ACR 5.6 Problem

I have just loaded ACR 5.6 RC so I can use it with the 7D its is showing all thumbnails underexposed by around 1.5-2 stops, when I open them in camera Raw they are still underexposed untill I press the Auto switch then show correctly but with an exsposer increase of between 1.5-2 stops.
Is anyone else having this problem If I didn't have DPP open as a comparison I would have trashed all these files.

Hello!
How are they in DPP? how is their exposure in that program?
Do you remember how the files opened in ACR 5.5?

  • ACR 6.1 problem: presets are resetting settings

    Hi all,
First post in these forums.  I've been using ACR for years and have been using Photoshop CS5 for a few weeks with no problems.  I've now installed ACR 6.1...
Here's the problem that is driving me nuts: when I apply a preset to an image, ALL settings are affected, even if the preset only includes information on one setting.  The settings that are NOT specified in the preset XMP file are basically zeroed - not even to my default setting, but to 'factory defaults'.
For example, I have a preset that only sets Split Toning. When I apply it, the split toning gets set and all other ACR settings not specified in the preset are reset - exposure, noise reduction, vignetting etc... everything EXCEPT local adjustments.
I have even checked the contents of the preset XMP files to make sure they only contain the relevant settings and they all look good to me.  Here's the contents of the above preset:

    Hi,
I couldn't see any Adobe related process in the task manager. I tried
to open PS and from there activated Updates. The app manager was
launched which I also could see in the task manager. After closing the
app manager and PS no Adobe task was running.
I tried to logout and login in again but the problem remained. Finally
I rebooted OS X and after that I successfully was able to update to
    ACR 6.1.
I also tried to run AdobePatchInstaller with PS open. In that case AAM
displayed a message that PS was open and had to be closed i.e. a
totally expected behaviour compared to the previous error message I
    got before reboot.

  • ACR Blacks slider problem?

    Hi
When i use the "Blacks" slider in ACR the darkest parts of the image "block up" and look very noisy. Unlike setting the black point or creating shadow clipping with the levels tool in PS, which gives a smooth effect, the black slider in camera raw seems to make the shadows crunchy and often with red pixels around the black ones.
I use both PS5 and PS6 and on both programs i have the same "problem". I also have used ACR 6.2, 6.7, 7.0 and 7.2. All with the same effect.
Up to ACR 7.0 the blacks slider had a range of 0-100 with the default being 5, and from 7.0 onward the slider can be set to either a plus or minus figure. In either version the default value often makes my shadows look pretty awful on screen. My question is - is this normal? In every book i read it says the blacks slider can be used ruthlessly to sett he black point but if i do that it creates a pretty blocked up result compared to the Levels black slider in PS.
I shoot with a Canon EOS 5d mk2 and the RAW files appear to have quite noisy shadows when compared to the out of camera Jpegs which have silky smooth ones. Not sure if that is part of the problem?

You have several issues swirling around...first off, the old Blacks slider in Process Version 2003/2010 is completely different than Process Version 2012. Yes, any Blacks moves in the earlier process versions tended to really clamp the Blacks...that is now considerably different in the new PV 2012.
So, which do you want to learn how to use?
The Blacks slider of PV 2012 is prolly the last slider you want to use in the tone controls in the Basic panel. If you use it too early, you are not taking an optimal approach to tone mapping. There are plenty of tutorial (Adobe TV) to learn how to use the PV 2012 adjustments...if you learn how to use PV 2012, I suspect your clamped Blacks issue will go away.
As far as the noise in the shadows, the camera JPGs get a dose of noise reduction in-camera. In ACR/LR, luminance noise reduction is set to zero (no luminance noise reduction at all). This would explain why your JPGs seem smoother than the default rendering in ACR/LR. I suggest learning how to adjust the luminance noise reduction in ACR/LR to optimize the noise in your raw captures. Some decent tutorials out there for that too...

I have tried all the other avenues before I got here and am only asking for help here because I could not find it myself. I am linked to Adobe update manager and I did not get a message about closing photoshop because it was closed before I did the download as was Bridge which also will not let me open my .NEF files.

  • ACR to CS6 problem

After adjusting a Raw image in ACR and clicking'Open', the display switches to Photoshop CS6 and shortly after a box appears indicating percent download. As the box indicates completion, it switches off and a new box appears.
This says that CS6 has encountered aroblem and must close, and that Windows will search for an answer and let me know if an answer is found. To date nothing and the problem continues.I have switched to jpeg exposure for the time being, only testing Raw on a daily basis. Any advice is welcomed.

