ACR 5.6 Download Compatibility Confusing

I went in to get the update of ACR to 5.6 and the instructions s
aid.
The Camera Raw 5.6 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 6.0.
Then it said:
The latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in available for Photoshop Elements 6.0 (Windows) is Camera Raw 5.5.
So.  Am I supposed to update my PSE 6 to ACR 5.6 or not?
I do intend to upgrade to PSE 8 pretty soon and I did read that ACR 5.6 does update PSE 8's original ACR.
Thanks.

I see.  I have had similar problems in the past with PSE reporting BOTH versions in its filter
list, but that was because I had not renamed the old file and moved it.  I just moved it and Adobe tracked it down some
how and showed both versions as active at the same time.
I did learn that Lightroom's ACR is built in so there is no need to get the plug in unless we do have PSE (for our listeners here).
I did note that my new update to LR 2.6 that the flash screen that first comes up does not say anything about the ACR version like it used to.
You can only see which ACR is in LR 2.6 when you go into Help/About (for our listeners here).
I have not tried the ACR 5.6 plug in for my PSE 6 yet but I will have to for compatibility with LR.  I do intend to get PSE8 soon and maybe Premiere Elements so I can make slide shows to play on TV DVD players.  My wife got a free upgrade to Windows 7 and I understand that Windows Media Player can make a slideshow for the TV, but I don't know if it is the low quality (the unsatisfactory images) or whether it can make really good slideshows for my analog Sony TV as well as HDTV which two of my sons have.  If anyone does know about this, I sure would like to know which tools I must have or can get away with.  Per Barbara, I do have to check the software included with my PC to see if the DVD burner came with something.

Where can I find the ACR 8.3 download?

  • ACR 4.6 Download

Background: I have not upgrated my ACR for a while. I use CS3 and LR2 under XP. Unzipping this download gives me the DNG converter, no issues here -- and Camera Raw file Type=8BI. The unzip proceeded to give me an option to unzip a lot of profiles I already have so I skipped this.
I am looking for the normal install button or step? I executed Camera Raw 8BI file and it invoked my old CS2 version.
Question: So I am confused on how to upgrade to ACR 4.6? Sorry I can not be more specific and I normally do file with the downloads..

The instructions are very detailed and specific.
There's no installer, no Java script to invoke.
Read the instructions again. You need to do the installation yourself, manually.
Take the unzipped file, go the appropriate directory and replace the currently installed ACR plug-in with said newly downloaded and unzipped file.

  • Camera Raw.8bi in ACR 5.4 download

This folder contains the 64-bit edition of the Camera Raw plug-in, which is compatible only with the 64-bit edition of Photoshop CS4.)"
    I therefore downloaded:-
    cameraraw_5-4_rc_win_052109.zip
    from this link:-
    http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php?title=Camera_Raw_5.4
However when I examine "cameraraw_5-4_rc_win_052109.zip" it does not seem to contain "Camera Raw.8bi" unlike the last ACR update I used i.e. Camera_Raw_5_2.zip which does contain "Camera Raw.8bi"
How can I extract "Camera Raw.8bi" from "cameraraw_5-4_rc_win_052109.zip"?
    Any advice please?

    Wrong!
It's one and the same Camera Raw plug-in for Elements as it is for the full version of Photoshop.
Remember it's a Release Candidate (beta) version, so don't look for it on the regular Adobe.com downloads page.  It's at Adobe Labs (labs.adobe.com)

  • Is the 802.11n download compatable with my Mac Book Pro?

I have a Mac Book Pro with a core duo processor. I was wondering if I could purchas the $2.00 download and make my computer 802.11n compatable. I dont know if I need to get anything new, say a different airport card, or if I can just download the "new" software.

You'd need a new Airport card or ExpressCard for 802.11n. But if you just want it for Internet, don't bother, only for local file transfer, e.g. Time Capsule.

  • Will ACR 6.7 download work with CS5 Student and Teacher Edition?

I still have the student and teacher's edition of CS5 and LR3.  (Waiting for CS6 to take off the training wheels and get the grown up version.)  I've downloaded the trial of LR4.1 and ACR 6.7 in hopes that I can convert and import RAW files from a 5D Mark III, but so far I've met with nothing but frustration.  I think I'm doing everything else right so I suspect this is the issue, but if not I'll need to continue my troubleshooting to see where else in the process I'm fouling up.  Thanks.

  • Itunes download compatibility withwindows XP

When installing itunes to my dell inspiron 9300 laptop, it stops short and says that "the software you are installing for this hardware

    not be installed.
I cannot understand the logic or what it is trying to tell me, I am not installing hardware. Comments gratefully accepted

With that one, I'd start with solution 3 from the following document:
iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install
After you've got the GEAR drivers swapped out, try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Difficulties: Fresh Downloader but confused!

