ACR Error

Running Mac OSX 10.6.8, Lightroom 6 and CS6 Beta.
Tried opening a Canon Raw file in CS6 as a smart object. Opened no problem.  Global correction work as expected.  Went to add a graduated filter and received an error:  "Unable to create local adjustments.  All the local adjustment controls are set to have no effect on the image."  Same error message with local adjustment brush and same error if opened directly into camera raw instead of as a smart object in CS6.
I cannot find any preference setting that addresses this issue and I have searched the forum without any luck.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help.
Scott

Thank you Jeff.  It seems so obvious once you know the answer.

  • 'The file could not be created' - ACR v6.6

I see this problem has been around for literally years. This is for raw files from both Canon 5D mkII, and Nikon D300 cameras, and only when I select to save in a new location.
    What is the fix?

Noel, I may come off frustrated (I am), but I do appreciate Richard and you at least responding. These two machines are the only two I haven't built myself in the last 15+ years. Box#1 is a Dell Insiprion 530 dual core intel, 2.8 ghz, box#2 is a HP 9300 quad core 2.66 ghz...both are from the same generation of machines (about 3.5 years old). Both have 6gb of ram, windows vista 64 bit OS "home premium", and service pack 2 installed.  The drive the photos are stored on, and to which I am attempting to save them - are extneral  drives which have permissions set to full control for everyone - from the root of the drive to as deeply nested a folder you can possibly imagine. I am the only "user" of both machines, and I have administrator privledges.  I'd like to suggest some critical thinking be applied here.
1-In CSv4 (which is still installed) ACR NEVER generated this error, or any other error...in all versions through version v5.7 of ACR
2-When I installed CSv5 >version 5.1 update, and the ACR update to v6.6 I DID have ACR errors generated
No changes to the OS were done, only the upgrade to version CSv5.1 and ACR v6.6 were added to both machines. Photoshop CSv4 and it's proprietory ACR version continue to work properly. Since the ONLY changes to both machines are a newer version of Photoshop/Bridge/&ACR - It is a certainity that the problem lies with a conflict between the new CSv5.1 software, and the OS. I have read on these forums all the way back to CSv2 and many earlier versions of ACR about similar errors, with the similar response concerning persmissions. I have not encountered a single post where changing persmissions fixed ACR errors for a single person. If I remember correctly...the earlist date I saw was 2005...so this has been going on for 6+ years. I did take note that rolling back to earlier versions, and newer versions of ACR did fix this problem for a handful of people. I will stop posting before I am driven to ranting like Dinarius did above, but you should note that telling someone repeatedly to change their level of permissions to administartor - when they have repeatedly conveyed that they already have, and that they had always been in that state - is very irritating.
I will re-state what did work for me, but it is not a fix. I rolled back to ACR v6.2 - which has a different interface for navigating to the "new folder". It's obvious the problem lies with this new naviagtion panel in acr v6.6, because the display does not update, and it leaves the path blank. Whether it is ACR's coding that is at fault or the OS - I neither know nor care. Can either of you escalate this thread to someone in the department that writes this code to have a look see, please!

  • Photoshop CS5/Lightroom 3 integration issue - "Edit Copy with Lightroom Adjustments" does not work

When clicking "Edit Copy with Lightoomroom Adjustments" from Lightroom, I get an error in Lightroom 3 complaining that the Camera Raw plug-in is not up to date; full message below.
"This version of Lightroom may require the Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in version 6.1 for full compatibility.
Camera Raw version 4.6 is the latest version available for Photoshop CS3. If raw file support for your camera was introduced after Camera Raw 4.6, the Photoshop integration features in Lightroom require Photoshop CS4 and the latest Camera Raw version 5 plug-in.
The version of Camera Raw plug-in currently installed is 0.0."
After I click "Open Anyways", Photoshop CS5 is initiated but it seems to have lost context of why it is opened and asks me what file I want to open (i.e. the Open As dialog).
"Edit Copy" and "Edit Original" from Lightroom 3 works as expected and opens images fine in Photoshop, CS5 however.
My installation is on Windows 7. I currently also have Lightroom 1.4 and Photoshop CS3 installed. Everything worked fine with the old configuration. I also tried the same workflow in Lightroom 1.4 again just now, which is now linked to CS5 instead of CS3. The "Edit Copy with Lightroom Adjustments" also work just fine.
Things that I have tried but do not worked:
I did an Update via the Help -> Update menu, and also manually downloaded the Camera Raw 6.1 plug-in.
Blew away the Photoshop preferences file
Made sure that Lightroom 3 points to Photoshop for editor
I'm thinking that I'll try uninstall CS3 next. Anyone else encountered this issue?

