ACR settings prior to merging

I've recently started to use CS5 Photomerge for panoramas, focus stacking and some HDR.  I'm interested in learning the recommend ACR workflow prior to doing the photomerge.   I shoot with the camera (5DII) set to UniWB to assure reliable histograms as I expose to the right. My searches have led me to the following ACR workflow and settings:
- Reset CR defaults to 0 for Recovery, Fill Light, Blacks, Brightness, Contrast,  Sharpening amount, Noise Reduction and a linear tone curve.
- From Bridge open all images to be merged in CR.  Select All.
- Set White Balance as desired. (Since the camera is set to UniWB when I open the image in ACR, Temp and Tint are at the minimum.)
- Set Exposure as desired and 'Done'.
- At this point, from the bridge: Tools>Photoshop>Photomerge or Merge to HDR Pro. Save the merged file as TIFF.
- I then use ACR controls on this file (and later CS5 as/if needed).
Questions: Is this the recommended workflow prior to merge?  Is the TIFF file I've saved after the merge a "scene referred" file?

Hello d2inaa
Congratulations on your new Mac!
Befor you migrate anything from the G-4 to the Intel Mac have a look at Kappy's Basic Guide for Migrating to Intel-Macs it will save you alot of trouble.

my laptop had to be reset to factory settings. prior to that i had all my itunes songs stored on a portable drive. how do i get itunes to recognize the drive as its library?

If the library file is on the external drive, hold <SHIFT> while launching iTunes.  When it prompts to select a library file or create a new one, point it to the location of the library file.
If the library file was on the internal harddrive, easiest solution is to restore it from the backup.  If no backup exists, use File > Add Folder to library.  Also under Edit > Preferences > Advanced, change the library location unless you want iTunes to move the media to the internal drive.

  • Bridge ACR Settings disappear when reopening folder of images

Frustrating! I'm working on 537 images, I set the exposure, color, etc., and also crop.
Once the folder is closed and reopened all 537 images have reverted to "As Shot".
I am hitting "Enter" when cropping is completed; however, hitting "Enter" after color etc. adjustments closes
the ACR individual icon window and I have to go thru Cmd-R again.
What am I doing wrong and what should I be doing right?
537 images have to be redone. Again.

The .xmp files are listed in the file folder. The "Date Created" for each .xmp
file is correct, and reflects the time
the file was worked on originally; however, after closing and reopening the
file in Bridge, the "Date Modified" for all images
    is "Today, 6:58 PM".
Check your hard drive permissions, choose the HD icon and then the Get Info
command (cmd+i). In this window you can see at the bottom if you have read
and write permissions. If it is set to read only you are not able to write
data to it. Copy a few to your main disk without the existing xmp files and
open them in PS, maybe the data is also still in the Camera Raw Data Base,
    just a wild shot.
Purging the cache does not restore the .xmp editing choices but does delete
    the cropping functions.
sorry to hear that it did not work, however, purging cache should not
delete the crop settings, at least, I tried it with one file that is on my
main hard drive and both ACR settings and crop were kept after purging cache
    for that file.
The files are located on an external drive. Is this possibly an issue?
See above, it might be the permissions but also a bad functioning drive. Use
Apple Disk utility or Desk Tool Pro to check the Disk. (something you should
do regularly). Ideally the external drive should be formatted in HFS+ for
Mac but other formatting will also function as long as the drive shows on
    your desktop.
Personal I never work on files on external drives, I use my main drive for
it and use external drives (have lots of them...) only for storage and back
    up
Is there any method to update the "Date Modified" with the "Date Created"
info in the .xmp files in the file folder?
Not sure why you want this but in general you can't change xmp yourself if
the metadata panel has no option for it (only the ones with a pencil icon
can be edited by the user) other then using scripting I believe.
However the next time you modify the file in Bridge, finder ACR PS etc your
    modification date should update itself.
Putting back the modification date will probably not bring back your earlier
changed settings, at least I don't think so.

  • ACR settings help-recovery

I am currently using ACR 7.4.  The recovery slide did not show up.  Customer Service told me to switch to 2012 in my settings.  They also told me-sort of rudely-that this is a question for the forum-um yeah-I'm new to this....so anyway-I don't even know how to find my settings.  When I open a picture out of Bridge, it immediately opens into ACR.  From what I can see, there is no place to open up your settings once in ACR.  I'm on a MAC, so I checked under my applications, but I don't see anything for ACR.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

Ask in the PS/ ACR forums.

