ACR 5.4 Beta shows up with Japanese Text

1. i just downloaded--> installed ACR 5.4 beta and DNG.
2. the DNG looks normal (ie just like the prior version etc...).
3. however, when i open up ACR, everything is in japanese text, including the photoshop headers etc... no big deal at this time, because i'm sure this is going to be fixed and i know what all the sliders are about etc... but just an FYI.

2. as per what the other person noted--> what you suggested isn't that easy (basically i'm stuck).
3. first of all, i was able to find--> download a prior version or ACR--> manually placed it in the correct spot--> fired up a RAW file--> everything looks normal (ie english text etc...).
4. i then downloaded ACR 5.4 and proceeded with the reinstall. however at this point, the installer said that i couldn't install 5.4 because it was already installed in my cpu. i manually looked as well as did a search for camera raw 5.4 in spotlight--> couldn't find it. i also searched adobe photoshop help in re: unstalling things--> nothing.
5. thus the question is: how in the world do i uninstall camera raw 5.4 (i'm not even sure it's in my cpu but the installer thinks it is etc...).

6. by the way, while i'm at it, in adobe bridge, 5.4 doesn't recognize my Olympus E-620 raw files (ie can't see the thumbnail image), but when i actually open up the image in ACR--> the image is there etc... thus, there's also funky going on with bridge.

SQL Subscription field shows * only with Dynamic Text Label in SQL query

We are using Hyperion Analyzer 7.2.x for showing budget and actual data. I have to show this financial data based on the security e.g. person in IT can see only IT dept. data. Hence I want to use dynamic text label <<userid>> for the security based on the person logging in to Analyzer.
But when I use dynamic text label <<userid>> in the SQL query in SQL Spreadsheet, SQL Subscription field shows * only selection option. Does anyone have idea how to solve this problem?

Okay i know this is a bit crazy way.....but i think this is the solution for your issue.
Create a report without the where clause (<<useris>>) then add a filter (sql subscription) then you can find all the values that are there in the SQL field (try to increase the query limit it is set to 250 as default) then edit the spreadsheet and add the where clause (<<userid>>).
This will help you having the filter and the dynamic text label. I think there is an issue when you try to filter it with a where clause.

Why does MBP with Bootcamp show windows with blurry text?

I have a Macbook Pro with bootcamp. for some reason when I open chrome or other windows, the text shows up blurry, searched the web and noone seems to have found an answer. Anyone with the same problem?

I have tried multiple resolutions, it is exactly the same. In fact, when I first started it up in bootcamp because of the huge resolution all of the window bars at the top of the screen were tiny and out of proportion.

Can I use Japanese text in Dreamweaver CS4?

The head section of the page, set the characterset to UTF*, like this:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
Then type in or paste in the Japanese text.

Help with Nikon D600 NEF files, CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta

I have been unable to open NEF files from my Nikon D600 in Photoshop CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta. Any suggestions/guidance would be much appreciated.
RAW was set to 14 bit color, but I can't see that that would matter?

From discussion with others, it would appear that the files were corrupted during transfer.
I have some suggestions that I will try tomorow.
I have no problems opening old Nikon D700 NEF files in Photoshop CS6, and when ACR opens the file it indicates I'm using ACR 7.3 beta.

Why does the zynga toolbar not work or even show up with Firefox 4.0 beta 12

I installed the Zynga toolbar last week and it does not show up, but in the properties it shows installed, but I can not get it to show up with the other toolbars.

Just as a general comments:
* if you use more than one version of firefox you need to create separate profiles for each, or you probably will run into problems see [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Testing_pre-release_versions]
* if you are using the new 'firefox button' click on that and look for the toolbar viewing options, and any other options it lists
Sorry I do not use Zynga, and do not know whether it is even fully compatible with Firefox 4 beta, alternatively it may even use the apps tabs feature see [[What are App Tabs?]]

