ACR edits lost in CR4

I recently noticed after upgrading to ACR 5.6 that edits to NEF files, such as brightness, contrast, saturation, CA correction, etc, weren't being saved after clicking "OK" and closing the ACR window in Bridge. I tried opening NEF files directly in PhotoShop and experienced the same issue - when the files were reopened they had been reset to the default. So I surmised the issue was with ACR rather than Bridge or PhotoShop.
Since there doesn't seem to be any script to remove ACR, and the ACR install script won't install where a previous version exists, I tried removing CS4 entirely and then going back to my original disk, completely  reinstalling PhotoShop CS4, with upgrades. Unfortunately the issue persists.
Has anyone else experienced this issue and found a solution? Can anyone confirm that ACR 5.6 actually works on an old PowerPC G5 Mac?
First time around I accidently posted this in the Windows section.

I own a couple of Mac's, but I'm not nearly as proficient with them as with pc's.  The xmp files are in text format, you can open them with textedit or similar and read the contents.  They should be in the same folder with the raw files - check your acr preferences to make sure you're creating sidecar files instead of a database, although either should work.
I don't have any more "bullets" to contribute, hope you find the solution.  I googled some interesting reading but nothing obvious to help your situation.  Make sure you have all the CS4 updates applied, some words of a similar problem to yours if not updated.

  • Bridge 2.1.1.9 stopped showing ACR edits/crops in thumb and preview

Bridge has started having a new problem, intermittently but frequently, in that it will not consistently show the ACR edits when it displays thumbnails or previews.
Specific example I am looking at now. Raw Nikon D300 NEF, open in ACR, crop and adjust various settings, hit "DONE". Return to bridge, and after a couple seconds it shows the edits. All as expected.
A few minutes (or seconds or hours) later, the edits disappear from bridge, from either the preview, the thumbnail, or (usually) both, and the display reverts to the original NEF.
If I open it again in ACR the edits are there, remembered, correct.
Stranger still, if I scroll the thumbnails so that the selected image is not visible, then scroll back, for about 2 seconds the correct edited, cropped thumbnail appears, then it flicks back to the unedited NEF. the preview does not change (and is wrong).
I have cleared this cache, cleared the entire cache - no impact. I have deleted the XMP and started over, it works for a bit, then may come back, or moves to some other picture (some are working correctly, some not).
It DOES show the little crop/edit symbol above the thumbnail, it is just not using it.
And it is not consistent, I have two shots in the same directory. One is showing a correct thumbnail and when I click on it then un-corrected preview. One is showing neither one correct.
Even weirder, the one with the incorrect preview, if I use the magnifier, it shows the correct version (i.e. post ACR) while the unmagnified version is the original NEF.
I've tried high-quality preview, and not.
I've tried software rendering and not.
I have rebooted and checked and all updates are applied.
This has just started happening, I have hundreds of prior D300 shots that worked fine, just the last couple of days. And it works fine for SOME shots now, just not all (I'd say about 50/50 of new shots). Except so far I have not seen it happen for any prior NEF's, just the ones I have downloaded in the last few days. And I have updated nothing on the system, at least not knowingly (Adobe stuff sometimes updates automatically, but I noticed nothing).
    Any ideas?
    Anyone else see similar problems?

Stacy,  I have found from experence that sometimes we are not seeing the same things, or understanding the same words.  So don't intend to put down your skills but try this and see if we are on the same page.  I don't have CS4, just CS3 so my pictue may be a little different.  Am using NEF from Dx40 camera.
When image opened in ACR with double click, or right click, across the bottom of the ACR screen I have the following options; save image, open image, cancel, done, no OK option.
Doing edits and clicking Done saves the edits.  Save image has option to save in different formats.
Copy one of your NEF images to a test folder.  Then go to Edit/develop settings/ clear settings.  This will delete all edits.  Delete the XMP file.  Then do an drastic edit in ACR, like changing exposrue to make it very dark, click Done.
When you go back to bridge and click on NEF image the Preview Panel should show the edits.  I can not see edits in my thumb as I use Quick thumbnails.
Waht do you see in preview window?  The original or an edited NEF?  Do you have a circle symbool in the upper right hand corner of thumb indicating an edit?

  • Extracting an .xmp sidecar from an ACR-edited RAW smart object layer...

