ACR - Bug with embeded color matrix?

In version 4.4 (Windows platform) I noticed a bug that is still present in 4.5. Version 4.3 worked ok.
Description: I converted a cr2 file from Canon 400D to a dng. Than I modified color matrices in dng with my own program, because I wasn't satisfied with ACR's calibration (red color tends towards orange - quite different than result from Canon's DPP)
In ACR 4.3, calibration tab, I got 3 options: embeded, 4.3 and 3.6. In ACR 4.4 and 4.5, there's no option Embeded, just 2 times 4.4 and 3.6. So first option should be named Embeded
Don't know whether there is the same problem with cameras that already record raw files in dng format, or tere is a problem only in very rare case like mine (because I suppose nobody else would try something similar)
Thanks for comments

Eric, Thomas,
thanks for answering. I read the documentation in the meantime.
As an explanation, this was only an experiment, I noticed this and thought it could be some bug, so I reported it. As I understand, implementing of DNG 1.2 started already in previous version odf ACR and introduction of ProfileName tag caused change of its behaviour
I did this because I had a small program for changing matrices in DNG that I written before, for use with dng-s from Canon Powershot compacts. As you maybe know, there is a software available on the internet (CHDK), that enables raw in those compacts, which can be converted to dng by another program (DNG4PS). Of course, ACR doesn't have matrices for these cameras and matrices written in those dng-s (mostly taken from Coffin's dcraw) are quite off (position of primary colors and white balance), so I sorted it myself for my A620. As I wasn't satisfied with colors in red range, produced by ACR from my 400D raws, I tried the same thing on raws from 400D (instead of using sliders in calibration tab)
After introduction of color profiles, this won't be necesarry anyway, as I see reds are much better now (that is also stated in Profile Editor FAQ)
with regards,
Alex

  • Export to Quicktime bug with embedded movies

    Hi
I'm having an annoying problem when having Quicktime movies inserted in slides, then recording a slideshow and exporting it to Quicktime. I do the following:
    1) Create a new slideshow
    1) Insert movie into first slide
    2) Create another slide
    3) Insert copy and paste movie into this slide as well and add some animated object (i.e. a shape with a motion path)
    4) Record slideshow so that the animated object appears while the movie still plays
    5) Export recorded slideshow to Quicktime
*What happens when viewing the recorded slideshow:* Start of the presentation. The movie on the first slide starts playing immediately without clicking. *1st CLICK*. Second slide shows up. The movie on the second slide starts playing without clicking as well. *2nd CLICK.* The animated object is triggered, the movie and the animation play simultaneously.
*What happens when viewing the exported movie:* The exported movie seems to ignore some of the recorded settings. Slideshow starts, the movie doesn't play. *1st CLICK.* The movie starts playing (when actually it was supposed to advance from slide 1 to slide 2). *2nd CLICK.* The presentation advanced from slide 1 to slide 2.
It seems as if the export does not interpret all the settings the same way the direct presentation does, which is quite annoying as you don't get the same result in the exported movie you see on the screen.
Workaround: Go to the "QuickTime inspector" button in the inspector window, select the movie, check the option "Start movie on click". Then, go to the "Build inspector", hit the "More Options" button. The movie object now appears in the list. Select it and select "Automatically after transition" in the lower "Start build" part of the inspector. This way, the movie will start playing also in the exported movie.
Still there is another problem now.
*What happens now when viewing the exported movie with workaround:* Slideshow starts, the plays. *1st CLICK.* The presentation advanced from slide 1 to slide 2. The movie on the second slide starts playing without clicking as well! YAY! *2nd CLICK.* The animated object is triggered, the animation plays but the movie stops as soon as the animation is triggered.
So, instead of playing animation and movie simultaneously as in the normal recorded slideshow on screen, in the exported movie, the movie stops the moment the animation is triggered.
It seems as if the "Play Slideshow" and "Export to Quicktime" have different timelines, or different parameters the two modes evaluate.
This happened in iWork '08 and also happens in iWork '09. It's quite annoying. For me it's clearly a bug that should be fixed and is worth fixing. Please Apple, fix this bug.
I also noticed a tremendous amount of crashes while using the export to Quicktime function. While I was trying Keynote in iWork '09 I exported several times to Quicktime and had several crashes just by using this function.