  • HT204053 My connection Doctor says its connecting to I-Cloud but the SMTP sending accounts are not merging correctly! What do I change the settings to to merge my mail.me accounts across to this?

    Hello,
Yesterday under sufference I moved across to I-Cloud from my Mobile me accounts.
I had a deadline of 30th June to merge my email accounts or they would of ceased.
In order to remain compatible I also bought the Lion OSX platfrom which was upgraded from Snow Leopard.
I have moved all my .mac and .me accounts across to I-Cloud and the Connection Doctor recognises them to allow email to be downloaded,
but its seems when the SMTP part of the loggin tries to connect its booted off the mail server.
Im know that I have probably not managed to merge across competely to I-Cloud successfully and wondered if any one can please tell me the
setting I need to change under the mail preference account profiles to ensure this will work correctly.
    Thanks
    Denise

Hi Roger, Thanks for your suggestions. Do you think in fact that I could delete the SMTP part of the mailservers. It appears that they are dedundant as it now says it used Icloud only?
    Thanks

  • FotoStation wipes ACR settings from .xmp

My employer has recently decided we need to use FotoStation (mostly because we work over a network, and FS is good for that... anyway) to organise, and apply metadata to, our photographs and videos. I do still use Bridge for previewing, ratings and making adjustments via ACR.
I have noticed that when I have updated the metadata via Fotostaion, it removed ratings and ACR information from the .xmp file in Bridge (not the file itself, just the specific ACR/ratings data within). I made sure that, when I made the changes in FotoStation I selected to "Append new text to existing text" (the other option is to "Replace the existing text"). It definitely removes the ACR information because I tested it out by opening an image in ACR, editing it, clicking done (definitely clicked done not cancel, changes seen in Bridge) then updated the metadata via FotoStation, went back to Bridge and the ACR changes were gone. I opened the "File Info" and read the "Raw Data" before and after the FS edit and the info was there before and gone after.
SO is there a way to not allow this to happen? FYI I will be posting this to the FotoStation forum as well, I just want to cover both bases. FotoStation doesn't feel it is necessary to have a forum apparently. I'll provide camera and application information below.
    Windows 7 x64
    Working over a network
    Adobe Bridge CS6 (v5.0.2.4)
    Camera Raw 8.4
    FotoStation 7.0 (Build 459)
    Canon EOS 5D (.CR2 files)
No I cannot work off the network, or get newer versions of applications (at this current time); what I have there is all I have to work with at this point in time.
I will, for now, simply add the metadata using Bridge but I would still like to see this issue resolved if possible as it is the preferred method utilised by my employer and not my decision to change. My input is not required

I don't have FotoStation b459 only b60*. I can confirm that you need to rebuild the thumbnails in FotoStation to see metadata changes done in Adobe Bridge. This forces FotoSation to re-index the image.
There should be no unintentional metadata lost when going back and forth between FS and Bridge. However, you should check that your FotoStation metadata configuration includes the Adobe and IPTC name spaces and fields you need. If not you can create them manually or import from an image. The FotoStation documentation shows that this is easy to do.
As an aside I find that Adobe CS5 deletes metadata information in fields that are deprecated or no longer belong to the Adobe name space. This is a potential serious problem for digital images generated using legacy software and hardware.
As a FotoStation user for the last 4 years, in my opinion, your employer is correct. FotoStation is one of the best software for metadata and digital asset management. Good luck!

  • Add ACR settings section to Metadata viewer

I was looking for some night shots the other day. There are so many photo organizers but I know of none that let one select night versus day shots (no seasons of the year too)...
I thought that maybe it could be work around by selecting photos with specific WB setting. But there is no WB data in the Metadata Browser. Hmm.
There is also no WB field in the metadata panel - no EXIF WB, no Lightroom-edited WB either. So it's impossible to search for specific WB value string.
I would like to see both EXIF WB and the whole Camera Raw metadata section added to available metadata in Lightroom. This way one would be able to e.g. search for photos having Color noise reduction slider setting set to 25. Maybe it would be useful to be able to search for value ranges as well (any photo with Color NR of 25 and more).
P.S. This whole WB quest was to find photos with WB of 2000 to support the feature request of extending available WB range below 2000 in ACR.
    Regards
    m.