ACR 7.1 Beta & Photoshop CS6 Lens Profiles

If I open a Nikon RAW (NEF) file in ACR 7.1 Beta it correctly finds my Camera and Lens Combination Nikon D3 with the Nikon 24-70m f2,8 with the Adobe Lens Profile. However, when I leave ACR and the image is open in Photoshop, go to Filter, Lens Correction it does not automatically detect the correct camera and lens combination.
It shows the Camera Make as NIKON CORPORATION, but the Camera Model and Lens Model are not detected and I am asked to choose. In the Lens Profiles I see two choices, one for a Nikon D3x with the correct lens, the other for a generic Nikon Camera with a Sigma 24-70 F2.8.
I would have thought the detection process would have been the same?

I was just curious and hunting around ACR 7.1 and Photoshop trying our the features. Also I have found that LR4 RC2 has follows ACR 7.1 as far as lens profiles go working with RAW images, so there is some consistency.
Wonder what the difference is between a RAW rendered image in ACR versus a Photoshop rendered image. Given, I could be wrong here, that Lens Correction is based on the optics of the lens, focal length, and the characteristics of the sensor, so would they not be the same in ACR and Photoshop?
I think I need to go check out a lens profiler

There is one reason that I may go back into the Lens Correction Filter and that might be to fine tune some of the persective tools. With a large panorama much easier to see what needs to be done rather than view seperate images, and i have done that in the past. did not come to me until after I had hit the Send Button

Is CS3 better for working with RAW images than Elements 6?

Hi all,
I am trying to find out if it is worth buying CS3 in stead of elements 6. Surprisingly, nobody has been able to tell me what the difference exactly is.
The best I got so far was that elements is a trimmed down version of CS3 but what more can I do with CS3?
As I am in England, CS3 would cost me about $1100, as opposed to $650 in the US, which is a bit much if you don’t know exactly what you get for that amount.
It says something on the adobe features section about BETTER raw processing, but not compared to what. Old version? Other software? Better than nothing?
I will be running it under XP, and the only use will be to optimise images from a digital camera in RAW format, 90%, and a jpeg (10)%, partially for web use, partially for prints.
The most common things are:
Correcting exposure when pics are unevenly lit.
Correcting color temperature.
Removing unwanted parts of a picture e.g. somebody stepping into the picture, advertising signs or copyrighted material.
Altering color of small parts of an image like that of a single flower in a bouquet.
Removing blemishes in portraits.
The photos will always stay single photos, I can not foresee any use for slide shows, animations, video or anything related.
From what I have been able to find out so far, it seems that Elements 6 will do all this and I don’t need to spend the extra $1000, or should I?

I have not used Photoshop Elements since version 2.0. In that version it was very similar to Photoshop as far as how the interface was designed. There were a few key elements that were missing such as the Curve adjustment. It is my understanding that there is a free download available from a third party source that will provide that capability.
As far as Camera Raw is concerned, you only have the adjustments that are on the basic panel and the details panel. That means you don't have all of the hue/saturation/luminance adjustments, or lens correction, or the capability to create presets, or to calibrate ACR specifically for your camera. As I understand it, it is not possible to load multiple images into ACR so that you can apply changes to all of them at once. And I don't believe you have the option of working in ACR in 16-bit mode.
With Photoshop Elements it is not possible to record actions to enable you to do batch processing of your images. What you have is a good quality basic single image photo editor.
I cannot tell you which to purchase. I don't know what you are accustomed to, nor do I fully understand your expectations. There are trial versions of both programs that you can download and try for 30 days to see what you think. They are fully functioning programs for that trial period, which should be ample time for you to determine which program will give you the most value.

ACR 4.4.1 not Compatible with CS and CS3

ACR 4.4.1 (and beta4.5) does not work properly on a Windows XP Pro (SP2) computer with both CS and CS3 installed. A Raw file from Pentax 1stDS (.PEF) opened in CS3 through ACR 4.4.1 shows a black thumbnail in the History palette beside the file name. Conversion of the file to Lab Color shows a black image. ACR beta 4.5 shows the same behavior. No version of ACR subsequent to 4.3.1 have worked properly on the Windows computer with CS and CS3 installed. Versions of ACR subsequent to 4.3.1 and prior to 4.4.1 had other idiosyncrasies.

