ACR 8.1 beta Crop/Workflow Options change is inconvenient

I generally leave the ACR Workflow Options resolution set to default, and in the past have set the crop tool to a smaller pixel resolution, such as 1024x768.  I could then either run the image straight thru to Photoshop at full resolution, or apply a crop and save directly from ACR for proof/email lower resolution versions.
However it appears that in 8.1 the crop tool no longer has a pixel setting, now I have to set the resolution in the workflow options in order to save out a proof/email image.  If I want to run the full resolution image thru to Photoshop I have to click on the Workflow Options link and disable the resolution setting.  So I can't switch back and forth without changing workflow options, which requires more clicks, and is easy to forget; Is there a way to save multiple workflow options settings and select among them?  Such has been requested for a long time, but apparently is still not available.

Added by edit - the new item in the Workflow Options is a Resize to Fit section, which can be enabled/disabled with a check box.  Is there a shortcut key to toggle, something quicker than going thru the link at the bottom?

I'm in the process of going through 1100+ images from a recent vacation, selecting and re-sizing for transfer to an iPad.  Actually the new arrangement is working out ok, I'm adjusting and cropping on the originals, then going back and doing a multiple save out at the desired resolution.  Most of my images are un-cropped, so this new configuration saves a lot of full frame cropping.
As long as I remember to disable the resize before moving images to Photoshop all is ok, even preferable.  Sorry I complained, nothing like using a tool to understand the pros and cons.

  • Workflow Options Changed in ACR

I noticed that the Workflow Options window in ACR has changed slightly so that it looks more like Export in Lightroom.  When did this happen? Is there a way to toggle between the old and new windows for Workflow Options.  I noticed that this change is not on all computers with the newest version of CS6.  Some have the old window and some the new one.

I'm moving this post from this forum for photoshop-dot-com (an online portal) to the correct forum for Photoshop pro users like yourselves.

  • Smart Object - How do I keep ACR from changing workflow options?

Open image in Photoshop as a Smart Object from Lightroom.
Double-click to change the RAW characteristics.
When I return to Photoshop, my image has been changed...  Color space is changed, bit depth is changed, size is changed........
I believe I know WHAT is doing it - the Workflow Options in ACR are set.  HOW DO I TURN THEM OFF?
I can't find a reset, and I can't get it to stop messing with the image.  I've SPECIFICALLY UNCLICKED the "Resize to Fit", but
it STILL takes my 2600x3300 pixel image and returns it as 1824x2321 pixels.......
Where and how do I reset this thing?

I ABSOLUTELY agree......  That's exactly, I believe, how it's SUPPOSED to work.
    Except that mine didn't.
    I opened a 12.2 MP RAW file.
And made absolutely no changes to the workflow uptions at the time of opening.
But instead of "Image Sizing" saying "Default 12.2 MP", it said "3.6MP"
    Resize was turned OFF
Width was 2321 px and height was 1824 px, BOTH GRAYED OUT.
Upon leaving ACR, I had a 2321x1824 file.
Eventually, after wasting another hour screwing around with it, I finally blew away all of Bridge AND the preferences and all that,
and rebooted since the %$#)(*& Adobe CC thing wouldn't figure out there was no more Bridge, and resintalled...........
Now, when I open a file in there, at LEAST it knows it's 12.2MP.
It STILL wants to change the Space to sRGB, which I NEVER use from here, and the Depth to 8-bit, which again, I never use in ACR,
but I can set those back to what they should be...
So, in this case, by using a large enough bludgeon, I appear to have gotten around the problem.  Now I'm just waiting to see how soon it screws up again.

  • How Reset Workflow options in ACR?

I looked up workflow, but didn't find any discussions, and I can find items online that tell me how to SET workflow, but so far, I can't find anything that tells me how to RESET workflow.......
I don't want it to do ANYTHING.  I don't want it to set Adobe RGB or bit depth, or resize or ANYTHING.  I want it to leave whatever I open exactly the way it came in.  When I press "Open Image",
I want it to go to Photoshop exactly the way it came in to ACR...  Currently, if I open a jpg that was exported in sRGB, when it gets to Photoshop, it's 16 bit and Adobe RGB because that's what the
    workflow says.....
So, how do I make workflow completely go away and not screw with anything in my image?