    Hi all.
I do exactly have the same problem since Keynote 4.0 and was hoping that it's solved in Keynote 5.0.
As soon as I try to export a previously recorded slideshow, (that has a quicktime-movie embeded on one slide) and one or two little textanimations on it. The embeded movie stops playing when the first animation starts in the exported quicktimemovie. When I view my recorded presentation, everything looks fine.
I do also believe, that the Quicktime-Export-Function does not work correctly because of timeline differences or so.
I would really appreciate a fix, specially becaused I upgraded in the hope that this should have been solved since around 10 months now....
    Too bad.
P.S. As a workaround I am currently using also screenflow to record a recorded keynotepresentation to finally receive a movie. But that is kind of awkward too....

  • Ordering Prints Online with Embedded Color Profiles

Problem: I have imported about 100 photos into iPhoto (7.1.1) that have embedded ProPhoto RGB profiles. When Ordering Prints (from Apple/Kodak) online, the prints delivered were horribly desaturated. After research, discovered that the ProPhoto RGB (which is really high-end professional color space, even bigger than Adobe RGB) is not compatible with sRGB printing services. Essentially, sRGB is a much smaller color space and color is lost in process. What's the best way to resolve this?

    Ruzicka:
There's an AppleScript to embed the color profile of your choice in selected files. I've modified it to embed the sRGB profile it's available at Toad's Cellar. It's the Applescript version, not the automator version. The automator version adds some jpeg compression in it's process. The script method does not.
Or, you could use Photoshop and create an action to batch convert the files to the sRGB profile. I've used PS but not the batch process. GraphicConverter may be be able to convert them but I've not used it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Bug with embedded youtube videos?

hi, I've done a fair amount of searching around and haven't
    found any solutions.
What happens is when I browse to a page with an embedded
youtube video, I get the 'A script in this movie is causing Adobe
Flash Player 9 to run slowly.'. I get the same error with either FF
2.0.0.13 or IE 7.0.5730.11, using Flash 9.0.124.0. Naturally
everything in the browser grinds to a complete halt.
The weird thing is this only happens if I scroll down the web
page to where the video actually is embedded. Otherwise everything
    works fine.
Using other Flash applications, watching Youtube, and so on
    are fine as well.
    I'm on Windows XP SP2.
This only started happening in the last week or so.
    Any ideas?

  • Has anyone seen this bug with embedded images?

If I embed a wide image in this post and you click on it to zoom it up, is it centered in the safari window or center WRT the monitor?  Basically can you see all of it?

It looks like this, here. It's done that for a long time, unless Safari extensions are switched off, regardless of there being any installed.

  • Aperture 3 embedded color profile bug still unsolved (worked in Ap 2)

RE: Aperture 3.x cannot display images with certain color profiles embedded. This bug was reported
on March 11, but is still unsolved and basically makes Aperture 3 unusable for my large collection
of scanned slides which have a special color profile embedded. Viewer and sometimes Browser turns
    either black or go haywire.
    What is it about:
When you scan slides with a scanner, you can generate a special color profile so that the image
looks good and you can then embed this profile in the scanned tiff and jpeg images. Most pro applications honor the embedded profile and display the image correctly. In our case, we
generated a special profile named Nikon-LS5000 (it was tested for correctness!):
    1) It worked fine in Aperture 2.x
    2) It never worked in Aperture 3.x
    3) It does not depend on the Operating System (i.e, the bug manifests itself in 10.6.2, 10.6.3 and now in 10.6.4)
    4) It is no question of a special Mac Model (the bug shows on iMacs, ibook profs, and iMacs 2010)
    5) It is irrelevant whether you start Aperture 3 in 32-bit or 64-bit mode
    6) It shows with jpegs or tiffs, no matter
    7) Preview.app or Photoshop CS4 display the images correctly!
    8) If one changes the embedded profile via PS CS4 to sRGB or ProPhoto, Aperture 3 works (but the
image then has radically different colors - so no solution!)
    9) The conclusion is that something affecting the processing of (some?) embedded color profiles has radically changed from Aperture 2 to Aperture 3.
I put a few jpegs with embedded color profiles and screenshots of how Aperture 3 behaves on the Picasa web:
    http://picasaweb.google.com/114939413495021552399/TestapertureBilder#
you are invited to download the jpeg- images and retry in your ownAperture 3 Library.
Maybe together we can find out what causes this bug which is very annoying for any
    serious photographer.

I have put the test material on another server - you can download a
zipped folder (Aperture3profilebug.zip) of all test images AND the color profile from
    https://depot.uni-konstanz.de/get/txau69
with any browser. (The problem was that the Picasa Software seems to strip the color profiles from
the test images, so I had to put them on another server. It will remain there until July 1).
    Regards and thanks for helping

  • Edit With - Photoshop color shift

When using Edit With -> Photoshop with my 12 and 14-bit NEF files, the resulting file (after editing in PS) has a color shift. Same happens when I export a Version as 16-bit TIFF or PSD and then re-import it into Aperture.
I have tried it with 8-bit JPGs from camera, and the shift does not occur. Has anyone come across this problem and have a remedy? Your help would be greatly appreciated guys, thanks!