A lot of users prefer to print from CS (Photoshop 8 ) because for many users printing is broken in CS2 and in CS3.
I have Photoshop 7.0.1, 8, 9.0.2 and 10.0.1 installed on my Mac without any problems whatsoever. The ACR plug-in is installed in the appropriate location for each version of Photoshop.
To launch multiple versions of Photoshop, simply launch the older version first.
But, and this is a very big but,
this may not work in Windows. I don't know.

Showing Items with no transactions

I am trying to build a report that will show us items with potentially incorrect item status. Item status (on table itmmas) is either A(ctive) or I(nactive). The report should show all Inactive items which have had at least one transaction in the past 4 weeks AND active items which have had no transactions in that period.
My plan is to join the item master table to the item ledger table (itmldg) which lists all inventory transactions. I can show the inactive items with transactions without a problem.
What I can't figure out is how to show items with Active Status that don't have any transactions. I can't get CR to return a data set which includes ALL records from itmmas but only those from itmldg in the last 4 weeks. I tried this SQL query:
SELECT itmmas.itmiid, itmmas.itmdes, itmmas.itmsts, itmldg.ilgdno, itmldg.ilgdat
FROM {oj itmmas LEFT OUTER JOIN itmldg ON itmmas.itmiid = itmldg.ilgiid}
WHERE (itmldg.ilgdat>={d '2009-09-01'})
When I run this query in MS Query and return the results to Excel, I get single lines for items with no transactions. For these items, the fields from itmldg are NULL. When I run this query in CR, I don't get any data for items with no transactions.
Can anyone think of a way to get this to work?

The issue that you have is that the WHERE clause in your SQL statement is only looking at an itmldg table field for a value. This is effectively making your Left Outer Join an Inner Join, because when an itmmas record does not have an itmldg record, the date field will be NULL. You have to add the condition "OR itmldg.ilgdat is null".
If you want to return ONLY the records that the report is interested in (which should have beter performance), change the SQL to
SELECT itmmas.itmiid, itmmas.itmdes, itmmas.itmsts, itmldg.ilgdno, itmldg.ilgdat
FROM {oj itmmas LEFT OUTER JOIN itmldg ON itmmas.itmiid = itmldg.ilgiid}
WHERE ((itmldg.ilgdat>={d '2009-09-01'}) and (itmmas.itmsts = 'I'))
or ((itmldg.ilgdat is null) and (itmmas.itmsts = 'A'))

Plenty of sites list and summarize individual patches, I want one that consolidates problems and complaints so I can better assess the risk. Currently I'm waiting to install patches several days and doing google searches. That works, but I'd rather find a place
that does it with expertise.

Japanese document names not showing up in Japanese letters

This is a screen font problem, I believe.
Up until recently, I set my main language to Japanese with English as a sub-language. Thus all menus and computer HELP etc. was in Japanese. But, I no longer need to do that, so I changed my main language to English so I can see HELP and menus in English. I kept Japanese as the sub-language. I am so much happier now that I can use the computer in English, but do work in Japanese.
I can still type in Japanese - I need to do that, and I view internet pages in Japanese. WORD docs - I can type in Japanese with no problem. But I have noticed an odd thing. Any document I name using Japanese letters turns to greeked text when viewed on the desktop or in a selection window when looking for a doc to open. But when I open the file, I can see the correct Japanese letters of the name of the file at the top of the doc. window.
ALSO - and this is odd-, any old file that I named using Japanese letters before I switched languages, still shows on the desktop in the correct Japanese letters. It shows up correctly everywhere. Never greeked.
Why do old files show the correct Japanese letters and NEW files only get greeked??
Is there any way I can chanage the screen font or system font to OSAKA, the font used for Japanese sytesms, but in my English/Japanese sytsem?? Why is my screen font showing old files correctly in the Japanese language, but it can not display newly made file names in Japanese (the Japanese content inside the file is no problem. it shows up correctly.)
I realize that I can workaround this problem just by naming all my files using English text, but that seems incomplete and not a real answer to me.