Let me see if I can explain this better.
I don't want it to open as a jpg or anything.  I JUST want to know how to RESET the workflow settings so it doesn't change ANYTHING in whatever I open......
Here's an example...  At some point, for some reason, I open a raw file in ACR, and go into the workflow and set the color space to sRGB, the bit depth to 8 bits
and the resize to 200%.  When I hit "Open Image", my raw file will now open in photoshop as an sRGB, 8-bit file that's been resized to 200%.  Fine, since for
no good reason that's what I told ACR to do.
Close Everything........  months later, I open another RAW file in ACR and it gets stuck with THOSE SAME SETTINGS because they automatically become the
default.  I don't WANT to use those settings, so HOW do I reset the workflow so it doesn't set ANYTHING?
OR, I open a raw file in ACR, and set the color space to Prophoto and the bit depth to 16 bits.  Fine...  But, next I need to make a MINOR modification to a jpeg I've
created from PS (or Lightroom or right from the camera).  Its in Bridge so I open it.  It goes into ACR.  And gets set to Prophoto and 16 bits and whatever other thing
I previously set in workflow.  I don't know or care what the original color space of the jpeg was, and I don't WANT to know or care.  I just want to open it in PS exactly as it
is WITHOUT workflow making any changes.......
In reality, this isn't a big problem on a daily basis for me, although it is annoying.  But, I got a phone call from a semi-panicked photographer who couldn't understand WHY
her 16x20 kept showing up as a 12x16 when she reopened it in PS.  What was happening was that she cropped and resized in Photoshop with a resolution of 240 ppi.  Then
saved the jpeg.  Which came up as a 16x20.  EXCEPT, when she reopened it, it opened in ACR, where she had SOMETIME set the resolution to 300 ppi.  The pixel count
was exactly the same, but when she did the "open image", in Photoshop it was now 12 x 16 @ 300 ppi instead of 16x20 @240.
So, HOW do I reset the workflow so whatever settings had been put in, get cleared and it doesn't change ANYTHING?

"You totally lost me there, and I have no clue as to what your last question means."
"I think I now know what you mean."
Evidently language is of difficulty for you.
Perhaps the Oxford dictionary can provide you with your much needed “sensible, meaningful” content.
According to the Oxford dictionary, a dialogue is to "Take part in a conversation or discussion to resolve a problem."  It also states that a dialogue is "A discussion between two or more people or groups, especially one directed toward exploration of a particular subject or resolution of a problem.”
That IS the inherent nature of posts. A conversation is reciprocation.  Questions, followed by more questions.
It is not difficult to understand.
"how to ask your questions correctly for quicker and better answers" is best actualized by simply asking.
Is it a Mac; is it not, etc.
That IS sufficient.  That IS "quicker and better answers[ing]."  That IS what a dialogue IS.   And that IS actually what is "sensible," "meaningful," and "detailed."
The Oxford dictionary can best delineate and elucidate your lack of comprehension in what ACTUALLY “meaning” is.
As well as what is "sensible" AND "detailed."
By the way, am I being repetitive.
Still confused.  Let the experts that do not require much explanation respond with "quicker and better answers" for both "sensible, complete" responses." They are not "lost," "blind," or provide "incomplete" drivel.

In Camera Raw? The Workflow options are now responsible for actual image size. See Julianne Kost's blog post. (There's a video that discusses this in detail at the beginning there as well.)

  • Workflow Options

I'm a long time PS user but have always used Capture One for RAW conversion. I'm now trying to learn ACR 5.0 which looks to have developed into a pretty cool RAW converter with some great features. My question is - how can I save Workflow Options as defaults? I want sRGB, 16bit and 300ppi as opposed to the default RGB, 8bit, 240ppi. It seems that each time I exit ACR the Workflow Options revert to the defaults. Thanks in advance for what I'm sure will be a simple answer.
    Ed

Thanks for the fast response Ramon!
Maybe things have changed or it's a glitch in the new software, but the Workflow Options are not sticky in 5.0. I have a feeling that will change with some near-future updates.
I pre-purchased CS4 about two weeks ago and downloaded the new software early this morning. PS will take a little getting used since some things have changed locations, but I'm very excited with some of the new features. Like I mentioned before - I'm a newbie to ACR so the entire program is a learning experience.
Thanks again for your response and I'll just "wait and see" what happens in the next few weeks with upgrades to resolve the non-sticky Workflow Options.

