ACR for CS5

I have a new camera who's raw files can not be opened in Bridge, ACR or Photoshop.  Is there a workaround that does not include a new purchase of PS?

Please try the free DNG Converter, it converts RAW files to DNG which your version of ACR should be able to handle.
Check this list to see if your new camera is being supported at all:

  • Why can't I open files from ACR to CS5?

I have been using CS5/Bridge/ACR for a year now and all of the sudden, I cannot get the RAW images from ACR into CS5.  I always open my RAW files from Bridge, make my adjustments in ACR, then select all and open images into CS5.  This has always worked just fine, but recently only a random number of images will open, if any at all!
For example, If I select 10 images to open in CS5, it may be 4 that open, or it could be 8, or it could be 0.  I haven't done anything new to my computer.  I have uninstalled photoshop and reinstalled it twice and that hasn't helped.
I am so frustrated.  I thought I purchased a quality product (which I have loved until now since I can't even get my files in to use the program!) and am so dissapointed that I can't use it anymore.
Hopefully someone can help me.  I really want to use photoshop again!

You could try to reset Bridge preferences.  Hold down the Ctrl key and start Bridge.  You should get a reset window with 3 options.

  • How do I get camera raw plugin for cs5.1 extented for new olympus omd e-m1 camera?

how do you get camera raw plugin for cs5.1 extented for new olympus omd e-m1 camera?

Native support requires ACR version 8.3, which will only run under CS6 or CC.
Use the free DNG converter to make DNGs readable in older ACR versions. http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates.html

  • No update Camera Raw for CS5

The only update of Camera Raw for CS5 was ver 6.7.1 in Mid 2013 but the Nikon Df wasn launch in Dec last year.  Adobe did not update the file therefore my Creative Suite 5 could not see the new NEF file unless I use DNG Converter to change to DNG file.

Adobe does not update obsolete versions on ACR.
So if you expect ACR to support RAW files from cameras that were not available when support for that version of ACR stopped with the release of the next version you will be probably dissappointed.
Please try the free DNG Converter to get the files into a format your obsolete version of ACR can process.

  • How to download and open 7.1 for CS5?

I have CS5 (I got the DVD directly from Adobe), and have been using it for some time with no problems.  Now that I have a new camera, I want a more recent version of RAW, so that my camera's RAW files can be read.  But inside PS, under Help, the "Updates" tab is grayed out . . . I cannot access it.  I tried closing down PS and opening it under "run as administrator" (I have Windows Vista as my OS).  Still grayed out.
By hunting around on DPreview.com, I was able to find a direct link for the download.  Downloaded the .zip file.  Extracted all the files, but there's no .exe file in there.  Tried clicking on everything there, just to see if anything would work.  Nothing.  Downloaded again the Adobe Application Manager.  The Manager does not show Camera RAW as one of the 14 available programs to download and/or try.
    What's my next step?

ACR 7.x won't work on CS5 - you need CS6 for it to work. The last version of ACR that would work with CS5 was 6.7. Once a new version of PS is released, new camera support for older versions of ACR ceases.
You can either upgrade, or convert the new camera files to DNG using Adobe's free convertor. You don't say what camera model, so I'll just have to hope it's supported by the current version of the DNG convertor... But it probably is/will be soon.
Hope this helps. Not neccessarily what you wanted to hear I guess, but the convertor will allow you to open the new camera files into ACR on CS5.

  • ACR for TIFF & JPEG's

When I open a RAW file in Photoshop CS5, ACR automatically comes up.  Can I "force" or get ACR once JPEG's and TIFF's, are open on the screen?

I had these settings selected already.  I can get RAW, JPEG, and TIFF's to open up in CS5.  My question centers around being able to use ACR for all file formats.
As mentioned, when I open a RAW file in CS5, the photo automatically comes up in ACR (that's good).  When I open up a JPEG, it does open up, but not in ACR.  I'd like to know how I (if that's possible) to open up the JPEG and TIFF's with ACR ?

  • RAW download for CS5 problem

I am trying to download the update for RAW on my Imac. But twice now it tells me that it is unable to install (6.4.1 update) and to fix the problems. I dont know what the problem is to fix it. Has anyone else had this problem and how was it sorted. I have just got the Canon 6D and I dont wish to convert to a DNG each time I use the camera.