Ah, thanks for the tip. I've changed my Photoshop color settings to warn me when opening files with embedded color profiles. I simply choose to work in the embedded profile and upon saving and returning to Aperture, no longer notice any color shift. Thanks again!

  • How to fill column value of a matrix with specific color when there is no value in that specific cell?

    Hi All,
I need to create a 5/5  matrix in SSRS report. The data will be :
    Col_Side   Col_Header   Col_data
    1                  1                1
    1                  1                 1
    1                  2                1
    1                  5                1
    1                  5                1
    1                  5                1
    2                  3                1
    2                  5                1
    3                  1                2
    3                  1                2
    3                  1                2
    4                   2               1
    4                   4               1
    5                   1               1
    5                   1               1
    5                   5               1
So, the matrix column will be Col_Header and matrix row will be Col_Side and count(Col_data) will be on the data.
Finally, it will create a 5 by 5 matrix with Count(Col_data) as its data for each combinations. If there is no combination (for ex: in the above data we do not have no combination of (1,3) , (1,4) , (2,1) etc..) then the matrix will be filling that corresponding
    cell with zero.
Here I need to fill the cells with some colors based on some criteria.
I need to fill (5,3), (5,4), (5,5) combination with "Red" color.  Like this , I need to give different colors in each of the cells. Here, (5,5) combination will be having 1 in its cell.  (5,4) and (5,3) will be having zero in its corresponding
cells. I 'm trying to fill all the 3 cells with "Red" color. But, I am able to fill only (5,5) with "Red" color. Since the other 2 cells (5,3) and (5,4), has zero in their cells, it will not fill the cells with "Red" color.
How can I fill those two cells (5,3) and (5,4) with red color?
I know this is very vague. I have no option to give the picture here..
    Please suggest

    Hi Julie,
According to your description, there is a 5/5 matrix with three fields: Col_Side, Col_Header, Col_data. You drag Col_Side field to Rows, Col_Header to Columns and Col_data to Data, then filling blank cells with zero using expression. Now you want to fill
(5,3), (5,4), (5,5) cells with red color using expression, but it has no effect on cells (5,3) and (5,4).
According to my test, the expression has on effect on cells (5,3) and (5,4) since there is no corresponding data and the cells are blank. As a workaround, we can insert data for cells (5,3) and (5,4) in dataset, then use expression by following steps:
In the dataset, insert two sets of data (5,3,0), (5,4,0).
Right-click the cell of data, click Text Box Properties.
Click Fill in left pane, click (fx) button, then type the expression like below, then click OK.
    =iif(Fields!Col_Side.Value=5 and Fields!Col_Header.Value >=3 ,"red","white" )
The following screenshot is for your reference:
If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
    Thanks,

    Just one more advice:
Look at the format of the "image" array. The way how to use the values from this array depends on the "image depth" parameter.
In your case, because the image is 8bit, you need to use the "colors" array containing the real RGB value.
Look at the Help for the "Read BMP File VI", you should be able to properly handle your pixels from there.
thanks for pointing that out for me, so I connect the 'totalpix' array with the 'colors' array from the image data instead of the 'image' array, that's correct right?

  • PS CC 2014 stopped to respect the setting to preserve embedded color profile, why?

My normal workspace is Prophoto RGB. I, however, has a large number of tiff files (dias'es scanned with a Nikon scanner) with the color space sRGB. Up till recently I had no problems - all the files kept their embedded color profile when opened in PS. I Even have the  checkbox that tell PS to ask if there  is a mismatch checked on. PS does not ask used to do so). This has happened after my last update of PS from PS CC to PS CC 2014. I have deinstalled Ligthroom to see if synchronization migth cause this. That did not help.
    Please help.
    Birgitte