    Hello there folks of Adobe,
I just downloaded my package Adobe Creative Suite 6: Design Standard that works for Windows.  I have it all installed, I have my user up and going... But at the last part, saying it was completed, it said that I can download the applications that come with the CDs. Adobe Photoshop CS6, Adobe Illustrator CS6, Adobe InDesign CS6, and Adobe Acrobat X Pro with the additional components: Adobe Bridge CS6 and Adobe Media Encoder CS6.
I was so eager that I clicked out of the program before finding out how to get the applications into my current program... And I need help!
    1. Do I need to purchase these applications?
    2. If I do not need to purchase these applications, where do I go to retrieve them?
I am so eager to get started on working on my images so badly and to get in the world of Adobe Creations, but I really need help. I appreciate the time and patience for helping me and I do apologize.
    Sincerely,
    Nichelle Lewis

I am not quite sure what you are asking; do you have Bridge and Media Encoder in the Adobe Application Manager?
I also don't know why you are asking this in the Flash Player forum.

Where the heck is the download link - I want to open a Fuji XT-1 raw file

Well, the better question is for what program actually? If you use anything but CC or CS6 this simply won't work and inevitably this would also be the reason why checking for updates from within the program may not bring up anything...

  • [SOLVED] Enabling debug for ath9k in compat-drivers-patched from AUR

Wireless card: TP-LINK TL-WN951N. lspci says that it is an Atheros AR5416 adapter [AR5008].
Some background: I'm having the same issues as the OP in this thread, which references this bug report. The problem is that I get a 2000 ms ping every 30 seconds. So 2 seconds of inactivity every 30 seconds. I have the same wireless PCI card, as well. I need to fix this, because it's making online gaming impossible. I should also note that the card is working just fine in Windows 8, however. I am using net-auto-wireless. I have tried using wicd, enabling ath9k's nohwcrypt option, toggling the card's power save, installing the latest compat-drivers-patched from the AUR, toggling different settings in my motherboard's BIOS, and removing the antennae from the card. But nothing has made a significant difference.
I think I'm really close now. I just have to disable ANI. But in order to do that, it seems that I need to enable debugging for ath9k. But this means that I need to either recompile a custom kernel, or somehow enable debug for ath9k in compat-drivers-patched from the AUR. I'd prefer the latter, as that means that I will have a more bleeding-edge driver. That, and I won't have to touch the kernel as much. What I want is described on this page. But it seems too complicated to me. Please let me explain.
I've installed things from the AUR before, as mentioned above, and have properly configured my makepkg.conf for my system. So I'd like to use the CFLAGS and such that I've set. I don't understand how everything works in the PKGBUILD; I don't have much experience with sed and awk and regular expressions, and haven't done much shell scripting at all. It seems that at some point in the PKGBUILD, I need to enable debugging for ath9k before it is compiled. Apparently on the last page I linked to, I need to add:
    export CONFIG_ATH_DEBUG=y
    export CONFIG_ATH9K_DEBUG=y
    export CONFIG_ATH9K_DEBUGFS=y
to some config.mk file. I can only get access to the config.mk file after I install the package with pacman. I've tried adding those lines to my /etc/profile file, and checked, after a reboot, with "set", that those variables are indeed set. But the thing is, with these variables set in /etc/profile, when I run makepkg, makepkg fails with an error 2. I tried again and got the same error. I removed those lines from my /etc/profile, rebooted, tried makepkg again, and everything worked. So putting those lines in my /etc/profile is not the solution, and I feel like I'm doing something very stupid. What am I doing wrong?
I should also note that I've tried to read the wiki page on compiling a custom kernel using ABS, but it seems to just say "get your custom configuration files" and then just continue (so it assumes that I should already be familiar with the configuration part). The PKGBUILD and Creating Packages wiki pages also seem to be a little... too advanced for me at this point in time.
So how do I enable debugging for ath9k in compat-drivers-patched from the AUR? I'd prefer to stick with only editing the PKGBUILD and using makepkg, if possible.
I've really tried to search the web and the arch forums on how to fix this problem myself, but alas, it seems that I need help this time. I greatly appreciate your time for reading my long post.
    UPDATE:
I've made a lot of progress. I ended up removing the AUR package with pacman by invoking "pacman -Rsn compat-drivers-patched".
Instructions for [almost] success: First, download compat-drivers-patched from AUR. Then move it to the "builds" directory (or "local", if using ABS). Extract the tarball. After the new directory is created, cd into it. Now here's the important part: run
    $ makepkg -so
Then cd into src, cd into the directory inside src, then edit the config.mk file. Make sure these lines are uncommented (or created, if not already there):
    export CONFIG_CFG80211_DEBUGFS=y
    export CONFIG_MAC80211_DEBUGFS=y
    export CONFIG_ATH_DEBUG=y
    export CONFIG_ATH9K_DEBUG=y
    export CONFIG_ATH9K_DEBUGFS=y
    (source)
Now run "cd ../.." to go back up two directories. Now run:
    $ makepkg -e
    # pacman -U <file that was produced>
And I ran "mkinitcpio -p linux" just in case, but I'm not sure if that is necessary at all. I'm... not touching the kernel, right?
    Now I ran:
    echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/ieee80211/phy0/ath9k/disable_ani
But bash would say that the file or directory doesn't exist. Even if I prepend it with "sudo", I get the same results. I was only able to get the command to work if I logged in as root. I even put the line in my /etc/profile. The 2000 ms ping every 30 seconds is now GONE. HOWEVER! If I reboot and log in as a normal user, the problem is there again. If I reboot and log in as root, the problem is gone. If I then log out and then log back in as a normal user, the problem does not come back.
So really, I can avoid the problem if I first log in as root, log out, and then log back in as a normal user. But this is a great inconvenience. I would much prefer if I could just log in as a normal user right after boot, and have everything working.
Now, how do I get the command to automatically run at boot as root (without me having to log in as root), and work?
    UPDATE 2:
I got it working. Putting the line in /etc/profile is not the solution. I created a custom systemd .service file.
Put this into /etc/systemd/service (name it "disable_ani.service"):
EDIT: Wow. I made a glaring typo here. It should be /etc/systemd/system/disable_ani.service
    [Unit]
    Description=disable_ani
    [Service]
    Type=oneshot
    ExecStart=/bin/sh -c "echo 1 > /sys/kernel/debug/ieee80211/phy0/ath9k/disable_ani"
    [Install]
    WantedBy=multi-user.target
Then make sure to "sudo chmod 755 /etc/systemd/service/disable_ani.service", since root owns this file.
Then run "sudo systemctl enable disable_ani.service".
EDIT: It has been brought to my attention that there is a much simpler way than creating a custom service.
    Using a tmpfile:
    /etc/tmpfiles.d/disable_ani.conf
    w /sys/kernel/debug/ieee80211/phy0/ath9k/disable_ani - - - - 1
    Done.
Now ANI is persistently disabled between boots, even if I log in as a normal user right after boot.
    Thanks for reading.