  • ACR 6.1 Beta first impressions

Adding lens corrections to ACR really revolutionize the digital workflow.  For me, 99% of my travel photography processing will end in ACR, without having to pass through Photoshop.  Photoshop remains for the 'Spacials', where you need layers, etc.  It was said that ACR started as a Photoshop plug-in. It's getting to the point that Photoshop will be a plug-in of ACR.
Version 6.1 works well, with two minor issues:
There are no grid lines (at least I couldn't find them).  For perspective corrections, grid lines are helpful.  Workaround I used are the crop boundaries, but that's not very convenient.
The only camera I have, currently in the camera/lenses database is the Canon G10.  ACR doen't find it automatically (under the preview window it does say 'Canon Power Shot G10'). I must select 'Make: Canon', then the Model and Profile come up correctly.
I hope these issues will be solved in the release version, and the camera/lenses database will grow to include my assortment of Olympus gear.
    Moshe

ACR doesn't find it automatically (under the preview window it does say 'Canon Power Shot G10'). I must select 'Make: Canon', then the Model and Profile come up correctly.
    It does work for me.
You can easily correct this misbehaviour yourself:
Click the lens correction check box
Select Auto from the Setup list
Select the correct Make, Model and Profile, if not yet selected automatically
Click Save New Camera Raw defaults from the fly-out menu.
The next time you load a G10 image, corrections will be applied automatically.

  • InDesign CS3 - placing PDFs and the Crop To option

Hey, y'all. Still an old-schooler using InDesign CS3 (meanwhile, the person in the adjacent cubicle gets CS4, and she's not primarily in production or art...how is this fair?) Anywho, here's my dilemma...
We receive PDF ads from our clients and we ask that they stick to a page size of 8.125 x 10.75 cropped, with an additional .25" of bleed on each edge (for a total of 8.625 x 11.25). Often, the client sends us an AI file or PDF with the artboard set to the crop area. No matter how I set the "Crop To" in the Place PDF window, it never extends past the Illustrator Artboard, so I can't get the bleed.
So, apart from opening up the PDF/AI in Illustrator and changing the artboard to our bleed dimensions (8.625x11.25), is there anything I can do? I was thinking that I could change the "Crop To" settings in InDesign? Or, is there a way I can change my bleed settings within Illustrator?

Thanks for the tip, Luke. If it's PDFs, I can usually overcome it, as the other Crop To options (bleed, media, artboard, crop) can sometimes get me the full artboard, although different clients send me different stuff, so that's handy to know.
AI files...well, until I can upgrade to CS4...

  • Sharpen in "workflow options" and "Detail" tab

how does the sharpen within workflow options relate to the sharpening applied within the detail pane?
Does one override the other or would the sharpening be additive?
    thanks.

    >I probably would never use the workflow settings, especially since they are not well defined settings, and I assume for "general" office work...
In my opinion, the workflow options for output sharpening in ACR are rather awkward to use. One advantage of parametric editing is that the edits are stored in the ACR database or in the XMP file in a compact form without the necessity of large and possibly multilayered TIFF files. After making the required edits, one has repurposable masterfile that can be used for derivative images.
However, when one uses the ACR output sharpening, the dimensions of the image and the resolution must be determined in advance. One then has an output file that is suitable only for printing that specific image, and repurposibility is lost.
Furthermore, the output sharpening in ACR requires the setting of the resolution in pixels per inch. When printing to a relatively large output size, one usually renders the image at the native resolution of the camera and then sets the image dimensions of the picture without resampling. In the ACR workflow one must manually calculate the needed output resolution from the intended output size in inches and the native resolution of the camera in pixels.
For example, if one is using a Nikon D3 camera with a resolution of 2832 x 4256 pixels and wants to print on super B paper with a short axis dimension 12.5 inches, it is necessary to predetermine the required resolution in pixels per inch by dividing 2832 by 12.5 to obtain the needed resolution of 227 pixels per inch. One enters this value in the ACR dialog box.The result is an image that is suitable only for printing at that size.
Personally, I would prefer to use ACR to make a repurposable masterfile which can later be resized and output sharpened as necessary. Currently, I use PKSharpener for this purpose.
It would be nice to be able to store several possible output options in the XMP file or database, and this is currently not possible. For example, one might want to store settings for 8 by 10 or 11 x 14 inch prints.

  • Synchronizing workflow options?

I frequently open multiple images at a time in ACR. I had thought that selecting all images and then setting workflow options would set the selected workflow options for all of the images, but it doesn't.
The synchronize option allows you to select any of the image quality/color setting to sync, but not the workflow options.
If you have a bunch of images in the filmstrip view in ACR , do you have to go through each one at a time to select the workflow options? Is there a way to assign them all at once?
    Thanks,
    Joe.

I am using ACR 3.7 on windows. There are two different camera models involved in the images I have in ACR. Could that cause the workflow options to only work on a one-to-one basis rather than on the entire selection?
ACR does not seem to be setting workflow options by camera model as the difference in output results varied even within camera models. However, I guess it could be that the presence of two camera models within the selection could force the need to select workflow options individually for each image.