Sorry, I do not hope that I have got something fundamentally wrong. I hope not! Otherwise  please correct me!
All my own files start out as Nefs and are from Bridge brougth through ACR and on in PS as Prophoto RGB 16 bit files.
Since I also work with files that are not my own Raw files as the scanned Tiffs (scans of my 50 years old slides  - scanned by somebody else on a  Nikon Super Coolscan 9000 ED), Tiffs from other people or even JPEGs, I have set PS to preserve embedded color spaces and to alert me if there isn't a match between my workspace (the Prophoto RGB) and an allready embedded color space. This because I did not think it advisable to change to Prophoto RGB from Adobe RGB orsRGB as the extra colors in Prophoto RGB never were present in the Adobe RGB or sRGB files and therefore could not be "conjured" up. I, however, got the impression that 16 bit would still be an advantage when editing.
I like to start any one-layered file in ACR before entering it into PS and do not want to change that. Up till now PS nicely warned me of color space mismatches but not with these scanned files. So my present worry is if the color space of the files from the Nikon scan may be changed from a smaller to a larger space (which would not be a good idea, or?) when going into PS.  I speak only of files that enter PS from ACR with  ACR workflow settings of Prophoto RGB 16 bit and with the color settings of PS as described above.
As I wrote earlier today, I am beginning to think that these files do not have a color space assigned until they get into my software but I do not know enough of the Nikon Scanner to be sure. If so everything is OK and PS functions perfectly.
As written above Bridge shows the scanned Tiffs  to have the Nikon sRGB 4.0.0.3001 as color profile but below in Camera Data (Exif) it says "Exif color Space: Uncalibrated".
Does anybody know if these files in realty does have an embedded color Space before entering the software outside of the scanner?
I hope my English is understandable! Please forgive the 73 year old grandmother if she has got it all wrong!

  • Quartz bug with movies with alpha - workarounds?

    Hello, I've found an odd glitch in Quartz Composer, and would like some help working around it;
I created a movie with alpha (32-bit PNG to .mov, PNG, millions+ via QuickTime 7. Tested and it exported correctly) and loaded this using a Movie Importer patch (with Colour Correction disabled). Sending this directly to a billboard, the alpha is there, but way off in value (seems to be shifted to range ~0.5-1.0 instead of 0.0-1.0, but 0 is still 0)
While trying to fix this, I found that putting a pixel-editing patch between the importer and the billboard makes the problem (almost) go away (doesn't work with a resizing patch, but Color Controls and Color Matrix, with all values at default, work), which says to me that this is a bug rather than my misunderstanding. But it still doesn't render correctly - seems to be from ~0.1-1.0, possibly with gamma too.
Is there something I missed (maybe a disable colour correction option somewhere?) or a workaround somebody knows?

    HI Gary,
You may have to reset keyboard shortcuts for different applications. Not an unusual thing to happen after an upgrade.
Go here for help. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=QuickTime+Player/7.0/en/kbshortcuts .html
BTW... could you please click My Settings on the right side of this page and tell us which Mac you have and add 10.6 to your profile. It will help us to help you in the future. Thanks!

  • Impossible to get ACR showing the same colors as in Bridge

    Hello,
Usually my .NEF files (shot with a D90) appears with quite soft colors and contrast in Bridge. However, since yesterday, as soon as I use the magnifier (in the filmstrip mode) or open a .NEF file with ACR, the colors are warming up. I must have done something wrong and changed some settings, but I can't find what it is. Even if I leave the white balance on "as shot", and try all the camera profiles available (ACR 4.6, Adobe Standard, Camera D2X mode1, 2, 3, Camera Neutral,...), I can't get ACR showing the same colors as my preview in Bridge. I also tried the "reset camera raw defaults" function, didn't help either.
I guess that if I have the same problem when I use the magnifier in Bridge without opening the file in ACR, it is because ACR still takes action to load the full image, isn't it?
    Thanks for your help,
    Sam

Thanks for your answer. I'll reply point by point.
My monitors are calibrated, and I did it recently. But this is not the problem here since I can see the colors changing live on the monitor when I activate the magnifier: I click somewhere on the image with the magnifier, it takes a few seconds to load the 100% section of the image and then the colors are changing on the whole image (not only the enlarged section). Similarly, when I open the image in ACR, I can still simultaneously see the Bridge version of the image on the same monitor and they have different colors. So this shouldn't be a monitor problem.
My color settings in Photoshop (Edit>Color settings) are set on sRGB IEC61966-2.1 and set on "preserve embedded profiles". But I don't get that point, does the color setting in PS affect the colors in Brigde and ACR when PS is not open?
Bridge preferences: What would be useful to know, there are many preferences?! Here are a few that might be of some help: Cache: all unchecked; Advanced: all unchecked; Output: "convert multi-byte..." and "preserve embedded color profile" are checked
ACR preferences: all unchecked except "apply auto grayscale mix when converting to grayscale"
I didn't know how Bridge and ACR were working. But I don't understand what could have changed over the couple of days since before that, the pictures open in ACR (or zoomed in in Bridge) did look exactly the same as the preview. If none of PS, ACR or Bridge are set to apply some color corrections, where do they get this information from?
Sorry, I forgot to give the details about the softwares. I'm using CS4 (PS 11.0.2, Bridge 3.0.0.464, ACR: 5.7.0.213) on a MacOS 10.5.8.
I didn't know how to trash the Bridge preferences, so I did it and... that worked! Colors are not changing anymore. But what could it have been, how is this resetting different from the "reset camera raw defaults" function for example?
Thanks for your input, it did solve my problem. I still don't understand the few things described above though, so if you have a few minutes, it would be great if you could explain them to me.

