ACR Delete bug? Converted files deleted with originals!

Open ACR with a set of raw files.
Convert and saw in the same location.
Mark some/all of the originals for deletion.
Click Done.
Both the originals and the converted files are deleted. And contrary to the delete function mouse over description, they are not moved to the trash but deleted completely!
This is not nice behavior.

Hi Thomas,
I just did an experiment. I copied some raw files to a new directory on an external hard drive.
Opened them in ACR.
Converted/saved.
Waited for the save queue to complete.
Confirmed the jpgs were created in explorer.
Marked the still selected RAW files for deletion.
Clicked done.
About half of the JPGs are deleted, this time to the recycle bin.
I tried with different number of files, and couldn't determine the pattern of which were deleted.
If after converting I exit ACR. Then reopen and select the RAWs for deletion, the JPGs are not touched.
So, more data, but not much more sense. ACR is deleting just-converted JPG's, but not all of them, when it deletes the RAWs. If you work from a CF card, either ACR or XP is deleting not moving to the recycle bin.

itunes is copying/converting 500gb of music from .wma to .m4a files that are on an external drive onto my laptop which doesnt have enough room. how do i reroute these newly converted files somewhere with enough space for them?
new to itunes, used windows media player before that and always ripped music directly to an external hardrive and accessed it through the player. now that i downloaded itunes it is taking from the external hardrive and copying a second file for each song onto my lap top hard drive which does not have the capacity for all my music. as itunes converts music files i want them saved back onto my external drive or another location i have space for rather than the lap top. how do i change the setting to move the itunes media folder to another location. assuming that hitting copy and past and dropping it in a random location will cause a few errors.

When I have done this, all I did was network the two machines and copy the contents of the iTunes folder to the other machine, and that's it.
My understanding (which may not be 100% correct) is that the one file that is absolutely necessary is iTunes Library, and that the XML file is actually a copy auto-generated from the iTunes Library, appearing in a different format only for non-iTunes apps that take advantage of the iTunes Library data.
As far as I know, if you simply have the Library (database) file and all your original music files, iTunes on that computer should operate as it did on your old computer. I believe that the Album Artwork, Genius Data, and XML files can be regenerated from the Library file. Not sure about the Extras file.

  • Why can't I delete simple photo files even with admin access?

I'm cleaning my Time Capsule HD deleting some photo files. Most of them were just moved to trash, but when I try to move a specific folder, the OS asks my password saying that Finder wants to make changes. After typing in my password I receive a message that I don't have permission to access some of the items. It dosn't make any sense since I, same account tring to delete them, have copied these files into that folder.
    I really appreciate any support.
    Thaks and regards,
    Alex

Are you trying to delete files from your Time Machine backup?  Don't do that!! If you have files/photos you wish to delete then delete them from iPhoto or whatever photo application you are using. They will be removed from the backup by the TimeMachine backup system. Your backup is not a simple file it is a time/event dependent organizational picture of your system sort of like a multilayered transparent collage, but if you start pulling random pieces out it will collapse the file system. • Convert files and remove originals from library?

Ive only been using iTunes for a bit now but I think Ive got it figured out but one thing I cant seem to work out is if there is a way to get iTunes to remove the original file after it has converted it to an iPod format.
So far I have to do this:
    -Import Files
    -Convert Files
-Then go through and delete original files form the library
Is there a way to set it to 'remove original after conversion' or only 'add to the library after conversion'? Any ideas of how I can get this to work or not would be greatly appreciated.

Nope. No way to automatically remove the original file.
You'll have to manually do this.
You can create a Playlist of songs to convert, then go back to the Playlist and mass delete those originals (Shift-Delete).

  • How could I delete the physical files associated with songs that iTunes has matched to iCloud Match?

I would like to make room on my external drive.
I need to be able to delete the songs that are matched in iTunes.
Using the delete right-click option does remove the entry form the itunes Directory but NOT the physical files.
I have my iTunes Library manually managed.
I cannot recognized from the Folder which files are linked to songs that are matched and which ones are not.
    Any help will be welcomed.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
If you are unable to remember your password, security questions, don’t have access to your rescue address or are unable to reset your password for whatever reason, your only option is to contact AppleCare(or Apple ID Support), upon speaking to an operator you should explain that your problem is related to your Apple ID, this way you will not be charged for assistance, even if you don’t have an AppleCare plan.

  • Is there a way to convert files incompatible with Apple OS to some format that will be viewable in Finder?

