ACR in Elements 9.0

All,
I have been using ACR in Elements 9 since purchasing a D90 DSLR this winter.  I recently noticed that in other ACR examples there are more than 3 tabs.  After reading the FAQ it said that means I am actually using the Nikon plug-in, not Adobe's.  I have tried fruitlessly to locate the Nikon NEF plugin in the Adobe plug ins directory.  Anyone have any more specific locations or instructions?  Is the Nikon plugin installed with the NEF codec I installed for windows, or is there some other process that I can reverse?  I would really like to be able to do distortion corrections as I'm editing in ACR.  Thanks for any help you can give me,
Eric

Although ACR running in Photoshop Elements is the same plug in that is used with Photoshop, many of the features are purposely hidden.  I have never used Photoshop Elements/ACR, so I'm not sure which features of the plug in have been hidden.  But I suspect you are reading instructions for Photoshop and trying to utilize them using Photoshop Elements.  And that won't work.  If you don't see those features, it's probably because they are only available if you are using a full version of Photoshop.

  • How do I find and download ACR for Elements 9

Having trouble finding and downloading ACR for Elements 9

ACR is only updated for a particular version of Elements until the new version of Elements comes out.  A new version of Elements comes out in the Aug-Oct timeframe of each year.  PSE 11 came out in the fall of 2012 so PSE 10 came out in the fall of 2011.  Look for the last version of ACR that came out before PSE 10 came out.  You can find the various versions of ACR for your computer’s OS by going to http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ and choosing Camera Raw – your-computer-platorm at the top.  On the camera-raw versions page that comes up click on the links for a late-summer/early-fall 2011 version of ACR.  In my estimation this could be either 6.5 or 6.4 depending on whether PSE 9 was replaced by PSE 10 before or after 9/28/2011 when ACR 6.5 came out.  The way to check is that once you’ve clicked over to the download page for a particular version of ACR, there are two more links on that page, one for PSE and one for PRE and click the PSE one to see what version of Elements that version of ACR is for.  Check this until the version of PSE is higher than the one you have and then one back one version.

  • Problem Going from ACR to Elements

    Hi,
I am very new to the whole editing thing. I am using Adobe Camera Raw, v8.2 to edit raw files.
I think i have got the hang of all the settings and can make the file look just how i would like it to look. However, when i then click on the open button and the file opens in elements, it looks nothing like the file i was looking at in ACR. Straight away it looks more pixelated and setting the image at 100% looks awful, when at 100% in ACR looked fine.
    Am i doing something wrong?
I am using elements 12 on a macbook pro.
    thanks
    Jacks

    Thanks for replying.
Have tried this and i still have the same problem.
I open the image in ACR, make the changes i want, get the image looking as i want it to, click 'open image' and it opens in the main elements window and straight away the photo is pixelated and more grainy. I save it as a JPG to upload to my photo site and the jpg is just as grainy.
I just dont know what i am doing wrong, the original jpg (i shoot both in raw and jpg) is better quality than the edited raw, even if i do nothing to it, it loses quality when opening the raw in elements and saving as a jpg via ACR.
So i end up having to use either the original jpg, as done by my camera, or a jpg created via ACR and elements, which has a better look as i have tweaked the settings, but a lesser more grainy quality.
My objective was to improve my photos with editing software not make them worse.
Maybe would have more luck in lightroom.
    thanks