Hello all.  Given the following situation:
Several thousand TIFF files, each containing two RAW files embedded into separate Smart Object layers.  The RAW files were named with sequential numbers prior to being composited into the TIFF files via a script, and the TIFF filenames correspond to those of the embedded RAW files.  The RAWs have subsequently been edited in ACR from within the TIFF files.
I've done a little digging, but I can't seem to turn up answers to several related questions:
    A) Should I wish to re-extract the RAW files from the smart object layers with the edits that have been applied, is there a method of PerLayerMetdata that can be used to extract a complete .xmp sidecar that will be recognized by ACR and associated with the exported RAW?
    B) Should I wish to change the sequential-naming of the parent TIFF files, is there any method to correspondingly change the filenames of the embedded RAWs directly within the smart object layer?  In other words, using PerLayerMetdata, can the filenames of the RAWs be changed without exporting the RAWs using a different filename and then replacing the contents of the smart object layer?
    C) I would ultimately like to be able to save the embedded RAWs as DNGs with their ACR edits applied, if necessaray.  Given a way to accomplish A), above, it would be a fairly simple to export the RAWs and associated .xmp files and then run the DNG converter on the lot.  However, does anyone know of a way to save a DNG directly from the smart object layer?
Any ideas or pointers to existing documentation are much appreciated.

Thank you kindly, Michael.  I see now that the example I was viewing had done exactly what you describe, writing ACR settings into the SO layer's metadata at the time of embedding.  I was only looking at the portion which later accessed those settings using PerLayerMetadata, and I had mistakenly assumed that CS5 was automatically embedding xmp data in this manner, now, when opening or placing a RAW file as a SO.
I don't see a direct way to get at the ACR settings of a camera raw file embedded in a smart object.
This is sort of what I was afraid of.  They're in there, somewhere, but I'm having no luck figuring out how to access them.
If the ACR settings for a RAW smart object are, indeed, not exposed to automation in some manner, I think I must change my workflow such that either: A) No edits are performed in ACR after object embedding; or B) the RAWs are converted to DNGs prior to smart-object embedding so that the ACR settings can be exposed in the exported file.

  • Subtitle edits lost every time iMovie is closed

    Hi,
I'm working on a movie with English subtitles. Every time I close iMovie, any editing I've done of the footage itself is saved, but the work I've done on the subtitles is lost!
I'm getting pretty frustrated, especially because I'll work with a native speaker for hours to get the translations/timing just right, and then 2/3 of the subtitles we've changed revert back to how they were before.
The subtitles never disappear completely; they just change back to wrong, earlier versions.
I've tried lots of silly little things, but nothing I do helps.
Any suggestions, please? Thank you so much.

    HI
When iMovie behaves ill - I try something from this list.
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    com.apple.iMovie9.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out on to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple’s Disk Utilities application)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09 or 11)
    • Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time

From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Cropping in Lightroom and ACR+edit in Photoshop

Using the latest versions of Photoshop CC and Lightroom. After editing a raw file, including cropping, in either Lightroom or ACR and then
proceeding to Photoshop, the adjustments-exposure, white balance etc. are imported but not the crop! Very strange. Help would be appreciated in
solving this problem. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick reply Graeme. That is correct. I have tested the issue with a representative from NIK/Google. The "selective tool" was causing the problem. I was dealing with other problems too, like the "exposure" slider in ACR was jumping back all the time. I have been following another discussion concerning this (http://forums.adobe.com/message/5806682#5806682). I have not tried it yet, but there they have had success tackling the problem by changing the Country/Region.

  • Graduated filter migration to lightroom 4 (editing lost when upgrading)

After upgrading from 3 to 4, some editing is lost. In my case, the use of graduated filter with various effects are completely lost. How can I recover the edits?

How did you upgrade? Are the "effects" zeroed or just changed? Did you
    update process version to 2012?

  • Lr/ACR edits missing when opening dng to Ps

    hello,
I´m using latest CC versions from Lightroom and Photoshop. Recently I have been having these issues with Photoshop opening file which don´t show basic edits done in Lr or ACR. Ps opens an original file.
I have also Nik plugins, could that be an explanation for this? On the other hand, I have had those plugins over a year and this missing edits issue came out just couple of days ago. I´m using .dng files and I´m opening file from Lightroom to Ps by "edit in photoshop" command.
I have reseted Ps and from Lr preferences "reset all warnings" has been done.
    Any thoughts?