So zsh is telling you that the command didn't work, since it claims that there is no such file or directory. I had a lot of trouble with getting the echo command to work, as well. I found that if out of these lines:
    export CONFIG_CFG80211_DEBUGFS=y
    export CONFIG_MAC80211_DEBUGFS=y
    export CONFIG_ATH_DEBUG=y
    export CONFIG_ATH9K_DEBUG=y
    export CONFIG_ATH9K_DEBUGFS=y
If the first and second line above were not uncommented in the config.mk file, I couldn't leave the last line above uncommented as well, or else makepkg would fail and give me an error. So originally I had only the 3rd and 4th lines above uncommented/inserted in my config.mk. With that configuration, I could not get the echo command to work, no matter what. Have you uncommented or inserted all of the above 5 lines into your config.mk?
After making sure all of the above 5 lines were in my config.mk, the echo command still didn't work, even if I preceded the command with sudo, or entered a su session. Bash would tell me that there was no such file or directory. I found that if I actually logged out of my normal user, and then logged back into the computer as root, the command would work. If your shell does not give you any feedback (particularly, "no such file or directory"), then the command worked. In order to get the command to run every time the computer boots, I used a systemd service, so that the command is issued as root. For some reason, it doesn't work if you put the command into /etc/profile.
Oh, and it would probably be helpful to mention that for the compat-drivers-patched package from the AUR, the PKGBUILD checks to see what your _selected_drivers variable is before compilation. If you set _selected_drivers=ath9k, your compile times will be much shorter.

  • PsE 8 Mac, ACR 5.7, no "Open Image" button in ACR?