I do a lot of machine embroidery. In moving from a PC to Mac, I've learned that none of my current embroidery software is compaitible with Apple OS. I'm happy to maintain those programs on a Windows laptop, but would really like to be able to view my designs on the Mac Mini. The files are *.pes. Is there any way to convert them to a Mac compatible format?

  • Will Quicktime Pro convert files compatible with Mac and Windows?

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrate to Pro 7.
I created a screen capture tutorial in Snaps Pro X which outputs a .mov file. Now I need to convert it to a cross platform version. Is that MPEG? I see that QT Pro 7 exports to MPEG-4. Is that compatible with at least XP?
Also can I do screen capture videos right in QT Pro 7?
    Thanks,
    Steven

QuickTime Pro can't capture your screen.
Your SnapZ Pro .mov file should be compatible (depending the your choice of codecs) with any machine that has QuickTime installed.

  • Trouble converting files created with 9.2 using 5.0 version.

I have multiple pcs using 5.0.1 version of acrobat without any problem.  Recently bought new pc with 9.2 installed.  Problem is when I create with new version, older versions can't open.  Error message says file corrupted.  I tried downloading all upgrades for older version.  Is there a solution without upgrading all other pc's with newer version?

I'm using Acrobat distiller from my 9.2 version normally converting a word document into PDF.  I haven't really changed any settings from original installation, but I'm afraid I must have some settings that are preventing those with the 5.0 version from opening.

  • Workflow- iTunes Convert to AAC, copy to ipod & delete converted files

I like to save my music in either Apple Lossless or MP3 (320kb) formats. Unfortunately, when I go to save these onto my ipod mini the files are too large and take up too much space. Id like to try and mimic the software that comes with an ipod shuffle where it can take any file, compress it and copy it to my ipod mini without creating duplicates in my itunes.
Can anyone offer some advice on how to create a workflow to do the following:
    1. Get selected itunes songs (any kind)
    2. Convert to AAC
    3. Copy to ipod
4 Delete the converted files in itunes
Ive looked at some of the automator actions and im a bit confused with the difference of
    - delete original selected tracks -OR-
-delete files of the original selected tracks
that are options with the "convert tracks" or "copy tracks to ipod" actions

For the record, these 3rd party actions are not part of a default Automator installation. They're available for download here.
Now, you could think of iTunes as basically a very fancy collection of aliases. When you delete a tack in iTunes, it asks if you want to move the files to the trash, or keep them in your music folder. If you select "Keep Files" what you end up with is a bunch of orphans: files that physically exist in your music folder, but are no longer accessible through the iTunes interface. You have, in effect, deleted the alias without deleting the file.
And that, as far as I can tell, is the reasoning behind the two seemingly redundant check boxes in these actions.

  • Firefox does not delete the .part file from my download folder after a successful download

First off, I'm on a MacBook Pro, running 10.6.4 and FF3.6.12
I've recently noticed that on occasion Firefox does not seem to delete the .part file associated with a successful download. The .part file (with a name consisting of a string of random characters followed by a .part extension) is visible in my Download folder stack, although not visible in the actual folder view. I cannot drag this file from the stack to the trash.
The real problem stems from the fact that this seems to create a directory error on my hard drive. Were I to run Disk Utility (which I will have to do... again!), it would return with an error saying something like "incorrect block length", requiring me to boot up from my install disk and repair the drive.
Is this maybe a bug? Is there something I might be doing wrong? Could an extension like AdBlock be messing up my downloads?

It seems that FireFox leaves those partial download files if for any reason they get interrupted. It's possible to resume the download through various uninteresting means, but if you're like me, it gets filled up with files that I intentionally did not complete downloading.
If you're terminal-savvy, you can set up a script that cleans up old .part files. Here's what I've set in my crontab:
    0 * * * * /usr/bin/find ~/Downloads/*.part -atime +1 -exec rm {} \; &> /dev/null
It will delete any files in my downloads folder that are at least 1 day old.
To install this in your crontab, launch terminal and type "crontab -e"
This will bring up a text editor, probably vi. You'll see a bunch of ~'s down the left side. Type "i" to go into "insert" mode. The bottom left will say "-- INSERT --"
Copy and paste (or type) the line of code I have above.
Hit enter just to make sure you have a newline at the end.
Hit "Escape" to exit the insert mode.
Hit Shift-Z Shift-Z (that's Shift-Z twice) to exit the editor.
You should see a status message "crontab: installing new crontab"
If you type "crontab -l" you should see your newly installed crontab.
At the top of the next hour, any .part files that are more than a day old should be deleted, and this should continue forever.