  • More ACR for elements questions

After having played around with ACR 4.1 I have a few questions and observations:
Not all the the features described as being in 4.1 in this article
    http://photoshopnews.com/2007/05/31/about-camera-raw-41/
seem to be accessible, e.g. holding down the alt key while looking at radius and sharpening values to see the masks applied. Are these features available from CS but not in elements (It's the same plugin) or were they never implemented in 4.1 but only in some beta copy of the SW?
As noted in different msgs, there is scarcely any documentation for ACR 4.1 except what I can glean from articles like the one above and from trial and error - am I correct in this assessment?
If I bring the raw file into elements, some of the functions can work on 16 bit files but for most I must permanently convert down to 8 bits. How much print quality am I losing for 11x14 blowups during this process? I guess I'm losing none in resolution (PPI) but a little in gradations of color and luminosity.
How does this raw pre-processing in ACR compare with the new Nikon Capture 4 ( I have a D40x) ? Is it worth having both sets of SW? I couldn't find a price for Capture4 in the website - only a 30 day download trial. Anybody have any idea how much it costs?
Now if I would only go out and shoot some more photos instead of nerding out on the tech stuff!! Thanks.
    Chris

    Thanks Barbara - you wrote:
Your printer will almost certainly downsample your image to 8 bits when you print, so you're not losing there. The loss, such as it is, is in the available gradations of color for editing.
Is this the case If I get it printed at a photo printing/editing store (we have Mtophoto here in CO which I really like because a couple of the guys there really know their stuff)?

  • ACR and Elements help pls

    moved from photoshop forum

, i have been trying for years to install acr 6.7 and no luck.  mac 10.0.4  pse ver 10.   i have downloaded acr 6.7 (says installed successful)  shows up in my download files.   then  clicked on the patch installer.   it runs successfully.  but then when go to PSE and look under plug ins it is not there.   i also, went to my finder window and looked under library, adobe support files, plug ins... and it is not there.  am i missing a step in getting this complete.
please help.  i have tried everything over the years.   thank you.

First download the 6.7 camera raw update for pse 10
Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 update for Elements 10
    Then follow the steps below:
    1. Double click on the ElementsCameraRaw-6.7-mul-AdobeUpdate.dmg you downloaded
Then double click on the payloads folder
    2. Inside the payloads>CameraRawForElements6.4All-200412083947 folder, double click on
        the CameraRawForElements6.4All-200412083947.dmg
    3. Double click on the Assets2 folder
    4. Inside the Assets2>universal folder is the Camera Raw.plugin
Open a new Finder window (Command+N) and go to
      /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-Ins/Elements 10/File Formats
and drag the Camera Raw.plugin from the universal folder to the File Formats folder
    5. Download and install the 6.7 Dng Converter to get the required camera raw profiles
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 6.7
Hopefully, after all that, the camera raw plugin should work in photoshop elements 10

  • ACR in Elements

Can I open a jpeg image in ACR for editing using PSE 6. I can do this with CS3 but want to know if I can also do it with PSE 6 and if so how.
    Many thanks
    Sue

You can do so easily in Elements 6.0. In Editor, click the File heading and click Open As... Select the file to be edited and open the Open As dropdown box and select Camera Raw and hit the Open button. Your .jpg file will open in ACR.

  • ACR for Elements 2?

Do I presume correctly that ACR didn't exist back in Elements version 2 days? I plan to upgrade to version 7 soon but I was curious.

    Yes.

  • Update to ACR in Elements 10 for OMD EM-1?

    Is there one available?

The good news is that the OMD EM-1 is supported by the latest version ACR8.3.
The bad news is that Elements 10 is not compatible with ACR8.3.
You'll either have to upgrade to PSE12
    or,
stick with Elements 10 and convert the Raw files from the OMD EM-1 to DNGs using the free Adobe DNG converter. Then edit the DNGs in Elements 10.

  • New monitor/calibration; now colors won't display correctly in ACR and Elements

Just got a new ASUS LCD monitor, and calibrated it with the Spyder 3 Express.
Now when I open a .CR2 file using Elements to edit the RAW image, the color is displayed as yellowy-gray and dull.  It looks the same when I pull it into Elements 7, unless I remove all color management (which, if I save the image, actually then renders the image colors neon and oversaturated with lots of pink and red tones).
I also use Lightroom 3 and I am having the same problem there.  Upon import of either an edited Jpeg or a .CR2 RAW file, the color in Lightroom is displayed as dull, grayish yellowy-green.
If I export and view the very same image in GIMP, Picasa or on the web, as long as the colorspace is intact (sRGB), the color is accurate.  Not so in Elements or Lightroom.
If you have experience with this problem is it the monitor, the calibration, or Elements and Lightroom.  I am beyond frustrated and need to see my colors properly.  I have not had this problem before.