A forum search was unproductive, so I apologize if this question has an obvious answer.
I've been a user of the full version of Photoshop for many years.  Now I find myself temporarily using PsElements 8 and ACR 5.7 on someone else's iMac.
After editing an image in ACR from Bridge CS4 (the one that comes with PsElements), I don't see an "Open Image" button in ACR.  How do I open the image in PsElements 8?
Puzzled.  Is this a sign that ACR is not installed properly?
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for your reply, Barbara.
I am fully familiar with the full version of ACR that comes with the real Photoshop.  That's what I use at home on my desktop machine.
It's the PsElements version that I know nothing about.
The last paragraph of your post may hold a clue, but there's more to the issue I'm seeing here.  As you well know, the Mac version does not come with the Organizer, but with Bridge CS4.  I followed the PsElements-specific instructions for the ACR 5.7 download, as follows:
To install with Adobe Photoshop Elements 8:
NOTE:  You must follow all of the new instructions in order to
successfully install the Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop Elements
    1. Exit Photoshop Elements and Adobe Bridge
    2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.dmg and follow the on-screen instructions.
    3. Navigate to the root of the local disk (not the user's home folder).
    4. Navigate to: (Please read directory carefully)
    Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 8/Plug-Ins/FileFormats/
    5. Copy the existing plug-in to another location (for example, a new
folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need
    to revert back.
    6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw, from the download into the same folder as in Step 4, and overwrite the exiting file.
    7. Launch Photoshop Elements or Adobe Bridge.
That works fine for PsE 8 but does not let Bridge see, preview or open RAW files.  I had to go ouside the instructions and put another, additional copy of the ACR plug-in either in ./ Library/ Application Support/ Adobe/ Plug-ins/ CS4/ File Formats/ Camera Raw.plugin or, alternatively, in ./ Applications/ Adobe Bridge CS4/ Plug-Ins/ , otherwise Bridge shows me only generic icons for the raw files.
    The
    Applications/Adobe Photoshop Elements 8/Plug-Ins/FileFormats/
location does work as advertised for PsE, regardless.
My guess is I should uninstall PsE and Bridge, re-install both and then update to ACR 5.7.
If that still doesn't work, I'll see if there is a PsE version 9 for the Mac.  The computer owner barely uses PsE as it is and does not want to mess with the full version of the real Photoshop.
Personally, I'll be happy to go back home on Monday and forget this ordeal with PsE.   :-/
With the above instructions—taken from the Download page—there is no way to see thumbnails and/or previews of raw file in the Bridge provided with PsE.  Adobe has definitely gone down the tubes—and I know you're not Adobe.
    Barbara B. wrote:
…Basically in bridge acr, you use the save button to save in the format of your choice and then open that file into PSE if you wish.
Wow! That is certainly NOT the case with ACR hosted by Bridge in the full version of the real Photoshop!
Thanks for the help.  Much obliged.

  • Compat-wireless

Ok, I was gonna try and update this seemingly simple AUR package and adopt it. I wanted to make it a daily snapshot for kernels >= 2.6.27. But it seems I am in over my head. First problem is I can't for the life of me figure out how this diff -u *.patch file I made won't work? Secondly even if I use makepkg -e with the modified Makefile I still get an error about permissions. So here is my updated PKGBUILD, and patch I created.

Well, I will ask one more time. Can anyone help me to explain why this PKGBUILD is giving me so much trouble? I would appreciate even the slightest bit of help, you don't have to use compat-wireless to offer PKGBUILD/makepkg advice. I apparently don't know enough about Makfiles to edit them correctly so the source will compile. So if you know anything about Makefile don't hesitate to point out my errors.
This is my modified Makefile, you can grab the original from the source. What is so wrong?

  • Unable to access BCM 2010 DB with Outlook 2010 after running compatibility pack for Outlook 2013

After reading about the Description of Business Contact Manager compatibility pack for Outlook at this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2793723 it clearly states "Business Contact Manager for Microsoft Outlook is a compatibility pack that enables
Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2007 and Business Contact Manager for Outlook 2010 to run in Microsoft Outlook 2010 and Microsoft Outlook 2013. Business Contact Manager for Outlook (BCM) also supports using Outlook 2010 and Outlook 2013 in a side-by-side
installation."  This link also states "General product fixes, including stability and performance improvements."
So, I was hoping for some stability and performance improvements but desired to continue running from Outlook 2010.  After running this downloaded compatibility pack it had little messages other than completed. If I try to run it again it says the database
is already updated.  however, now I cannot open the BCM DB in Outlook 2010.  when I try to connect to it from Outlook 2010 BCM it only opens a small window with no message, only a yellow exclamation sign.  It also won't allow me to restore the
    back up.
Can I undo what the compatibility pack program did to my BCM 2010 DB?
Now it won't allow me to restore a DB from two days ago. It gives this error "Access is denied due to a password failure. RESTORE FILELIST is terminating prematurely".  I know the password is correct.
Please help, anyone? Now I'm starting to freak out a bit.  I am going to reinstall BCM and pray.
I was able to restore the two day old DB by not entering a password. Odd since I know I backed up using a password.