[CS5.1 (12.1) ACR 6.5RC / LR 3.5RC; MacbookPro 4gb Leopard 10.5.8 ] As a Lightroom instructor, up until now this has been a vexxing problem to explain to my students. Even if ACR in Photoshop is up to date (I just downloaded 6.5RC and installed the PS Plugin), I still get the error when attempting to edit from Lightroom 3.5RC. I deleted the PS prefs file to no avail. I was not willing to re-install Photoshop as a solution (per some blog's suggestion), although that might be the ultimate answer. But what an ordeal if so!
For a solution, I went back to a resolution I devised when I had a CS3 compatibility problem with LR3. I went into the Preferences of Lightroom and manually chose the Photoshop app as the "custom" image editor. I went back to edit the file in PS from Lightroom and the ACR error disappeared. Try it. Yes, this means you need to use the Custom editor as your image editor, but it seems to have resolved the issue.

  • Windows error message when trying to install ACR 4.5

Hi. Following the download instructions the best that I can, I run into problems when reaching the instructions' point 6: moving the newly downloaded zip file 8b file into the ......../File Formats folder from which I just had moved the existing 4.4 file. Windows tells me that I've run into an unexpected error "0x80004005". A google search for this didn't help me much, so now I'm wondering if anyone here has run into a similar problem, or know it's solution.
I'm running Vista Premium Home, CS3 10.0.1 and LR 2.0.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your help. Yes I first tired to upgrade when PS was open and Adobe Updater asked me to upgrade and it said to close PS so I did. When that attempt failed several times I downloaded it from adobe.com and I didn't want to get rid of the existing camera raw until I was sure the new one worked so I tried to move the existing one out of the folder adobe designated the downloaded file to go in and I couldn't move it. Maybe I should just download it and let it replace existing file. Worse thing would be I have to reinstall PS.
    My OS is XP.

  • PS CC HDR toning in ACR then Converting to 16 bit major error!

So here's the deal - I'm an avid user of HDR and have always made my HDRs in photoshop (but tonemapped elsewhere).  Now, with the new tonemapping in ACR I can get great results - BUT - there's a BIG problem.
After I've created my HDR and toned it in ACR it opens in photoshop as a 32 bit file (with the camera raw adjustments showing as a filter).
    And it looks great.
BUT, when I try to make that a usable file by converting down to 16 or 8 bit - all that work goes to waste.
I've always used "exposure and gamma" to convert from 32 to 16 or 16 to 8 - that's the one we all know and love because it doesn't change anything as far as the image appearance.
However - with HDRs I create and tone in ACR:  Once I do this to convert to 16 bits using exposure and gamma (like always and touching nothing) - the image turns almost white - horribly washed out and lousy looking.  I've tried it every way I can think of.  I'll flatten the 32 bit file as to get rid of the acr smart filter, I've rasterized the layer, I've duplicated the document, I've tried merging and not merging - everything.  The preview that shows when I am about to convert 32 to 16 in exposure/gamma looks correct, but as soon as I do it - boom - washed out weird looking image.
    Other issue:
If I save a 32 bit psd after toning in ACR to work on later - it looks way different the next time I open it.  This happens whether I save the profile along with the file or not.  It opens darker, for the most part and I can never get back to how it was (and was unable to save as 32, 16, or 8 looking right!).
Last issue:  If I create a 32 bit hdr image but choose NOT to tone in acr and save it as a radiance file - if I open that radiance file later in photoshop and use the acr filter to tone it - again, it appears way different like a lot of data has been lost.  The image is usually a lot brighter, washed out, less colorful, and the pixels seem to not be able to bend very far in any direction.
Can someone please explain if I am doing something wrong??  Or if this is a bug??  I love the way the 32 bit images look once I've toned them - but that's the only time they'll look remotely like that!  Can't save, convert to 16 bit, or do doodly squat without the image drastically changing!