Lightroom 5 uses the equivalent of ACR 8.x and the Latest ACR Plugin available for PS CS5 is version 6.7.
When you use the "edit in function" from Lightroom you should be getting a warning dialog that offers the choice of "Render using Lightroom" or "open anyway". If you wish all the edits done in Lightroom you need to choose "render using Lightroom" if you choose "open anyway" then ACR 6.x may not be able to apply all the edits done by Lightroom.
If you do not see the missmatch warning it is because it was turned off in a previous session. From the Lightroom main menu bar go to ""Edit >Preferences >General tab > under Prompts select Reset all warning dialogs""

  • Iphoto 9.4.2 crashes- import, export, editing, lost photos-Is there a fix?

I have had multiple crashes with iphoto 9.4.2 on my Mac OSX- 10.7.5 while importing, exporting and --most infurating of all-- while editing. Upon restart all photos were lost - that is there is record of the event but no photos show up in that space. I have had reimport them multiple times. But upon reimporting, iphoto seems to think they are still there and asks me if I want duplicates made.

  • Edits lost in JTable when click on a Tab

Apologies if there is an obvious answer to this question, I'm relatively+ new to Java Swing.
I have a JTable with a custom Editor on Tab 1, and another data entry screen on Tab 2.
On Tab 1, if the user changes the data in the JTable and clicks on Tab 2, they get a dialog "Do you want to save your changes - Yes, No, Cancel?".
If they edit a field, make a change and leave the field, it works fine. However, if the user enters the field, and presses Tab 2 immediately, the changes are lost (even if they choose to save).
The Form saves screen based changes to the underlying object via a setValueAt() in the JTable model. But if the user doesn't leave the edit - the setValueAt() does not fire, and the changes are therefore lost.
I've found (and tried) including the terminateEditOnFocusLost option on the JTable to no effect.
What I "*think*" needs to happen is:
On clicking the Tab. The edit is terminated, forcing the setValueAt() processing and editor based validation. As and when they complete, the "Do you want to save..?" processing kicks in if needed.
I've spent some time looking for an answer so I don't patronise the community with stupid questions - but I can't find one. Would be really grateful if there's a simple solution. Only alternative I have is the "Editor" triggers the update to the background object - something I'd prefer to avoid.

I have a JTable with a custom Editor on Tab 1, and another data entry screen on Tab 2.
I've found (and tried) including the terminateEditOnFocusLost option on the JTable to no effect. Well, when you refer to a "Tab" I assume you mean a tabbed pane. I also assume that you have added to to the ChangeListener for the tabbed pane to do the above processing.
I think the problem is one of timing. The code in the ChangeListener is executing before the "lostFocus" event of the table and as a result the TableModel has not been updated with the new value.
So, try wrapping the code in your ChangeListener into a SwingUtilities.invokeLater(...) block. This should cause your code to be executed after the "focusLost" event is processed.
"Do you want to save your changes - Yes, No, Cancel?".How do you know the data has changed?
Do you use a TableModelListener to set a "data changed" switch. If so, then the above approach may not work as the "table model changed" event may still not execute before your ChangeListener.
Do you use a custom TableModel and override the setValueAt(...) method to track changes? If so, then the above suggestion should work.
I've spent some time looking for an answer...Then you should know that we always recommend posting a SSCCE so we don't have to guess exactly what you are doing.
If you need further help then you need to create a "Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program (SSCCE)", that demonstrates the incorrect behaviour.
    http://homepage1.nifty.com/algafield/sscce.html
Don't forget to use the "Code Formatting Tags", so the posted code retains its original formatting.

  • IPhoto Freeze on full screen Editing - Lost threads ???

    Hi all,
as I'm one of those experiencing multiple problems with iPhoto 9 and Snow Leopard, with freezing the complete OS in full screen editing and displaying repeatedly scrambled or corrupt images, I wanted to subscribe to one of the many multipage threads here but they all seem to be gone !!!
Did I miss something? Has the problem been fixed meanwhile?
If there is a fix, please someone share the secret, iPhoto is driving me crazy...
    Thanks!

Sorry, it did not change anything!
It took me quite a while to find the time and the courage to rebuild a completely new iPhoto Library from scratch... but I did it... with more than 5000 pix in it, of course beautifully sorted and most even modified! Altough the problem still remains, at least I did cleanup the base properly.
Now I'm gonna try to migrate to iPhoto '11... fingers crossed!

