ACR 5.4 and Elements

I wonder why we users of Elements are being treated as second class citizens and are not allowed the pre-release use of ACR 5.4? I find that the Olympus software supplied with my new DSLR is usable, but only just, and I want to get back to the convenience of RAW within Elements. I do wonder when ACR 5.4 will be released for us proles. Does anyone know?

You really only need to copy the .8bi file into the right place to get Elements to work, but the RC executable only runs if CS4 is installed. It seems like Labs could have easily supplied a .ZIP of just the .8bi file for Elements users, but they didn't.
If you're really wanted to get to the RC .8bi file, then you could theoretically download and install the trial version of CS4 Extended and then run the ACR RC updater on that--which would hopefully work, and then find the .8bi file and copy it over to the proper Elements folder. Of course then you have to worry about getting Photoshop, itself, off your system, completely, and it might be best to also reinstall PSE, again, just so the file-associations would be pointing to it, in case PS stole some of them. Or if you have a friend that has Photoshop CS4 installed, have them install the ACR RC and copy the file from them.

ACR 4.6 and Elements 5 for D90?

I have downloaded the beta ACR 4.6 and copied the Camera Raw.8bi file to:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 5.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats\
It is correctly installed as when I open Nikon D40 .NEF files already in the Organiser it opens ACR4.6. However when I try and import Nikon D90 .NEF files I receive an error message saying the files are corrupt/not a supported format and therefore cannot be imported into the Organiser.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a workaround?

Yes I use a card reader. It's not an issue with reading the card as I'm currently shooting the D90 as RAW+Fine JPEG. When I launch Elements Photo Downloader it shows me the NEF files + the JPEGS but only the thumbprint image for the JPEGs (The NEF files all have the same icon). It allow me to select both the NEFs + JPEGs for loading into the organiser but then fails to load the NEFs, saying the file is unrecognised or damaged.
I can however open the NEFs from ACR4.6 within the Elements 5 editor. I'm assuming therefore that ACR 4.6/the editor are fine working with D90 NEFs but the 'Photo Downloader' part of Elements isn't.
Any further thoughts?

Sony A300 ACR Defaults noisy and over exposed

I have a A300, ACR 5.1 and Elements 6.0 I have recently compared three raw plugins, Adobe ACR, Sony's image convertor and Silkypix free. With the Sony s/w I turned off all automatic processing. The results are a surprise.
The same raw file has much more noise when being opened in ACR and requires a great deal of exposure reduction to reduce highlights and get the highlight warning to disappear from within the plugin.
When saved as jpegs from the various covertors the ACR is noiser and all settings seem too strong. On very noisey photos (or at least photo that look noisey from within ACR) it some times isn't possible to clean up the noise. It just doesn't seem ACR is doing a propper job of opening the Sony raw files.
I do like the ACR plugin and it is much quicker than the Sony but at the moment there does a ppear to be a quality loss using it.

OK, well I just tried this on a landscape image that is basically almost all high/mid frequency:
Amount 150
Radius 0.5
Detail 0
Masking 0 (although I would mask appropriately with any image)
and then compared it to
Amount 35
Radius 0.5
Detail 100
Masking 0
Critical viewing was at 100, 200, 300 and 400% in ACR.
I am really surprised at this! Although the sharpening is extremely close to the same amount in appearance (at 100%) the first settings with detail at 0, to my eye has a lot cleaner edges (less halowing) and definitely less artifacting in smoother areas (even w no masking). Basically at the edges of the image there seems to be less feathering of pixels transitioning them (may interpolate up better this way?).
I will do some more testing, to see how the file then handles Sharpening for Output (with the new datail at 0 settings). I am thinking at this point that your detail at 0 idea might be sound. Less artifacting and cleaner edges seems to mean that the file will take more aggressive sharpening after up sizing it, and then the grain simulation I use to disguise the artifacting may be able to be a little less aggressive.
Question, do you still approach the masking (ACR) the same way?
Lastly, I tried using the first settings of sharpening on an image interpolated to max size in ACR (about 20MP) and then tried the same capture sharpening settings on an image at native size (about 12MP) then interpolated up to 20MP using PS Smoother (remembering that ACR applies the sharpening after the uprez). I have found the ACR uprez to have more detail at ultra zoom levels. But if ACR applies the capture sharpening after the ACR uprez (if my reading is right, Jeff S said that) and the other is capture sharpened at native pixel size and then uprezzed with Bicubic Smoother, aren't I just comparing apples with oranges? Also, when taking a image from 12.9 to 19.5MP is the ACR interpolating using its algorithm that is like Smoother?