I don't use Spyder to calibrate my monitor; instead, I use the software and tool that X-Rite makes and it came with my NEC wide-gamut monitor. I suspect that the tools are similar.
First, make certain that you're using your Spyder spectrometer and the accompanying software correctly. Although I consider myself relatively computer saavy, I find that I have to follow the instructions carefully.
Then, calibrate your monitor so that the colors and brightness the monitor displays are correct for your printer setup. In my case, the tool uses ICC color standards to set the colors. And, I tell it I want the monitor's brightness to be 90 candelas per square meter (cd/m2), which is about the same brightness as a blank white piece of photo paper. With the monitor brightness set at 90 cd/m2, I avoid getting prints that are too dark. If you calibrate the monitor correctly, the colors should look good and you should have a white that looks white and a black that looks black - that is, you shouldn't have any colors that don't look right.
Second, when you use Elements (PSE) or Lightroom (LR) to print, be sure to indicate that you want PSE or LR to control the colors and not the printer. It's very important, too, that you have the correct printer-paper profiles downloaded into the printer driver and that you select the correct paper profile. I have an Epson 3880 printer and I use Epson papers (mostly); so, I tell PSE to use the profile that fits the paper I'm using - for example, Epson Premium Glossy. When I downloaded the printer driver into my computer, it also downloaded the Epson paper-printer profiles and they appear in the print dialog boxes used during the printing process. (Other paper manufacturers, such as Ilford, make profiles available for downloading on their website.)
I hope this helps; if it doesn't let's go into some more.

  • Editing with ACR "RAW" in Elements 11?

The new RAW editor for Elements 11 has changed from Elements 10. Where can I find support on how to effectively edit RAW files with Elements 11? I previously purchased the Mark Galer Elements 10 book and found it very useful. I am looking for similar support for Elements 11.

I do like the ACR in Elements 11. Do you know if there is a way to open multiple JPG files into the ACR? I tried control clicking but it only takes one file at a time
    Thanks
In my opinion, this is one the biggest limitations of Elements compared to Lightroom.
The target public of Elements is not the same as that of LR, but Elements is especially attractive to users wanting more than the basic editors on the market and to advanced photographers who don't need at all the additional tools of CS.
Today, those users are apt to use both raw and jpegs pictures : pictures from various cameras in the family, pictures from the DSLR and from the small P&S you carry everywhere. That's a new trend.
What's also new is the power of the new ACR version, which enables you to edit 90% of your pictures without needing to do anything else in the editor. You don't need to save an edited copy as a PSD or JPEG...
And so the Organizer should treat the jpegs just like raws. You should be able to open jpegs (even several jpegs) in ACR from the organizer (the EditInAcr script from John R Ellis did that for single pictures up to version 8). There should be an option additionally to 'edit in an external editor' : open in ACR.
Of course, It would be great to be able to open several jpegs directly from the editor.
I have also suggested elsewhere that the dngconverter would include the option to batch convert jpegs to DNGs. That would enable a batch converting of jpegs to DNGs which would be imported in the catalog, and could be treated just like raws. That would be a workaround.

  • ACR 6.7 RC for PS Elements 10

is there currently a way of installing ACR6.7 into PSE10?  I opened the install patch but it told me there is no program needing it.
I have the new Lr4 so of course it does not need 6.7
Also - will PSE10 be able to install ACR 7 when released?
    Thank-you

Adobe does not make release candidate versions of ACR for Elements. So Elements 10 users will have to wait for the final version 6.7 release. Sometime in May 2012, when Photoshop CS6 is released, ACR 7 will become available for Elements 10.
(I have no insider status at Adobe, but can count to 12 , months that is. )

  • Update Elements 11 ACR

    Hi
I've just purchased a Nikon D750 and need to update the ACR on Elements 11 to Version 8.7
When I click  Help and Updates it tells me I am upto date
    Any help would be great
    Thanks
    Steve

You ought to be aware that after you install Elements 13 it will be necessary for you to run an update from the help menu in order to get Camera Raw updated. Otherwise, even installing Elements 13 won't open the raw images from your D750.

