ACR 6.5 for elements 9

I have tried to install acr 6.5 from the "updates" button in Elements 9 but I get a message saying the server failed to connect. I have tried turning off my firewalls and repeat but I get the same error message. Next I went down the manual path and tried to download acr 6.5 from adobe website. After clicking on download file I eventually just get a Windows file screen with two yellow folders called "Meta-INF" and "Payload" and a third file called "adobepatchinstaller" but there are no instructions on what to do next? Can you help me please on why my "updates" request in elements 9 doesn't work and how I can get acr 6.5 installed on my elements 9 screen (what does this button look like). Many thanks.

I just installed Premier Elements 12 and yesterday and up popped the update for ACR8.3. Never knew Premier Elements used ACR
The payload for ACR 8.3 for Elements was about 50 MB smaller than the payload for ACR8.3 for Photoshop - so they may not be the same? But for the dickens of me I cannot figure out how ACR is used by Premier Elements other than being able to import a RAW file - There is no adjustment panel for correcting white balance, exposure etc etc. So is it just used to import RAW files?
Anyone have any ideas as to how ACR is used in Premier Elements?

Having trouble finding and downloading ACR for Elements 9

ACR is only updated for a particular version of Elements until the new version of Elements comes out. A new version of Elements comes out in the Aug-Oct timeframe of each year. PSE 11 came out in the fall of 2012 so PSE 10 came out in the fall of 2011. Look for the last version of ACR that came out before PSE 10 came out. You can find the various versions of ACR for your computer’s OS by going to http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ and choosing Camera Raw – your-computer-platorm at the top. On the camera-raw versions page that comes up click on the links for a late-summer/early-fall 2011 version of ACR. In my estimation this could be either 6.5 or 6.4 depending on whether PSE 9 was replaced by PSE 10 before or after 9/28/2011 when ACR 6.5 came out. The way to check is that once you’ve clicked over to the download page for a particular version of ACR, there are two more links on that page, one for PSE and one for PRE and click the PSE one to see what version of Elements that version of ACR is for. Check this until the version of PSE is higher than the one you have and then one back one version.

I have a new Nikon D7000 and find that I cannot open the NEF files in Elements 6. I have downloaded the Camera Raw 6.3 for Elements but the installation fails and says the the application is wrong for my "product". Help with this would be much appreciated. Thanks, John.

Nah, forget it. Different versions for ACR are specific to different versions of the programs. You need to upgrade to PSE 10/11. Refer to these charts:

Canon 5D MKIII - Camera Raw for Elements ?

Does anyone know when the Camera Raw plug in that supports the Canon 5D Mark III in Photoshop Elements 10 will be available ? I know release candidate 6.7 is available but only works with Photoshop CS5 - not sure why Adobe chooses to not make it available for Elements ? I also know that I can use the DNG converter to convert my 5D MKIII images to DNG format and then work in Camera Raw. However, this is a beta DNG converter and I have found that my converted images are slightly overexposed (about half a stop) and have more noise. Does anyone else have this problem ?
The real question is - when will the Camera Raw plug that supports the Canon 5D Mark III in for Photoshop Elements 10 will be available ? You pay a price for being an early adopter and this has seriously disrupted my workflow. I have a hard disk full of RAW images to work on - please help !!!!

Adobe does not pre-announce software releases, mostly so they can change their mind up until the last minute, I think.
It’s also not the situation where Adobe needs to talk to Canon to decide when to release the next version of ACR. Adobe releases ACR on a relatively fixed schedule, so whatever new cameras have come out that Adobe has had the resources to profile with enough lead time to work out any bugs, will be in the next version of ACR when it is released on the internally-predetermined schedule.
Adobe reverse-engineers their needed information after having a camera in hand, not from discussions with the manufacturer, necessarily. Sometimes Adobe gets a camera from the manufacturer long before it is available to the public, and I would expect an important camera like the 5D.3 might have been one of those, but that just makes it easier to get the camera into the next scheduled ACR, it does not make the ACR update come out any faster.
Adobe also has a CS6 suite to work on and test so they’re not merely working on putting cameras into ACR 6.7 or ACR 7 for use with PSE10.

Elements 10 is too old for this new camera. It can't be updated to the ACR 8.5 version, you would need PSE12 or 13.

I downloaded and installed the DNG converter for Elements 6, but I still cannot open RAW files from my D300. I double checked to make sure the plug-in supported files from the D300. I have restarted my computer and Elements, but still no luck. What else could I be overlooking?

According to the Adobe Apps list, ACR 8.3 only works with PSE12:

So either upgrade your PSE to 12, or use the DNG Converter 8.3 or 8.4, to convert the NEFs to DNGs that PSE11 can read. The DNG Converter can be found, here:

How to download RAW plugin for Elements 7

I used to be able to edit RAW files without much trouble but now I can`t . I understand that some plug in is now required but I don`t understand this or how to do it.

Don't think so. Simply consider uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Newer versions of ACR are irrelevant to your version of PSE. ACR 6.6 requires elements 10, ACR 5.x PSE 8/9 at least. Anyway, if it worked before, it seems all you need is there. Should you refer to having bought a new camera, then that's another matter. Based on what I wrote, upgrading then would be inevitable to obtain support for newer camera models.

ACR 5.4 and Elements

I wonder why we users of Elements are being treated as second class citizens and are not allowed the pre-release use of ACR 5.4? I find that the Olympus software supplied with my new DSLR is usable, but only just, and I want to get back to the convenience of RAW within Elements. I do wonder when ACR 5.4 will be released for us proles. Does anyone know?

You really only need to copy the .8bi file into the right place to get Elements to work, but the RC executable only runs if CS4 is installed. It seems like Labs could have easily supplied a .ZIP of just the .8bi file for Elements users, but they didn't.
If you're really wanted to get to the RC .8bi file, then you could theoretically download and install the trial version of CS4 Extended and then run the ACR RC updater on that--which would hopefully work, and then find the .8bi file and copy it over to the proper Elements folder. Of course then you have to worry about getting Photoshop, itself, off your system, completely, and it might be best to also reinstall PSE, again, just so the file-associations would be pointing to it, in case PS stole some of them. Or if you have a friend that has Photoshop CS4 installed, have them install the ACR RC and copy the file from them.