, i have been trying for years to install acr 6.7 and no luck. mac 10.0.4 pse ver 10.   i have downloaded acr 6.7 (says installed successful) shows up in my download files.   then clicked on the patch installer.   it runs successfully. but then when go to PSE and look under plug ins it is not there.   i also, went to my finder window and looked under library, adobe support files, plug ins... and it is not there. am i missing a step in getting this complete.
please help. i have tried everything over the years.   thank you.

First download the 6.7 camera raw update for pse 10
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
Then follow the steps below:
1. Double click on the ElementsCameraRaw-6.7-mul-AdobeUpdate.dmg you downloaded
    Then double click on the payloads folder
2. Inside the payloads>CameraRawForElements6.4All-200412083947 folder, double click on
    the CameraRawForElements6.4All-200412083947.dmg
3. Double click on the Assets2 folder
4. Inside the Assets2>universal folder is the Camera Raw.plugin
   Open a new Finder window (Command+N) and go to
/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/Elements 10/File Formats
and drag the Camera Raw.plugin from the universal folder to the File Formats folder
5. Download and install the 6.7 Dng Converter to get the required camera raw profiles
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 6.7
Hopefully, after all that, the camera raw plugin should work in photoshop elements 10

Nikon D600 and Elements 10

Hi
I recently bought a Nikon D600 and don't seem to be able to load photos onto Photoshop Elements 10. Any suggested solutions would be most appreciated. I have tried to install "Updates" from the Help menu but it says that the applications are all up-to-date.
Is Camera RAW 7.3 just for CS and not for Elements?

No, it's for PSE, too, but only for PSE 11. You can use the Nikon software to convert the files or download the free DNG converter from Adobe and use that to create files that your version of ACR can read, or upgrade to PSE 11. ACR 8.3 & Premier Elements 12

I just installed Premier Elements 12 and yesterday and up popped the update for ACR8.3. Never knew Premier Elements used ACR
The payload for ACR 8.3 for Elements was about 50 MB smaller than the payload for ACR8.3 for Photoshop - so they may not be the same? But for the dickens of me I cannot figure out how ACR is used by Premier Elements other than being able to import a RAW file - There is no adjustment panel for correcting white balance, exposure etc etc. So is it just used to import RAW files?
Anyone have any ideas as to how ACR is used in Premier Elements?

ACR 4.6 and PSE6 Organizer still crashes

I posted this a long time ago for ACR 4.5 and I'm gonna do it again for CR 4.6. Please read below I'm still having the same problem with ACR 4.6 (BETA).
I'm experiencing the following problem when I download ACR 4.5 to be used with PSE6.
The problem is that the PSE6 Organizer crash when I try to open the Organizer Preferences. Aparently this only happens with Windows
Vista because I know of other users with XP and they are not expiriencing this.
I did try it with the original ACR 4.2 and works well.
I did try it with the previous ACR 4.4 and works well.
It only happens when you install the 4.5 and go to the Organizer's Preferences.
And stills happens with ACR 4.6.
When I contact the Adobe Customer Support they told me to wait until the new version of ACR, well I guess that nobody there analyze/investigate/test my issue.

I ran ACR 4.5 for a short while with Photoshop Elements under Vista Home Premium without ever seeing your problem.
Being a Mac user accustomed to the full version of Photoshop, which I still use on my Mac desktop, I was so frustrated by the limitations of Photoshop Elements I was running on the Windows Vista laptop that I asked for a refund from Adobe (and got it too). But I never had anything crash on me while running ACR 4.5 on it.