  • Text Caption Timing Options Changing after an Edit

I am trying to highlight a matrix in four seperate slides. I
made my text caption box and highlight box on one slide and copied
and pasted for the next three. When I went in to edit the text in
the 3 copied captions, the timing options changed on me. For
example, on one I set the timing to 10 seconds and when I tested I
realized it was showing for only about 3. I have no idea why this
changed. I found an old post from someone and the suggestion was to
uncheck some "calculate timing" box. I am using Captivate 3 and
have found no such box to uncheck. Any help would be wonderful!
    Thanks,
    Kim

Hi Kim and welcome to our community
Click the Project menu and see if you have a check mark
beside the option "Calculate Caption Timing". I'm guessing you do.
DE-select it and the timing should be left alone.
    Cheers... Rick

  • ACR 7.1 Beta & Photoshop CS6 Lens Profiles

If I open a Nikon RAW (NEF) file in ACR 7.1 Beta it correctly finds my Camera and Lens Combination Nikon D3 with the Nikon 24-70m f2,8 with the Adobe Lens Profile. However, when I leave ACR and the image is open in Photoshop, go to Filter, Lens Correction it does not automatically detect the correct camera and lens combination.
It shows the Camera Make as NIKON CORPORATION, but the Camera Model and Lens Model are not detected and I am asked to choose. In the Lens Profiles I see two choices, one for a Nikon D3x with the correct lens, the other for a generic Nikon Camera with a Sigma 24-70 F2.8.
I would have thought the detection process would have been the same?
    MK

I was just curious and hunting around ACR 7.1 and Photoshop trying our the features. Also I have found that LR4 RC2 has follows ACR 7.1 as far as lens profiles go working with RAW images, so there is some consistency.
Wonder what the difference is between a RAW rendered image in ACR versus a Photoshop rendered image. Given, I could be wrong here, that Lens Correction is based on the optics of the lens, focal length, and the characteristics of the sensor, so would they not be the same in ACR and Photoshop?
I think I need to go check out a lens profiler
    Cheers
    Mike
There is one reason that I may go back into the Lens Correction Filter and that might be to fine tune some of the persective tools. With a large panorama much easier to see what needs to be done rather than view seperate images, and i have done that in the past. did not come to me until after I had hit the Send Button

  • MM02 - Enable options change number, change overview and change documents

I am with the following problem: I enter the transaction MM02, I enter the material 1000765, I select the view "Classification". Later I access the environment option from the menu bar and options for change number, change overwiew and change documents are disabled.
How do I enable these options change number, change overview and change documents?
    Regards,
    Sérgio Salomã

    Hi Sergio,
If we activate the change documents for classification data, then we will be able to see the CHANGE DOCUMENTS for characteristic values through CL20N transaction (CL20N via menu ENVIRONMENT --> Change Documents) or MM02.
For reference please check SAP Note 65124.
For enabling change documents for classification data in SPRO --> Cross-Application Components --> Classification System --> Classes --> Maintain Object Types and Class Types.
In this enter into MARA table entry. Inside that corresponding to the respective CLASS TYPE (say 001) enable the CHANGE DOCS check box in Classifications part (For enabling this please check SAP Note 65124). Then for this CLASS TYPE (say 001) inside the OBJECTS folder, enable the CHANGE DOCS CLASS checkbox also.
Now in MM02 and in CL20N under menu Environment --> Change Documents you can view all the changes done to that characteristic values.
Once the change documents is activated, then we can get the change documents details in CDHDR and CDPOS tables. The OBJECTCLAS may be "CLASSIFY". We can also use the "CLLA_CHANGE_DOC_CLASSIFICATION" function module to fetch the data from these tables.
Hope this helps in solving your issue.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Harish kumar.

  • Trigger workflow after change of control record(pa03)

    Hi Experts,
Is it possible to trigger a workflow after change of the control record - transaction pa03?
    Thanks,
    Agata
Edited by: Agata Nowak on Sep 14, 2009 12:43 PM

    Hi,
    Thanks for replay but:
    1. just so the event or action in PA03 , on which you want to trriger WF ,Before that with TCOde swels switch ON , then afer the action in SWEL , you wil find if any BO and event is there for that action . if so , then using this you can trriger you WF. if not
I've already tried this and no event is triggered ;(.
    then
    2. you can go for user exit , badi or enhancement spots (verson ECC.6.0 above). in that using SWE_EVENT_CREATE creat the event to start yr WF.
I've been already searching for BADI or user exit but I really can not find any user exit nor badi for this transaction (in fact it is SAPMP52X Program) ;-((
    Thanks,
