but if you can save the money and run updates instead that would work just fine." I have checked for Elements updates for the Camera Raw plug-in and the message appears stating no updates are available. The camer raw plug-in version is currently 6.1.0.250.

What operating system are you using?
The most common cause is pointing the dng converter to the actual files and not just to the folder that the camera raw files are in.
There is an example of how on a windows system in this thread:

  • Cannot open Nikon 1V2 Raw files in CS5

    Hello!
I cannot open Nikon 1V2 Raw files in CS5
Camera Raw Version is 5.0.0.178, PS CS5 Version 11.0.2
Anyone have a suggestion that does not involve upgrading to a newer version of Photoshop?
    Thanks!
    Kelly

Does this mean that I can't get Camera Raw 7.3 with Photoshop CS5?
    Naturally.
Photoshop CS5 does not use ACR 7.
I did read about using the free DNG Converter but that seems like an extra step I would prefer to avoid if possible.
Either upgrade Photoshop or use another means to process the RAW files, and cost-wise DNG Converter can hardly be beat.

  • What plug in do i need for cs5 to open nikon 5200 raw files?

What plug in do I need in cs5 to open Nikon 5200 raw files?

There's no direct support for your camera in CS5.
It would require ACR 7.3 or higher, which only work with CS6.
You can download and run the free Adobe DNG Converter 7.4 to convert your raw Canon files to raw DNGs which you can then open in CS5.

  • How can i open Nikon D610 RAW files in Element 12 ?

How can i open Nikon D610 RAW files in Element 12 ?

You need the ACR 8.3 plug-in to open D610 NEF files.
Check what Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw reports for the version number.
If it is something less than 8.3, update to the ACR 8.3 plug-in using Help / Updates from the Editor.  If that says there are no updates, then uninstall and re-install and try again.
If it is already ACR 8.3 then the files are likely corrupted by using an obsolete version of Nikon Transfer or ViewNX with them.
You can fix that corruption using a utility from the following webpage, where 14-bits is likely what you’d want to specify, and only use Nikon utilities that are as new as your camera:

If a camera is not covered by your version of ACR, download a free copy of the Adobe DNG converter and convert the file. Your ACR will read the converted file.