DNG 4.5 and Elements 6.0

I just downloaded Camera Raw 4.5 and DNG 4.5 but in Elements 6 I can only open Camera Raw , but when I try to save in dng format, I dont see the new DNG 4.5 working with Elements 6.0 only its older version...how can i integrate the new one, DNG 4.5 ???raf

Thanks, I run Windows vista. I guess what i was trying to say is , that after installing ACR 4.5 in Elements 6.0 there is also DNG converter running .You cannot save directly photos into jpgs from RAW. So this can be done by saving files(pictures) in DNG format only. The DNG converter in my camera raw 4.5, after installantion-- seems like is outdated version, definatelly not DNG 4.5 i can run separetlly and the version I downloaded together with the Camera Raw 4.5...I' d like to to uninstall the older version and install the newest one , is that possible??? I only were able to upgrade camera raw software....thanks , raf

CR2 files and Elements 12

I have a Canon EOS 70D and Elements 12 (bought and downloaded today) won't open the CR2 files. How can this be rectified? I normally shoot in RAW for best quality.

Help> Updates will update ACR to v8.4 and add support for the 70D.

Is ACR 8.2 available for Elements 12?

Elements continues to include Adobe Camera Raw, though it's not as full-featured as the one in Photoshop.
Elements 12 supports ACR 8.x, and updates will be released at the same time as they are for Photoshop. Those who don't need the full suite of Photoshop and ACR tools may find Elements enticing, as it doesn't require a Creative Cloud subscription.

No ACR Update for Photoshop Elements 13.1 ?

Hello all,
that latest ACR update for Photoshop Elements 13 seems to be 8.7.1 released in December.
In the meantime ACR 8.8 and ACR 9.0 have been released, but obviously not for Photoshop Elements.
Does anybody have an idea whether there will be further ACR updates for PSE or not ?

12 hours later, I tried a Help / Updates in PSE13.1 Editor and I am getting ACR 9 so it just took a few more hours for Adobe to get the update ready, at least in the US.

Dreamweaver CC automatically deletes code in code view and elements in design view

When I open a file in Dreamweaver, it automatically shows a * next to the filename - showing it has been edited.
Then often when I select some code in code view, or an element in design view (such as a table, an image, some text) it is suddenly deleted.
The problem is especially bad (happens without fail) if I am switching between programs. But also happens when I'm not switching.
I do not have this problem on a different user account.
I have reinstalled Dreamweaver three times now. Also renamed preference and configuration folders. Tried with a wired mouse and keyboard. Nothing has worked.
I can't think what I did to cause this. I installed MAMP recently - but have uninstalled it correctly I think.
I had an issue with one file in which there were about 30 Spry collapsible panels. I kept getting this warning:
"A script in file Macintosh HD:Applications:Adobe Dreamweaver CC:Configuration:Shared:Spry:DesignTime:EditingUtils.js has been running for a long time. Do you want to continue?"
I have to click 'yes' many times to get into the file, and the warning keeps coming up while the file is open.
However, my big issue of DW CC deleting code and elements happens whether or not this particular file is open.
So this may have nothing to do with it.
Any ideas anyone?
Adobe's customer service has not helped. In fact, I have not even been able to get through to anyone on the phone - having waited literally hours listening to music, and getting shunted from person to person. And then their promised 'call backs' never happen.

I do not have this problem on a different user account.
You've got a bad/corrupted user account. Create a new one with Admin level priveleges and delete your old user.

Raw updates needed for CS5 and Elements 11?

I have several adobe products. I want to install the latest raw updates for CS5 Photoshop and Elements 11. The app. manager tells me I have the latest updates. My CS6 product updated the newest raw product but not my others. I would like to get phone support for these issues - is there a phone number that connects to real people? The %^*()^ support section on the web takes me around in circles - very frustrating. Any help out there?

the good old argument is at what point do you stop supporting stuff? Elements is now up to 13.
I assume Adobe would argue you have cc already why are you still using cs5?
As I read it, the new 8.7 raw is only good for cs6 and above. They won't make 2 versions of raw, so I assume you are still on 7.4 for cs5?
On that basis, alas stick with your cs6 to do the newer stuff you need.