    Good day!

  • Camera Raw won't open certain JPG files from Bridge, others open in ACR with no problem.

Edit: This was orignally posted in the Photoshop > Macintosh forum, which I failed to realize was read only. Thanks to a PM headsup, I'm reposting it here. Thanks
I've searched the internet and the Adobe forums and cannot find a direct answer to what I'm dealing with.
The issue I am having is that Bridge CS5 (current version 4.0.5.11) will open some JPG images in Raw with no problem and others nothing happens at all. All the images come from the same source (Fujifilm Frontier SP2000) so I really don't understand why Bridge ignores some of them as being openable in RAW. For example, say this roll of film has 36 images. If I "Select All", right click, and select "Open in Camera Raw", it will open whichever it deems acceptable in RAW and nothing happens at all to the others (The RAW dialog will, for instance, only open 10 images instead of all 36, and the remaining images are not altered in any way).
I've made sure that Photoshop is prefering Adobe Camera Raw with Supported Raw Files and in Camera Raw Preferences I have the box ticked to Automatically open JPGs with Settings but nothing helps.
My work around is to one file at a time in the Photoshop Open dialog, selecting an affected JPG file and have it open them as Camera Raw instead of Jpeg.
Any ideas? It's done this for quite a while and I have no idea how to fix it.
    Thanks.

  • ACR 5.0 Problem

I cannot access any tools except hand tool. Short cuts or clicking produce no results. Local brush tool dialog opens but no brush appears. Likewise with gradient tool.
    Would appreciate any help.

I resolved this issue. I have a Nvidia 9800GTX+, I went into the Control Panel, in Manage 3D Settings/Program Settings, I found Nvidia has added a CS4 Program heading. The settings had defaulted to the Global Settings. I adjusted them to match my LR2 settings, bang, all works correctly now.
Thanks Jeff. Looking forward to your new book on ACR 5.0.

  • Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists

Have CS 5 Installed on my iMac and works ok. But installed on my new MacBook Pro it won't open NEF files from my Nikon D810. Displays NEF icons, but when I try and open them the response is: Make sure latest RAW updates are installed. If problem persists follow link: http://www.adobe.com/go/kb407111. Have installed Bridge 5.0.2.4; Raw Ref Version 7.0.0.308; DNG converter_8_7_1.dmg; Bridge 5.0.2 Update 2. Also same problem with Lightroom which I don't normally use. Lightroom_3_LS11_mac_3_6.dmg installed.

In the link you posted it states that the Nikon 810 requires ACR 8.6 or newer.
Version of ACR are specific to versions of Photoshop. You cannot use 8.6 nor even 7.0.in CS5.
I believe that ACR 6.7 is the latest that will work with CS5, so make sure you have this installed and get rid of ACR 7.
Having 2 versions of ACR will cause problems.
You have already downloaded DNG Converter 8.7.1.
Have you double clicked the DMG file to allow you to install DNG Converter on your computer?
Be aware that DNG converter is a stand-along application and not a plug-in.
You need to open DNG converter at select the FOLDER that contain your .NEF files.
Don't open the folder and try to select individual files, it doesn't work that way.
After converting your D810 files to DNGs you can then open the DNGs in CS5
The problem is your camera didn't exist when CS5 & its version of ACR was developed.
i don't use Lightroom, but the list mentions Lightroom 5.6 as needed to open D819 so your 3.6 version of LR won't cut it.