How about Keywording for this? Can be done now without waiting for a potential change to LR.
Out of current range WB has been previously requested here, for a long time.

  • ACR settings not applied to jpegs in Explorer?

I use Camera Raw in Bridge to batch edit photos which are jpegs. At the moment, when I make changes and click "done", the changes are applied to the photos in Bridge, but when I view them in Explorer, they are still in the original state.
Before I installed Windows 7, the above procedure would change the photos in Explorer as well as Bridge, is there any way to resolve my problem?
I have xml files disabled and are having changes saved in the ACR database, if that information helps.

The ACR edits are recorded in a text section within the jpeg, do not actually change the image pixels.  Therefore, when  viewed outside of ACR/Bridge/PS they appear as before the edits, since no other apps use the exif data.
To make this work, you need to "Save" out of ACR, creating new jpegs, which then incorprates the edits into the image pixels.

  • Trying to do a photomerge--Getting a "common error message" Documents must be saved prior to merging

    Photoshop CS6
    Photoshop CC 14.2
Trying to do an automation/photomerge on "open files"
    Get this error message
In sniffing around the internet I have discovered this is a fairly common problem???
    Anyone got any solutions??
    Thanks in advance

    Problem Solved:
Here's the approach to eliminate the "documents must be saved before youy can merge files"
    Do not open files first......
    Open Photoshop
    The select File/Atomate/Photomerge
    A dialog box will open
    Select BROWSE
Now select your files to be merged in proper sequential order
Select the method of merge to be used
    Click OK
    All done

  • ACR Settings icon question

I am using CS4, but expect that the question applies to CS3 as well. I cannot get rid of the small icon (two horizontal lines with two small upward-pointing arrowheads) at the upper right of the thumbnail as seen in Bridge. This icon means that the raw file has a setting, or has had a setting?
I have tried to get it to disappear:
    1) White Balance: As Shot,
    2) chosing Camera Raw Defaults, or,
    3) chosing Reset Camera Raw Defaults,
    4) purging the cache for the folder,
    5) there is no label, star, Reject etc.
I admit that these choices are a little confusing to me. Should I assume that if the icon persists, there is still a setting applied? If so, how do I eliminate any applied setting?
    Thanks very much,
    Sonny

But the default setting that you applied is gone. Don't do it if you spent hours tweaking the files... This tells you what files have been adjusted, and which ones didn't.

  • Problem with JPGs Downlaoded with Nikon Transfer - Can't Apply Develop Settings in Bridge CS4 and ACR 5.3 Settings Don't Stick

I have found what I believe is a "problem" with JPGs downloaded using Nikon Transfer (ver 1.4.1) and processing same in Adobe Bridge CS4 (Develop Settings) and/or Adobe Camera Raw 5.3 (Photoshop CS4 and Elements 6 as hosts).
Anyone using these programs in their workflow?
The problem, quite simply, is that neither ACR settings (nor Bridge CS4 Develop Settings) "stick" when applied to JPGs that have been downloaded via Nikon Transfer ver 1.4.1.
The same images from the same cameras (D300 and D90), downloaded moments later using Nikon's predecessor software PictureProject work just fine in both Bridge and ACR.  Develop Settings appled in Bridge immediately are seen, and JPGs opened in ACR, and settings applied, then "Done" immediately stick and are reflected in Bridge.
If someone else is processing their JPGs in this manner, please let me know, as I have reported the problem to both Nikon and Adobe, and although I have tested it on two different cameras and two differnt laptops, I would like to get an impartial result as well.
One other test, the problem does not seem to affect Nikon's RAW (NEF) format files downloaded from a D2x using Nikon Transfer.  More/different test are forthcoming.
    Thanks

Can't say one way or another on that statement about using manufacturers' software.  Since Adobe has to interpret each camera models' RAW format having the latest ACR seems to be the best option.  But if the manufacturers' software is more convenient, and you get the same results then use it.  But it does appear you are not getting what you want, so suggest you try a duplicate test run with images straight from the card reader to Bridge and see if you still have same problems.
I do know it is widely recommended that using a quality card reader gives you more reliable data than getting the pictures straight from the camera.  Does not seem intuitive, but that has been experience of many.