Run the Creative Suite Cleaner Tool, reinstall. And the maximum ACR vewrsion for CS5 is 6.7, so just get that.

  • Using XMP Lib in a plugin for CS5.0 Windows

    Hello
I have been able to compile the XMP-Toolkit-SDK-5.1.2 and use it successfully in a plugin for CS5.0 Mac OS X.
Im now trying to do the same on windows, but with no luck. Im using MS Visual C++ 2008 express edition.

  • Upgrade to CS4 web premium . . . or wait for CS5 ?

The question I have for anyone who may have some insight:  Is there anything groundbreaking in the works for Dreamweaver, Photoshop or Illustrator in CS5 which is due to be released in about 6 months ?
We have CS3 Web Standard, and now want to upgrade to Web Premium so we can get Photoshop and Illustrator which we now need, but with some pain could probably find a way to hold off for another 6 months .... if it was worth the wait that is. We don't necessarily need (and can't afford) the latest Software version all the time, but has there been any discussion about Improvements or New Features in the next release that's going to make us regret not waiting .......... ?
    * We are a small home business, but don't want to miss out on any major changes if you know what I mean . . .

I wouldn't expect anything groundbreaking from one version to the next.  It sometimes comes down to maximizing your operating system to take advantage of speed boosts in both the OP and CS applications.  Your existing CS3 system may not be compatable with the requirements of CS5 whatever they may be, or not.  It's hard to say.  If you are planning on getting new hardware ( sounds like you are not ), then you may want to wait. If you plan on using your existing hardware, you may be able to upgrade to CS4.  But from the sounds of it, CS3 and Tiger is a pretty good combination and you will be able to get away with using that for awhile.  There have been significant fixes from CS2 to CS4, where CS3 had it's problems in Illustrator ( not sure about PS ).  Adobe sometimes throws a bone out to people who buy CS4 and get a break when they ante up for CS5, just be aware of the system requirements.

  • Raw updates needed for CS5 and Elements 11?

I have several adobe products. I want to install the latest raw updates for CS5 Photoshop and Elements 11. The app. manager tells me I have the latest updates. My CS6 product updated the newest raw product but not my others. I would like to get phone support for these issues - is there a phone number that connects to real people? The %^*()^ support section on the web takes me around in circles - very frustrating.  Any help out there?

the good old argument is at what point do you stop supporting stuff? Elements is now up to 13.
I assume Adobe would argue you have cc already why are you still using cs5?
As I read it, the new 8.7 raw is only good for cs6 and above. They won't make 2 versions of raw, so I assume you are still on 7.4 for cs5?
On that basis, alas stick with your cs6 to do the newer stuff you need.
that all said, a bit of manual tweaking seems to work for some people. - Camera Raw 8.1 and PSE 11 - Elements Village

  • Buy CS4 or wait for CS5

I'm relatively new to Photoshop, and I'm planning of buying it for my home PC in the next few months, but I was wondering if it would be better to wait for CS5 since I read it was coming "Mid 2010". Thanks in advance!

You beat me to the punch! I was going to add your "leaked" info.
Still, Adobe has historically given a "grace period" to buyers of previous versions, usually within 30 days of release. Who knows here? Should be the same, or very similar.
Now, will PS (and the other common suite programs) be on pre-sale upon release, or later? Will the release be THAT much later? When will the "grace period" kick in?
Even with an unveiling date, there will still be questions.

PS - some folk, with very recent Flash versions have ended up with Adobe Media Encoder (AME) CS5! Do not know what that is about, but I find it interesting.

  • What laptop to get for CS5 or CS6...