  • Bridge Preview Images not showing changes made in ACR

Suddenly my raw (Nef) files in Bridge are not reflecting the changes I make to them. In other words after downloading from my CF card, I work on raw files in ACR either one at a time or sometimes applying changes across several pictures. The changed files show up in Bridge briefly and then revert back to the unchanged looking raw. All changes actually exist because if I open the file in ACR or PS they appear just fine. In Bridge however, no changes including cropping, etc. show up. When I open Bridge the files are fine for a moment and then they revert to the uncorrected raws. I can also go to View and hit "refresh" and they will all show the proper changes for an instant and then revert to the original state again.
I've tried resetting preferences, purging and rebuilding cache, deleting temp files, removing and re-doing xmp files, expanding cache size and all the various rendering options in Prefs. Nothing works.
I cannot use the Bridge Light box or Preview function to compare photos because the corrections I made aren't there to be seen. The only way to see them is to open each file one at a time in ACR. This problem has forced my workflow to a crawl as I have to edit one pic at a time without being able to compare two together. Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi All:
I had similar problems plus constant crashes that made Bridge unusable.
It drove me to try alternatives to bridge and to try Lightroom. I like
Lightroom better than bridge but it has an operational limit that leads me
to be reluctant switch. But here is the rub, now Bridge is working
perfectly! What I think fixed Bridge is running a disk/registry cleaner
called Ccleaner multiple times. I ran it almost every day for a week. It
found lots of stuff in my registry that it didnt like but as time went by
it found less and less. It also let me turn on or off services that run at
startup. I shut off anything that I could see that I didnt need, like
Adobe downloader; I dont need automatic downloading, as I can do it
myself. The result is at some point Bridge started to work again. It has
stayed working for more than 2 weeks now without one crash. I dont know
what was fixed that did the trick but so far Im happy. Ccleaner is a
free program and can be found at http://www.ccleaner.com/. Its a live
program as there have been several updates since I started using it. Try
it; I think it worked for me.
    John Passaneau
    PS
After Bridge started to work again, I had to purge the cache and rebuild
it. I use cache distributed to folders as I keep my photos on a network
attached drive and access them from 2 computers and a local cache will not
    work for me.

  • Problem loading JPEGs from network drive?

    Hi,
I'm having a rather frustrating problem with Bridge\Lightroom 2 which I think is due to ACR 4.5, and I'm hoping someone here may be able to offer some advice:
When opening (in bridge) or importing (in Lightroom) a network share containing JPEG images the majority of the previews\thumbnails are corrupted.
This screenshot illustrates the problem in bridge (http://www.amirkamal.com/acrbug.jpg). As you can see the thumbnails are corrupt as is the preview, however the magnifier tool on the preview window shows the /true/ image. The irfanview window, in the lower right corner, shows what the image should look like, demonstrating that the JPEG itself is not corrupt.
If I were to import this directory into Lightroom the same problem is present, although the form of the actual image corruption (or even the number of images corrupted) may be different. It also persists through to the develop module as well, making lightroom completely unusable.
If I disable the 'Prefer Adobe Camera Raw for JPEG and TIFF files' option in Bridge then previews are rendered correctly, which is what leads me to believe that ACR is the problem and not Bridge or Lightroom. This would be an acceptable work around for Bridge, but obviously isn't possible for Lightroom.
Also, if I copy the JPEGS locally and then import\view them the problem does not occur. The seems only to affect JPEGs: TIFF and Raw (Canon 350d .CR2) files do not show this problem.
It almost seems as if ACR is trying to process the JPEGs before they have been completely loaded, and thus ends up rendering garbage.
Has anyone else seen this problem before, or have any idea how to fix it?
My system specs are below incase they offer any clues,
    thanks
    ak
    Local machine:
    Adobe Bridge CS3 2.1.1.9
    Adobe PhotoShop Camera Raw 4.5.0.175
    Windows XP 32bit SP2
    Intel Pentium 4 D @ 3.3GHz
    2Gb RAM
nVidia 7950GT with latest (175.19) drivers
    Images stored on:
    Windows Server 2k3 R2
    Intel Celeron D @ 3Ghz
    1Gb RAM
    RAID 5 Array
    Connected over a 100mbps network

I have never worked on image files which are located remotely in a network ... but I noticed a higher probability of problems occurring when working with Bridge on external hard disk drives connected via USB 2.0. So I acquired the habit of copying the folder of images I plan to work on to an internal hard disk drive and do the work there. When I'm done then I'll copy the whole folder (or at least the modified files therein) back to where it came from.

  • Import Settings or Viewing Problem

I have just imported some pictures from my Canon Powershot G15 and I seem to have a problem with my settings.  This is a new issue for me.  I have also just imported shots taken on my Canon 5D MkII without any problem.  The G15 shots seem to have had a 'tilt' applied, which has created white areas.  These were not on the original shots when viewed in the Import module, nor are they visible in the the file when viewed using Microsoft picture viewer so it must be a setting LR is applying.
The only Import setting I am using is Copyright, although I did start with a lens correction in the Develop Settings but removed it for some test shots.
My attached image shows the two screens I use with LR5 on the left and Windows viewer on the right.  You can see the white area in the shot on the left, which is absent from the same shot viewed in Windows.  Both are RAW files.
This is a new problem and I'd appreciate any help
    Scott

Update - I have just opened the image from LR5 into Photoshop CC and the problem persists, i.e. it opens with the same areas but they are transparent in PS.  I tried opening direct from explorer into ACR and same problem.  LR and PS are 'seeing' something in these files that make them open with distortion.