  • ACR 6.1 problem: presets are resetting settings

    Hi all,
First post in these forums.  I've been using ACR for years and have been using Photoshop CS5 for a few weeks with no problems.  I've now installed ACR 6.1...
Here's the problem that is driving me nuts: when I apply a preset to an image, ALL settings are affected, even if the preset only includes information on one setting.  The settings that are NOT specified in the preset XMP file are basically zeroed - not even to my default setting, but to 'factory defaults'.
For example, I have a preset that only sets Split Toning. When I apply it, the split toning gets set and all other ACR settings not specified in the preset are reset - exposure, noise reduction, vignetting etc... everything EXCEPT local adjustments.
I have even checked the contents of the preset XMP files to make sure they only contain the relevant settings and they all look good to me.  Here's the contents of the above preset:

    Hi,
I couldn't see any Adobe related process in the task manager. I tried
to open PS and from there activated Updates. The app manager was
launched which I also could see in the task manager. After closing the
app manager and PS no Adobe task was running.
I tried to logout and login in again but the problem remained. Finally
I rebooted OS X and after that I successfully was able to update to
    ACR 6.1.
I also tried to run AdobePatchInstaller with PS open. In that case AAM
displayed a message that PS was open and had to be closed i.e. a
totally expected behaviour compared to the previous error message I
    got before reboot.

  • ACR 6.2 noise reduction settings shown only after zoom in or pushing sliders

    Hi!
I Believe its an operator error, but still, i need your help, either to correct the situation ou learn how to work around it!
    Begining:
to properly adjust noisre reductions settings we have to zoom in to about 100%, however, when zoom to fit in screen... the changes dont apear... unless i slghtly slide one adjusting button, the image will show the the changes until i release the slider.
i have the "preview check" marked.
if i export the images to jpg or tiff they present the changes, but if i click "done" to keep only the raw files + xmp  and open the files in bridge on full screen, it doesn´t show the noise reduction changes, and once again, if i zoom in, it magicly changes while still zooming in....
Can someone help? i would like to keep only the raw files, having them exported only when needed...
Thank you in advance for your patience and time!
    Mikroben.

    hi MadManChan2000!
    Thank you for your reply!
here you have a screen shot from my "basic" ACR settings, and as you can see, the darker part of the facem presents some noise color and grain.
on this second screen shot, you can see how the image should be showing.... however, for the noise redution changes to appear when the image is in "fit in view" mode i have to push a slider from de "Basic" menu (in this case i was pushing the exposure).
You can pretty much see the diference!! this is how i wanted images to show.
in this next screen shot you can see my NR Settings.
    Thank you for your patience!!
    Have a great weekend!!

  • Merging R3D and Audio Doesn't Allow Source Settings Change

Found a major issue in Premiere Pro CC that has put us behind a few days:
If you select a .Wav audio file and then a red media r3d clip and merge clips, the merged file LOSES the ability to alter source settings, even if unlinked in the sequence.
If you select the r3d clip file FIRST and THEN the .wav file and merge clips, the merged file works just fine, and source settings can be adjusted.
I wish I knew that before merging hundreds of clips.
Can you fix this one, Adobe?

All the files I am merging are already WAV files, so I don't think that is a workaround.  Although it sounds like it seems to be working for you at the moment.  I worked with a support guy and tried ever conceivable troubleshooting option and we both came to the conclusion that it has nothing to do with the project file, etc. and it is definitely a bug in the software itself.  The question is, what is causing it?  Here are a few things I noticed:
    1. I have a WAV file and R3D file that was merged in my MAIN project, which I cannot access Source Settings on.  (about 3/4 of my merged files allow me to access the Source Settings)
    2. I tried taking these 2 original files (WAV and R3D) into a  new project.  I merged the files. I could not access the Source Settings on the merged file.  This was a brand new project. (I also tried all of this after removing all cache, temp, etc. files that Adobe has you clear out.  Still no luck)
    3. You would think that points to the files themselves.  However, then I went back to my MAIN project.  I still could not access the Source Settings on the originally merged file, but...I imported the WAV and R3D file again and merged them again.  This time I could access the Source Settings on the newly merged file, but still not the original.
This is just a few of the tests, but this doesn't point to a Project File issue or an individual file issue.  It truly seems to be a random issue that is most likely linked to the program itself.
This is a major issue for those of us working at this level.  Please address this issue immediately, Adobe.  Hopefully it is something that can be fixed and will not force us to re-merge files.  Thanks!
I'm still waiting for a response from Adobe as it was supposedly escalated.