Ok!  Thank you everyone for taking the time to help me figure this out!  I appreciate it!
I have taken everyone's advice into consideration and tried everything suggested - watched every video - read every link - and here's where I'm at now.
There's some good news and bad news and just plain weird news.
I do have those profile settings enabled (always have) - and it does ask me if I want to embed, convert, or discard.
If I flatten a 32 bit toned image (to get rid of the acr filter) and save it as a 32 bit tiff - I can re-open that tiff with convert to working space on - and it looks the same.  I can ALSO convert that tiff to 16 bit and have it look a LOT closer to the original (nothing like the washed out ones).  That's good news!
However, if I save the 32 bit toned image with the acr filter still there as PSD - it will open washed out and crazy the next time I open it (using convert to working space - I've also tried every other option).  So - working on a 32bit toned in acr image again is still impossible after closing it without it looking all washed out.
ALSO - there is one section in color profile settings that is puzzling me and affects all of this in a major way.
Above the three boxes to check about profile mismatches and warnings - there are 3 settings
    RGB, CMYK, and Gray.
Now by default my RGB settings was RGB: Off
I know this is a weird issue because my working space is adobe rgb and the profile mismatch warnings are still on - so the same result happens when opening files.  And also by checking the include the working color profile with an image when you save it should achieve the same result as haveing RGB: Preserve Embedded Profiles on.  But there's a weirder area this causes a difference.
If I have that RGB setting OFF - and merge those 3 same images to hdr and then go to tone in ACR it looks really dark (not a problem it's a 32 bit hdr file - I use acr to make it look the way I want).  It's rich in color and seems to have loads of data and tone available to play with.
HOWEVER - if I start with that RGB setting to "Preserve embedded profiles" - then merge those same 3 images to hdr and then go to tone in ACR it looks entirely different.  It looks way less dark and contrasty, is very drained in color, and seems to have a lot less data to play with in terms of bringing out shadows or toning down highlights.
It's best for me to just show you a side by side - as I'm including here.  This is the same hdr created with no changes other than that one setting (shown in the image) being different before I merge to hdr.  (And the 32bit image that opens in ACR I have made zero changes to at the point of screen capture).
    Any ideas?

  • When attempting to install Acrobat IX i get the following error "Error 1335" "pcw-cab-acr 11007" saying the file is corrupt.  What causes this error and how do I fix it?

Has anyone else found this error?

I have found a temporary solution, allowing the previous version of iTunes (v. 11.1.3 (x64) in my case) to be re-installed.  It will allow you to re-establish use of iTunes until the Apple software engineers fix the most recent disasterous upgrade (v. 11.1.4).  Please see and follow the procedure in the following article:http://smallbusiness.chron.com/reverting-previous-version-itunes-32590.html   The previous version works beautifully.

  • PS12.0.4/ACR 6.3 Update errors - tried all fixes, no go.

Got a D3100, said Camera Raw was outdated. Tried to update via update tab AND manual download, got "not applicable" error.
Tried to update to Photoshop 12.0.4 via update tab and manual download, same "not applicable" error.
    Using CS5
    Win7 64bit
My Premiere Pro updated fine however....very frustrating, 3 jobs this weekend and Im ground to a halt with this.
Lightroom works/opens RAW fine, but I like photoshop more and want to fix this BADLY.
    Any help?

There is no folder literally with \productname\ in it normally.  I assume you found the folders specifically for CS5.
Here are the actual paths for the two Camera Raw plug-in files, the first for 32 bit and the second for 64 bit.  Note that these are TWO DIFFERENT FILES.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS5\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi
If you've updated these exact files with the proper copies of Camera Raw.8bi that you received, but you find that the version has not changed, then either you received a version of Camera Raw other than what you thought it should be, or you have other copies of Camera Raw.8bi that Photoshop is picking up from somewhere else.
Windows Search is terrible for this sort of thing.  I recommend you start a privilege-elevated CMD window and type the following command, followed by Enter.  It may take a while to complete, but it WILL tell you where all the copies of Camera Raw.8bi are located on your system:
    DIR  "C:\Camera Raw.8bi"  /s  /b

Photoshop and Bridge are not running, I extract the files from the zip and run the .exe setup file, but the installer fails.
I would like to install and use with my Canon 7d files and would appreciate any help you are able to provide.

    Hi
First thing to check if windows is activated.
Secondly if the first option is valid then add the following registry keys:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Bootstrap] "BootstrapDir"="C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\"
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Bootstrap\Setup] "PatchLevel"="11.00.2100.60"
Then copy from the media / temp setup directory following files / folder into C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2012
    x64 folder, resources folder, setup.exe.
    Change to x86 when necessary.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

  • ACR is not working, it doesn't appear, i get an error message in spanish [my language] that says something like: It's not the right kind of document. Is just a 5DmkIII Raw...

    Can anyone help me please?
I already uninstalled it. Rebooting, dont know what to do. No chat online in adobe?

What version of Photoshop are you running?
First you need to determine when Adobe released support for your Canon EOS 5D Mark III camera in Photoshop.  To do that, look at these two pages.  Specifically, you'll want to find out the earliest version of Camera Raw that can support your camera, then what version of Photoshop can run that version of Camera Raw.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
If your version of Photoshop CAN support your camera, but you don't presently have the latest Camera Raw, use Help - Updates in Photoshop to get it.
If your version of Photoshop CANNOT support your camera directly, you can download and install the latest version of the free Adobe DNG Converter, which can take your raw files as input and put out DNG format files, which your version of Photoshop can open.
Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)
The DNG converter does work, and you will be able to open the converted DNG files with an older version of Photoshop, but if you want maximal quality from your raw files (not to mention the convenience and ease of use of directly opening your raw files) you'll want the latest version of Photoshop. Adobe has made substantial improvements in raw conversion quality in recent years.