  • Strange red shadows in backit portrait in ACR - but ok in ViewNX

I've recently been processng NEFs from a D300 using ACR without any problems. Until...
The following photo has some very wierd red shadows when imported using ACR5.5. But when viewed using the Nikon ViewNX 1.4.0 they look perfectly ok. I've also tried using ACR4.x (the one distributed with PE6) and it's just the same as 5.5. The whole batch of photos taken using this lighting setup show the problem. I was using a Dlte2 on minimum power behind the subject pointing toward the camera and reflectors on the sides. The camera is using the AdobeRGB space.
    http://cpalmer.me.uk/public/20090918-_KTP6886.NEF
The problem is most visible under her chin to the right of her hand, and on the hair just up and to the right of there.
I'd really appreciate any insights as to why it appears so "badly" in ACR but looks fine in viewNX and in-camera. And how I might proceed with processing these...
    Many thanks
    Chris

Your shadows are clipping at ACR default of 5. Dragging the black slider to zero should fix the problem.

  • Bug ACR 7.2 adjustment brush previews

I realize this is a redundant post - I want to make sure someone at Adobe notices.   Adjustment brush previews are turning off when you hover the cursor over the edit pin, and stay off until off until you hover cursor over another pin.  Neil Carboni took the time to make screen shots that show the problem. See previous post and my Windows 7 x64 specs at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1083526?tstart=0
The Adjustment brush previews work as expected so long the Show Mask option is checked AND one of the of the Adjustment Brush pins is selected; so one mask is always showing.
For example, when a previously edited image is first re-opened in ACR, no brush pins are selected (Show Mask can be checked). If I hover my cursor over one of the pins (for example I have 6 brush adjustments) the mask flashes on for the associated edit, as expected. When I move the cursor away, the edit preview disappears as if the edit never happened, but the pin remains. I then select one of the pins by clicking on it to make that edit live. Now when I move my cursor over a pin the mask for that pin flashes on, when I move the cursor away from that pin the preview of the edit is showing. Now the preview works for any brush edit.
Makes working with multiple adjustment brushes extremely difficult - not always sure if the results of a previous edit are showing. Have to constantly move my cursor and hover it over another brush pin to verify that I am seeing results of previous edit. If the preview is not showing, as soon as I put down the brush on that edit, the preview springs to life. I do not see this problem using ACR 7.1 on my Vista x64 machine.
As my previous post indicates, I have updated the driver on my FirePro V4900, uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop, etc.  Did not see the problem after I reinstalled Photoshop and briefly used ACR 7.  Problem came back once I updated.

Well, for one, the current version of ACR is 8.3 by now.
More information would be needed about your system before troubleshooting steps can be suggested.

  • Raw files loose camera setting in ACR

    Hi everyone,
I have been shooting raw (nikon d80). I used to open my raw images with acr without any problem. But lately the acr wont read my camera settings.
I opened my raw file in window viewfinder and it has my camera settings just ACR seems to strip them.
How can I fix the ACR?
    thank you

Which "camera settings" are you referring to?  CR will read the "as shot" white balance setting from the camera, but nothing else (e.g., Picture Control, sharpening, etc.).

  • ACR modifications not reflected in bridge

    Hello,
Off and on my ACR changes are not being reflected in the bridge content thumbnails nor the preview.  It is currently happening all the time (year change?) but it was happening sporadically previous to this (sorry, not very helpful information).  I open the RAW file in ACR by double-clicking on the thumbnail in bridge, change the various settings, click on done or edit further in PS.  When I go back to bridge none of the ACR modifications are there.  If I re-open the file in ACR the changes are still there.  I have cleaned-out the cache and the dates on the xmp file are later than the ones on the CR2 file.

Thanks in advance for you help.

Reference for anyone else having the same problem ...  I updated to the latest version of PS, Bridge and ACR and the problem seems to be resolved.  It may be because of the updated files or it may be because some settings were changed back to the way they used to be.