  • Edits "lost" on save

I opened a pdf with Acrobat X; did an ink signiture; made edits (added text) with the typewriter tool.
After saving, the typewriter edits do not show when the file is opened with Mac Preview; the signiture does show.
    Ideas?
oh, tried saving with different methods to no avail until PDF A which did work.  So a format thing only?
incidentally, help describes PDF 3,4,etc. but the program uses A, B, etc.  this is not helpful
    Thanks
    Scott

everything is fine when opened in Acrobat; just like I edited it before I saved it and closed Acrobat

  • CS5 purchased 2010 teacher/student edition lost serial number as computer hard drive crashed

I purchased CS5 extended Teacher/Student edition in 2010 when I purchased my Macbook. Recently in 2014 My hard drive crashed and I needed to reinstall my photoshop.
During the installation It asks for the serial number. I no longer have this and it is not referenced on the box or anywhere in the packaging or on any documentation that I currently have.
I really need to reinstall but every time I try to contact adobe through chat It says it is unavailable, does anyone know how I can rectify this?
    Regards

If you registered it with Adobe, your serial number would be here

  • IPhoto images reverting spontaneously (edits lost)

I'm not sure if I'm following protocol here. I started a discussion about "iPhoto Library Locked" and in attempting to solve the problem realized I have a different problem. I'm going to go ahead and post under the new heading in the hopes that it will catch the eye of someone who has solved the same problem.
In my library, my photos have started to spontaneouly revert to the original image, wiping out all of my changes. It happens when I double click to enlarge the image; I can watch the crops and edits simply melt away. If I have opened the edit window and am displaying the adjustment pane, it initally shows all the adjustments that were made and then, as it reverls, all of the sliders go back to neutral.
I have option-double-clicked when opening the file to do rebuilds on the permissions, thumbnails and the library DB, and then I've rebuilt the library DB. I tried doing a rebuild using iPhoto Library Manager (IPLM). It appeared to work correctly up to rebuilding thumbnails pretty much at the end of the process; several times during this process iPhoto quit unexpectedly - IPLM simply restarted until at one point IPLM said it was unable to communicate with iPhoto and the whole process just hung up. I had to force quit IPLM. The IPLM rebuilt library was about 27 GB whereas the original is about 30 GB.
My computer (a Mac Book Pro) is running OS 10.8.2 and the iPhoto version is 9.4.2.
Any suggestions as to what to try next?

Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there.
Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A Finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Look there for the iPod Photo Cache. Trash it. Start iPhoto and try sync again.
    Regards

I have installed Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition on a brand new Windows 7 machine and registered with a new Microsoft account. This was for testing purpose to see how well the new Community Edition would work in comparison to the Professional Edition.
    At first, everything looked good.
Didn't use it in a while now, and just came back to see that it's complaining about a license. What a warm welcome. It gave me a link to "renew" the license and I clicked it. It opened that pre-login window, then came back and said this:
SP324098: Your browser could not complete the operation.
That's all. Every single time I retry. What does it even mean? I don't want my browser (IE11 by the way) to do anything, I just want that license to use my free Visual Studio edition. Is it not free after all, was it just a trial that has now expired? I
mean, why should I get a 1500$ application for free... That just doesn't sound real.
Anyway, can somebody tell me what went wrong and whether/how it can be fixed?

Okay, something's badly broken here in my region. I took an older VM with Windows 8.1 and an installed VS 2013 (from MSDN, with licence), uninstalled VS 2013, installed all Windows updates, and then installed the VS 2015 CTP 5. It has installed fine, but
at the first start, it says:
Sorry, we ran into a problem.
SP324098: Your browser could not complete the operation.
At least I can ignore the problem and continue in this case. After starting, under "Register product", it first said "licence expires in 14 days" and I was logged in with my primary account. Must have been from the previous installation.
The error code appeared here as well. After logging out and registering again, it seems to work. And my default browser here is Chrome and I never took special care about IE. In VS 2013 CE, however, I don't even get the login form.
So this is an entirely different machine, it has never seen a community edition of Visual Studio nor the separate account I used for it. Yet it failed with the very same error message. What the heck does that error code even mean and what is the real cause
of it?? Can you please tell me the truth about it? I don't want to chase symptoms or try every guess somebody might have (retry, restart, reinstall) – that leads us nowhere. This error appears for a reason, I hope, and somebody must be able to find that out.
(If not, I'm really wondering what Microsoft engineers do and whether they know their product.)
If this doesn't improve, I honestly and urgently suggest you drop this broken licensing implementation and replace it by what there was before (i.e. product key or nothing at all) or use another proven technology. This thing just isn't stable or reliable
    and will cause trouble.