Is this problem only with Word docs (and not, say TextEdit)? If so, Word X or Word 2004? Japanese or English Word? For a Word problem you might want to ask on their support groups too:

Problem in working with Japanese data

We have an application, which should work for both English and Japanese languages. Our application is working fine for English data but in case of Japanese, we are facing problems. In the application, there is a language setting, where the user can select either English or Japanese. This changes the language of the labels to English or Japanese. We are handling this thru' ResourceBundles. But the data that is entered can be independent of this. In English setting also, the data entered or diplayed could be Japanese. Now we are facing problems at vaious places -
1. When we enter Japanese data and save it, it gets copied into the bean and if there is any error in the saving, the same data from bean comes back on the screen. This data doesn't appear properly in Japanese.
2. When we try to retrieve the already saved data from database, it doesn't show poperly in Japanese.
We are using our own 'toUnicode' function, which converts the data to Unicode before saving the data to database. Similarly, we have tried different encodings like SJIS / Shift_JIS / ISO-2022-JP at various places i.e. in 'Page' directive or in HTML Meta tag or various combinations of these two. Nothing is working reliably. Sometimes for some combination, data retained in the first case is correct but it can't be saved. Sometimes it works with Unicode, sometimes without Unicode. Some combination affects the Japanese labels as well. Otherwise the labels at least are displayed properly.
The same code with just Shift_JIS setting in 'page' directive, worked well in IIS Server for both English and Japanese.
What could be the problem in WebLogic? Does it matter if WL is installed on English or Japanese machine?
Kindly answer ASAP, since the project is getting delayed.

Can LabView Japanese be installed on Windows XP MUI with Japanese as the default language?

I recently set up a computer for a client in Japan using Windows XP PRO MUI version. When they tried to install their Labview Japanese, it "turned into garbled characters."
From the Microsoft link it appears there are some differences between a fully localized Japanese Windows and the MUI version"
on localized versions:
The user interface resources are fully localized.
The
Windows Setup information, such as system locale, user locale, keyboard
layout, etc. is customized for the specific language/country. This is a
policy setting with the Multilingual User Interface Pack.
Additional country specific device drivers are added in the East Asian versions only.
There
is support for upgrades from localized versions of Windows 9X or
Windows 2000 to localized Windows XP. MUI only supports upgrades from
English versions.
Because the resources used in a localized
version are used to create MUI, there is no difference between the
actual translations. This results in a nearly full localization, apart
from small elements that are still dependent on:
INF files.
UI strings stored in the registry.
etc.
My question: Should it be possible to install Japanese Labview on top of Windows MUI with Japanese set as the user language and default language? My assumption was Yes, but now they appear to be unable to get this to work. Are there specific workarounds, policy changes, or drivers that can be done to get this to work?

"Unrated or better" shows no photos in browser after Lion upgrade

After upgrading to Lion I have found my Aperture library isnt working as it used to. At first I thought I lost all of my photos, but am able to reveal them in my library under photos, but not within the projects.
If I click into a project say "Wedding" I cant see any photos in my browser, If I hover my cursor over the project name it shows "Wedding - 909 versions".
The filter selected (default) is "Unrated or Better" and this shows up no photos. Many of the photos in the album have no rating, some have 2, 3, 4, 5 stars.
If I select "Show all" everything becomes visible. If I select "* * * * or better" then my photos 4 stars or better show.
I have the same problem across all of my projects and albums.
I have found that if I add or change the ratings of photos, or import new photos that they are not affected by this problem.
It looks to be a problem with unrated photos not being recognised as photos without a rating.
Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? or do I need to restore my library from backup (rather not as my library is 100GB)