  • Eyedropper issue with text color (CS6 / Win7)

    Hello there,
I'm dealing with many bugs with my CS6 (same as my colleagues), but all of them are already here, so no need to create new topics. But this one is kind of new to me and I didn't find it here.
Problem is picking-up a color for text from various objects (even other text) holding shift. In previous version holding shift with eyedropper took your desired color without any other attributes and put it in stroke / fill depending on what you've active. But now it doesn't work. It just show me the selected color in color selection, but it won't apply to my text.To avoid picking new attributes from other text, I've to save desired color, select my text I want to have in this color and apply .. And this is not the way I want to work with my illustrator
Maybe I forgot to set something in options, but I don't know where. Would be glad for any help

It's been discussed already here and appears to be a bug.

  • Blocking bug with 10.8.3+Adobe Lightroom+Canon iPF5000 (but workaround found)

    Hi all,
since I have updated my MacBook Pro (early 2011 model) with 10.8.3, I have a blocking bug with Adobe Lightroom (either 4.3 or 4.4) for launching prints on my Canon iPF5000 (firmware 1.33, either MacOS driver 2.67 or 3.06, connection through USB).
When I was under 10.8.2 with the Canon's driver 3.06, everything works fine.
Basically, after clicking Print a Copy or Print... in Lightroom, the file spooled to the driver stays in MacOS printer queue. Within the printer queue window, the printer is in pause mode, and each time I try to resume the printing processing, the driver put it on hold immediately. When I look into the history on the Console, the driver complains about an unknown error... The data stay within the driver, as my Canon iPF5000 "Data" led indicator stays unlit.
My print settings are 600dpi or 300dpi, print sharpening Standard/Glossy, 16 bit output. And Color managed by printer (because I let the Canon driver managing my B&W prints).
Strangely enough, when I launch a print from Preview application, the drivers does its job and sends it successfully to my Canon iPF5000...
As this was driving me crazy, I have tried a clean install of MacOS 10.8.3 (as 10.8.2 is no more available from Apple servers...). No success, same blocking issue.
Eventually, I've found the workaround: using the imagePROGRAF Advanced Preview. You have to click on "Print..." in Lightroom in order to see the driver settings window, and then check the "Preview before printing" option in the main tab of the driver settings. Then I can preview my Lightroom printing work and then launch successfully my printing.
Simple workaround, but very strange bug...
For me, the root cause could be multiple and not very obvious.
Is it Mac OS 10.8.3 ? But why can I make prints from Preview application for instance, and not from LR ?
Is it the Canon driver ? But this lead me to the same question.
Is it Lightroom ? Does it send corrupted data that make the driver crazy but not the imagePROGRAF Advanced Preview ?
So, if any user of Canon iPF5000 + Mac OS 10.8 + Lightroom is around, please share your experience.
And if any Apple, Adobe or Canon engineer read this, please try to fix this.
    Happy printing,
    Amaury

It's different how applications write print data. If you use Advanced Preview from the driver then it calculates already the output which afterwards is only sent to the printer.
Have you once tried to print with fast graphic process switched off (option of advanced settings)?
    Hope it helps

I'm using the latest version of Adobe products:
    - Adobe Flash Player ActiveX, Version 9.0.124.0
    - Adobe Flash Player Plugin, Version 9.0.115.0
    - Adobe Reader 9, Version 9.0.0
Also, I downloaded [CR Viewer 2008|http://www.businessobjects.com/product/catalog/crystalreports_viewer/] and can see the CR reports I've created with embedded Xcelsius swfs.
    Any information is appreciated. Thanks.

    True. It says:
    > Exporting and printing of Flash objects with connections to Crystal Reports data is not supported.
But I can export such reports to html and view and print the flash objects.
It seems inconsistent to me. I can export static flash charts to pdf, yet I cannot export dynamic flash charts to pdf, which is from Adobe, as is Flash?
I'm hoping this is a temporary bug either in Crystal or pdf reader and is to be fixed in a patch release. Or an explanation of why the limitations exist.
    Thanks for the response.