  • Camera RAW functionality in Photoshop and Elements

I am a Photoshop Elements user (6/Windows) and I was wondering if the Camera RAW plugin had different functionality under Photoshop when compared to Photoshop Elements. In several places over the net I have read references to fixing lens chromatic aberration in Camera RAW, however, I cannot see anything like that when I use ACR with Elements.
    So - what am I missing ?
    Thanks
    Tomas

Jonathan, Jim, Thanks for your input.
    >"calibration" panel is missing
FYI Jim the calibration panel is included in PSE 6 once you install ACR 5.1. This is an example of why I asked the question - it's very hard to know what is in and out of the feature list.
    >I suppose for the person who identifies themselves as an amateur or as a casual user, Photoshop Elements/ACR probably appears as a reasonable compromise of features.
That is the theory I'm working with. As a hobbyist I'd love to have the full Photoshop but its hard to justify the price.
    >I sympathize with your problems. Naturally, it's in the interest of every customer to find maximum functionality at minimum cost; unfortunately, it's in Adobe's interest to make us pay for every drop of useful functionality. ... I'm willing to pay for the functionality that I find useful;
I'm in the same boat. I've paid for PSE upgrades a number of times because I've found the added features useful each time. This year I swapped to LR2 and am extremely happy I made the move, but there are still times when you need a "destructive" editor. This whole line of inquiry is to see if it is worth upgrading my "destructive" editor as well.
From my perspective Adobe have gotten their product/feature mix slightly wrong. As a hobbyist it is hard to justify the additional $1000 (or more) to upgrade from PSE to CS4 as my "destructive" editor. But there are a number of features missing from PSE that it is reasonable for a hobbyist to expect or need. Somehow I don't think this imbalance will ever be resolved to my satisfaction.
    Interesting debate!
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • PS Elements 10 and D7100 NEF Files

How do I open Nikon D7100 NEF files with Photoshop Elements 10?

Yes, it will never be upgraded.  If your camera is not included in ACR 6.7 or earlier, you will need to buck up and buy new stuff.  Either that or stick with legacy cameras.
Doesn't it seem odd that consumers will invest in an expensive camera with out giving thought to the software they need to go with it?
At some point you can expect ACR to move to an 8.x series.  Elements 11 uses the 7.x series.  You can assume there will be an Elements 12 release in the Fall.  It won't be until then that you will know what ACR versions will be used.  If you buy a camera released in 2014, odds are you will need to get 2014 software too.
I went through a series of new cameras and camcorders since I bought Elements 9.  To get the best out of each camera and the counterpart Elements capabilities I bought both 10 and 11.  There was also the expense of books and online training courses.
I am now very pleased with the combination of software, computer, cameras, printer and display screens I have.  I have taken an oath to myself to not mess with the balance between it all and devote my efforts to mastering my collection.
Adobe is not going to update ACR for Elements 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, etc either!  Can you imagine what it would take to make ACR backward compatible to so many versions?
In fact, Adobe is switching their pro strategy to online "rental" from the Creative Cloud which will make the entire "keep it current" process easier for those that make their living with imaging software.

  • Can i get photos to open in photoshop, after elements edit

    probably this is crazy.
but i would like to edit a raw photos in acr in elements 6...
then click on a button and have the file open in photoshop cs
as of now i dont even have elements, but if i could do this i would get it.
    thanks

No, I'm afraid you can't do that with Elements. You would have to open the converted file in PSE then save in a regular image format and then open the TIFF or whatever in PS CS.