    Hi,
    Namespace issue.
You have to declare it in the XQuery prolog :
    DELETE FROM document
WHERE XMLExists( 'declare default element namespace "urn:hl7-org:v3"; (::)
                      $p/document/id[@root=$root_value]'
                     passing object_value as "p",
                             '03d6a2cd-fdda-4fe1-865d-da0db9212f34' as "root_value" )

  • Recover files deleted via terminal

I used a terminal command and my dropbox, google drive folder and another documents were deleted from my computer. I dont know what the command means and dont know what to do. What i wanted to do whit this command was to resync a google drive folder because I had to reinstall google drive
    This is the command :
    find ~/ -maxdepth 1 -type d -iname '*google*drive*' 2> /dev/null -exec rm -Rf {} \;
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Drive
I got it from this website http://www.knowitnot.com/2013/11/02/reset-google-drive-mac-os-x/
Please help me i really need the info that i lost

    find ~/ -maxdepth 1 -type d -iname '*google*drive*' 2> /dev/null -exec rm -Rf {} \;
    rm -Rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Google/Drive
It is easier to start with the 2nd command.
'rm' is remove, as in delete. the files in ~ (your home folder) -> Library (a hidden file so people do not go messing in it) -> Applications Support -> Google ->Drive (which is where I assume some Google Drive information is typically stored.
The -f says remove the files without prompting.  The -R says recursive, so if the target folder (Drive) has any sub-folders, it will delete those as well, and keep walking down any additional sub-sub-sub-sub...folders until everything in "Drive" and under "Drive" is removed.
So rm -Rf is a very dangerous command, especially if the target directory is something high enough up in the directory tree.  There have been people that have followed posts on the web that deleted their entire file system with just one 10 character rm command.
The 'find' command will search the target folder and all sub-sub-sub...folders and using a huge array of selection options find files and allow other commands to operate on the found files.
The target folder was your home directory (~ is the Unix shortcut for your home folder).
The -maxdepth 1 say says stop at the current folder.  That is to say, do not look in any sub-folders.  A value of 2 would look in just the sub-folders under the target folder.  A value of 3 would go down another level, etc...  So -maxdepth 1 just looked for file in your home folder.
The -type d said select folders (d for directory, aka a folder).  So it ignored anything that was not a folder.
The -iname '*google*drive*' selected only folders that included "google" and "drive" in the name ignoring any upper/lower case differences.  So it was looking for your Google Drive folder in your home folder.
The 2> /dev/null told the Terminal shell to send any error messages to the null device (basically hiding any error messages that would be issued).
Now the fun part, as with the other rm command, the -exec rm -Rf {} \; deleted recursively all the files found by the 'find' command.  The -exec invokes the specified command (in this case rm -Rf) and substitutes the file name found for the {}, the \; is just to tell 'find' where the -exec command ends.
So 'find' found your Google Drive folder in your home folder, then removed it and anything inside of it.
Finally, the 'rm' command is final. There is no UnDo.  There is not Trash folder.  The file name is removed from the directory, the storage associated with the file is put on the file system free list, and the file is gone.  If another file needs storage, it will take that storage from the file system free list, and now the deleted file data is overwritten.  This is why a salvage recovery tool needs to be run as soon as possible after something like this happens to avoid stepping on the accidentally deleted files.  And even then it is often difficult to figure out if something on the free list is a file or just junk.
The only comfort I can give you is that, you have joined a wide group of Unix uses that have done similar things, populated by users with a lot more command line experience than you, but they still typed the wrong thing at the wrong time and lost valuable data.  The lucky ones had a backup, or were able to find another copy, such as checking if the Google Drive online site keeps deleted files for a few weeks, just in case.

Okay, i have 2 bugs with maverick.  First, when I delete a file within a window, the files deletes but the preview doesn't delete until I close the window and reopen it.  Second, I work on a network of computers and the search feature is now buggy...  When I search for a file, A) it asks me if it's a name, or it wont produce anything, and B), its slower than in prior OS versions and in some instances I have to toggle to a different directory and go back to my original directory in the search: menu bar or the search wont produce anything...  Very buggy.

It appears to me that network file access is buggy in Maverick.
In my case I have a USB Drive attached to airport extreme (new model) and when I open folders on that drive they all appear empty. If I right click and I select get info after a few minutes! I get a list of the content.
It makes impossible navigate a directory tree.
File access has been trashed in Maverick.
They have improved (read broken) Finder. I need to manage a way to downgrade to Lion again.