Increasingly there appear questions about which laptop to get for CS5/6.
First, the question is why a laptop and why not a desktop?
Laptops are always at least 2 to 3 times slower than a desktop, they are significantly more expensive than a desktop with the same or better performance and they need a wall outlet to use. Batteries don't last long enough for editing and you need a wall outlet for external components (disks, monitor, BD-R etc.) that are required. All that makes a laptop more like an expensive, underpowered luggable machine.
For video editing machines it is always best to use a machine for video editing only and use a second system for other applications and this is especially true for much weaker laptops than desktops.
So, let me repeat the question: What are the considerations to use a laptop over a desktop? You have to be very clear about it to sell the idea to the one responsible for the budget. You also have to be clear about the performance penalty, if you decide to go forward with a laptop.
OK, we got this out of the way. You have good arguments to get a laptop and you have succesfully sold the idea to the one responsible for the available budget.
So what are your choices and what do you need to look for in terms of specs?
First, let me remind you of the article Adobe Forums: What PC to build? An update... because it contains a number of relevant issues that influence your choice. Basically there are three approaches possible:
Get a laptop from a brand company like Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba and the like.
Get a customizable laptop from specialist companies like Sager or Clevo.
Get a custom builder like ADK Video Editing build you a system tuned to your needs.
All these solutions have a number of common components, under the assumption you want to edit HD material:
CPU: at least a quad core i7 processor, preferably with hyper-threading. The faster the better.
GPU: at least a nVidia GTX 660M or better with 1+ GB DDR5 memory.
Disks: at least 2 internal 7200 RPM disks.
Connections: minimum is eSATA plus USB3 ports.
Monitor: at least 1920 x 1080 resolution and 15.4" screen size or bigger.
Memory: bare minimum is 8 GB but workable is only 16 or 32 GB.
Looking at brand names one may come up with a short-list like:
Now, in their standard configurations they are all lacking on some aspects. Insufficient memory, only single disk, or lacking connections. If these can not be configured to meet the above practical minimum requirements, where at least 2 disks is the most crucial, there is only companies like Sager and Clevo to look at. Something like this is about bare minimum, because of the underspecced video card:
Despite the price this will still be around 3 times slower than an equally priced desktop. If that performance penalty is too big, then one can consider a system like this:
Again, despite the price, this system will still be more than 2 times slower than a far less expensive desktop, but hey, you knew that when you decided on a laptop and got approval for the budget, right?
The last option is to go to a custom builder to get a laptop that is exactly tuned to your needs and budget. It will not be less expensive than the Sager route, but it will get you the best balance between performance and price for your needs. Additionally, you get great service if ever needed.
To sum this up, a laptop is a compromise. A compromise in performance and price. It is not for the faint of heart, faint of wallet. It is not a laptop, it is a luggable system on a wall outlet. An alternative is coasters under a desktop system and you can use other wall outlets as well, but with a better price and far better performance.
I hope this will help people to decide if they really need a laptop and if affirmative, to get the right system for their needs.

As usual, Harm has provided very knowledgeable and helpful advice in this matter. I would like to add that if you are inclined, and feel it's worth a gamble.....New Egg has been selling refurbished Asus i7 laptops that have almost all the necessary components for a lower price than normal. You may have to add more memory yourself and add a quality SSD for OS and programs and pagefile, ( cloned from the supplied drive). Then, use the supplied drive for media and all else in the second bay....or, as an emergency backup of your original configuration. I am not sure, but I think if you put a second Marvell controlled SSD in the second bay instead,( Corsair Pro or Plextor Pro...no Sandforce), you may get the benefit of SATA III speeds from BOTH drives for best laptop performance.....I am not sure if earlier criticisms of SSD degradation still apply with these newer Marvell controlled SSDs.
I DO know that my old Asus G73JW tested MUCH FASTER on Harm's PPBM5 benchmark when I added extra memory,( from 8 to 14GB ), AND used a Corsair Force 120GB SATA II SSD in each of the two internal drive bays.  On that site you can see similar laptops to mine performing way slower using less memory and conventional spinning HDDs. At the time, I was careful to choose SSDs that had a high read AND write speed. I have had no issues with my SSDs. I also have used the Seagate Momentus XT hybrid HDD as project drive.....and scored lower on the PPBM test,( not submitted).
Harm is right.....any laptop will not approach the performance of a good desktop setup....not to mention PPro CS 6 appears to be even more powerful and demanding than the 5.03 I'm using. People are reporting needing at least 32GB memory  and more than 2GB video card memory to get better performance.
Someone posted about Exotic PC selling upgraded laptops, ( some Asus) with up to 32GB memory and muliple HDD configurations....you may be able to upgrade a laptop similarly yourself for less money. Watch the sales at Tiger Direct and New Egg....you may find some thing workable.
